[Q] Get my "chats" (texts) off the S8 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I want to get all my messages off my S8 and onto (possibly) a Google Pixel device. However, due to Samsung's Advanced Messaging, my normal backup and restore app (SMS Backup & Restore) doesn't "see" a bunch of the messages.
Is there a way to either convert the "chats" to text messages or otherwise migrate them to any other device that is not Samsung?
Edit: I'm aware of apps to export to PDF (e.g. SMS Share 2, Legal Text) but I actually want to backup and restore to a new device, not just have an archive of them.

Import SMS from a Diamond backup made with Sprite

Hello,
The problem is this: I just received my HTC Touch Pro 2. Before this I had a Diamond. I backed-up all the data inside the Diamond with Sprite Backup Tool before selling it expecting that I could restore the backup on my new Touch Pro 2.
It seems that I can't import the messages now. I am trying to restore all the data with Level 2 but I get this error: "personal database cannot be restored" or something like this. The other seetings/files are beeing restore (ex: owner information or any installed applications).
So right now I'm having a backup file. Does anyone know how can I get my messages out of that file?
Regards
For future purposes, use Microsoft myphone service. It's free and syncs all your contacts, sms, videos and music on their servers. When you upgrade your phone, you can easily sync all that data back to the new phone.
Or, you could download Jeyo Mobile Extender - works with Outlook in that you can sync, copy, import, export SMS to your heart's content...

SMS backup problems

Whenever I am trying to restore my SMS file, the programs crash after importing around 400 sms, or dont work at all. Total number of smsm 6500
So far, "SMS to text" crashes after 400+ imports, same as "SMS Backup and restore"
The restore app included in WTS wont work at all.
I had the same problem even before opening the bootloader. Those backup files where generated from their respective programs after importing them.
By splitting the files to smaller ones I am able to keep importing but the import number keeps droping. The last ones have to be around 100 sms per file so as for the up not to forceclose
WTF???????????? I dont wont to have to resplit and reimport 50 or so files
I have the "master" backup files in both xls (SMS Backup and restore) and txt SMS to text
Any ideas, kindly accepted
EDIT
Found the solution, but I dont like it
I wiped out my system, installed SMS Backup and restore and my contacts only and was able to import all messages in 1 go. That said, when I was trying before to import all sms I had 32MB free memory. Exactly how much memory do these programs need to import 6500 sms. 32MB should be more than enough in the first place.
Not tested it, but I assume that after wiping out the device the other programs should work too *sigh*
So whats the moral lesson? import sms before installing anything else.

Can sms/mms be merged?

Is there a way to merge SMS/MMS messages from an old phone (backed up with Titanium) to a new phone that has text messages? I'd like to end up with both the old and new messages.
Alternatively, is there a way to selectively restore some text threads but not all threads?
I remember being able to restore SMS / MMS with TB Pro, and the messages would merge( old / new) . But that was a while ago. I haven't done that in a long while. Reason being it can cause issues. I don't recall TB Pro being able to select specific message threads to restore. But you could always restore all of them. Then go back in and delete the threads you do not want.

[Q] Back-up, restore sms

I want to factory reset my LG G3 (D855, android 4.4.2). I have used Settings -> Backup & reset -> LG Backup service to back-up just about everything onto SD card. At the end of the process, messages failed to be backed-up while the rest Contacts, Calendar etc. are OK). Am not sure whether this refers to SMS messages (of note - I have no MMS in my collection of SMS, i.e. only text SMS), which I do want to back-up and restore afterwards (after the factory reset). I am hoping to avoid having to use an app to achieve this e.g. SMS Backup & Restore. Would anyone be able to confirm whether the LG Backup service include backing up the SMS? Thank you in advance.
In my case it backups the sms, yes.

Samsung Text Message App Replying to Old Number

I just upgraded from Samsung Galaxy S7 to S9 and used MyBackup Pro to backup and restore all my text messages. On the S7, I was able to use *82 prefix in my contacts to show my number and text messages went through without any issues. After the restore on the new S9, I am able to receive the text messages but when I reply, it does not like the *82 prefixing my contact numbers so I removed them from my contacts. I also remove the recipient and readded the new one without the *82 but when I reply, it always grabs the old contact number even though I do not have the old contact number anywhere on my phone's contact list. Does anyone know if the old number is being retrieved from some metadata that is hidden? If so, can that me modified?
I was able to resolve this issue by restoring to a new phone. When I originally backed up with SMS Backup and Restore, I opened the XML file and stripped all the *82 code from the file. Then I restored the backup but it did not overwrite all the fields in the the bugle_db. I was still stuck with the same issue. I then tried using the same modified XML file to restore onto a new phone and bingo, no more *82. Problem resolved.
So does anyone know how to clear the bugle_db on a unrooted phone? Keep in mind clearing the data/cache from Messages app is not the same.
