Look im not trying to be mean but searching is usually your best bet. I am willing to bet your answer can be found in the first 4 pages of this forum. Try searching ENG Bootloader .

I believe the unrevoked forever does that for you but you have to select it.
from www.unrevoked.com
unrevoked forever is a tool to set your Android phone's security level to S-OFF. The security level is a flag stored on the radio; when the flag is S-OFF, the bootloader (HBOOT) will no longer check the signatures of firmware images before flashing them. This allows custom firmware images to be uploaded, including unsigned boot, recovery, splash1, and hboot images (as well as official images that have been modified). When the system is S-OFF, the NAND flash memory protection is also reduced; this allows all partitions (including /system) to be written to while the operating system is booted.
Great response REM

What are you trying to do, could you be more specific? Unrevoked gives you unlocked nand, so i'm not sure what problem your running into?
I used unrevoked..tried to install cyanogen n I get a error message
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
are you sure unrevoked worked, sometimes you have to do it a couple times....do you have superuser permissions? I would make sure unrevoked is correctly installed...also redownload your rom and make sure the download is completed successfully, i never dl to phone, always to pc...
I have superuser..I used unrevoked
should I use unrevoked forever

Boot the phone into bootloader and you should see S-ON or S-OFF. If you see S-OFF you have nand unlocked.

Yes, that is what I said earlier a couple posts up.
Ya can't flash cm6 directly from unrevoked you need eng boot and amon recovery to flash it. You are most likely nand unlocked but trying to flash through clockwork. Easy fix is download Rom manager from marketplace then choose change recovery or whatever it says. I haven't looked at it for aong time then choose amon ra recovery. Then do another nand backup because clockwork and amon don't really work together. Then you should be able to flash cm6 no problem. Though having already done this I would personally suggest vaelpak over cm6 its almost all aosp and everything on your phone will still be functional. Plus its just as snappy as cm6 and I seem to get a far greater battery life with it.

If you want to be able to install CM6 you need the ENG Bootloader.

Unrevoked isn't correct root look in the sticky topics to root correctly you need to boot into recovery to wipe when you do you select wipe the select dalvic catch and wipe data factory reset then select flash rom select cm then wait until its done then reboot you have installed cm I'll see if I can find I link for rooting

Yes you can should be fine unrevoked isn't full root i.e. root/nand unlock its just root you need nand unlocked so follow the tutorial from the beginning. Its like starting over no biggie the reason it said to use unrevoked because its a root method just not a full root method

Did you change kernals I heard there were gps problems with cm and kernals what cm are you running? Cm6 rc2 from 8_15 or the nightly? Also try putting the power control widget on you're screen and pushing the gps button on that that's been my fix in several roms some of them have it off by default

I just learned that the current iteration of BFS breaks GPS on many devices. BFS isn't part of CM, but if you're using one of the custom kernels with BFS and your GPS isn't working, thats the cause.

I rooted using unrevoked and unrevoked forever, but I wasn't able to flash cyanogenmod, so I read up on NAND unlock and flashed the PC36IMG.zip from toast's method, but now it always restarts into bootloader and i cant get the os to load. Please help!
You should already have nand unlocked if you did unrevoked. All you you need is the eng hboot fix. Flash that zip in recovery , you can find it in dev section, then you should be able to flash CM hope that helps

This happened to me also. Go into recovery, run the mod zip again. If that doesn't work for you, you never saw me.
when i go into recovery it says E:can't open /cache/recovery/command
so i dont know how to flash anything
oh I see well try running ruu then just do unrevoked one click and youll be set just when you try to flash CM again after that make sure you flash hboot fix or it won't work.
Edit
Just read your post carefully lol czn you go into bootloader

I had this exact issue after I loaded that PC136 file and installed it on my EVO. I wasn't able to do anything but load the bootloader. I finally had enough after 5 hours of no help, and found the shipping ROM and reinstalled the original ROM on my EVO.
i have since re-rooted and will not even dare to go back at this time to try that mess!
People can get you rooted, but they don't know how to get you out of a hole!

Use Unrevoked to root, and it will also give you s-off as well.

Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It's a more full root option. Allows you to flash hboot versions, splash screens and a few other things.
You don't really need it, it's more for advanced users but it's nice to have it off to give you the possibility of doing further tweaks to your device.
You can still flash ROM's and Kernels with it on.

No you can't, only the rru.can be flashed
Also s-off is rooting, it allows for access to system files

You don't have to have s-off. When running unrevoked, before you let it do anything, uncheck "disable phone security" and it will keep s-on. Much easier if you may ever have to send it in for service.

I, too, flashed multiple ROMs before doing S-OFF. S-OFF is for flashing things like radios, HBOOT versions, and splash screens. And metamorph things too I believe.

Hmm....I'm still not sure what exactly I need to do to root. I checked those links, and it looks like "unrevoked" is how you root, but it seems like there are different unrevoked software, so I'm not sure what to pick.
I was taken to "unrevoked3" but it said "this does not currently work with stock froyo phones." My phone is stock froyo.
Guess I just want to make sure before I do anything. With my previous phones, it was as simple as clicking a button to root.
It is with this phone as well
Unrevoked 3 should work fine as long as its for the incredible

It doesn't matter which one you used. As long as you know that you used Unrevoked to begin with. When unrooting, just flash the Unrevoked S on tool, in recovery. Then boot to the bootloader, and confirm that S is ON. Once it is, then run an RUU or flash a PC36IMG of an RUU using the bootloader. I'll attatch a link to the Unrevoked S on tool for you.
