The VGA recording mode it's ok but... its old now...
If the motorola have a 3610, can record on WVGA right?
I have defy too. Can not record. The camcoder just closes.
Did you tried lgcamera from market? or anybites flashed stock camcorder?

both works fine for me in 848x480 up to 10megabit

This patch is don't work, for my Phone(Motorola Defy 2.2.1 Orange).
Link's camera just disappeared. It was reflashing mobile...
Hello!
This WVGA video recording patch working on 2.2.2 CEE Froyo?
Respect to all Defy users!
Yes, it works on 2.2.2 CEE.
I'm really a noob when it comes to this stuff, but i'm a fast learner. So can anyone tell me how to install that patch from antibyte's 24th post?
edit: i have android 2.2.2 from update through official motorola update software.
You have to root your phone (with superoneclick), install custom recovery (clockworkmod), put the zip on phone's card, reboot into custom recovery and install zip from card. First do a nandroid backup (just in case...). Use LGCamera, the patch won't work with stock camera.
2 questions, where do i find custom recovery to install on my phone and what is the operation for rebooting in recovery mode?
nevermind, i searched a little in the forum and found how to reboot and install, will post little update on how this worked out for me.
I was in the middle of posting the link for 2ndinit for you , but now if you find how to do it I will wait to see how it worked. Just remember to do a nandroid backup first and then play with update zip's
It worked great. Happy i can now record underwater with widescreen, much better. I'm now playing with the settings from lgcamera to see what's best.
If you installed the 720p patch, then set LGCamera to 1280x720, video encoder mpeg4, video file format mpeg4, bitrate 5 Mbit (5 is enough), audio aac bitrate 102400 and...that's it you have 720p recording
I use 848x480, mpeg4, mpeg4, 5Mbit, framerate auto, audio source and encoder auto and works great. The settings you wrote, tried them and it says recording failed.
If i change resolution for 720p it doesn't work, if i change to aac it doesn't work.

Do you have a red lens or green lens? (Bayer or SOC)
i have a green lens defy, and the wvga recording works without problems (not on lgcamera though), and 720p playback too

Install the attached app. Usage: "Volume Down" start record and "Volume Down" stop record+exit. Video is saved in "/sdcard/default.3gp".
The app is pretty basic, just to allow and test 848 x 480 video recording in 2.1 roms.
It works on my 2.51 Eclair HK ROM and it contains no malicious code.
Don't know if it will work on 2.2 Froyo.
crash in my defy eclair 2.1
It works very well on 2.2.1 FroYo Orange
Nice to see *.mpg than *.3gp

what kind of audio encoding did you get? 8k sampling and 128kbps or 16k sampling and 256kbps?
Nope...
Code:
Audio: AAC 8000Hz mono 48kbps [SoundHandler]
Video: MPEG4 Video 848x480 [VideoHandler]
1. Can you fix issue about overwrite "default.3gp" by adding simply counter for written file?
2. Possibly is capture by FPS=60 and playback FPS=15? (I mean slowmotion)
i will try it on my UK 2.2 pays mod, hope it work fine
Great! It works smoothly on 2.51.1 CEE. (1,2Ghz)

I am using stock 2.1 and downloaded and applied app...I opened the camcorder and it didn't record full screen. Is there a step that I am missing? I would love to be able to record in full screen!
Thanks!
You have to open the downloaded app instead of stock camcorder and use the vol. down button to start and stop the recording. It isnt a patch it is a independent application.

i also have a recompiled libOMX_Core.so that enables the hardware 720p decoder and encoder for 2.51 2.1 stock rom if anyone's interested.
it allows the defy to play some mpeg4 and h.264 videos in the stock player. cpu usage using hardware is 10-20% vs 50%+ using software (rockplayer).
Sounds great. Will this enable 720p video recording (optional for standard or lg camera app?) ?

no. for that to happen have to modify pv opencore + omx so that the 720p encoder is selected for encoding and may be a bunch of other things too.
the lib*.so is for 2.51 2.1 rom. my defy is on that rom and decoding works. i dont wanna brick ppl's phones so i have some reservations on posting it.
Well... 720p decoding already works on my stock defy (2.51.1). At least when the settings are correct
BTT: I tried the fullscreen recording and always get a freeze frame after 5 seconds (still records the sound).

did you take a look with ddms to see if the 720p decoder is selected when playing those vids?
the app is written in std android api with just a little hack to get aac audio. still it doesnt run on all 2.1 roms......

