Hi all, I am posting this in the Incredible forum because I think it might be a problem with the phone. With all that aside, here is my issue. I downloaded recovery (unrevoked) and it won't open on mac. Keep getting the application has crashed error. Tried to download reflash and it will open and read my phone but everytime after my phone reboots I get a message saying failed to flash clockwork image. I tried to flash a custom image of clockword mod that I found here. Still didnt work, does this have to do with the new OTA update? I am out of ideas, if anyone has any help to offer it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, mad

Try using Clockworkmod 2.5.x. It *should* be in ROM Manager...
Not to sound like a n00b or anything but to use Rom Manager I have to be rooted, and I can't root my phone because of this issue I'm having.
Sorry,i saw flash in the op and assumed...
I'd recommend rooting in windows then going on the mac from there, if possible

okay i tried rooting my evo using unrevoked 3.2.1 method. i followed the directions and my phone goes to recovery and has super user permissions but i cant do anything. i tried flashing ra evo recovery and it said not found. i tried installing a rom and nothing happened, i also tried to reboot my phone in terminal and it said permission denied. i am familiar with rooting because i rooted my G1 but this seems way different i get the su pop ups for root apps and some find my root permissions while others dont... please help
I would just re-download ra recovery. Sounds like you had a bad download.

Hello Folks,
I recently purchased ROM Manager Premium and am unable to use it as anytime I try to flash ClockworkMod Recovery it says "An error occurred while downloading your recovery."
Now, I'm still a beginner when it comes to this sort of thing; Could it be because I already have this flashed from when I oden'd my phone to DK18/EB13? If so, are there any tips to get this functioning as I'd like to use it's features.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Last I've read in this forum, ROM Manager is not compatible with the Epic. Someone please correct me if I am incorrect.
Ugh. If that's the case I'll just have to use it on my gf's EVO to get my money's worth. I would find that disappointing since it is one of the options it allows you to select during the "Confirm Phone Model" dialog.
Hey I could be wrong, since I've never used the application. However, I believe I've seen theimpaler747, our local moderator, post that it doesn't work with the Epic. You can try using the advanced search feature on the forums to search for ROM Manager. There have been a few posts/threads about it in the past.
You are correct, Rom manager does not work correctly with the epic.

Yep sorry it doesn't flash cwm like it does for other phones. Have to run the one click root with cwm.

umm
I own an Epic and have used CWM to flash a few different ROMs, so I know they do have at least some compatability. I am currently in a "bricked" state, however- so take that as you will. I do not think CWM had anything to do with it though.
Rom Manager did work when I was on DI18 and successfully installed CWM. Now it sometimes works and I usually use it to just easily rename my backups I made with CWM in 3 fingered salute.
Lately I have seen that it will DL a couple of versions of CWM, but they won't work properly. The main reason I bought it was to send the developer of CWM some slush funds.
Ok so after a few unsucesfull attempts to root with one click. I tried the gingerbreak no pc method. Root went fine it seemed and I have super user and root access. Ok so I installed rom manager and tried to flash clockwork 2.5.1.0 so I go to rom manager, choose flash rom, go to clockmod 2.5.1.0.zip hit ok and all that eventually it reboots into clockwork. But the only options are: reboot, flash update.zip, factory reset, and clear partition. So I chose the update zip one. It failed said it couldn't find updaten.zip so I tried that a few times no luck reboted and tried again..no luck so I went through 3 b utton push thing on a reset and clockwork doesn't open. I have to go through rom manager and when I do those are the only 3 options. Also when in clockwork. The camera button is not the ok/enter button as it should be I have to hit the home key for ok. So I tried to flash the fix for 5the home screen. Same issues. Where di I go wrong? How do I get going again? The phone works fine, wifi teather is working now. Just can't seem to get clockwork working or flash anything

Okay, a few things first:
1. Narrow down your problem, your description is far from clear and concise
2. If you're having problems with ClockWorkMod, search their threads for your answers, or post your question there
3. Why are you using Gingerbreak? That's for, Gingerbread. You shouldn't be messing with a leaked and buggy Rom if you don't know what you're doing.
My suggestion is to go to the Clockworkmod thread. Check out version 3 in my signature. All your problems are likely answered there. But I can't answer them for you, regardless, because you neglected to mention why you resorted to this frazzled method. If you want to pursue this method, you'll have to go back to the forum you got it from for your answers, but I recommend starting over.
GOOGLE any question you have with "XDA" in the search bar and I promise that your question has already been answered.
Well I tried to do one click 4 times and could never root. I fund this gingerbreak method in the samsung epic 4g dev area. I ran it and I have root. I had no other idea what to do at the time to gain root. I have rea through the clockwork area but none of the help answerd seemed to have the same issues as me. Sorry. Ill keep reading. I been tryin. At thi since Friday afternoon n just getting frutrated

The reason the One Click didn't work is because you didn't turn off your AV and it kept deleting the single most important part of it.

