ok i have a G2 and i have been trying for the past 3 days to flash CWM3 and cannot get it done im in the command on my laptop and i type the following
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img than the cmd prompt says to me
waiting for device and just sits here now i go back to the HBOOT screen and it than says
sending 'recovery' <4182>...FAILED <status malformed <1bytes>>
finished. total time: 0.001s
now i really want to flash this recovery so i can run a Gingerbread ROM please someone help thanx!
I would recommend redownloading the image and trying to fastboot again. Alternatively, you can place it on the root of your sd card (name it recovery), open term emulator on phone and type "su" enter then type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Reboot into recovery and if its orange, your good.

Hi, it's the second time i try to install TWRP recovery v2.2.0+ and each time it keeps getting stuck at the boot with the message
Bootloader version 0.03.06-ics unlock mode
Booting recovery kernel image.
Waited for more than 10 minutes and nothing happened.
i can reboot and and log into ics normally i just don't have access to a recovery.
---I want to know how to properly install twrp , what went wrong and how to fix it.:
the script:
@echo off
cls
echo reboot to bootloader
adb wait-for-device
adb shell su -c "mount -o remount, rw /system/ && mv /etc/install-recovery.sh /etc/install-recovery.offsh;"
adb reboot-bootloader
echo flashing recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery-A100ICS-TWRP-2.2.0.img
echo -
echo -
fastboot reboot
adb wait-for-device
echo check the recovery XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX--This is where i'm stuck at.
adb reboot recovery
MY SETUP:
ROM FLEX-A100-REAPER-RELIX_Rev2 , OC A 1500, CWM was working ok.
WIN64
I would suggest downloading the image again, then trying the install script after you delete the current image with the newly downloaded image.
If you feel OK using a terminal its pretty straight forward
Open a terminal and CD to the folder with adb fast boot and recovery image
Example
cd c:\recovery
If powered on type
adb reboot bootloader
After it boots into download protocol type
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Twrp.IMG being whatever the file name is.
fastboot reboot
Let it boot into android then
adb reboot recovery
See what it does.

That's the only boot loader we can flash on so that's fine. Did you download the image again?

yes i did , donloaded openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.1-a100.img,
renamed to recovery.img and flashed without any problem.
I redownloaded and flashed it again,
To no avail...
Nothing else to suggest ? I'd like to use a touch enabled recovery.

Agreed.
I would try again make sure to: 'fastboot erase recovery', then 'fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img' (make sure it's recovery [space] then the img name).
You can also try Zeronull's 2.1.1/2.2.0 and Linuxsociety's 2.2.2.0. It could be a bad upload of the 2.2.2.1 img
Answer
There's a file in /system/etc/ called install_recovery.sh that may need to be deleted for the custom recovery to stick. You need root to remove it.
sounds like you may need to start fresh.
Use fastboot to erase the system, boot, recovery and cache, perform a fastboot -w and then install the new recovery and ROM. Erasing the system will kill that recovery file from above.
Let me know. There are a couple of other options that I can think of.
---------- Post added at 06:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:32 AM ----------
Here is what it should look like in fastboot on the command prompt yours will be different of course because mine is setup differently. But basically load up fastboot on windows or whatever you use and first erase the recovery then run fastboot -w and then flash the twrp recovery image and finally fastboot reboot. After reboot hold down volume button and enter recovery as usual. Should work then. My explanation is above. It's the install_recovery.sh file fastboot -w takes care of it! Sorry for bumping and old thread. But it doesn't look like it ever got solved.

I am following the directions from htcdev.com/bootloader
I got to the point where I am supposed to "get_identifier_token"
Now my phone is connected as it should be, I am in "fastoot usb".
Still, the only thing happens is that I get the following message in command prompt: "waiting for device". Nothing happens. I tried to restart PC and phone again: same problem.
Does anyone have an idea about what I'm doing wrong? I'm stuck.
Okay. Now I unlocked bootloader. I think the problem was USB-debugging was not turned on.
Trying to run clockworkmod, but keep getting error messages:
"you must root your phone for ROM manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su".
When I try to flash clockworkmod recovery I get the following error:
"An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands".
My deviced is with unlocked bootloader, buy of course still S-ON. I understood from the threads around that that's not a problem.

How can I install a custom ROM?
How can I install data2sd?
Can someone help? Thanks a lot.

