Okay did the downgrade method, got S-OFF, permroot, unlock, everything!!
Now to do what I wanted to, get stock gingerbread or anything close to it on my phone? However, I searched around and I can only find ROMs based on Sense UI and I really do not like Sense...
Are there any stock Gingerbread ROMs or anything similar to the "Oxygen Gingerbread Rom" for the Desire?
And if there are none, then can I theme my current ROM to make it look like Gingerbread? There are many Gingerbread launchers in the Market however, I would like to have the black notification bar and the icons, ect.
Thanks!

Gridlocks cm7 is straight from source with no tweaks so should be closer to official cm7 when released, phunkycow customises his, it's horses for courses really but I've stuck with Gridlocks build
Which is more stable? Sorry for the questions

I wood really like a rom which is just plain android (no htc sense ui). As I would like to use launcher pro beta as my home. Or even better a method of removing sense ui from stock rom.
Thanks
Dion
I would suggest you try one of the Froyo roms if you are wanting a rom without sense ui.

why would you want a nexus one :s its an ugly desire with less ram
In retrospect, i would probably have chosen the nexus too, just for the quicker release of OTA updates from Google. But with this in mind, and when the Desire officially receives the Froyo update, wouldn't updates be released quicker through HTC if they get rid of sense ui?...

I hate sense to. Its the stupiest of all home screen. But installing anything else means rooting which I dont like just now.
It is impossible to use any ROM except the stock ROM on a non-rooted desire.

Wow, why get a phone with Sense if you're going to complain?
Try out adw launcher or the stock Nexus One launcher us available for download as well. You do lose all things Sense if you use it though.

I found the stock launcher here and installed it on my Desire and used it with no problems, you can also find the really cool gallery app from the Nexus One here which has some really cool features that I wish HTC hadn't taken out ie date/location grouping.

I don't hate sense. I do hate the sense homescreen which i have replaced by launcherpro. But the facebook integration and the interface changes do make an addition imo! It could be smoother though ,hope that changes in 2.2
So I'm looking to dabble into sense a little. My only thing is it takes for every to set up. So I see there is Unity and Coredroid. Both have sense 3.0. I'm looking for a pure gingerbread stock type rom. Id prefer not to have sense 3.0. But if its my only option that's cool as well. I know rmk said he's not releasing a stock sense until it comes out for the desire z and I have his froyo on my computer. Just trying to see what's up there. Its hard to search on tapatalk. A name is all I need. I don't mind scrolling back tons n tons of pages.

Coredroid made me like sense. The is a gb sense leak from htc. Rmk is talking about sense 3.0. But if you want a stock gb sense there is one in the dev section.
I personally didn't dig it. Try coredroid see how you like it

Yeah I had a coredroid backed up. I had FINALLY set it all up and then just backed up to come back to later. I'm using it right now and I like it for the most part. Not as light as pure aosp roms but who knows. I said ill give it a trial run. Do you know how to disable the regular messaging app so no notifications come up. Like on the icon or anything. I'm using handcent because stock loads too slow

No I don't sorry. There are some issues with core I wish I could fix. Only allows 1page texts..after 160 they don't get the message at all. You don't get an error but it didn't go through. I really wish I could get some pointers on deving because I would love to dedicate mucho time to make it actually stable and fast.

Hello everybody. I have an unrooted Desire Z with Gingerbread and Sense 2.1. Because of feeling noob, I am scared to root my Desire Z, but also I really want to use Sense 3.0 lock screen. Is there a way for me?
Thanks
Not without rooting I'm afraid. I'm currently using virtuous 2.0 which is based off the official DZ GB release. With the sense 3.0 lockscreen and it rocks.
If you need help rooting head over to #G2ROOT irc and they will be happy to help

Any way you could link to a thread/post on how to get that lockscreen on ROMs other than Unity? I remember seeing bits and pieces of how but I cant search because I'm on my phone at the moment.

Doesn't that suck up a ton of memory?
You must root your phone. I recommend Virtuous Unity or Virtuous 2.0, both with the overclocked Unity B4 kernel. Good luck!

I am using the sense 3.0 lockscreen with Virtuous 2.0 as well. Whilst I dont play lots of 3d games etc I dont have any problems with memory.
It really does run well.
Running Sense 2 OR 3 requires, in my opinion, removing unneccesary apps with Titanium to free up space. I took out WiFi calling, the drm, the email and stock apps/widgets, and Facebook/Twitter.

Thanks,
I have installed that app and it works nice. but sometimes I have to unlock both lockscreens original one and agile. Is there any other way to replace the original one.
I was thinking about something like this:

Because I would also like to see that nice music widget on lockscreen and some other stuff.
I have downloaded and install app from that thread but when I restart phone I still have old lockscreen.

Download "No Lock" from the market. It disables the stock lockscreen so you can use agile lock or any other lockscreen
does anyone know if you can delete the stock htc 2.1 lockscreen using titanium back up??
thanks

You could just switch to a Desire HD ROM. Plenty of them in the development section.
Don't know if there's a way of porting just the camera app.

I know but the thing is i dont want to risk ruining my phone totally by rooting it and etc. Since if i tried i probably would mess it all up. But i may consider trying it maybe then.
Rooting your phone is daunting at first but trust me its a lot easier than you think. Plus its the only way you would be able to make the changes you want. Check out this link, its very helpful for new members

It all looks very complicated, but i think i should be able to follow it! When you root the phone do you still get like all the normal android stuff? Market and etc? I know thats probably a stupid question but i really know nothing about rooting phones. Also do you get the like HTC Apps, Eg "Facebook For HTC Sense" and etc?
Rooting your phone doesn't change anything other than giving you access to the root directory in your handset, which is required in order to flash a custom rom. Then its up to you to choose a rom that suits your needs. Have a browse of the roms that are available. make sure you choose a sense based rom if you're looking for sense apps. I personally prefer aosp roms as they're based on the pure android releases and I find the sense roms to be a bit laggy. Currently using cyanogenmod 7.1 and its awesome, fast and stable! Keep in mind that facebook, gmail etc are still available on the aosp roms, you don't need sense for those

Ive managed to successfully route my phone and added a custom ROM to. I added the CoolSense one . However now i have Hardly any memory on my memory card now :/. I only have 500MB free. And thats without my pictures, apps and etc :/. If i were to get a new SD card. How would i go about getting all the ROMs and that to the new SD card. Or would i have to do it all over again?
With the new method called revoluitonary the rooting process could not be easier:
http://revolutionary.io
LeeDroid HD is a direct port from Desire HD to Desire. If you flash this rom, your phone will have all the software features of Desire HD, including the camera app.
Just remember that Desire HD has 8MP camera and more RAM, so it will always capture better pics and function more smoothly.

I dont want half sense half stock experience. I want full vanilla android gingerbread. No custom themes, launchers, apps and stuff. Just vanilla gingerbread like on nexus s.
So i did further research and found rom called desired aosp, that was exactly what i was looking for. But the problem is that its no longer maintained and it has bluetooth problem. Anyone can recommend something similair to what desired aosp rom had?

If you want as good as it gets Stock Rom, Try RCMix. Comes Super Stock Look, feel, & has the options to change small tweeks for personalized function like a battery percentage, the ability to turn on features like 3d effects, etc.
It also has awesome support by development, &other users.
Don't settle untill you've tryed the RCMix Rom.
I forgot, you wont see it on the front page, so here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261721 or use rom manager to download a rom & find it in there under RCTeam RCMix. The Newest Version is in apparently in the finishing testing stages & should be available soon. These roms are released with minimal issues due to the extensive testing by the devs.

Why don't use it and just use any launcher you like?