For some odd reason, it won't work on my rooted defy. I have it working on my wife's defy which isn't rooted. On mine, it force closes when I try to open the app...any suggestions?
And big thanks to developer...recording in full screen is what this thing should have done in the first place...so thanks for making it happen! Thumbs down for motorola

ok, be warned, this works on my 2.51 HK eclair rom. i dont know if it will give you boot loops or not! so do the necessary precautions first, like backup and finding a sbf that you can flash back to in case this doesnt work.
you'll need to be rooted and have adb on your pc.
the steps are:
rename libOMX_Core.zip to libOMX_Core.so (it's not really a zip)
On pc:
>adb push libOMX_Core.so /sdcard
>adb shell
$su
#mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
#cd /system/lib
#mv libOMX_Core.so libOMX_Core.bak
#cp /sdcard/libOMX_Core.so .
#chmod 644 libOMX_Core.so
#reboot
oohh, well, I would give it a whirl but I'll be honest...I'm a noob and would end up bricking my phone just because that's my kind of luck! My phone is rooted but not because I did it, I bought it that way.
On that note, my wife's phone is not rooted and your camcorder app works like a charm. On my rooted phone, it's force closing when I open the app. I unistalled and reinstalled a fresh copy, but it's still not working. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks again! I really appreciate your help.

well mine is also rooted and i based my app on that. is your rooted defy on 2.51 2.1 rom? there are a few versions of 2.1 stock roms around. my guess on your FC issues is 848x480 is not supported on 2.1 roms other than 2.51. i also did some mod (a few lines) on my build.prop to get better audio encoding.
if you have ddms or logcat you can post them and i'll take a look.
Not sure which rom I am on...I am very sorry for being a noob! If I go into 'about phone' - which field would tell me the rom? I am in the process of downloading the sdk and java files...I have a slower internet connection so it might take me some time but I'll post the log as soon as possible (this is a whole new world for me
Hi I ve just installed gingervillain 2.3 on my desire and I'd like to know if there is any option of recording 720p video like the the stock rom. Also is there a way to focus by touch to the point I want just like in the stock rom ? Thanks.
With AOSP you won't get a camera app like the stock on. In the changelogs it doesn't mention about 720p recording but have a look in the camera app.
Unfortunately I ve checked every possible setting in camera app but no 720p setting. Is there any other camera app on the market tha offers 720p recording or is it locked by the rom ?
Try lgCamera from the market.
I just tried it and checked the 1280x720 video option but image froze upon recording and the output video was not playable. So I guess it has to do the rom itself. Should I try another rom ? Is any other, AOSP rom preferably, capable of recording 720p video and has generally better camera application? Thanks for your help so far.
Try to use different settings, not just changing the resolution. Try to switch between H.264/MP4 and bitrate, audio codec (this should be AAC) and see if works. People reported working 720p on AOSP ROMs with LGCamera, but you have to mess around with the settings.
Earlier when i was on stock froyo, I had downloaded a patch from xda to enable 720p playback & full screen video recording.
But now when I try to install that patch on cm7, it fails.
Is there any alternate way to enable full screen recording??
Thanks in advance.
CM7 already has fullscreen recording. It is just cropped (smaller resolution). Sam as on froyo. 720 maybe won't be available. On green lensed device not at least. If it doesn't work with rc1v2, try a nightly.
Sent from my MB525
Had it been fullscreen, the playback would have also been in fullscreen, but it actually isn't. Correct me if I am wrong.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Just tried. I get an option full screen and the playback IS in full screen. I don't know if it worked perfect on RC1 but it does in 2208 nightly.
Sent from my MB525
There aint fullscreen recording in the cm7 RC1 , your best bet is a nightly indeed.
Does anyone have a working MIUI camera that supports 720P on the evo? I have been having issues with 720P recording with MIKROM 2.61 and wanted to find a different camera app to see if the app is the issue. I am told MIUI CAMERA app works better. I found a MIUI MULTICAMERA 17 signed APK and installed it but it doesnt support 720P on the evo (no choice for that setting).
any ideas?? or is there a better camera app for video recording? (I also tried LG CAMERA but it freezes when you try to record 720p)
Well right now MIUI doesnt support 720p video recording thats something we need to wait for the CM team or the Chinese devs to come up with. Because that is actually embedded in the rom and it isnt just a simple apk change otherwise it would have been done so. But I am sure it is being working on and hopefully will show up soon.

