Hi guys. Thinking of installing the Leedroid ROM on my phone. Currently have Android Revolution HD and as you might know a few hours ago I went through some troubleshooting that had me praying to God Almighty because I'm a bit of a noob and I got really worried. Lol
Anyway, I know how to flash ROM's and Radios but how do I flash kernels and ROM "Extras"?
It was flashing an "Extra" that got me in the problem into the mess in the first place so I just wanted to confirm how to do it properly. Also, is flashing the kernel as simple as flashing a ROM? ie:
-Boot into CWM
-Nandroid Backup
-Wipe All
-Install new ROM
-Make sure it all works
-Back into CWM
-Install kernel zip from SD card
?
Thanks very much guys.
When I installed leedroid I installed rom then straight after the kernal without even rebooting. Worked fine for me.
I'll give it a shot later. But still how do I flash extras? Like a Sense 3.0 lockscreen for Leedroid?
Put it on your ssd and open it up in a file explorer (think leedroid has astro) and just run it and it will install.
If that doesn't work for an extra then boot into CMW and install it via zip, but if I recall correctly that won't work for the lock screen and has to be done via opening it up in a file explorer.
If the addon or kernel you've downloaded is a zip file, the easiest way to be sure it's flashable in CWM is to open it up in 7zip, WinRar, etc. and see what's inside. If there is a folder called "META-INF" then you know it can be flashed by CWM.
Most zips are CWM flashable, but some won't be, especially fonts, bootanimations or splash screens. There are usually instructions in the threads for these, though.
Kernels are often built in to the ROM zip, but if you want to change your kernel I recommend jkoljo's tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852357
I'd also suggest doing a nandroid backup after flashing the ROM and making sure it all works, before flashing anything else, especially with some of the addons that are still in development. It just gives you a bit more security if you need to roll back.
Okay, Please don't say, "USE THE SEARCH" because i have.. and i've read through countless and countless number's of pointless posts and i'm still really confused..
I am currently rooted and running stock rom with nerarchy's kernal
I want to update to the new gingerbread that was released, but i do not want to lose my root, i know the thread in the android development is just the regular OTA copy of the gingerbread update and that i will lose my root if i use that, but i'm sure by now someone has rooted the update, so can someone point me to the link of the new ROOTED gingerbread update?
Also i see there is a new radio and kernal .. so can someone give me complete instructions on how to fully install the new rooted update, and how to flash the radios/kernals after i flash the new gingerbread rom?
Do i just boot into my clockwork recovery (or do i need to use amron ra?) and then flash zip from sd and then flash the rooted gingerbread update like i would any other rom? Then after i flash that, just flash the radio the exact same way as i flashed the update? do i need to do a full wipe or just the delvik and regular cache? And also the kernal, do i need to flash that seperately or does that get included when i flash the .zip of the gingerbread stock rom?
I'm really confused as you can see, so if anyone could give me full step by step directions for finding, downloading and fully installing from start to finish everything that i need to download and flash and how to do it CORRECTLY i would be greatly appreciative..
Please note that i AM currently rooted and running a custom kernal, and i have previously flashed MIUI and MYN'S rom Before so i DO know how to flash things.
Thank you in advance to whoever finds the time to help me!
Basically just need pointed to all the correct Rooted downloads,
OK, the ROM, is simple. Download it, put it on your SD Card, reboot to recovery, wipe everything, and flash it, then let it reboot and you're good.
I use Amon Ra, so I'm not familiar with Clockwork, but I think the wipe process is not as complete with that recovery, so you MAY want to search for Calkukin's Wipe All.
The RADIOS, are not much different, and again I'm coming from Amon Ra, but in the Dev section, near the middle of the page ,look for the Calkukin's Thread for updated radios, wimax, PRI, etc and d/l the combo zip.
Put that on your SDCard, reboot to recovery, no need to wipe, and flash it.
I prefer to use a flashable zip file over a pc36img.zip for radios.
HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART!!!!
When it flashes, it will ask you to reboot pretty quickly, do that, and it will go to a black screen wit ha green circle/arrow and sit there for a few minutes.
Do not touch it. Do not pull the battery, do nothing.
Then it will reboot back to recovery. When you get the menu option to reboot your phone, after it formats cache, reboot, and it will take an few extra minutes to boot up, but then you're good.
Possibly clockwork mod may be slightly different, but in a nutshell, that's it.
You didn't post any links to where i can download the new ROOTED version of the OTA gingerbread update that came out on June 4th
I need a link to the ROOTED gingerbread stock ROM
and a link to the new Kernals and Radios..
and you're saying to just flash the updated rom like any other rom? full wipe then flash... and after i flash the rom, not to reboot, but to immediately flash the kernal and then the radio also ?
and after i flash the radio last, wait for it to finish and it will take me back to recovery after a few minutes, and then to reboot?

