I became interesed in using linux apps like wine so i'm looking for some basic tutorials to install linux on my defy so that i can use, both androd and linux whenever i want.
Thanks !
i dont think their will be any basic tuts on it porting a whole os is a trick business. Although you could use some kind of remote desktop perhaps
i saw that guide "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723493" running ubuntu on desire...
was wondering if it would be possible to run other distros via this method? e.g. puppy linux would be nice as it is very fast and light weight... and how well does the actual ubuntu works on desire? (does usb host work for example?)
The linux distro has to be compiled for ARM processor. If puppy linux has arm flavor, I think there's no reason not capable to run in desire.
cool thx... will try when i get my desire
Hi everybody
I have windows xp sp3 and Ubuntu 11.10 installed on my computer
I need help in setting up my building environment for android.
I want to download and compile android 3.2 source code (honeycomb, and don't ask why )
Which OS is better to set the building environment on ? winxp or Ubuntu
Btw I prefer windows because Ubuntu is slow on my computer.
Sent from my still alive, ICS capable HTC Wildfire.
I Think your supposed to use ubuntu because android is built using linux (ubuntu)
i have win7 and ubuntu is slow on mine aswell it takes a while to do stuff

The answer is the same as any other "will X legacy device run Y Android version" question: if a developer creates one.
It will with a proper kernel (how hard it will be? who knows), if we had the drivers for this device we could say for sure yes
P.S. I'd like to try it, even if it's still beta and even if it's a binary-port

Well if you do, I'll be glad to test
No it simply wouldn't. To many hardware limitations.
Andriod 4.4.4
if it can run andriod 4.4.4 (cm11 build m8.1). I'm pretty sure it will run andriod l too
DHD
Our DHD can run Jelly Bean , Kitkat and I sure L is not a problem . :good:
AFAIK, the hardware architecture of our phone has been known for long, so ... as long as the binary blobs and drivers aren't incompatible with the new stuff, then the only problem is to "get all pieces together" (adapt kernel, drivers & stuff) and build the rom.
So IMHO, as long as the new versions don't require more RAM or more internal storage than our phone possesses, or requires an internal architecture far different from the one from the DHD, then our "old" DHD should devinitely run whatever upcoming version may come !

Would it be possible to mainline the Linux kernel of the OP3 and make it a great device to install Linux on?