only a few days ago then it started to officially support the one x.
Nice, just installed the Pro version, photo's uncompressed, you'll get a file size of 4,5mb, instead of the 1,5 of htc, better quality
you can record movies in 3gp and mp4.. I've set it to mp4, because that runs better on the One X
also the bitrate to 30mbps, instead of the 7 you get from stock htc camera
stereo quaility record on 320kbps and 48hz
218mb for 1min mp4 movie, hmm haha
maybe I should try 20mbps bitrate
Do you have drop frames in video?

Same happens to me when I try to activate the stabilisation in the camcorder.
Great camera app, I'm playing with it at the moment trying all options and buttons.
Recording in mpeg4 with video bitrate of 100Mbit and video framerate 30 plus resolution 1920x1088. (5 seconds video is 16,9mb)
Switching between picture and camcorder works fine for me and also stabilisation I've enabled, no freeze.
I still use the free version.
I can switch between picture and camcorder without problems.
Also stabilisation I have enabled.
Edit; the camcorder is very very nice, without it the camcorder is great as well but if the zoom would work fluent it would be a kick ass camcorder!
Edit 2; the zoom does work fluent! You can zoom in and out with the volume button WOW !!!!
Last edit; the zoom isn't fluent but I can live with that (hopefully it can be fixed in futher development), bought the pro version.
* Video stabilization
* Auto rotate video

On my stock HOX the free version of lgCamera hangs whenever I go to video-recording mode forcing me to click the menu button to exit the app. It also, somehow, manages to shut down the camera service making even the stock HTC camera to malfunction!
So far the latest Camera ICS (free version) has managed to work flawlessly with my device, making incredible videos that are almost 500mb in size for a 2min clip, but remains on the 24 frames all the time. Videos do look smooth though.
What I want to know is if someone using lgCamera has managed to bypass the stock framerate limit of 24fps? And what are the results?
I'm on a no rooted stock HOX as well, latest 1.29.401.11
Weird but all does function fine for me, no freeze nothing.
I've set the frame rate at 30 but how can I check if it's real 30?
Edit; your right, last video does 21 frames per second.
Edit; my apologies I just realise by reading your post a second time that you do not have any problems on latest version as well.

Hi again,
I've just had a very fast reply by email from the developer of lgCamera.
He told me that previous version 6.25 did hang sometimes but latest version 6.3 is checked on all mode and shouldn't.
Are you running the latest version?

exactly the same issue with paid app, latest version.
it's the only app so far that managed to **** up the stock camera, needed a reboot to get it working again
i also have wrong aspect ratio in the viewfinder after pressing record, when shooting video, but the recorded material is fine....
So far Camera ICS+ is superior, even with 24fps.
The developer of lgCamera has opened a new thread for beta testing
in the general apps and games all device Android section >> HERE
Yes I downloaded the latest free version from the market. I downloaded by other means the old pro 1.25 version and it works flawlessly, it manages 30fps while recording from a moving vehicle! Strange, right?
You can check the framerate and other properties of your videos by opening those files with MX Player.
So, does the newest version lgCamera in your case, create videos with a higher bitrate than the stock camera?
