I have been trying to root my phone for a while now and apparently have done so successfully(says the unrevoked screen). That being said I don't know how to access super user status(I appologize for noob language). Am i missing something?!? Do i need to enter a specific mode to change mess with the phone?
I am sorry for the obviously noob question but i am lost here and don't know where to go. I am super eager to see what this phone can actually do. Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.

You don't really access it unless an app calls it. In the Apps, you should see Superuser. If you do, then you should be good. Try this link:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744807
Thank you
I do see the superuser under my applications. I was really excited to delete some of the stock aps that come on my phone. How do I do that?
Figured it out thank you
This link is a good step by step to root and basic processes once rooted. Thank you for your help as i would still be aimlessly trying to figure things out.

download titanium backup but before you do that i would download ROM manager (or just do a nandroid backup through recovery)
Titanium backup can uninstall practically anything which is why you SHOULD backup your ROM before you start going on a uninstall rampage.
Titanium and ROM manager are indispensable in the root world.
good luck!
Unrevoked 3.21 and custom ROM
A quick question. I've been searching to find out if gaining root with unrevoked 3.21 will allow you to access ROM manager and download the ROM you want. On CM6 site, it indicates that even after 2.2 root, I would still have to downgrade to 2.1 to flash CM6. Is that still true, and is that true for all ROMs?

not sure what guide you are looking at but some are dated, some are for different phones, and some can confuse the reader because there are mutliple ways to do the same thing...etc.
just use the unrevoked tool for your phone. it will install clockworkmod recovery for you, give you root and s-off.
go to the market... download ROM manager. In ROM manager you will be able to download CM6 and a few other ROMs. no need to downgrade. Have fun and do not forget to BACKUP!

Much appreciated. The guide was here but I figured it was probably outdated, before 3.21. I love the community here. So helpful. Can't thank you enough.

Actually that's a great guide. I used that myself and i am sure the unrevoked part is still the same:
1. Go to the unrevoked website.
2. Select the HTC Incredible.
3. Download the option for operating system on the computer.
4. Connect the HTC Incredible & run the unrevoked software.
* The process takes a minute or two and in the end HTC Incredible should boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
5. Once complete, the HTC Incredible will have SU access and ClockworkMod Recovery will be installed in place of stock recovery.

also, don't get confused about updating your radio in that guide... i am positive you have the latest (Official) radio anyways... but to check hit Menu>Settings>About Phone>software information
baseband version = radio
Official Froyo radio is 2.15.00.07.28
The only time I had a problem with the official radio was when i flashed the Desire ROM... which makes sense that you should have that latest leaked radio.
Hi Guys,
I have a quick one...
I rooted by DInc using Unrevoked3, with the S-ON option. I had the original Eclair build on, I updated to Froyo and then used the tool to root, and install Clockwork Recovery...
Now, I am learning that with the S-ON option, there are far too many limitations on customization of the phone. I have had various custom ROMs on the phone, since the root, and now I am wonder, basically how to get to the same exact place, with the S-OFF?
Should I just run the Unrevoked3 flash program on my phone again, with the Security disabled this time, and then just use Nandroid to restore one of my ROMs I currently have running?
Can someone please confirm this process, step by step for me? I don't want to brick my phone....
Any help is appreciated guys, thank you!
Just run unrevoked again, this time with s-off, i don't believe re-rooting when you are already rooted will cause a brick. You don't even have to reinstall the rom.

I found a forum where there talking of rooting Wildfire S (Htc Marvel)
Unfortunatly , this forum is in Chinese language.
There is the link with google translate : http://translate.googleusercontent....1.html&usg=ALkJrhgeEKjydt_I6ck9muCipyxUwFujLA
Hope there is going to help root of Wildfire S
The Wildfire S can already be rooted by using Gingerbreak.
Only if you have S-Off device ... With XTC Clip... We search to do without the clip.

Not really. It can only be rooted with GingerBreak on some firmware versions. For instance, the Bell Canada Wildfire S has a very recent firmware version that can't be rooted with GingerBreak. They fixed the exploit.
Here are the Chinese instructions to root the Wildfire S. It's pretty clear and straightforward and only works with S-OFF. I haven't tried it yet though
http://bbs.xda.cn/thread-7706280-1-1.html
(translate it with Google Chrome, just right click and "Translate to English".
Or the fully translated link:
http://translate.google.com/transla...n&u=http://bbs.xda.cn/thread-7706280-1-1.html
By the way... "brush" means "boot".
I am attaching the root.zip file they used to root so you guys don't have to register on the chinese forum.
The process is basically boot into recovery and flash that file.
I have recently bought a Wildfire S with 2.3.3 ROM. Can I root it by flasing the root.zip?
Will I not brick my phone?
Is it a permanent root?
Thanks for answers, in advance!
The zipfile appears to only have files for /system; so your bootloader and recovery is unaffected. Even *if* it bricks your phone, you can reflash a stock rom without problems.
In other words, there is *zero* risk in trying it out yourself.
Do you know what the Bell one can be rooted with?