Then reboot to Recovery and flash the radios, as I described above:

what do u mean 'then reboot to system' ?
I boot into recovery, and wipe everything, then go to the 'flash zip from sd card' option, and scroll down until i find this rom's zip, then i flash it, wait a few minutes and it will take me back to recovery and leave me sittin on the option to reboot now... what do i do here? do i reboot and let the rom run ? or do i immediately go back to the flash zip from sd card and flash the radio before i reboot after flashing the rom?
and what about the kernal ? do i not need to seperately flash that also ?

after you install the rom, select the option "reboot now." after that you will need to boot back into recovery mode and flash the kernel and reboot again. then go into hboot and flash your radios. make sure the radio zip is named PC36IMG so that your phone will auto detect the file and install it.

Okay so i do a full wipe, then flash the rom .. once the rom finishes the flash, i reboot and let the phone fully boot up into the rom (so that the phone is on and functional) after the phone is fully booted up and running normally i turn the phone back off and reboot into recovery.. I then flash the radio and wait a few minutes for it to finish and reboot again.. correct? did i miss anything here? because i'm going to follow what i just said verbatim, so if anythere there is wrong or missing a step please let me know..
Do i need to flash a kernal at any point? or just the rom and radio?
The rom has the kernel with it after you reboot after you flashed tge rom just flash the combo and you should be good to go. If you want to flash a new kernel make sure you have a compatible gingerbread one.

You are correct on everything you posted.
Just remember the radios part is crucial you do not pull the battery.
When you flash it, it will tell you to use the menu to reboot. So reboot, and it will go to a black screen wit ha green circle with an arrow in it. This will sit there for a few minutes. Don't worry about how long, because this is the critical point. Just let it sit, then it will reboot and go back to recovery.
It will say formatting cache...
When the menu pops up that you can use to reboot the phone, do that. Reboot to system and it will take a little longer than normal to boot up, because your caches were formatted.
IF something goes wrong, and it won't but just in case, don't do anything before coming here and reporting what is happening.
I'm not trying to sound overly dramatic, but this is where people make mistakes.
I've flashed radios several times no problem, as have many of us.
Remember patience is key!
that's correct. your decision on the kernel and radio.

bump, before i flash this can someone verify this for me?
Here is my understanding in steps
1.) Boot into recovery and do a FULL wipe
2.) Select option to flash zip from sd card
3.) flash the gingerbread-update-rom.zip
4.) After flash finishes reboot and fully run the rom
5.) reboot into recovery again
6.) select option to flash zip from sd card
7.) flash the radio.zip
8.)it takes a few minutes and takes u to a weird screen but just dont touch it and it will finish
9.) reboot
10.) Enjoy a ROOTED gingerbread stock rom ?
and I DO NOT need to flash a kernal at any point correct? it's just included in the ROM?

wow im really impressed theres no flaming here haha.. yeah that about it.. on a side note you really should make a backup before you do this....
You said "Wow i'm really suprised theres no flaming here"
Yet i dont understand why there would be flaming?
Why would someone talk **** and flame me because i'm trying to learn and be 100% completely sure of what i'm doing before i attempt to flash something to my very very expensive phone?
At least i'm taking steps to go above and beyond rather than just half-reading something and thinking i'm smarter than everyone else and bricking my phone for good.
If someone is seriously trying to learn and feel safe and secure in what they're doing why would someone flame them?
Just my opinion... The only time someone should be flamed is when they are given links to pages where they can find their answers and they just want someone to flat out walk them through it and hold their hand rather than search and find the answers themselves...
There's no flaming here because he wasn't asking the typical overly repeated questions.
And when it comes to flashing a new radio, knowing that bad things can happen, it's important that a first timer know everything involved. The steps, the issues that can occur, etc.

