I was recently running MIUI 12/24 with the whole updated radio/prl combo pack and having absolutely no problems at all and battery life was great.
I then switched to Myns RLS 5 yesterday and my battery life has been terrible. I have tried both the stock kernel that was included in the kernel and the Netarchy 4.3 kernel and both are giving me about 90% android system usage for the battery even while the phone is sleeping. I have hardly any apps installed at all aside from the ones that were already on the Rom.
Why is my system usage so high and what can I do to fix it?
Thank you.

Hmm, this happens after a clean install before even adding ANY apps at all? Do you have facebook installed? Or are you signed in to facebook for HTC sense? I've read a couple posts showing that the fb for htc sense was holding a wake lock if it was set to sync live feed (change that from settings>accounts and sync>facebook for htc sense). If you use the actual facebook app, the chat feature will keep the phone awake unless you are in the chat part, and hit menu>go offline. It;s a place to start, if you do indeed have facebook. If you don't use facebook at all, can you use system panel to kill all tasks and see if you still have a wake lock after that? If I remember right from Myn's thread, did you say that you already tried changing your PRI back to 1.77? the 1.90 was giving me a wake lock for some reason, it was strange. If you didn't try that, even though the 1.90 was working fine for you on MIUI, I would still try rolling it back to 1.77 just to see if it makes a difference. What other apps do you have installed other than what the ROM came with? Any at all??

I haven't tried reverting back to 1.77 because I was running 1.90 fine with no problems at all on Calkulins EVIO 2 Rom. This all happened when I flashed RLS 5. I do have facebook for android installed along with facebook for htc sense. I also have chomp, system panel, weatherbug elite, and watchdog lite. I have no new apps installed that are different from anything else that I have ever had installed so I don't think that it is an app that is causing the problem for me.

Hmm, I'm not sure then. I would still try downloading system panel, and killing all of your running apps. (the ones that need to restart will). After that, see if you are still getting your wakelock. Then restart the apps one at a time, and see if any of them are causing it. (apps can go rogue, I've had it happen. Deleted the app, reinstalled, and it was behaiving normally) So just to rule some more stuff out (process of troubleshooting), I would try that. At least you'll have a little better idea of which direction to go in. You can rule out a rogue app, or determine if that is indeed the issue. Things happen sometimes man.
EDIT: I've heard of many times of weatherbug causing a wakelock. People had to delete it and reinstall, and it was fine ( i dont get it, but it worked). So maybe try freezing it with titanium backup or os monitor, just for some testing. See if it changes anything. You'll figure it out.

I dont think the PRI is the cause, I am now running 1.90 and havent noticed a difference in battery life. As for your awake time, flash Calk combo radio zip. youre probably not running the latest RAD.11.19. HTC 15 kernel wont work properly without it.

Flashed almost every foryo rom and i loved them...
with a special mention to Richard's DeFrost and Adam's Opendesire.. Froyo in general was extremely fast and and had much better user experience when compared to 2.1 even with sense..though its subjecive..
But two issues always forces me back to stock 2.1 with sense
1- White noise (echo not an issue with me on opendesire)
2- Battery life
I just love the froyo roms, the speed and the new features are just fantastic. But:
1. Battery drain, with the last froyo rom I tried my battery was drained by 50 % overnight with nothing turned on. With the stock HTC 2.1 rom, it only drain 5 % overnight
2. like rahiljnmc says, with OD there is no echo, but still some white noise.
However the main problem keeping me from froyo, is the battery drain.
the missing sense...froyo with sense that would be nice
the fact that I cant root my phone
Lost 36% of battery in the last 37 hours with opendesire 1.5, so battery is not an issue for some.
Not being able to connect to my companies exchange account.
Always tells, that wrong credentials, when returning back to 2.1, everything is working fine.

I'm torn between waiting for an official HTC update, and flashing a Froyo ROM and using Launcher Pro. As trivial as it may seem, I think the main thing I'd miss from Sense is the clock, but then there is Fancy Widget. For now anyway.
1: White noise / echo. Will be sorted soon enough.
2: Battery time varies. Can be 3 days, or can be 12hrs depening on the mood of the phone that day.

