Desire Virgin - Desire General

hello all had my desire for a good few months now, totally clean unbranded device. Now after quietly perusing these forums for a while i feel the next best thing i could do is flash it with a custom rom, i am drawn towards leedroid 2.3c, however i would like some advice first from the experts....All You.
is leeddroid a good stable rom with all the feature that i currently have on a stock desire?
what is the simplest way to flash?
do i have to do anything prior to a flash? ie backup anything, or make a backup of my stock system? if so how? i have xp in iphones and nothing needed to be done there just plug in and flash?
i need a simple guide
many thanks

Before you do anything, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and make a note of the 'Software version' number and post it up on here. We'll go from there...

android version 2.2
baseband version 32.49.00.32u_5.11.05.27
software number 2.29.405.5

Right, awesome. You're totally unbranded so that's a good thing!!
First thing, download the RUU for that ROM so you can go back to stock should you need to. Get it from:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
If that link fails to download then get it from:
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&so...Y-6AY_5A3EXnBSZIg&sig2=ToMSUjUY0tdbmxGYNI13-w
Or
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&so...cZlrId8Dkc9IAPJsg&sig2=upnnZhtKGWqyen3hhAeVvA
After that you can look at rooting the phone. I just re-rooted my phone on 2.29.405.5 using unrEVOked 3.31 and it work fine. You can get it here:
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Once rooted, go look at the different ROMs available and take you're pick!!

There you go about rooting the phone from EddyOS.
Leedroid is a newbie friendly rom, it is stable, fast (faster than the original), has relatively better battery life than the original and everything is working, not to mention, it is also a Sense rom, just like your original rom.
So, yes! Leedroid is a good pick to start.
Note:
---- IMPORTANT----
1. The first thing you might want to do directly right after rooting is to create a nanddroid bckup and copy the bckup into your pc directly after creating it.. Do it before flashing, formatting, creating partition, or anything else.
---------END----------------
2. You might also need a card reader and a software such as partition wizard, gparted, or similar to create an EXT partition in your SD Card since most of the custom roms will need it. Create the EXT partition before flashing.

brilliant thanks for the links and tips, is there any particulat software i need to perform this "create a nanddroid bckup"

Once rooted the custom recovery has the nandroid function in it
Have a read of this, should help explain things:
http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/221212-faq-rooting.html

Hey eddyos many thanks for taking the time to answer.
now i take it i do not need to make a gold card as my phone is unbranded, so my steps to take are :-
a. root...using unrevoked
b. nandroid backup...using clockworkmod recovery supplied with unrevoked
c. flash whatever rom i choose.
now once i have done step b. do i store this backup on my pc? if so whats it gonna be called and where will it be on the desire
in order to flash a rom, where do i put the rom i download to flash to the htc? on the memoery card?
once i have done c i am no longer able to get stock updates.
once i have done c do i need to set up anything so my phone can make calls or access the internet etc, or does it behave like a new phone out the box and you whack in the info it asks for ie google account stuff.
once again many thanks

The Nandroid is stored on your SD card. You can make a backup of this on your PC should you wish.
Once rooted you can no longer get OTA updates so you'd need to update your ROM as (and if) the dev does so
You download the ROM file and stick it anywhere on the SD card as you can browse for the ZIP in recovery.
The phone should go through a setup and automatically set the APN but if not you can manually add it using the operator details on their website

cool many thanks m8 for your time, now its just down to me to select a rom.
m last bit of info i need for now is looking in the android development bit there are various roms etc, some say rom, froyo sense, aosp kernal etc. been a novice/virgin i have no idea what these titles mean, i assume i should just stick to anything that has rom next to it?
is anyone able to reccomend a beginers rom that i can try out
? whats this all about?
create an EXT partition in your SD Card since most of the custom roms will need it. Create the EXT partition before flashing.
how big should the partition be? 512mb

As it has been said before Leedroid is a very good start. The latest version should be the Leedroid 2.3c.
Try that one out and play a little while before trying to flash other ROMs.
EXT partition is needed for A2SD/A2SD+ ROMs (do not play around with D2EXT/D2SD at the moment, you are not ready yet for this).
A2SD means Apps to SD, means more apps can be installed since they don't go to your very limited internal memory.
Make 2 partitions on your SD card but be sure to copy everything inside the SD card to your PC just to be sure before making arrangement for those partitions.
First create a FAT32 partition for your datas ( such as music, videos, etc.) as the first partition, set it as primary and then create a 512-2GB EXT2/3/4 (I recommend1GB EXT 2 or 3 at the moment) as the second partition, set it as primary.
Be sure to have the EXT partition after the FAT32.
Windows can only see the first partition, that is where you are going to put bck all the files you have copied from the SD card before making all of those partitions.

