Hi All,
I have a stock Froyo 2.2 ROM on GSM Desire (rooted + S-Off)
am very happy with it but my internal memory is full (+/- 6Mb) thus would like to move some apps to SD
I am newbie on this subject and yes, I tried using the search but I get "Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in 20-30 minutes." this happens for a few days now
all help is welcome and sorry for my english !!
Thanks
You need a custom ROM and an EXT3 partition on your SD card
yep, partition your SD card this way: first a FAT 32 partition and AFTER a 512mb or a 1 gb ext 3 or ext 4 partition (use gparted and a card reader or mount sd card while in recovery)
then install a custom rom with apps2sd+ (there is a variety of them, if you want to stick with the stock desire froyo there is one with apps2sd+ added, however you could also try leedroid - modified desire rom or baadnewz DHD - desire HD rom)
there is also a soulution called data2sd or data2ext or data2whatever (i dont really know the diffrence) it moves even more stuff to sd card, but you would need to have a class 6 sd card (at least) but you will probably be okay with A2SD+ (also i think it is less stable than a2sd+)
i use apps2sd+ rom with 512mb ext4 on a class 2 sd card, baadnewz DHD rom 1.9.1 and it works fast (really fast), and after installing all of my apps i have still around 90mb of free space! (while on a rom without apps2sd+ i was out of free internal memory, had 7mb left or something)
Thanks for your detailed reply
will do a nandroid and try one.
will I still have clockworkmod recovery if i experiment with roms ?
Yep as it's not touched by custom ROMs
Hi
Does a rom exist which features gingerbread 2.3 and sense UI which doesn't require a custom hboot or a partitioned SD card. I.e. will run from a fully standard rooted htc desire?
If so what is it called, if not will someone briefly explain what the extra partition is required for?
thank you
Jim
dont know if there is one without need of an ext partition.
But its very usefull!
Why you need it?
Because, Dev's have moved files from the system to the partition on the sd.
In most cases you gain much more space for apps.
If you want to know more, search the wiki or forum for : a2sd, data2sd, data2ext, and so on.
its very easy to do, but safe all your data on the sd before!
only thing you need is a 500+ free space on your sd-card
if you have a linux, you only need to install gparted
else
start a linux-livecd of your choice(maybe Gparted-livecd)
Insert your Sd into a Cardreader
if you already use gparted, its easy, there will be an fat 32 partition
click resize and move the right slider so you gain about 500mb-1gb free space
now click into the gray area and click new
than partition as ext (would suggest ext-3 (best suported))
you should be done
now you can try roms wich need ext-partition
good luck
You can run roms with standard hboot but you need an ext partition purely because you will install about 3 apps and you will run out of space. That's why they make it mandatory to have.

Now that you know why you need EXT partition here is 1 of many tutorials how to do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9580475&postcount=2
you need 1 Fat32 partition followed by 1 EXT4 partition (recommended by most developers 1GB if you want to use sense 3.0 goodies).
I have the same question: which ROM actually gives you gingerbread and sense 3.0 at the same time? There is no problem with partitioned SD-card.
So far I have found this post from Cool Kingdom, which seems (from comments) great:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121
havn't tried it yet, but just wondering if there is anything to choose from?
PS: is there a way to partition my SD card without card reader, just using the phone itself?
Thanks a lot

New versions of ClockworkMod Recovery can do it under Advanced/Partition SD.
You can install InsertCoin - it's a great gingerbread and sense 3.0 rom. I've been using it for over a month and it's great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
About the ext partition - I think it's a must. You'll get plenty of space for apps...
Looking at the Cool Kingdom rom on youtube, it seems pretty laggy in comparison to the InsertCoin rom I have installed on my desire. InsertCoin seems to be more optimised I find, but you'll need to install the nightly version to have 3D widgets and the 3D homescreen.
I'm using app2sd+ on my Desire with the Leedroid ROM. The ext3 partition on my SD card has over 500MB free space yet my Desire still reports low internal storage - 6MB and at one point last week it was completely full, ie. apps stopped syncing data as they couldn't write to the storage.
I have taken the SD card out of the phone and mounted it on my Linux computer to see how much space it's using:
Code:
/dev/mmcblk0p2 836M 245M 549M 31% /media/f74d2438-5eb6-4570-9ee3-fae2f7e5ef74
(where 549M is free space)
Code:
du -sh /media/f74d2438-5eb6-4570-9ee3-fae2f7e5ef74/*
105M /media/f74d2438-5eb6-4570-9ee3-fae2f7e5ef74/app
2,0M /media/f74d2438-5eb6-4570-9ee3-fae2f7e5ef74/app-private
122M /media/f74d2438-5eb6-4570-9ee3-fae2f7e5ef74/dalvik-cache
Anyone know what could be causing this, and how to get the phone to see how much space is really there?
Basically check if the android has moved any apps to the sd cards fat 32 partition by going to manage applications/SD card in settings
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
This why I dont like app2sd.
It has moved a handful of apps to the FAT32 partition on the SD card. But I don't understand why - I have tonnes of space on the ext3 partition that I created for app2sd+, why does it not see that space?
(I didn't want to use app2sd+ either but I have no choice due to the crappy amount of internal storage on the Desire)
It does it automatically so just move as much apps back to the phone as possible then run the a2sd reinstall command