I had the same issue on the weekend, and thought it was just some freaky occurance. I lost 50% overnight with nothing turned on.
I don't miss sence at all anymore.
My battery is actually better in fro yo. Over night I lose 1% every 2 hours and on occation I can get through a whole day without plugging my phone in once - a great improvement!
The only thing I missed from 2.1 was the inability to select text in the browser (I was doing it wrong) and the data on/off widget (I now know 2g/3g shortcut is better)
So now the only thing I miss is the radio, but then again I don't have to listen to Chris moyles on the way to work anymore.
I don't think I could go back.
Being able to use it as a "phone" without the other side questioning me if I am next to a waterfall
just FM radio
addionally to the mentioned problems above:
the missing HTC Sync. I need my phone to be synching with outlook and there still is no Rom which can provide this...

battery life is really good - 2-3 days with evg 3hrs phone calls, email sync every 30 minutes and some browsing. remember that battery life depends on your network converge and signal quality
FM radio!
echo and white noise!!!
For me there's a couple of things.
1. The FM Radio
2. The HTC Mail/Activesync setup. With the 2.1/Sense I can choose to only sync calendar or contacts but not mail from an account. With Froyo the mail component wasn't optional. I actually have 2 separate Exchange accounts - 1 for mail/contacts and the other just for the calendar but couldn't achieve that setup with Froyo
I'm not missing sense, but i'm missing the Sense Dialer and Contacts app... the stock is just ugly as hell!
FM Radio is also missing...
Other thing is.. I install all apps on SD with the Froyo built in apps2sd... but after installing about 30 apps it says low on space ??? But I have enoough space on my SD... that's just weird and I'm thinking to switch to the hacked apps2sd ^^
Hi guys, can someone help me, I want to download froyo to my new HTC Desire, can you send me the link please??!
i flashed the stock rooted RUU and i get 100% awake time... anyone else? i haven't tried any other 3.70.651.1 roms..
I did. But I wiped and flashed again. No problems since.

hmm i wiped and reflashed about 5 times, still 100% awake.. weird
No problem here phone is sleeping like it should. Using SteelRom rev I at the moment.
Awake meaning the screen never turns off?

Try downloading the ROM again. You may have a bad download. Also, did you use Titanium Backup to install everything?

try uninstalling apps that you recently downloaded. I had the same problem on a different rom, turns out it was something called sensorly map keeping my phone up.
its a fresh flash... no apps installed. i also tried steelrom, same behavior.... if i flash 3.30.x.x no,100% awake issues. any ideas?
MarkGBE, WHAT particular item is keeping your phone in awake mode. Use some tool, like spare parts, and see what exactly is keeping it awake.

not sure. looking in spare parts... i dont see anything with a ton of usage,.,.,.
In spare parts, Battery History, Partial Wake usage, select Since Last unplugged.
If you're getting 100% wake time, whatever's holding it open will show there.
Leave it unplugged, turn the screen off and let it sit for awhile to gather up some statistics.
currently on the top of that list is 'Media' with 2m 47 sec. second is android system. 1min 56sec..
yeah this makes no sense... nothing appears to be keeping it awake...
Just wanted to confirm that I have this problem using both most recent SprintLovers and Fresh. Even restoring from nandroid backup seems to keep it open. Fresh install, no apps. Driving me nuts.
Attempting to flash burnt droid now. Will report results.
EDIT: nada.

You're close. It's actually pri 1.90 that's keeping the phone awake. Just revert back to 1.77 and it should sleep again.
Edit: pri 1.90 was the cause of my 100% wake time. I reverted to 1.77 to fix it but now I am going to test the latest radios versus the radios we upgraded from and also a combination of flashing new and previous radios together.

I've also read that 1.90 PRI, coupled with 3.70 ROM causes no problems. It seems one must use 3.70-based ROM to run 1.90 PRI.
What ROM base are you using?
Edit: If you are in fact using 3.70, then I wonder if 3.70 and 1.90 need to come up at the same time? That is, if you flashed them out of sync, maybe you need to wipe and re-flash?
Well, most of the romdev's all say not to do the new radios and pri if you're not on the new 3.70.x rom and not to mix and match kernels with it either.
I personally built the rom I am using with the 3.70 base. I also updated all the radios. When I reverted the pri thats when my wake issue dropped. But its fine. I will still test and then just keep whatever works for my rom.