Interesting thread as I am considering doing the same. Main reason for me is the clash between HTC Sense and the bluetooth stack not allowing for a bluetooth keyboard. Any particular rom recommendations for this - Leedroid, Cyanogen?

FroYo = Android 2.2 (what you're currently on)
Gingerbread = Android 2.3
AOSP = Android Open Source Project )ROM built from the source code and now ported from another device)
As for EXT, I have a 1GB (1024MB) one and it serves me well

i am using leedroid for sometime now 512 MB EXT3-4 partition is more than enough i have 110 apps installed and still have 351MB free

once again many thanks for the replies.
what is the simplest prog to use to create the partitions? scrap that just used minitool partition magic i have an old 1gig card am gonna try will that be ok?
i have a fat32 partition size 533mb set as primary and a 362mb ext3 partition does it matter if the fat32 primary partition has a name?
looking at leedroid i think i need to install 2.3b before i can install the latest 2.3c

You can either do it in the recovery (I use Amon RA as mine but I think CWM does it too now). Otherwise you're better off downloading a GParted Live CD, boot your PC from that and then partition the card

When you're rooting Desire, have a look at good ol' turkeh's guide. Not only you have an excellent root tutorial, but you also learn how to properly flash ROMs, how to create and restore a system backup, how to backup apps, how to create ext partitions to enable app2sd and how to unroot the phone in case you need your warranty back.
Note: when performing the s-ff process (for data2sd), read carefully what it says and be aware that it can brick your phone if not done properly.

Turkey's guide is OK but is out of date somewhat, could do with updating to include the newer versions on unrEVOked

2 CyanogenMod questions

I got 2 questions for CM6, I'll be getting my Desire back by Thursday hopefully :
1) CM6 by default doesn't have any of the Google's applications, including the Market App. I know it has a separate package, but it has too many Google's applications. The only ones I want from it are the Market, and the necessary ones required for operation(Google's accounts for authentication, setup wizard etc). Rest I want to download from Market(I see that most are available from it). So can I just delete the apps from the system folder in the package? If so, what are the must ones that must be kept?
2) Is the SD card required to be partitioned in 3 partitions(Fat32 + Ext2/3/4 + Linux Swap) when using CM6?
1. you can open gapps.zip and remove all the apps you don't need in /system...don't know which are "must have"
than you zip it back and flash it ,you can sign it but you don't have to...you can flash unsigned gapps.zip using clockwork recovery
2.no CM doesn't use apps2sd(ext) they use native froyo a2sd
hope this helps
I got another Q, can a Goldcard be used as a normal SD Card? I mean I plan on making one as soon as I get my Desire but I'll preserve it for future needs, I SLCD bricked my last one and realised the importance of having one. So would that be a good idea?
Thanks for your reply, it helps . Also, what are the kind of partitions I need to create for the SD card to be usable in the phone as well as Amon Ra's or ClockworkMod's Recovery? I created a FAT32 one using Windows and GParted(2 different times) but Clockwork's recovery or fastboot couldn't recognize them.
Yes the goldcard can be used as a regular sd-card
And for partitioning you only need a fat32 one as long as you don't run any old a2sd. Using windows should work fine, but you could try partitioning it again with amonra or something similar. And are you sure, you haven't got something wrong. The recovery is usually easily able to read fat32 easily, and how do you see, recovery and fastboot doesn't recognize it?

[Q] Rooting successful - Now what?

