Hi,
Here are few different options I did try before post here:
- Backup sms to memory card -> it create .vmg files.
- Tried to open .vmg in MS Excel and save it as sms.xml and open it with SMS Backup & restore from market
None of the above did not help me to restore messages from my old Samsung wave to DHD.
Is there any other option, how to do that?

Hello,
The problem is this: I just received my HTC Touch Pro 2. Before this I had a Diamond. I backed-up all the data inside the Diamond with Sprite Backup Tool before selling it expecting that I could restore the backup on my new Touch Pro 2.
It seems that I can't import the messages now. I am trying to restore all the data with Level 2 but I get this error: "personal database cannot be restored" or something like this. The other seetings/files are beeing restore (ex: owner information or any installed applications).
So right now I'm having a backup file. Does anyone know how can I get my messages out of that file?
Regards
For future purposes, use Microsoft myphone service. It's free and syncs all your contacts, sms, videos and music on their servers. When you upgrade your phone, you can easily sync all that data back to the new phone.
Or, you could download Jeyo Mobile Extender - works with Outlook in that you can sync, copy, import, export SMS to your heart's content...
Guides on how to restore SMS messages and manage SMS on computer
Sometimes we are bothered a lot by tons of messages in our phone, especially they will slow down running speed of our phone, though, there are lots of important messages we need to store. We could send them to restore in the computer
You can Google to get the tools or simply download it here:

Hello
So i have finally decided to try out custom roms . But i need a way to migrate my sms, contacts and calender to the new rom without any compatibility issue
i know that google has contact calendar sync but i am guessing their are better ways to migrate all of them including sms at once
is their Any free app that can make this happen
thanks
not exactly sure what you mean by "sms contacts calendar" but here's what I do. My Contacts and Calendar are synced to my google account so as soon as I sign in on a new rom those are automatically synced up. As far as my actual sms messages I use a free app called "SMS Backup" that stores them as xml on the sdcard. So just install the app on the rom and then restore.
Hope that helps.
thanks for the reply and sorry for the confusion, have edited the post . i am looking for an all in one app that can do all the the three task at once. i have seen some backup application but they also backup settings and other things. i think that will create compatibility issue
SMS - "SMS Backup & Restore" from the market
Contacts - People App > Menu > Export > Export To SD Card
Calendar - Sync with Google
My Backup Pro can backup and restore selected items. All you need is to tick the box before SMS, MMS, Contacts and Calendar when performing a backup and then do the same when restoring. I think that would be your one-click app you are looking for.
Whenever I am trying to restore my SMS file, the programs crash after importing around 400 sms, or dont work at all. Total number of smsm 6500
So far, "SMS to text" crashes after 400+ imports, same as "SMS Backup and restore"
The restore app included in WTS wont work at all.
I had the same problem even before opening the bootloader. Those backup files where generated from their respective programs after importing them.
By splitting the files to smaller ones I am able to keep importing but the import number keeps droping. The last ones have to be around 100 sms per file so as for the up not to forceclose
WTF???????????? I dont wont to have to resplit and reimport 50 or so files
I have the "master" backup files in both xls (SMS Backup and restore) and txt SMS to text
Any ideas, kindly accepted
EDIT
Found the solution, but I dont like it
I wiped out my system, installed SMS Backup and restore and my contacts only and was able to import all messages in 1 go. That said, when I was trying before to import all sms I had 32MB free memory. Exactly how much memory do these programs need to import 6500 sms. 32MB should be more than enough in the first place.
Not tested it, but I assume that after wiping out the device the other programs should work too *sigh*
So whats the moral lesson? import sms before installing anything else.
I want to get all my messages off my S8 and onto (possibly) a Google Pixel device. However, due to Samsung's Advanced Messaging, my normal backup and restore app (SMS Backup & Restore) doesn't "see" a bunch of the messages.
Is there a way to either convert the "chats" to text messages or otherwise migrate them to any other device that is not Samsung?
Edit: I'm aware of apps to export to PDF (e.g. SMS Share 2, Legal Text) but I actually want to backup and restore to a new device, not just have an archive of them.
