Hey xda,
I'm looking for a Task Manager widget. I enjoyed the one that came with my i9000's factory ROM because it showed how many tasks were running on the widget. Are there similar ones that have this capability?
Advanced Task Killer widget only offers a little Android Icon, and I liked knowing how many apps were running at a glance.
Why dont you continue to use the stock samsung app ?
It is not available on Darky's Gingerbread ROM that I am using. I would gladly use it if somebody knew how to port it out of the factory ROM?
He probably uses another launcher. If i had to guess.

Thank you very much! I guess my search terms were slightly off when looking for it
Do not use this App - it froze and would not install on my phone and others.
Any new suggestions?

Can you elaborate on this? Checked my SD for a system or app directory but didn't find one...do I just have to put it on the SD and run it from the phone?
Use root explorer and place it in /system/ app folder.

Root explorer is a paid app?
I have "My Files" that lets me browse my internal SD, and I don't have a /system or /app folder

Yes! Root explorer is a paid app. It let's you view system files that are hidden in other file managers. Im not aware of any other app that is capable of doing that.

AndExplorer
You can use AndExplorer instead of root explorer. It's free and as robust. Can't post link by just type "AndExplorer" in google and check appbrain
I browsed the SD using ANDexplorer (thank you!) and I found that the Program Monitor widget is already located there....is there something I have to do to enable/install it? When I look through my widgets it isn't there.
Could it be related to me using LauncherPro?

Ah makes sense then. Is there any comparable program that you know of, that shows how many programs are running at a glance? I only really kill tasks when I have 5+, so using something like Advanced Task Killer doesn't work well for me since I'd have to open it just to find out how many tasks are running.
I don't know, maybe I'm too picky
I would recommend u to download minfree manager. Thats not actually showing how many apps are running nor can u kill any apps. But u can tweak androids inner task manager to kill apps earlier based on free rams left. U need root for that and u should be carefull messing with the values. If u need advice with it feel free to ask me.
If u really want a task killer like the samsung one im sorry j cant help u since i dont use something like that.

I hate to say it but I actually prefer the candy coating user experience of Sense to that of Stock Android. While playing with CM5 there were many things I liked and many I didn't. As a result I went back to Sense. Perhaps it just because it's what I have grown to know over the last couple days.
Anyway, the one thing in CM I really did like was the Photo Gallery, which included Picasa. Anyone know what I can do to get that Photo Gallery into Sense?
I think I might play with some other Sense ROMs today. Maybe someone has already done the work for me.
Thanks in advance for any help.
i may be able to make a zip for you. wow im busy tonight. i have to make a theme for the droid/milestone, a theme and two zips for sense roms.

I don't mind doing it myself. I just need a push in the right direction. I'm technically inclined but 3 days new to Android. What exactly am I looking for? Is the stock Photo Gallery a widget or app of sorts?
If you are willing to send me something later, that's cool too. I'm just trying to suck in as much info as possible. I don't want to cook or anything but I'd like to be able to have better control of what I can do to my existing ROM.
Thanks!

it is an app. if you want a zip i can make one. if not, the app is located in the system/app folder of cm5. all you have to do is put the app in the tools folder of the sdk and adb push gallery.apk /system/app in rcovery.

So I installed the app and it seems to be working just fine. Thanks.
I'd like a widget or something for it so it's open on a home screen without needing to open the app. Additionally, is there any modding of the app file that I can do fix or remove the camera button. It doesn't seem to work in Sense.
Thanks again for all your help.
not that i know of.

There is the possibility it could also be a widget. I may be mistaken, but I think unless you actually installed the gallery, in order to use the widget you'd have to delete some file. Again, I may be mistaken, I haven't tried this.
EDIT: I'm just thinking this because I remember in order to properly remove the Facebook/Twitter/etc widgets from stock, one had to remove some sort of database to force a widget database refresh, because it only does that on a legit (un)install

Found this on Galaxy s2 forums.. I KNEW everyone would find this useful as a home replacement and appreciate the added customization over stock Touchwiz. Root access is required if your device comes with Touchwiz. This is Fr4gg0r and Swiftwork's work, not my own. Anyhow, check it out!
Yeah, I've been using this for quite a while on my OG Epic 4G.
Just FYI, install TW4Manager and do a check for latest stable version and it will install TW 4.5 for you.
*EDIT*
Install instructions
Before installation you need:
1. Root access.
2. An alternate launcher installed in case of installation failure. (the stock phone has Sprint ID launcher)
3. Backup and Uninstall: TouchWiz30Launcher.apk (I used SDXStockappremover but you can also use TitaniumBackup)
4. Install TW4Manager
To Install TouchWiz 4.5:
~Launch TW4Manager (fyi only runs in portrait mode)
~Scroll Down to "Check for Updates" -select
~Select "Latest stable version" (you will be warned that you should have alternate launcher installed)
~TouchWiz 4.5 will automatically download and install
Notes
~The default homescreen dock will be setup for 5 icons. To add icons go to appdrawer>menu>edit and then you can drag and drop your new dock icons
~Some preinstalled widgets will not work out of the box. To fix this you'll need to backup and uninstall them (such as DualClock.apk, SamsungWidget_ProgramMonitor.apk, TouchWizCalendar.apk) You can then go into TW4Manager>Widgets>SGS2 widgets-by randomguy123; select your widgets and install; After you install you need to restart Touchwiz in order to use the widget, otherwise it'll show an error when you try to use the widget.

No, uninstall touchwiz using ti backup and then install the twmanager
Does this have hardware acceleration like the stock launcher?
It doesnt say in the thread but it runs exactly the same as the stock launcher except way more options. I havent noticed any speed difference.
If you like touchwiz, its a no brainer.

hi,
before a week I think, I intalled my new rom - CM7
and yesterday I discovered that I installed new widgets but they are not in the "widgets list", just the default widgets - like original clock.
I mean that if I install widgets like clockQ, minimalistic text and more I can't added them to home (Go Launcher) and widget locker
what version of cm7 are you on? and how are you trying to add the widgets?

I'm taking it that you got it from PhAkEer's post from the thread?
And by elaborate, are you needing help by placing the file in the proper location? I prefer to use Root Explorer for such tasks.
And I believe you have to set the permission of the file to rw-r--r--

Sorry here's a little more info.
I've gotten up to that point using Root Explorer. I figured i could copy permissions set for other apps. Was that wrong? I've never had to do that before. One thing I wasn't sure about was the other two files(com.joko & com.Funmade) Do they stay in the extracted folder or should they be moved into the system/app folder? I was able to add a settings widget and a randomize widget only. Nothing seems to apply when i go through the settings.
** I remembered having read about widgets not working with the new launcher, so i went back to the old launcher now everything seems to work. I'm still unsure how to set it up as the lock screen though.

I apologize but I'm not back on S5 at the moment. And you're right I believe . That was an apk, not an .so file that I listed the permissions for. Let's see if we can't get PhAkEer to respond..
:edit: I sent a pm asking if they could provide the answer
In the mean time, I'm thinking that the other two don't have any bearing.. here's his post.

Unfortunately with version .8, things went, well, wonky. Technical term of the day.
It is a great rom, but couldn't get root to stick for unknown reasons. Not saying you can't root after flashing but VeNuM also had other issues, so best not to put it out for the masses.
Not speaking for him but I think S5 achieved the goal of what he meant the rom to be.
Phakeer was working on trying to patch things up in .8 but don't know the current status.