So... After much hesitation (purely because of worry), I finally rooted my Desire. And yes, it went without a hitch.
I do have that app which says "Superuser Permissions".
Running ClockWork mod recovery/rom 2.5.0.7 (I guess).
I have downloaded the major recommended apps for rooted devices, viz. - Root Explorer, Titanium Backup and ROM Manager.
I'd like to know what else can be done now...
My phone's memory is down to 20-ish odd Megs. Thanks to updating Adobe, Facebook, GMail, Maps, QuickOffice and installing Swype.
Is there a way to increase the memory now?
I am running FroYo 2.10.405.2 and Radio 5.09.05.30_2.
Thanks in advance...
You could try a custom rom with apps2sd for starters
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Ah ok... Will read-up before going for one.
One more thing, please.
Unrevoked worked without a hitch. And there is no visible difference, either. No change at the HBOOT screen.
Which prompts me to ask: shouldn't it change from S-ON to S-OFF? Or am I getting confused with something else?
PS: apps2sd? I have a software called App 2 SD. Any difference between the two?
Unrevoked dosent unlock your bootloader, if you want to do that just search development for "alpharev" ..... apps2sd+ and the native froyo move to sd are diffrent, the biggest advantage being apps2sd+ also moves the dalvik cache (mine is over 50mb)
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Root is not the same as s-off. There is a fix, which flashes a pathced hboot though, which till give you s-off. It is easy, and i prefer to have it, as et makes recovering the phone so much easier, if something happens
For a2sd there is 2 major types. The one implemented in froyo by default, which you already make use of. The app you have allows you to mave pretty much any app to the sd-card. But you will still have the dalvik-cache in the phone memory. The other type of a2sd is what i have experienced to give me plenty of space is usually implemented in most custom roms, and is activated by making an ext-partition on your sd-card(can be done through rom manager).
I prefer the last one by far, and if i should recommend a rom for you, it should be AuraxtSense, which have some great UI changes, which makes the phone look great in my opinion. If you want std. htc sense rom and look, leedroid is a decent rom, and if you want to play around with a rom without sense like the nexus one, you should try cyanogen mod or opendesire
Thanks, friends. Slowly finding my way about these tricks.
Dunno if it is a coincidence - I've never experienced "crash" issues but earlier today, the HTC launcher crashed and I had to live w/o the home screens for a few minutes.
Any idea why this might have happened?
As regards A2SD+
I found this bit by Googling...
1) Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition.
2) Backup the contents of your SD card somewhere.
3) Connect the SD card to your PC. Make sure it shows up as a drive in My Computer.
4) Load up the Partition Wizard applicatiion.
5) Select your memory card in Partition Wizard (usually at the bottom, look for the drive letter to make sure you don't delete a hard disk). It should have a partition already, probably FAT32 formatted. You need to right click on every partition within your memory card and click Delete.
6) It won't delete right away, these tasks will be added to the panel on the left. Click Apply to make it happen. This will obviously delete everything!
7) You should now have a single chunk of unallocated memory which is the entire storage capacity of the card. Right click on this and choose 'Create'.
8) In the options set 'Create As' to 'Primary' and the file system to FAT32. Leave Cluster Size as default and ignore the drive letter.
9) Now drag the bar below from the right to set the unallocated space after this partitiion. The large FAT32 partition is where your music, videos, pictures and other files will be stored so this needs to be the largest. Make sure you have plenty of room for everything you need. The space after it is where apps will live. Around 512MB should be sufficient though if you're going to be downloading lots of games and other large programs then make it a bit bigger. Click Ok to finish.
10) Now right click and 'Create' on the remaining unallocated space, ignoring the warning message that pops up. Set to Primary again, but this time in File System select 'Ext3' (you can also use Ext2, Google it if you're interested in the differences and want to read lots of debate about which is better). Don't change the size of the partition. Click Ok.
11) Now click Apply and let it do its stuff. Once finished you should have one FAT32 partition and one Ext3. Note that the Ext3 will not be visible through Windows normally so you can't browse the files, but you can delete it and format the entire card back to FAT32 via Partition Wizard.
Important: since all your apps will be stored on the SD card instead of the phone, switching the phone on without the card inside will cause problems, you may not even be able to boot properly. And if you change cards you'll need to make sure you copy the contents of the Ext3 partition to the new card.