what command is that out of interest?
also some apps automagically try and set themselves up to install to the fat32 partition - annoying... perhaps google should implement a way to choose where you want them installing, but i guess they think they are catering for the majority...
Once u have moved thwdpps from the fat 32 to the phone that command reruns the a2sd script movring app the apps on the phone to the extra partition
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Sorry I don't understand. If I try to move those apps back to the phone (internal storage) it won't let me because it claims there's not enough space available.
However as I showed in my first post there's plenty of free space on the ext3 partition on my SD card. That ext3 partition is supposed to be used by app2sd+ to extend the internal storage.
I'm not sure what a2sd reinstall has to do with it - I'm not using a2sd I'm using app2sd+ (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7473663&postcount=3)

This has nothing to do with a2sd+ script per se. I'd call that a bug in Leedroid implementation.

Leedroid uses cyanogenmod script. You are talking about Darktremor's, so this won't work.

You have this option in Spare parts for a year or so. I noticed it for the first time in October last year. But it only works for those apps which had hardcoded Froyo a2sd (fat32) capability.
Op, where is your davlik cache? Download diskusage and check what happens. With some 90 apps & stock hboot you should have some 90mb internal. I have about that with my setup from the sig and my 130mb davlik is on /data.
Hi,
In Diskusage->Appstorage shows 319MB for data and 314MB for Applications.
In /data Diskusage shows 132.9MB of data.
I have 5.04MB free internal storage.

Can you Please Post Questions in the Q&A forum Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I am tired searching months for solution... my Internal memory always comes to 10MB or less.
I have:
HTC Desire with LeeDrOiD GB V3.0.8.2 Bravo
Hopefully it use AP2SD+ right
My Titanium backup says:
System ROM: 262 MB (19,2 MB free)
Internal: 158 MB (16,1 MB free)
SD card: 7,23 GB MB (25,8 MB free) ... this is not problem, I just need to erase bunch of mp3, etc...
SD caRD (a2sd): 697 MB (508 MB free)
LeeDrOiD GB V3.0.8.2 Bravo - Nice room, a bunch of unusefull apps but small, probably not big deal.
I prefer my own apss:
music - Mixing
calendar - Busssiness calendar
RealCalc
ES File Explorer
TeamViewer... Alots of them use soo many Internal memory.
Nimbuz.. Also take too much
A long time ago I have erased flash app... Easy live with that. Always fighting with Google earth update to get it right - to have enough memory before update...
LOVE HTC Desire, but that memory... As you can see I am moding user, like to have my apps and right setup.
TO eassy it, to find solutions for me, some more info for you:
I was thinking about to get different ROM.
I think I can live without Sense - using Mail widget and news widged.. but I think it can be raplaced with other market apps... I liked go launcher EX, but didnt have memory space to play with it - therfore it was erased.
I was reading something about HTC allow more freelly deal with this HTC desire memory problem... Didnt find solutions yet.
The 'solution' I found was to sell my Desire and buy a Samsung galaxy 2.
The internal storage on the Desire is just too small for many users, and the complicated and unsupported hacks to expand it with SD card storage are buggy and error prone.

I support this solution!
Yes, I was thinking about that. But I was choosing/looking for my phone soo hard and thinking that this is RIGHT form me... Unofrtunatelly I forgot about memory... My first touch screen phone... (right screen size.. not to big, not too expensive, but new technology- something better, good forum support...) I think you understand.
It is a bit hard for me to buy new one soo early. But I will have to.
OK, I take this as solution.
I ma strongly thinking about to get small or the smallest room which I can get...
Maybe Cyanogen
Any recomendations?
Redux 2 or dGB
Sent from my Redux 2 Desire
Smallest rom you can get right now is dGB. It uses only 60 MB of /system.
SwiftKeyed from dGB with Transparent XDA App
Yes, I am going to try each one.
.. Just need to findout about backups ... if Titanium backup will do all the thing (app + setings)
I have no idea where did I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
Does it worth a try?