A couple dumb questions:
1. Is your computer detecting your phone?
You may have a cable problem.
2. Is your phone properly recognized?
You likely haven't installed the drivers listed on the OneClick page for 32 bit and 64 bit computers.
3. Have you attempted to Odin back to stock?
In the first line of my signature you will see a link to Syndicate Rom Frozen and CWM Odin. Download that rom to your phone. Then follow the other link and download the EB13 pre-rooted with CWM 3.0.0.6. Odin the necessary files as the page tells you to, then boot into CWM, and flash Syndicate Rom Frozen. Follow all directions where applicable. When your phone is happy, shutdown properly. Three finger boot into CWM. Backup your phone, and then RESTORE that backup immediately. Journaling will be on. You will be happy. Any future problems from there will have been answered in the Syndicate thread.
Edit: I see k0nane beat me to the punch! I still recommend following the directions as I laid out above, this should be an easier fool-proof process for you. Otherwise, I yield to k0nane's expertise.
Don't use ROM manager. It is very buggy with the Epic.

Very true, but the directions for Gingerbreak actually told him to use it for this computer-less root method.
Thanks for all the help so far. So what's better than rom manager?
Is there a way to just install clockwork right now? I am not wanting a custom rom or anything else. The only reason I am rooting at all is to fix the lock screen date.
If I could just install clockwork from where I am at now that would be helpfull.
Id like to keep all my settings and apps n such just as they are I finaly have this thing kinda doing what I want I really don't wana mess with it too much more.
Thanks for all the help so far.
My biggest issue with rooting so far has been my lack of access to a computer that I can use to do the roting. I get pc access but getting access to one I can download to doesn't happen often
Thanks again

I have the same issue, I actually downloaded CWM, Roms, and everything to my phone and then loaded them to my work computer. Use dolphin mini if the default browser gives you issues downloading.
Syndicate has a flash-able fix for the date, is that what you want to apply? I just put it on for the hell of it, but I have to tell you, after May, you won't see a problem with any other month. If that's your only reason for rooting, you may just want to stick it out for this month, just saying.
Yeah that's really the only reason I'm rooting.
Thanks for all the help!

Hi all, first.. I appreciate any help from this posting. Seriously!!
I've done rooting, s-off, roms, etc.. i'm pretty familiar with it all, just on another device (glacier)..
I'm a little lost when it comes to the epic and just need some direction so I can help my friend without bricking his phone..
What I want:
* root
* s-off
* clockwork
* custom rom
I found a rooting thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388. However I'm not sure if its the 'latest' method as I experienced the "phone not connected" problem. I plan on bypassing my usb hub tomorrow and try again.
Does this turn s-off? is s=on on this device? (i haven't looked yet).
Lastly, please recommend a rom! I'm running royalginger on my glacier and love it! (thanks faux!!)
This is a newly ordered device, appears to be running froyo? (2.2.1)
Once again, thanks for the shortcuts!
(yes, i did search.. still uncertain of appropriate steps)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy2Et6qVGdo&feature=channel_video_title
Watch that. Teaches you about the Samsung Drivers you will need to install, how to root, and flash a SyndicateROM Frozen (great ROM)
Not sure about the s-off thing.
Hope this helps!
Bunch of other helpful videos and comments here too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009997
There is no need for S-off on epic, I believe he is referring to Nand Unlock which you find on a lot of the HTC and some other devices.
Awesome! This appears to be exactly what I needed! Very much appreciated.
glad I also now understand the epic (or samsung in general?) does not used nand, and no need for s-off.
Thanks again! Ill get this buttoned up for my buddy tomorrow.

Success!
I managed to screw it up and resolve it.. Here is the process i followed and problems i encountered with solutions.
i 1-click rooted based on the forum post and video after downloading all the necessary files...
Copied the rom over to the sdcard, booted into recovery and flashed the rom.
boned.. now it only boots into recovery.
Downloaded ODIN and updated rom (sorry, can't find the post.. it listed a replacement step 5 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700#Odin_Stock_Flashing)
Attempted to flash ODIN, which resulted in several failures and an issue where I couldn't actually connect to the device. I HAD to swap USB ports, this time to the front of the machine.
After flashing ODIN, it would still boot directly into recovery. So i decided to flash the rom found within the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700#Odin_Stock_Flashing).
Success! Stock rom.. rooted, this time with clockworkmod 3 (this was a separate download, sorry.. lost the thread. file was cwm3.zip. Also contained the 1-click root process).
Booted into recovery, and successfully flashed the rom after wiping cache/davlik.
Once again, thanks everyone!
Glad those videos helped
Glad you for it man. Ues you need cwm3 for most of the roms now cause there are mostly ext4 rom/kernels and not rfs

Samsung epic S-OFF?
I have a Sprint Samsung Epic 4g rooted. When I rename or delete stock apps they are instantly replaced. If the Epic doesn't need S-OFF (security off) as Onyoursix says, then how do I delete or rename stock apps and keep them off?

You need sdx app removal tool or root explorer, or mount the system directory as writeable in terminal. System is read only as default. You just need to be rooted and root explorer is great.