Thanks. Please do report back if you have new results.
I've installed the latest Fresh for the third time. This time I used newest Amon-Ra exclusively, cleared all the caches everyone says to clear, also cleared the battery status. I've installed nothing extra. No sleep for me. I did not install the radios this time, didn't see the point if the phone will not sleep.
I'm not saying there is something wrong with the ROM, but there is certainly something wrong the the combination of ROM and my hardware (0003). Would the update that this ROM is based on have gone out to my phone?
Ideas? Based on usage yesterday from a previous install, battery life doesn't actually appear terrible, maybe 10 hours or so lite usage. I was thinking of installing Sprint Lovers but I see people having similar issues. Seems like some HW does not like this update?
I just noticed that my phone has 100% up/awake time now since updating to a 3.70 ROM.... it doesnt seem to be effecting the overall battery performance, but its just concerning.

Rebooting doesnt help the issue for me.
Hi all, this is my first post and I'm a n00b to rooting, but don't let that stop you from reading on since I'm an advanced user and hope I can add some value here. Honestly, don't know what took me so long to do this. Posting to the Q&A forum since I can't yet post to the RC1 Dev forum.
My main goals for rooting were to get out from under Sprint's downgrade of my Swype beta (I should never have installed that OTA update, duh), upgrade to GB, and get better performance (battery especially).
I tried lots of the GB ROMs so far and experienced some of the reported problems like cycling reboots, slow/non-responsive market, CM skate anim cycling, etc. Some ROMs had swype, some didn't and most produced the licensing issue discussed in these forums when trying to install the latest beta.
Long story short, I've found a very stable and fast performing combo that I thought I'd share, and ask a question about. Here's what I did:
In recovery, Format_all, wipe data, system, cache, dalvik.
Install RC1, install the latest GB google apps and restart.
3G performance was piss poor, and I want wimax (more Geeees!), so I installed the toast wimax kernel (and antipasto font which I'm loving), cleared caches again, restarted and now 3G performance was faster than I think it has ever been. [EDIT: WiFi now an issue] and GPS are fast and stable. Best part, I was able to download and install the very latest Swype beta on this ROM.
A couple things that need addressing though:
'Cell standby' is a somewhat high percentage battery drain which I'll try to tackle through other reported methods (could be wimax searching/standby?). That said, battery life is still very good and way better than sprint/sense, even under heavy/constant use.
USB issues: Enable USB debugging and notify. Icon shows in notification bar. Disable debugging, but leave notify checked. Debugging icon still shows. Tied to this is the inability to select the mount/charge options, which others have recently reported in the RC1 Dev forum. So can't mount to PC. Any updates on how to resolve?
WiFi is now non-functional on my office AP.
WiMax control settings not showing up since they aren't there with this ROM/kernel combo for some reason. Any/all ideas welcome on this point too.
Slow market downloads, even though speedtest shows 527kbps down.
Thanks again everyone for this great community!
I haven't had any luck with my phone on my office AP (3COM) since I got this darn phone. For some odd reason it gets the wrong gateway and I have to set it up manually from the terminal if I want to use it after connecting. Check your gateway when you connect and see what you are getting.

WiMax isn't in RC1 yet. You can get an alpha build that Shinzul has up. Or wait until the Final release which should have WiMax and HDMI working.
Thanks, I'll check the gateway, and will check out Shinzul's alpha.
Had my first auto reboot today, and Sms is not working right (yes, less than 160 chars and not mms). Might have spoken too soon about this combo...

Keep in mind that the "Percentages" will always total a 100%. Something will always be big.
So to me I WANT TO See Cell Standby be high. That means nothing stupid in the OS is chewing it up. And Cell Standby isn't effected all that much except the Radio Firmware (and settings) !! So be careful what you wish for.
The problem for me is, on sense you can uncheck radio always on to remove that cell standby huge drain. On froyo you can use juice defender. But on cm7 you can do neither. So I need to turn it on and off manually. Very annoying, anybody have a solution?
If you install CM7 nightly build #6 (today's build), it now has support for WiMax and SMS splitting.
juice defender is failing me. and i reeeeeallly hate turning data on and off manually. any suggestions? i'm new to aosp so i'm a bit lost rigt now.
Just use the expanded notification bar and toggle data. You're not gonna be able to shut off the radio without airplane mode.

