So I've been dealing with this for a few days or so and started posting about it in Cyanogen's Rom thread, but I figured its finally time to make a thread about this.
First and foremost, I'm rooted, got SU, S-off, and I can get to #. Radio - EVO_Radio_2.15.00.11.19, PRI - EVO_PRI_1.90_003, NV - EVO_NV_1.90_003, H-Boot 2.10, and I'm using AR Recovery v2.1.1 (I've tried 1.8.0, 1.7.x, etc.). I just formatted my SD card Fat32 the non quick way, and tried flashing Cyanogen, and Evervolv, and my HTC Evo 4G screen just loops. Comes on for a minute, turns off, and repeats. I've also tried rerooting, which was mentioned elsewhere, as well as trying to flash MUIU, which flashes fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you flash GAPPS along with the rom?
Yes with 11/14 HDPI and I've tried it without it. Also im doing full wipes + Format All everytime.

what hw revision do you have? 003? 004? also, did you accept an ota? or got the evo with 2.10?
003 and I updated to 3.70. I'm not sure if I had 2.10 prior to updating, but I kinda think I may have had 2.02 before. I bought my Evo last Wed.

excellent..
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883548
it will give you the engineering hboot, which has fastboot commands available and will probably be more useful than 2.10.
I thought it wasn't okay for people with 2.10 to flash back.
Edit: erred ok I'll try it.
Edit2: Op even says don't use with 003/004
If you're doing this on late hardware models 003/004 (with new partitions) then you should stop reading now and probably not do it. I'm not sure if the new recovery can fix up your stuff after you do this

If it helps any, when I run cat /proc/mtd my partitions are 40000. This tells me I'm on the newer partition and should stay away from the method mentioned above.

K one last thing. I'm going to unroot following the thread linked below, but what about RA 2.1.1 being my current recovery? Will an RUU flash it back to stock recovery? I'm also going to unroot and try the rooting method in following the thread and if its still a no go when flashing aosp roms, I'll unroot and exchange. Btw thanks for all the help!

yes, an ruu straightens you back out to unroot. what i suggest you do is flash a stock rom before doing so.
no problem, i'm still trying to figure out why your phone is being so selective, but bad nands is always creeping up as a possible cause.

Yeah I just ran unrevoked forever s-on linked in zikronix's thread and I'm flashing back to stock with his PC36img Hboot method. Like I said, I might as well try unrooting with the method in that thread and try flashing Cyanogen again. If its a no go, I'll just repeat the s-on, flash back to stock, and exchange it. Prolly gonna tell them 4G didn't work when I was in Chicago or something lol.

I see a lot of rom threads that say you MUST update your radio to use the rom. Doing a search I also saw a lot of posts saying you can't flash radios if you used unrevoked to root your Evo. So what does this mean for those of us that used the 2.2 root guide which uses unrevoked? Do I really HAVE to update my radio to use these roms? Since I used the 2.2 guide would it be safe to unroot and then root with simple root so I can flash a new radio? Or should I just not worry about it and flash away?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Wow nothing? I tried flashing the new radio and it doesn't work. Gets aborted by clockwork. Does anyone have an answer? I've searched here and ppcgeeks and found nothing.

You can flash radios if you are s-off.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i have rooted 3 different devices using the 2.2 method, and from what i can tell, you dont *need* to flash a radio. if you do part 2 of the method, it basically loads a 2.2 rom that has Super User enabled. Im no dev, but from what i can tell, flashing the radios have to be done in 2.2 because the way the 2.2 software communicates with the radios (cell and wimax) differently, so the radio has to be updated to handle this change. using part 2 puts your radio back to the 2.15.***whatever Official sprint radios.
flashing the radios are basically for anyone coming from a 2.1 rom who hasnt been updated already.
just idle speculation....can someone else confirm this for me?

I thought using unrevoked forever put you at s-off. Do you know where I can check this? Didn't see it anywhere in clockwork recovery.
@newbie: I followed part 2 and still have 2. 05 radio. Think I should go back and flash a stock 2. 2 again to try and get the radio flashed?
Thanks for the help guys, far different from the winmo and webos hacking I'm used to.

You can check A-off by turning your phone off... then hit and hold the volume down button and hit and hold the power button still holding the volume down button.. brings you to the recovery. On top shows s-off s-on.. unrevoked forever completesbthe full root and nand.

I have notice coming doing the downgrade to 2.1 and putting any new Rom I have way better download and up speed.. I use to get max 40 kilobytes now same area I get 125.. where is usually get 125 I get double that and even hit 1.2 mbps. I'm happy and didn't do any radio updates like they said to do..

I read up above that you are using clockwork, right? You need to use amon-ra recovery I believe to flash the radios...have you tried amon ra?
i flashed both with clockwork, when i flashed a rom i did do both the radio and wimax, don't think i even bothered to check to see if i was already up to date, but did it anyways just to be safe, had no issue with clockwork.

Does anyone know where to get a copy of the stock inc2 recovery image? This is something I failed to backup before installing Clockworkmod recovery image.