I guess ext2/3 terms are Linux-related terms which I am not familiar with... Do I go ahead with this way of enabling A2SD+?
(I suppose folks who rooted without using Unrevoked have another way to enable A2SD+)
Thanks!
Ext2/3 is a linux partition type. Android can use this, because it is of course based of linux. The best thing you can do is backup your sd card and boot into the clockwordmod recovery. From there you can partition your sd card for a2sd+.
I have a 4gb sd card with a 512 mb ext3 partition for my apps.
Hope it helps!
Oh great... Thanks!
So... Does this method actually "fool" the device in to believing that the internal memory is 140ish + what we assign from the memory card?

Yep, but you'll still see it displayed separately. Most of the app's will go to ext partition, only data will stay on internal space. I recommend Quick System Info app for checking space (and bunch of other stuff).
Thanks!

I have a quick question related to all this. I just rooted my desire with unrevoked 3.21 and a recovery image has been installed and it is version 2.5.0.7 of clockworkmod, I guess the latest.
Then I read other posts where people suggest to use rom manager and one of the options is "install clockworkmod" ... but if I have already installed it why should I need it again? Do ROM manager and unrevoked install in different places may be different versions of clockworkmod? then which is the one that will be used booting in recovery? Does this mean that the recovery image installed by unrevoked could be deleted somehow..? There are a lot of controversial explanations in the forums and I really dont have any idea which one to believe. Any expert could explain in easy terms? Thanks

[Q] Going to flash very soon, just wanted to get a few quick answers!

Hi all... I'm ready to flash/root a new ROM, want to get rid of my operators bits and bobs. Have been reading round here and I 'think' I know what I'm doing, but please could someone answer my questions below.
I will start of by saying I will hope to play with a few ROMs but might start with a root HTC Sense 2.2 (currently on 2.1).
Software and Phone details:
Model: HTC Desire A8181
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband: 32.42.00.32U_4.09.00.08
Kernel: 2.6.29.54b7033a
Operator: Orange UK.
HBOOT: 0.83.0001
MICROP-031d
RADIO: 4.09.00.08
I will backup by bits with MyBackup Pro (have already used a few times to hard reset, and move to a new phone), and also AppBrain for the apps. All seem to work nicely.
Here are my questions:
1. Do I need a gold card? I am on Orange UK with their 2.1 ROM?
1a. If yes, should I get a card specifically this purpose, or sharing my current one OK?
2. I plan to use Unrevoked (latest version), so hope this doesn't need a gold card.
3. Other than running Apps2SD, what else does partitioning for ext3 do? (I will do this as I plan to use apps2SD!)
3a. Would 1GB ext3 for App2SD/7GB (FAT32) for the main data storage be OK?
3b. Does just copying the SD Card information in windows, and then back to the FAT32 partition surfice for backing up app data (Angry bird saved games, etc, etc)?
4. I know I need the latest radio, etc for the 2.2 Froyo, and this comes with the standard rooted sense ROM, so will probably use that.
5. Does NANDROID just backup the ROM and the NAND information? Can I store the current orange ROM and put it back later? I've never seen an orange ROM available, although a 2.2 update has recently been released.
I guess my main question revolve around the use of the Gold Card, and the NANDROID questions. Please let me know, so I can join this fun world of ROMs for this great device!
Martin
PS. I know these questions are asked around a lot, and there is a lot of information. But have been reading for quite a while now, and a couple are still a little confusing for me!
I'll try some of your questions.

I am on orange too and i did NOT use a gold card. i rooted using unrevoked and installed clockworkmod recovery. if i was you i would install amonRA recovery at this stage because apparently it is easier to use that recovery when trying to set up app2sd. I too am trying to get apps to sd and am struggling to put amonra on the phone - do not wish to take away from this thread but if anyone knows whether i can do the partitions in linux without needing amonra that would really help. but anyway, i digress - my point shoud answer question 2 as well.
1a. If yes, should I get a card specifically this purpose, or sharing my current one OK? Apparently you can have a goldcard shared with ur everyday card.
2. I plan to use Unrevoked (latest version), so hope this doesn't need a gold card.
3. Other than running Apps2SD, what else does partitioning for ext3 do? (I will do this as I plan to use apps2SD!) not sure - someone more knowledgable will need to chime in.
3a. Would 1GB ext3 for App2SD/7GB (FAT32) for the main data storage be OK? sounds about right. i only have a 4gb so was planning on doing a 512/3.5g split (when i figure out how)
3b. Does just copying the SD Card information in windows, and then back to the FAT32 partition surfice for backing up app data (Angry bird saved games, etc, etc)? not sure - use mybackupro i guess to be safe

