Basically all you really need to do is flash s-on in clockworkmod and then the PB31img from part 2
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

Is there some way to just flash stock recovery and turn s-on without using adb in any way...adb kinda scares me
Sent from my HTC Incredible using XDA App

Read part 2. No ADB required.

Indeed. No ADB required. I've never even used it for anything. All you need is an SD card.

The memory card must be formatted in Fat32 otherwise it wont read it. Also it must be named "PB31IMG.zip" some computer show the .zip and some don't, so make sure not to name it PB31IMG.zip.zip unknowingly.

Thank you i thought it was formatted correctly but I used the phone to format it because I didn't have access to a computer last night but this morning I got on and reformated it and then it worked thanx

Look im not trying to be mean but searching is usually your best bet. I am willing to bet your answer can be found in the first 4 pages of this forum. Try searching ENG Bootloader .

I believe the unrevoked forever does that for you but you have to select it.
from www.unrevoked.com
unrevoked forever is a tool to set your Android phone's security level to S-OFF. The security level is a flag stored on the radio; when the flag is S-OFF, the bootloader (HBOOT) will no longer check the signatures of firmware images before flashing them. This allows custom firmware images to be uploaded, including unsigned boot, recovery, splash1, and hboot images (as well as official images that have been modified). When the system is S-OFF, the NAND flash memory protection is also reduced; this allows all partitions (including /system) to be written to while the operating system is booted.
Great response REM

What are you trying to do, could you be more specific? Unrevoked gives you unlocked nand, so i'm not sure what problem your running into?
I used unrevoked..tried to install cyanogen n I get a error message
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
are you sure unrevoked worked, sometimes you have to do it a couple times....do you have superuser permissions? I would make sure unrevoked is correctly installed...also redownload your rom and make sure the download is completed successfully, i never dl to phone, always to pc...
I have superuser..I used unrevoked
should I use unrevoked forever

Boot the phone into bootloader and you should see S-ON or S-OFF. If you see S-OFF you have nand unlocked.

Yes, that is what I said earlier a couple posts up.
Ya can't flash cm6 directly from unrevoked you need eng boot and amon recovery to flash it. You are most likely nand unlocked but trying to flash through clockwork. Easy fix is download Rom manager from marketplace then choose change recovery or whatever it says. I haven't looked at it for aong time then choose amon ra recovery. Then do another nand backup because clockwork and amon don't really work together. Then you should be able to flash cm6 no problem. Though having already done this I would personally suggest vaelpak over cm6 its almost all aosp and everything on your phone will still be functional. Plus its just as snappy as cm6 and I seem to get a far greater battery life with it.

IF you are trying the PC36IMG, you need to make sure to just rename the zip file to "PC36IMG". Do not add the ".zip" when you rename it, if you do your phone is not going to see the file because it is going to see it as PC36IMG.zip.zip. The format of the file is already a zip so adding the ".zip" is what is causing your problems. Hope this helps, its a common mistake I can remember when I first got into rooting and stuff I encountered the same thing.

Install this app from the market, copy the necessary files to your SD card using an external reader or download them directly on the phone and then you should be able to execute all the necessary commands with adb over wifi.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/adb-over-wifi-widget/bohlool.net.wifiadb
And here's the link to the instructions:

Just make sure you check the MD5's before you flash anything.

What is the easyest way to root the Desire?

Probably Unrevoked method
I tried it, but it said that the firmware was to new.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
revolutionary
Sent from my HTC Desire
i may be wrong but i think that revolutionary is the only way then
revolutionary technically performs s-off, root is achieved afterwards
read the documentation first
then follow this
What can i add?
S-OFF & flashing custom recovery is a very handy thing.
If you break something you are able to repair your system through recovery, but even if this fails you still got access to fastboot. It's really worth to do. I dont regret i've done it and this helped me a lot many times already.
Thanks guys. I will try this out.

yes, you need the superuser.zip on your sd card in order to flash it...
that guide overcomplicates it a little bit imo. you can just copy the superuser.zip onto the sd card using a card reader, before you put it in the phone.
then when you boot into recovery, go straight to 'install zip from sd card', find superuser.zip and flash it. push the trackball to select within the menus
and then u r rooted

Desire Z suddenly not booting... Help needed please.

Hi All.
Hoping someone can help a relative newbie.
About 3 months ago I upgraded to a Galaxy S3 and gave my Desire Z to my girlfriend. Before doing so I flashed it with virtuous rom and wiped everything.
It's been working fine until a few days ago when it started reacting slowly to screen touches then continuing to react, ie she would start scrolling a list and nothing would happen, and then all of a sudden it'd start scrolling and not stop despite the fact that she had stopped touching the screen.
She pulled the battery and rebooted and it seemed fine.
Then yesterday it was ok and all of a sudden it tried to reboot.. Since then it has failed to boot, instead getting stuck on a white HTC screen for a bit, then the screen goes blank, and it vibrates and comes back to the HTC screen.
If I pull the battery then hold volume of and power it will boot into hboot, flash up some text and then sit on the hboot screen.
At the top is the following.
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.84.2000 (PC1011000)
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMmc-boot
Now, I'm hoping I might be able to get it working again but could do with some guidance.
Is it a case of reflashing the rom by sticking it on the sd card and going into the hboot and flashing from there?
If not, then how do I go about it?
Any help very, very much appreciated!

Just take out the SD Card and make back-up of it and Format it hardly ( Fill with zeros ) and also you need to flash a new kernel and a swap enabler.
when you finish formatting the sd card make 128 Mb of swap partition and put the sd card back on.
then find the rom u are using and open that zip file and take out the " boot.img " file and flash it directly via fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img

this means you just flashed your kernel.
And this should work for you.

This won't help.
Also, seeing as you're S-OFF, you won't ever need to fastboot flash a kernel, recovery can manage that just fine.

Just had a look through the thread about recovering a desire Z, I'm a bit confuzzled by it all, the there is so much information in it.
Am I right in thinking that the situation I am in is that I have s-off and engineer recovery installed?
So in theory just wiping and reflashing my rom should be ok?
Should there be an option to install from sd card or something like that, or will I need to do it via abd?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
More than likely it is a software issue but there could be more. Best bet is to just wipe clean and flash a ROM via recovery
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
That's pretty much as I thought, and to do that is a case of wiping then sticking rom on memory card and it should let me install from the recovery, something like install from sd or something isn't it?

Just having a quick look at this, when I select recovery from the hboot menu the phone just goes to the same white HTC screen and stays there until I pull the battery. Would this be because I don't have the rom on the SD card yet or is it that the recovery won't load?
If it's a problem with the recovery, can I just bung PC10IMG.zip back on the sd card to reinstall recovery and go from there?
Possibly, but often that's a sign of a fried emmc, it could be other things though. Can you post all the information I ask for