The are some here that say they are for the vivo_w(DInc2), but are in the IS forums.
Thanks. Downloading now. We'll see how it goes.

it would be good if we could get that posted somewhere for everyone. i'm sure someone's gonna need to return their phone to VZ soon enough.
If you follow the link provided by TB13, you will see the download link for the vivo_w which is for the incredible 2. Launch the application to let it extract everything (its Windows only) and check your temp directory for the directory created by the application (guid format). You will see a Rom.zip file which contains what you need.

I was able to successfully revert back to stock Froyo 2.2.1 (non-rooted) using the RUU image RUU_Vivo_W_VERIZON_WWE_1.34.605.3_Radio_0.99.01.02 25_2_NV_VZW1.92_release_181303_signed from TB13's link above. After running the RUU I still have S-OFF from AlphaRevX. This did remove clockworkmod recovery and restore the default HTC recovery. This was just to verify it worked.

Only thing is, I'm not sure that's what shipped on the Inc2's. From what I've read, I think it might be 1.34.605.4 is what shipped. That said, same results here. I did go ahead and end up reinstall clockwork and have Gingersense back from recovery. Wonderful stuff.

Interesting. No quite what I was hoping for out of that RUU, but I guess I can't complain. The real interest is seeing if someone who is S-ON and running OTA can use it to downgrade and get S-OFF.

I am getting another Dinc 2 in the mail today. If it has GB on it, I will attempt to flash 2.2.1 RUU and see what happens. I will post the results here. Only thing is, how do I attempt to flash that on a stock s-off GB phone? I do see un1c0de has some instructions, but what should I do with Rom.zip once I have it? My other problem is I have to return the one I have, which is s-off. I will have to flash the RUU on there too, but I just hope they don't catch the fact that it is s-off. (I'm not trying to pull a scam. Bought the Dinc 2 at retail, then found out I could trade in my POS Fascinate for a free Dinc 2, so now I have to return the one I bought. Nothing wrong with it, just want my $475 back)
Edit: Looks like someone tried and posted their results in another thread. Oh well. Hopefully for me it still has froyo on it when it gets here.
You just news to run the ruu in Windows.

Main version is older!

Why are you unrooting his device? If it's to get the OTA 2.3.3 update, wouldn't it be easier to flash a rooted stock froyo rom, go to the system update setting and then update? Of course, I'm assuming that is what you're trying to do so forgive me if I misunderstood your post.

Ok, sorry for not being very informed. He tried to update to the ota but it failed. I assumed that it must be because the s-off since he hadn't done anything but tether.
He really has no need to be rooted because the only thing he wanted todo was tether. Now, I have turned the s-on, but the pc36img fails to update.
Is it safe to just check for/install the system up? Or does the phone need to be unrooted?

Honestly, my bro-in-law doesn't need root. Here I am trying to fix his problem. I've spent more time on this than I should. I mod my X, but the evo confuses me some.
Are you saying he can take the ota rooted, with s-on?
You need S-Off for permanent root and ability to flash custom ROMs. So before you take the OTA for him, as long as the phone is 2.2, run Unrevoked once again and install AmonRa.
Does he even like Sense? I would suggest trying one of the setups from my sig, or even MIUI if he doesn't need 4G.
You could have S-On and get the OTA, which would make his phone unrootable and boring, or you could just root back and flash a ROM with better battery life (I hear that Calkulin's works great, but so do other ROMs)
Before you do anything, try showing him pictures of MIUI, SalvageMod, MikG or another ROM and ask what he likes best.

Oh, and he would need a custom ROM with tethering unlocked for the ability to tether for free. And he would need S-Off to put that ROM on.

I understood from your earlier post that your brother-in-law didn't need root and thus the reasons for the answers I gave. Yes, he can accept the OTA while S-ON and he will indeed upgrade his device to 2.3.3, however, should he wish to unroot afterwards, he won't be able to until an exploit can be found. I take it your friend isn't the type of person who flashes roms, mods, kernels and such.

if its hboot 2.16 and S on, you are boned since you unrooted it when you took the gb update
so basically...dont tell your friend that you screwed his chances to root yourself lol

I was wondering if someone could create a guide to complete S-Off with Beaup's mod? I don't want to brick my phone since it's the only one I have, so I figured this could be beneficial to everyone, not just me.
Thanks guys
If you follow his guide, it's pretty straight forward. It failed the first time for me because of either not having the stock kernel, or just a bad usb port, but that didn't brick my phone. It just didn't do anything. Tried it the second time and it worked like a charm.

Thanks man for clearing it up. Just kind of new to HTC in particular. First HTC phone. Was just kind of curious if I had to worry about anything different.
Im running nos sense but when i tried to go back to my backup of stock before root i got a md5 mismatch on cwm and so it wont backup to that. Does anybody know where i can get the stock rom to be able to run the s-off method. thanks

You should be able to flash one of the stock based roms and make sure you have the stock kernel.