You do not need a goldcard, to root with unrevoked. The ext partition is just for apps2sd. You can back up the fat partition of your sd card, by just copying the files with windows, but must use somthing like a linux live cd to back up the ext, a nandroid copies all parts of your rom, (system, boot, ext, data, android secure, ext) and can restore it exactly like it was when you made the backup
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Thanks for these pointers guys. Not sure on the AmonRU thing you bring up though church. apps2sd seems like it should just work on boot up.Will use ext3 (as 4 not supported yet, and FAT32 to the windows one obviously )
3b. Does just copying the SD Card information in windows, and then back to the FAT32 partition surfice for backing up app data (Angry bird saved games, etc, etc)? not sure - use mybackupro i guess to be safe - I didn't realise that My Backup Pro backed up your data on your storage card? Just calls, contacts, etc, etc?
I have a linux box lying round here, plus Ubuntu on VMWare, so partitioning with gparted will be fine for me.
I will probably do the flashing, etc with windows as want the SDK on there, and I dont have monitors on my linux box, and don't fancy flashing via VMWare
AndroHero: If Nandroid makes this backup from the the ROM as it stands I guess that includes the root, so can't really revert exactly back to the Orange setup defaults.
So the process is Backup phone data with MyBackup Pro, root with a new recovery put on there (clockwork I presume if using unrevoked), NANDROID backup, and then flash the ROM and Radio to my hearts content! Oh I am excited about time too had the phone since May!
Well, AmonRu and Clockwork are pretty much the same expect for the additional partition creating funtions in AmonRu. At least thats what I gathered from what I have read.
Yes, backup using mybackuppro, root, nandroid and flash away. I did a titanium backup and a mybackup pro backup and mybackup pro seemed to do what I wanted - reinstall selected or all apps + data + all other data such as contacts and sms and mms. (prefer that to the titanium pro backup app)
Here is a question you could answer - gparted - is that a software for ubuntu? I have ubuntu set up as dual boot. If i can use that to partition the sd card then I dont have to mess around with AmonRu.
What roms are you thinking of trying?
Church, cheers for that again. Yes GParted is a linux partitioning program and probably in ubuntu: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
I will copy all my data from my card to windows (just one big FAT32 atm), partition and format the card in linux 1/7GB split I guess will do nicely! Maybe less, like more music on there! Then copy the bits I copied off back using windows again.
Fingers crossed that'll work. I won't be making a gold card then! Nice to hear another UK Orange user having done this, as heard some bad stuff about it a while back, things have moved on I guess! Always too scared and not enuf time to play, but enufs enufs, and hate the weather bug never updating on Sense!
I will prolly start with a pre-rooted standard Sense HTC one (with included radio!), and mebbe play with LeeDroid and some of the others! TH prolly won't get round to it!
Any settings issues with Orange BTW? APN, etc, etc? I wanna remove all the orange rubbish from my phone ASAP!
Thanks for the gparted information. Will look when im home. I felt the same as u. Frustrated and one day just rooted and changed rom. I only started flashing roms. On Sunday. I struggled with defrost and used open desire for a bit...wanted to try senseless. I'm using miui now...fantastic rom...very different! I did use a app caalled apn backup and restore so might be worth doing that.