Unfortunately I think some permissions changed within Android 2.3 which CM7 uses and JuiceDefender just doesn't work on it yet. You're only other option is to flash CM6 (Android 2.2) if you must have JuiceDefender working in ASOP.

ya it looks like thats the case. sucks cause it is taking a really high toll on my battery. i hope somebody will put it into one of the next builds soon.
Continuing from my OP, I'm now off RC1 and onto Nightly #12 with WiMax. WiMax when on is a huge battery drain and I'll be doing some post-reading to figure out if someone has found a way to set a WiMax antenna polling frequency so that it can sleep for periods when not connected.
That said, the WiMax is nice and fast...so I only enable it with the notification bar widget when I need speed or talk/data simultaneously. I also use a new version of Setting Profiles (Full version) to toggle the Wimax on/off based on where I am -- note that this is a test version sent to me by the developers as I've been helping them test this feature. So I don't know if it's in the latest market release version, but if you are a paid owner of that app, just email them and ask for it (although the updated market release is likely not far off if it's not out already).
With the XDA-sponsored SetCPU on and no WiMax, I'm actually getting great standby times in the double-digit number of hours, which has been a first for me with this phone! I know there are some great posts out there about manual conditioning of the battery, which I'm eager to try, and other useful battery-related posts.
I am running CM7 RC1 and I have to say I love it. The first couple of days after flashing I was experiencing terrible battery life. I mean 5 hours or less. I finally flashed Savage-Zen kernel and used the "smartass: governor in CM settings. My battery was better, but Cell Standby was still draining all the battery. I wiped the dalvik cache again and it helped some. but I think the best thing I did was disable google backup settings. Keep in mind before I flashed the kernel and battery life was horrible I wasnt using it heavily, WiFi was off completely, I toggled mobile data on and off as needed, and didnt let anything except for weather autosync. I had maybe 10 applications as well. Once I flashed Savage-zen, used smartass, and disabled Backup data to google servers. MY battery lasts over 2 days with moderate usage with mobile data always on and gmail and weather auto synced.
As far as bug-wise, the only thing I have experienced so far is sometimes there is a slight delay when unlocking the phone and getting the lockscreen to show. Sometimes when the button is pressed to unlock, the bottom touch buttons light up, but the lockscreen takes like 5 seconds to appear.
One more thing is the GPS icon stays in the notification area once it has been turned on and back off.
All in all I can say now that I have amazing battery life, I love CM7 and will not use anything else besides CM7. I cannot wait until the stable release is out. GO CyanogenMod Team!
ok so this is my situation, i have flashed nearly 3 roms in the span of 2 days, and my battery life is horrible on all 3, Myn, mik 4.5 and 4.4, i updated all my radios, and wiped everything using format_all zip. . . and nada cache and dalvik too. . . i check battery and Android system takes over 70 percent of battery! do u guys think it can be a rouge app? if so is there an app that monitor all apps my to check which ones use the most cpu?? thanks!

thanks for the quick reply?
should i downgrade only PRI or NV too?
you should try process manager, it tells you which apps are running on real time and tells you how much cpu is being use, that should help you pinpoint if its an app. also ive noticed that every phone takes roms differently, because my wives phone had some isues that mine didnt in some roms and mine had some that hers didnt in some roms. i have noticed that that my battery life increased alot with setcpu and underclocking my evo to 245 when screen is off, also turn in settings moble network setting data always on, that will allow your data connection to stop when you are not using it for a while and come back on when you need it. also try turning mobile networks completely off and do a normal reboot, then turn them back on. ive noticed that with some roms when you first start your phone it immediately conects to 4g when it starts and when you turn it off, it still keeps trying to connect in the background, but when you turn mobile networks off and the reboot and then turn mobile networks on afer it reboots the problem is gone. hope this helps you with your battery life
sorry correcting a typo in the previous post, i meant turn mobile networks always on to off

No, you do not need or have to downgrade the NV. The current baseband and PRI causes wake locks, thus, a major reason for the quick battery drainage. Downgrading the PRI should eliminate the wake lock issue and improve your batter life.
Just Me, D

Some people have said that they downgraded the PRI and didn't get the battery savings until they downgraded the NV. Just depends on your phone sometimes.
Here's a link to download different versions. Thank Calkulin for this, he is the man. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
I've used MikFroyo, Myn WarmTwoPointTwo, MIUI, CM6 and CM7, and by far I would say I've had the best battery life with CM7 and MIUI (CM7 just barely better.)
Try a different kernel if you want, I just Tiamat 3.3.1 for AOSP ROMs and Netarchy-toastmod 4.3.4 (both CFS HAVS no-SBC). I've had good results, stock battery lasts a day with moderate to heavy usage.