Are these the properly named files to use?
For gingerbread-update-rom.zip I would use: supersonic_4.22.651.2_deodexed_060511-signed-.zip
For radio.zip I would use EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_2.15_003

Hello everybody.
I have spent a better part of the day trying to figure out how to install a nice custom ICS rom on my Xperia Arc. I have read the newbie threads, I have downloaded a bunch of ROMS, kernels, wifi modules, basebands, custom recoveries, etc, etc, etc... but I'm tottaly lost in all of this, I'm losing my nerves, and I'm very close to trashing my arc and my PC with a sledgehammer...
So far I've managed to succesfully unlock my bootloader. I backed up my data before unlocking as well. I have this .62 gingerbread which as far as I figured out is a pain in the ass to root. I've tried going to .42 to use zergrush but fastboot says there's no space for it, I don't get it... I've also tried custom recovery but I can't get that to work also... tried pre-rooted also but no go... I pretty much go in circles in the last few hours and I'm going insane! I'm not even sure I need to root the phone to get that ICS rom...
Can somebody of you guys, and most of you probably have this stuff in your little finger, just write me a few noob-friendly pointers on how to install let's say TeamXperia V3 (looks shiny ) on this arc of mine, so I can finally sleep today, THANKS A BUNCH!
For the kernel are you using fastboot or flashtool? Try using flashtool(ensure it's the latest version)to flash any stock ICS rom then boot into that. Then download your chosen custom rom to the sd card, use fastboot to boot a custom kernel(ArkNight or doomkernelICS), enter recovery by spamming the back buttons when booting, wipe userdata/cache, flash the rom zip. Plus, have you downloaded all the sdk's etc. for fastboot/adb?
- Flash the kernel..it contains CWM recovery
- Now copy the ROM zip into sd card and flash it
- Thats all you are done!
no need to root or do something..all roms are pre-rooted..you will save some time..
Thanks alot guys, I finally got it working...
Hi guys,
I just picked up the One X international version and am loving every moment. So far, I've unlocked the bootloader from htcdev.com, installed the Clockwork mod recovery, made a backup, and installed SuperSU (in that order).
While waiting for the next version of ARHD to be released, I've got a few questions hopefully someone can help to answer
1) The directions say to manually flash the corresponding boot.img manually before flashing the ROM. Does this mean I do the reboot into fastboot and use the command prompt to type "fastboot boot boot.img"?
2) In the future when there are new versions of ARHD released, or I want to try a different ROM, do I just flash the new ROM over the existing one and that's it? Will all my settings and contacts still be intact on the phone or will it be erased? If it will be erased is there any way to back up just those info so I can restore on the updated ROM?
3) If/when I decide to sell the phone, is there a step by step guide somewhere I can follow to restore the phone back to factory conditions? I assume the backup I made of the phone after I installed Clockwork mod recovery will still be unlocked and have Clockwork installed?
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions Can't wait to get started with the ROMs!

Yup that sounds about right to me.

If coming from ARHD I think you can just flash the new ROM directly onto the phone and you wont or shouldn't loose any data.
In the 'How to Flash' section of the ARHD Thread it reads:
Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM) So basically, the Superwipe script wipes the whole phone, you do this when first flashing a ROM onto your phone, when flashing a newer version onto the phone it isn't necessary to perform a Superwipe.
3) If/when I decide to sell the phone, is there a step by step guide somewhere I can follow to restore the phone back to factory conditions? I assume the backup I made of the phone after I installed Clockwork mod recovery will still be unlocked and have Clockwork installed?
There are guides somewhere, I'll look for them and PM you a link if I can find it, however a lot of people sell their phones rooted and with custom roms on nowadays. Only re-locking them if they're trying to gain back some warranty.

Well with venom Rom for hox u can update it is actually the only rom that has over the air updates directly by the people that made the rom also most customizable Rom too.