Application Space

I have the HTC Desire on Telus.
I have Apps2SD installed, as well as Android 2.2. Currently I am unrooted but was rooted before and the same issue.
I can move some applications to the SD card, but not all of them. Also its only part of the application. I am still running out of space all the time.
Am I missing something, how do you install and run an application from the SD card?
Root. Youre using stock a2sd which doesnt fully move the app to the sd so it still uses storage space. Root and a2sd+ is what youre after
Sent from my HTC Desire
As I said in my post, I was Rooted before, still didn't install the full application and cache and everything to sd.
Well if you rooted but didn't partition your SD card for A2SD+, then you did nothing extra.
Root > partition SD card > reinstall ROM
Link to the instructions on how to do it exactly, make sure I do it correct this time around.
Thanks.
So I did that, you can only partition the SD card as 512MB, which is clearly the same as internal memory. Also, the applications still only move some of itself over to the sd card.......
I can't use Gparted for reasons, is there another program that does the same that works with windows?
Anyone....really......come on....
MiniTool Partition Wizard (google it) works under Windows and can create ext3 partition SD Cards. It's the only one i found that actually works, and it's free.
As an alternative, you can instal ROM Manager on your phone and use it to create ext3 partition, although it's limited to 512MB.
Thanks for that application.
So I formatted my SDcard, reinstalled the rom and I still have only 114MB free, and 2GB missing from my SDCard now...WTF
Yeah, but data will be stored on ext3 partition so you will be able to install more apps. I now have 200mb of apps, and still have 40% free in internal memory.
The new Adobe Flash update increases the already ludicrous amount of space this app takes up on your phone. Was 10.96MB, now 11.29MB.
No Froyo move to SD.
Can someone please give me instructions from start to finish on how to do this because clearly I'm doing it wrong, I have 114MB internal free with fresh install.
Just install applications, you'll see they now take way less space in phone memory. You won't see that partition as available space.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Would still be nice to have instructions for next time.
And so your telling me there is no point to making a 2GB extra partition, since you can't move the apps fully over, that's what I thought, and this was a waste of time.
Instructions can be found all over the xda forums...seriously its not that hard to find..u need a rooted phone, a ROM that supports A2SD and an ext2 or ext3 partition on ur sd-card.

Yea, these forums are bloated with topics and new posts every 5 seconds, its hard to find anything. And I found a tutorial or 2, obviously I did it wrong.
So a direct link, or a new step by step would be great. Everyone is acting like its easy, so shouldnt be hard to write a quick step by step or give a link..lol

Okay....what ROM are you using? Stock 2.2 only supports Google's way of moving Apps (i.e. moving some of it and leaving the rest behind). Even with rooting, the stock ROM WILL NOT move everything to SD. So you need a new ROM which will support the A2SD feature.....so selecting a new ROM (even a modified version of the stock one) would be your first step. Make sure this ROM has support for A2SD or A2SD+....
Edit: If you do decide to make the "full" switch, it is recommended to S-OFF if possible.... I am fairly confident that you are following the right steps but the ROM isn't supporting it.
I am currently running your ROM, the Oxygen v2.0-RC6 Gingerbread ROM. And i dont know what S-OFF is. I am assuming a way to power off.

Have you also got a custom recovery? like ClockworkMod (can be found on the Market) or AmonRa (i don't use this).... you will need one of them if you want to enable A2SD with Oxygen ROM. This is because the oxygen ROM, by default, writes app data into the internal memory rather than into any external partitions.
Basically once you create your ext3, you have to boot into the custom recovery and flash this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2263716/dalv...2SD-signed.zip
and reboot..and that should do the trick.
That's the general summary of the steps. Read the link for more details on partitioning:
Link on SD card partitioning: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910290
EDIT: Put simply, S-OFF (security off) allows you to install custom HBOOT image (such as the one I have..) which give you more space in you internal memory. Alpharev Oxygen HBOOT for example (HBOOT is the bootloader) gives around 337MB as internal space for your apps....which kinda makes EXT3 partitions unnecessary...
You have to be a bit careful with S-OFFing as newer Desire models have new security feature which makes it unsuitable to flash a new HBOOT. Read more about this here:

Noob stuck after root! Help please!

Hey guys! Im totaly new to this and am not really sure that ive postet this in the right forum section, but i'll give it a go anyways!
I've rooted my Desire, and the tutorial i followed did ofcourse not mention that i really should grab a backup of the default rom, so i didnt back up.
I installed CyanogenMod, but i didnt like it (due to the fact that it doesnt have the sense widgets) so i tried to find a Sense Gingerbread rom to use, so i installed this:
RCMix S v2.0
That one worked rather horribly, or i can go so far tosay that it didnt work at all. My phone stucks all the time, and ive havent gotten past the htc setup yet.
So basicly what i need is someone to point me in the right direction, i need a good ROM that is like the original HTC Sense for Desire, but with gingerbread.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Nymo.
If you want a ROM with SENSE, LeeDroid, of course !