Hi, what you need to do is go into your bootloader as you usually do, Volume - and Power Button, plug your USB and go into fastboot USB. Then you need to create a file on you C: drive called "fastboot" and put the following files in there "adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, AdbWinUsbApi.dll & fastboot.exe" and your recovery image, I suggest you use the offical clock work mod recovery which is available here,
if you do not have these files you can download them from here,
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474956
once you do this then open a command dos window by typing cmd in the start search box of windows.... once the command window opens go to the right folder of C:\fastboot> where you saved the files.
Then as your phone is in fastboot USB and you are in the command window C:\fastboot>, type in the command window the following,
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Then press enter, what you should see is the below,
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
sending 'recovery' (2224 KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... OKAY
If you follow the above then you should have clockworkmod recovery, you can then take the USB out and go back to the hboot in you bootloader and choose recovery under hboot by navigating with the volume button and power button.
I do need to inform you though that if you are one of the unlucky WFS owners that get the "Black Screen Recovery" issue where you go into recovery and you only get a black screen and you tactile buttons are on then you need to follow the bellow method to be able to see you recovery on you PC screen than on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781105
Also here is a youtube video of what I mean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgrPctWKW8E
I know all this as I had the same issue and this helped me. Now I feel that I need to inform you about other issues... When you unlock the bootloader you can't flash a ROM and then just switch your phone on and it boots into the new ROM, there is a process you need to follow.
When you choose your ROM, and not all ROMs work with the Wildfire S new batch of phone as I had to find out the hard way, you need to flash your ROM and then open the .zip file of your phone copy the boot.img of the ROM paste it in the c:\fastboot> directory and again in the command window type,
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You will see the below,
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash boot boot.img
sending 'boot' (2224 KB)... OKAY
writing 'boot'... OKAY
Then type,
c:\fastboot>fastboot reboot
And your phone will reboot into the new ROM allow 10 to 15 minutes... BE PATIENT.
I hpe the above helps you.

Thanks a lot for the quick and professional answer. By the time I read it, I managed to root.
I used rezo609's all-in-one utility, which I found in at this location:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697985
I got the advice from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927757
I installed the Speeddroid ROM and data2SD as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932534&highlight=data2sd+install
The result: so far everything working. It looks like a new phone!
stuck to root
Hi,
I have the same situation here.
But Which tool do you run of the [UTILITY]rezo609's All-In-One Utility ? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697985&page=3)
In the whole topic there is no how to.
I managed to unlock the bootloader, and clockwork recovery is also on there.
I just want to root the phone (not to put an other rom)
Thanks in advance,
I'm confused.... I'm following all the instructions using the toolkit v10.
I was able to unlock the bootloader without an issue, but when it comes to rooting, I'm having problems.
I use option 16 for the build, then option 4 to root. In the fastboot screen, the bottom Fastboot status says FAILInvalid Command as soon as it pulls up, then it goes to "reboot" after the 30 second wait.
It doesn't reboot automatically, so I press the power button to reboot it myself. then it reboots and then goes back into fastboot with the fail invalid command. Then this comes up:
downloading 'boot.img'
FAILED (remote: Invalid Command)
finished. total time: 0.006s
Waiting for device.
I'm at a loss. I feel like last time did this, I had to get the factory image and the boot.img file from somewhere and place them in the folders within the c:/galaxy nexus toolkit folder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Nick
put on your big boy pants and root your phone this way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529058
I have tried that... i get a similar message:
sending 'recovery' (5990 KB)
FAILED (remote: Invalid Argument)
finished. total time: 0.006s
then the fastboot status on the phone changes to "download 005d9800"
not sure what to make of that either.
is the cwm/twrp image actually named recovery? and is it in the fastboot.exe directory?
are you typing the command correctly? ( fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
It's in the same "platform-tools" folder that the fastboot.exe file is in. it's called recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-toro.img, so i type fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-toro.img and hit enter. That's what made sense to me in reading that post.

do you have the files in the same directory with your fastboot.exe?
you could also boot into your custom recovery and use adb to push a rom to your phone.

Connect device in fastboot to PC, manually update drivers, disconnect device, reboot PC
Connect device again, flash recovery, after it finishes, disconnect USB, use volume keys to "reboot recovery", reconnect USB, manually update drivers again
'adb devices' should return your SN
'adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/' or if that doesn't do it, 'adb push ROM.zip /data/media/'

Hello please can anyone advise me and forgive any wrong terms..
I am trying to push twrp to my lg g4 H815 20g using adb and fastboot but everytime it comes back with
error: cannot load 'twrp.img': No such file or directory
PS C:\Users\Anthony\Desktop\ADB>
i have tried renaming twrp file to various things and changing the command fastboot flash twrp.img or fastboot flash recovery.img
but i keep getting errors of one discription or the other..
I have followed guild after guild but still not made the magic happen..
Bootloader is officially unlocked via LG and twrp for lg g4 downloaded from twrp site.
Been trying for two days to install a recovery so i can also root but having no luck.
please any help or advise would be appreciated..
you must put the "twrp.img" into to your "ADB" folder and then exec this:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Hi thanks for your help
yes I have the img file in adb/fastboot folder and been doing this and still comes back in cmd as no such file etc..
Tried renaming twrp img file and changing fastboot flash line to match but still no joy..
Tried earlier g4 twrps same outcome it’s as if downloaded recovery’s are corrupt or something as they don’t appear to be being seen..
What is best name for the twrp image or do you leave it as it came downloaded and run the
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img Regardless of what twrp called when downloaded..
Thanks
Have you changed directory to the sdk folder? Or shift + right clicked in folder "open cmd here"?
The command is "fastboot flash *whatever recovery is called in adb folder*"
I ended up changing the name to "twrp3.1.1" or whatever cause it had a hell of a name when downloaded. Just name whatever you want as long as you call it same thing when flashing.
Make sure you also have a copy of it on your SD too because it wont stick and when you reboot to the recovery you then need to reflash the image from in there.
Hi I think it was successful i changed name of twrp on second attempt and it seemed to work..
only problem was when i tried to manually boot into recovery via volume down and power i did something wrong and accidentally reset the dam thing instead of booting into twrp......will have to do it all over again but hopefully i have it sorted..