Titanium or My Backup will do thing.
It is worth of trying and I recommend it if you want Sense ROM but you need good sd card. I had some lags so switched back to Redux 2.
Hello Xda'ers,
Recently I installed the MIUI 1.10.8 ROM.
I noticed that A2SD said 0.00 so I partitioned it.
Now it says 458MB at the A2SD section.
But what to do now?
Can't move a lot of apps to SD.
With kindest regards,
Mendel
youve kind of answered your own question, just move the apps that you CAN move to the sd
but if youre really looking for lots of space try data2sd
Hey Elliot,
First of all thanks for the quick response.
Do you mean move to SD like to old way? (Select app -> move to SD)
Because it doesn't say there is more space then normal (On the bottom there is a bar of internal memory). When I move apps to SD it's no different then else (like on stock rom).
if you are looking to make your internal memory increase, then you need data2sd
i would recommend the supernova rom for that
data2sd will basically use an extpartition on your sd card as internal memory
p.s. you can always use the thanks button to say thanks
I figured it out.
I had to activate it in the terminal.
Now i can have infinite apps
Can't find the thanks button, im a noob. where is it?
How to activate A2SD+ in MIUI 1-12.23 via terminal?
Hi XDA,
Its my 1st post on the forum.
My Phone: HTC Desire GSM on Orange.
Rooted. S-Off. MIUI 1-12.23.
Kerell: 2.6.3.7.6-cyangenmod-g8913be3
Baseband: 32.48.00.32U_5.10.05.30
I have recently installed MIUI ROM version 1-12. to 23. I have a 16GB SD partitioned ext3 using Revolutionary recovery. (I used Revolutionary to gain S-OFF)
The Partition went smooth, I created 1.5gb ext3 and 64mb swap.
When booted into MIUI it registers as A2SD+ 1.5GB. Success.
I install my apps and run out of internal space at which poitnt I expect my apps to auto install on the ext partition that I had created. This doesn't happen, why?
Ive searched the XDA forums for the answers but have yet to find a solution.
Do I have to activate A2SD via terminal? if so how? What cmds should I enter?
Id be grateful for a guide to activate A2SD on my device.
Thaks guys!
mcshooter
To activate the built in a2sd:
open terminal and run these commands:
su
a2sd install
To move dalvik cache do:
a2sd cachesd
Hope this helps mate
Hello,
First, i'm sorry for my bad english ^^.
Since 2 weeks, i installed the BETA of ICS 4.0.3 on my Desire, and with the build 0.3.2, that works perfectly.
But i have a problem with my space storage. I installed some applications and i have only 20 mb free on my Desire.
I tryied app2sd, but with this appli, we must move application to SD manually, and there are already some "datas" on the telephone. All the application was not moved.
I would like to try S2E but it's only for cyanogen. The marked said me my mobile is not compatible with S2E.
Thank's in advance for your help,
Check / search the ICS-thread. You will find solutions for your problem there.
Thanks for your help.
You can use for this ROM the app "a2sdgui" (look in the market), but i think you have to install the darktremor script over the recovery in the first step.
Are you using a stock hboot? you could get more space by choosing other hboot option (eg Hboot CM7 r2) which re-allocate your phone internal space to optimal.
Also, try to build ext4 partition on your sd card and mount as internal memory.
You have three options as I see it; Darktremor, Amarullz and built-in apps2sd. DT has sound issues if you move dalvik cache to SD Card, Amarullz lags like crazy even though I have class 10 SD Card. The stock apps2sd is the best choice out of three.
Use Terminal Emulator and run
su
a2sd install
To move dalvik cache to SD Card
su
a2sd cachesd
Hi,
I've just this weekend installed starburst froyo for htc desire ROM on my desire.
For just this problem, to little space left on internal memory.
After installation i now have a cool 1.8GB of internal memory to install everything i want.
On my class 4 sdcard i have little to no lag. Thinking about upgrading to class 10, just to get ride of the last lag.
Maybe, starburst is something for you to ?
Grtz.
I think the builtin a2sd is the better solution. I have a SD memory of 4go but it's a class 2 only...
I am thinking about buy a class 4 memory... it's only 7€ for 8go.
Thanks all for your messages ^^
Edit :
I can't post in the developper section, so i post here. I have a little bug with the beta of ICS. When i zoom in on a picture, i can't zoom out correctly... There is a bug.