Thanks, now i at least know which rom to use!
So ive red a little, and ive seen that something with radio and memorycard partitioning. What is this? Is there an tutorial for LeeDroid that goes through all the steps from a rooted phone?

RADIO
Is a software part of firmware (rom), this manage the phone network (3G/2G) for calls and internet connections. Each radio has features that make the consumer less appropriate according to the telephone operator (orange / vodafone / wind / plus), which uses a different frequency, if a particular radio set is better for some frequencies, for example -75 dBm and 19asu (drawer -> setting -> battery -> network) with certain radio I have a better battery performance compared to other operating frequencies higher. If you have «branded phones», you have at default better radio that «not branded phones» becouse ruu of «branded phone» have different radio of «stock ruu» for wwe.

Partitioning memorycard means partition your sd card. You can do this from recovery.
And next time use the search. Nearly all questions like these are already answered.
I was stuck at an airport for like 6 hours, so belive me ive searched alot.
Which one do i use, the LeeDrOiD A2SD++ Edition or the LeeDrOiD Data++ Edition??
EDIT: I have decided to postpone my change of ROM untill i recieve my 16gb memorycard. I Only have a lousy slow 2gb card atm.
stuck on pink light
i installed startburst froyo on my htc desire. but when i restart my phone for data2sd. it stuck on pink light. i wait around an hour but nothing happened. i create 2 partition before installing. 1st fat32(3gb) and ext4(1gb) both are primary. now what to do

Both versions have their dis-/advantages. Just try.
Rom
Well there is more to root to it. If you read carefully through the forum you will find everything there but I will try to sum it up here.
First you root. That gives you a lot more permissions on your phone ( like installing custom Rom's) but that is that. Your phone still has the stock (factory) hboot meaning that the space for the system and apps is not changed. This is probably what got you into trouble. You may have installed a Rom that is not compatible with the stock partition of the phone. What you now have to do is change this partition acording to the Rom you want to install. There are two options:
1. extend your phone's internal memory to the SD card ( there are guides on the forum on how to create a EXT3 partition on your SD) and go with a A2SD type Rom ( this type of Rom installs the apps to that EXT3 partytion on the SD card ). I chose this option and I would recomend LEEDroid or Insertcoin Rom's as they both have sense and work like a charm ( I prefer InsertCoin because with LeeDroid I have some issues as I reject some calls when I take the phone out of my pocket)
2. change the internal partition of your phone and instal a custom HBoot. For this you got to be S-OFF ( clear another type of security built in by HTC, this is higher than root) and you can find guides for that here. Then you can install a CM7 Rom
But you should take the first route if you are a begginer since is not as dangerous.
If nothing works for you, find a Stock Rooted Rom and install it. This won't cancel your root but you go back to the factory status of your phone. You can install anytime another custom rom, after you find out more.
Thanks guys!
So i should wait for my new memorycard, considered i just simply cant change the memcard beacuse the apps (and part of the os?) are stored there, or can i just copypasta them onto the new card, after ive created the partition on that card too?
Also, this radio thing. Do i have to figure this out before i install a new rom?
Oh, and btw: I Have decided to go with the A2SD++ version.

Hi.
You must flash the radio before flashing the new ROM, or there will be conflicts.
How To Flash Radio:
Code:
1. Go into recovery
2. Choose install zip from sd
3. Choose zip from sd
4. Confirm
5. Reboot
OR through fastboot command, if you know how to use it:
Code:
fastboot flash radio c:\radio.img
assuming radio.img is on C:

One can only fastboot, if one is s-off.

What about this thing?
Success!
Successfully flashed to LeeDroid AP2SD++ today, couldnt wait for my new memory card lol.
I had a lot of trouble with creating the EXT3 partition, i managed to create the partition with Minitool partition manager (something like that, cant remember the name), but it got the E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 error all the time.
What i did was just install Cyanogenmod and use ROM manager to create the partition. It only created a 512mb partition (1gb is recomended for leedroid) but it works fine.
The radio flashing went really smooth, no problems there!
Thanks for the help guys, much apreaciated!
Still, i havent gotten the answer bout the new memorycard thing. When i get the new memorycard, do i have to to a new installation? Or can i just backup the ext3 partition and copy it over to the new ext3 partition on the new card?
