hi guys i'm new to the whole custom rom thing, anyway i rooted my evo using the unrevoked method. then i flashed a rom i think it was fresh something i can't remember. i played around with it for a while then i flashed cyanogenmod 6 for evo (6.1.2 supersonic). the problem that i'm having is that i cannot access the android market cause the app icon is missing and i cannot find it anywhere...did i miss something...please help. thanks.
You need to install the google apps. The simplest way would be to download rom manager and flash the CM6 rom from the app. It gives you an option to download GAPPS (google apps) at the same time you are flashing CM6
ishrdz is right, go back to the thread where you found the cm6 rom and download and flash gapps

Can anyone tell me how to use Cyanogens latest CM6 for the Evo? I have my phone rooted via unrevoked and I have rom manager. Do I just use rom manager with Cyanogens file he released? I have posted in the 135 page thread with no help so I figured this would be the best place. Also what about gapps?
I'd like to know as well. I have never put a custom Rom on a phone before and am waiting for Cyanogen's release before trying it out for the first time.
My EVO is rooted with Unrevoked 3 which uses ClockworkMod recovery. I have rom manager as well.
Any step by step instructions for us newbies would be great. I don't like bricks.
thanks
gapps is a basket of applications that the phone uses for basic google integration, including the market. you'll need it for accessing several things, including the market.
gapps = google apps
right now the only cm build is a nightly, which means it isn't perfect, and may not have all of the functionality you want.

Doesn't take much to read through the Dev. threads (most of the guides there consists of ROM flashing tutorials).
Regardless, nobody is going to answer your question if you posted in the CM6 thread since it is about the ROM...not about how to install it.
Anyways..dumbed down, drag/drop ROM into sd card root, "install rom from sd card" in rom manager, find rom, backup current rom if you want, clear/wipe cache/data, flash gapps (same way as rom).
I tried that but it gave me error 7 when I tried to do that. Then it asked me for update.zip. Gave some weird error then.

Are you fully rooted? I'm not aware if Unrevoked unlocks nandroid.
I dont know if it gives me full root. Probably not if im having that problem. How do I unlock nand?

Have fun.
Might be a easier way now, but you'll have to search if there is one.
Main Version Older! Error. Dunno what that is.
Hello and sorry for the inconvenience. I'm new to rooting and updating my evo. I have 2.2 android version since i rooted my evo and i rooted it with unrevoked 3. Now i keep getting updates from my phone but cant install them because im rooted. I was wondering how can i update my evo to the latest android version which is 2. something and how can i also update the latest fota version that's 3.70.
I don't know if i need to install a new ROM or get the update online. Your help would be grateful and thanks in advance.
You have to flash updated roms to keep your phone updated...thats the only way AFAIK
Any custom rom will get rid of the update notifications, and all are based on the newest OTA by now. I think the only 2.3 gingerbread rom is the CM7 nightly, which is very stable and very nice
Before you flash a new rom you will want to make sure you have one of the custom recoveries, RA for example is what i use for my flashing.
What Radio and software are you running?
software 2.2 and what do you mean by radio, basebad or kernel
Have you checked your phone to be sure you have S- off? There is a Rom in the developers section that has the latest OTA 3.70... but I do concur with the guys above in that you need to flash a custom Rom.
Go to the market and download Rom Manager. By using unrevoked I believe you now have clockworkmod as your custom recovery. And I'm pretty sure it would b version 2.6.0.1 which is the good one. By using Rom Manager you can flash a custom Rom directly through the app. My favorite is by far Cyanogen 6.1.2. The only downside is 4g isn't currently working. But the upsides by far outway that issue.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
thanks and as we speak im doing a nandroid back up and want to know out of
myn's and calk's
which one is the best and if both of them work with 4g and i wanted to know if i do a nandroid backup will all my apps and contacts be deleted?
Both are good ROMs but every time I go try out a new ROM, I always go back to Calk's. I like it best but that's just my personal opinion. Once you feel comfortable flashing try them all out. I would reccomend using titanium back up to back up all of your apps though so when you flas a new ROM you can easily recover all your apps.
thanks and will it erase all my contact when i flash a new rom?? cause i already did an nandroid backup. and i want to download calks. SO whats my next step here. does calk work with 4g since i have htc evo 4g. sorry because im an amateur and dont know that much about this
Yes your contacts will be erased but once you log back in with your google acct they will resync. Yes, Calk's Rom supports 4G.
Download Calk's format all (not necessary but just something I personally use) & install it to root of the SD card
http://www.mediafire.com/?ikylelx99c49133
Same with the ROM, DL it to SD card root
reboot into recovery (vol down & power)
Factory wipe
Wipe Dalvik
Install zip from SD Card
Calk's format all
EViO v1.8
After it's done installing the phone will appear to hang a the splash screen This is normal for a first boot after a flash just let it do it's thing. It will eventually come up, I promise.
Enjoy your new ROM
one more thing and sorry to bother you how can i make sure all my contacts are with my gmail account

by logging into gmail on your computer and checking "contacts". based on your questions, perhaps you should wait and research more before you dive into something that you can't get out of. you've been warned, just sayin. good luck though
First let me say that I know I'll probably get blasted for asking...but anyway. I just downloaded the Destroyer AOSP ROM. I've tried to research and find out how to load the Market..with no success. So can someone please tell me how to load google apps...specifically the market? Thanks.
I'm not familiar with this rom, but always like to lend a hand when I can...
I know some AOSP roms don't come with the google apps you are referring to. I flashed cyanogen a while back and it had a separate zip file for google apps that needed to be flashed after flashing the rom itself. I believe it was just called gapps.zip. I've been using MIUI for the past 5 weeks and have zero intention of ever flashing another rom again. (Yeah, its THAT good)
It may or may not work, (nand before you do anything!!!), but you could search the cyanogen threads for this gapps.zip that will give you the market, maps, places, etc...
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck though!

Same for this rom, he need to flash other file (gapps)
I just updated to clockworkmod 3.0.8 (because gapps dont work on 2.5) and I am still NOT getting android market and other google apps on my phone. I don't get it. What am I doing wrong?
So you downloaded the GAPPS zip file, and tried flashing that in recovery and nothing?
What version of CM7 are you running? If it's the last stable you may need to search for an older version of GAPPS, named gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip. This worked for one user in the CyanogenMod forums.
EDIT: Try going here, search for the Inc area, re-download the appropriate version.
Hi how do install a custom rom on my mytouch 3g 32B if it has the froyo 2.2.1 update. I got it rooted. I did have a custom rom on it earlier today but nothing worked on it and the market was missing from it. Now that I try to install a custom rom it always says installation aborted. I've also read and did what a lot of the guides said to do. So how do I go about install a custom rom?
Wipe your phone in recovery first, then flash a rom. but if you're flashing CyanogenMod roms, you also need to flash the appropriate gapps (aka google apps, you should be able to find them on CM's wiki) to get stuff like market.
