When I first rooted I found some instructions to speed up Nandroid backups and restores by telling it not to display the filenames while it backed up and restored. I can't find it now -- can anyone point me to how to do that?
I dont see how not displaying the filenames would speed the process up, its not actually using more clock cycles to not display it. Its just not outputing the IO to the screen but its still being dumped.
It's in the configuration menu.
Where in the configuration menu? I haven't been able to find it.

If you go into rom manager and disable the progress bar that's supposed to speed it up

That was it. Thanks for the help.

Has anyone else been having issues with icons and widgets overlaying on top of itself. Every so often when I re-start my phone my icons and widgets create duplicates. Is there some kind of fix to this?
what rom do you have? ive been having that problem since myns rc2 and it does get quite annoying
Im using myn's rls3

I have a theory about this. I think its Titanium Backup. Although, since switching from Fresh to Myn's I haven't had the problem.
It is annoying though, and it also slows the **** out of your phone.
Just reboot

I have the same issue on a fully stock unrooted rom.

Yup, I think this can be caused by not wiping the data partition. I have had it happen before running titanium.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
actually rebooting is what causes it
the only kindof solution ive found so far is to save the scene once you have it set up and switch out and back when they duplicate
and i dont think its titanium as i always wipe my data thouroughly and never restore everything, just specifically one by one
Now I would like to use my titanium backups to get back from settings, screen defaults, and all those other customisations that I have made.
If I restore "missing apps + system" , will that stuff things up, considering I've gone from ICS to JB?
thanks
Restoring system to a new base is usually a recipe for disaster.
Ok, in that case what controls icon placement on the device screen , as even after an 'app restore' I'm still having to manually fix these.

The settings for.your launcher, i.e., system settings if you're using Sense.
Titanium backup tells you which system settings it thinks are safe to restore, if I recall.
Thanks ben,
I ended up doing it manually this time , hopefully for the next Rom upgrade I will get it done automatically.

I noticed I could potentially change my icons and themes from RT, but attempting that on my DX caused bad results. Has anyone tried it with this S3 rom, or any others? GS3 SGH-T999 with Root66 4.1.1 T-Mobile rom with flashed boot animation enabler and CWM Touch 6.0.1.2 (I think)
Thanks!

For most part RT Pro works. Some Status Bar icons can be changed will others dont do anything. Ive noticed that some work like a battery icon change works visually but the percentage of the battery level was always off. I know boot animation can be used but on a CM10 based rom it does not store the boot ani in the right folder but I do believe it does store it correctly on a stock rom.
Never fails to try just do a Nandroid backup. I do it all the time.
Okay, I'll give it a go after my next backup. I got the boot animations to work after flashing an enabler I found on another post. It still does the T-Mobile chime, but that's fine.
Thanks for the feedback!

Tried RT Pro icons and it didn't do anything, other than bugger my accounts up. I just restored the backup from TouchWin to get it back. I'm curious if It's just where Samsung stored the icons, since some came up not found on system, or if Samsung has them blocked, and it requires an enabler, like the custom boot animations do. I'll have to finger walk a bit more and see if there's an enabler, or another app that can change icons. I looked into UOTKitchen, I think it was called, and It's got some neat icons I'd like to use, but I'm worried about using it to mod Root66, and totally screwing up the rom, or worse, fouling my phone up.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

Same here too....
Is it just me? After rooting and cwming my phone my system default time is always in the 1970's so it messes up the cwm back ups and things. If you have your phone on airplane mode and reboot it won't grab the time from the network so that how you can check. I only noticed it when I brought in cwm. I've tried different versions of cwm never gotten it fixed though. Oh I'm always aosp, Rom/kernel makes no difference
Can anybody confirm this? Or share any fixes?

Hey look, for a while now I have been using the script and app here.
It's called oNandroid.
- perform backups without rebooting.
- manage stored backups and the dates are correct.
- If you ever need to restore, reboot to CWM.
- It's super convenient and works perfect for me.
Problem solved...and a bag of chips!
(lots of options. Can be used with the GUI or with any script app)
Enjoy
I read something koush posted in Google+ a while back. It has to do with the way the chip set is programmed it doesn't communicate the way it's supposed to to update the date stored on the chip. I guess if you turn on airplane mode and then reboot it will default to the same date. If you pay attention every time you boot the phone it polls the server for date and time.

I figured it was something funky more or less hardware related. Are you saying there's not much hope it can be easily updated?
I can totally live with it, it's really not a big deal.
Besides sometimes it's fun to send people text messages with a 1970's date stamped on it.

For some reason I no longer have data. No matter what I try, I've restored back to stock, I've been on every ROM available to us, and still, no 3D. Forget 4G. Anyone else experience anything like this? Or have any ideas on a fix?

Check under System Settings > About phone > Phone Identity...are those values all 0's or are the filled with your number and other values?
If it is blank, your EFS got wiped.
Update profile and data and press activate your phone in settings.