It's safe to update any Apps and things through the Play Store yeah, On a lot of ROMs the OTA Updater is disabled, you'll have to flash the latest RUU onto the phone to get the Update.
E.G We had an ARHD ROM that was running off the 1.29.401.11 update, now we've got a version of ARHD that's running off 2.05.401.2 instead as Mike had updated the ROM to include the latest updates, so everytime there is a new update, the ROMs get updated by the Devs and we can reflash on said ROM.

You may safly update anything from Market (Play). You may backup your phonebook in Google account and through settings in phone book (Export to SD or somthing like this). SMS you may backup also to SD card or to email (there is an option in it). Or try ROMcleaner 2.1 it will backup some settings also and user apps.
And when Mike (ARHD developer) release new ROM, if it is based on NEW official update (RUU) with new sw version it is highly recomended to do a full wipe(Super Wipe script is in his thread). It will erase every app and configuration, except you SD card files.
The correct command is fastboot flash boot boot.img, not fastboot boot boot.img

Please, i know this is nooby and you guys hate these questions, but i have searched, and maybe i typed the wrong thing but i couldn't find anything. Basically i just want to know how to flash another custom rom and kernel on my device. i tried yesterday with a kernel and just got the infinite reset loop again, somehow i fixed it by gettinginto fastboot and reflashing the old kernel but i dont want that happening again. with the roms i heard you can just download the zip to the sd storage and install it via CWM but again, i dont want to take any risks, i did pay $600 for this phone after all. thanks in advance, and sorry for the n00bish questions, i just want to be on the safe side.
also while im here so i dont have to make another topic, i have ARHD 9 installed atm, and it was fine when i first installed it but now the softkeys are always lit up, i cant find an option to turn it off in the Suite tools that came installed with it either.
all custom kernels comes with modules. They are in the zip file.
First you need to flash the kernel through fastboot.
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then go to recovery and flash the zip modules.
Reboot your phone and it should boot up fine.
Don't worry you are not going to brick your phone. Before flashing anything always charge your phone to full.
Flashing rom is simple again. copy the zip in sd card.
copy the boot.img of the rom and put it in fastboot folder.
reboot to bootloader.
again fastboot erase cahce
fastboot flash boot boot.img
reboot to recovery.
wipe data/cache, cache and davik.
install the zip through recovery
Reboot and done
while installing custom kernels you need to flash kernel modules through recovery always.
and read the thread properly what kernels supports what roms.
some roms need repacking, that would be too much to learn at once..
jst do the process step by step and you will be fine.
thanks for the help man, much appreciated
try viperx...it has all the steps there as well

If it is mentioned in the thread of the specific rom that repacking a kernel is requried before flashing please tell me if I have got the whole order of things to do wrong, I would really appreciate it.
The specific rom has recommended kernels for trouble free running.
I definitely feel that I have confused myself along the way.
- repack kernel with "Automated Kernel Repack Beta" and download boot-repacked.img to computer
- copy boot-repacked.img to fastboot folder
- fastboot flash boot boot-repacked.img
- fastboot erase cache
- reboot into recovery
- wipe factory data > wipe cache partition > wipe Dalvik cache
- flash kernel.zip for the modules?
- flash rom.zip?
- flash additional gapps.zip (rom specific)
- reboot?
Does this look right to you?
Sorry if this is a troublesome question.
Thank you!
Looks good to me. One thing. Boot your new rom once first before installing Gapps.

Thank you! I will give it go and will thank you again if all of it works out. Is it possible for the old Gapps to conflict with the new ones I will be flashing. Or will the Factory wipe sort that out.
Also another hypothetical case;
Say the Rom Dev have repacked the recommended kernels, can a problem arise by repacking a kernel with the Rom.zip again? Will the subsequent boot-repacked.img have an issue? And if the modules of the kernel are flashed over modules that the Rom.zip might have, will the modules be overwritten without problems?
Thank you and apologies for the convoluted question!

Gapps, there wont be conflicts.
If you already find them repacked by rom dev, it means that they were tested.so are safer to use. So use them.
As for modules, usually yes. Unless they are on different bases such as 2.6.39 and 3.x.x.x. just do a nandroid backup first, and then try. Enough hypothetical.