Currently it can't be rooted with GingerBreak nor SuperOneClick. I haven't tried the chinese method specified above because I haven't seen my girlfriend in a few days and she's the one with this phone.
Why not just install a custom recovery and then a rooted ROM instead, would make everything so much easier.

Yep, but I don't think the chinese method is complicated at all. We'd have to try it first though. I haven't found yet a rooted ROM for this phone.

If you look in the code box it says it has root permissions with Superuser installed.
it have been rooted
Tested on stock European ROM (S-OFF with XTC clip) and works perfectly. Just flash it with the custom recovery and reboot!

Have fun.
I tried searching in the forum, but couldn't really find anything that's specific to my problem.
Basically, my phone was rooted, and I've been using Cyanogen for past half year or so. Just updated to nightly 215 like last night. but i just realized my phone still have s-on. so is there a way to turn it to s-off?
i was going to try root it again, but was scared rooting doesn't work for android 2.3.7, and might mess up my phone.
Any help is appreciated!
Do you have ClockworkMod Recovery? In ROM Manager, press menu and then Manual Flash Override. It should detect the version if it's present. To root, install the zip from here with it. Does this work for you?
As you have already installed cm7 you are rooted. S-on does not mean your not rooted it just means you are restricted as to what you can customize on your phone. To s-off you will need to provide details as to which hboot version your phone is running then maybe its just a revolutionary flash needed or you may have to downgrade to official froyo to get new hboot which revolutionary can work with?

hey, thnx for the reply! yes i have clockworkmod 5.02, and i already have superuser on my phone.
if im not wrong, my phone should be rooted alrdy, just somehow, its still s-on
hey, that don't sound complicated.
wen i go into hboot, this is what's there:
Buzz PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0007
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-3.35.20.10

Have a look here and read carefully thge instructions.
http://revolutionary.io/
That should do the job.
Good luck!
thanks so much! actually read that b4 wrongly, and thought i couldn't use it. but i'll try again.
will post result soon!
Don't set it to S-Off for the sake of S-Off. You have root already. If you need read/write /system access, just run recovery and mount /system. You can access it from adb.
Ok now you have to do things the hard way. Lol. Your hboot is not gonna work with revolutionary. What I did was flash safe wwe rom from link found in 3xenos sticky development thread to make things easier for your phone. Then downloaded the ruu. Exe and extract the rom img and rename that to pc49img.zip and place on sdcard root then reboot into hboot and let it install. Then its about running revolutionary to gain s-off then simply reinstall cm7 or nandroid. If your familier with adb then there are prob easier ways to do all this but this is how I did it. Sorry I can't provide links and stuff but research properly before attempting this and check guides on xda. It sounds daunting as it scared the brown stuff out of me but I am a simpleton lol and I managed it with a helping hand from Yoda. (3xeno) the all knowing God of helpfulness. Goodluck. P.s I had my phone a year without s-off so no major. Regards Slymobi.

Slymobi, you're right.
I overlooked his Hboot version, that should first be fixed.
After that the revolutionery solution will work

Hello,
A few days ago, I asked a question on this forum about how to root my Wildfire S after the update to 2.14.401.1 but with S-off. Some gave me a link to another thread where it worked for him. (A link to a thread on xda forum). On androidforums.com, someone sayed to me I could still use Zergrush to root my phone, but is this true? Before my phone got bricked, I had unlocked bootloader with s-on and rooted with HTC Supertool V3 (and there with option zergrush). But will this also work if your phone is s-off and after that new update or should I use this, what the guy on my question here gave me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1616326 . I hope this was understandable. If not, just ask me what you don't know.
Thanks in advance!

This is at least the 3rd thread you've opened to ask this question. Just root the phone already!
Like I already said in the other forum, there is no rom-specific way of rooting your phone. Since you are s-off any method will work including the HTC Supertool . Skip the video tut because it's not very complete. If you're not sure of what you are doing, find a good guide that is complete that you can follow.
Rooting doesn't brick phones. Noobs messing up their ROMs after rooting does. Make sure you install CWM Recovery after rooting and do a backup before messing with your ROM or installing a custom ROM to avoid another trip to the phone shop.

I prefer flashing it from fastboot. I know a couple folks that have softbricked the phone flashing from the app. I think flashing from bootloader/fastboot removes some variables.

So if I follow step 5 here: http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s-all-things-root/480954-guide-how-root-wildfire-s-s-finally.html , there will be no reason that I brick my phone and it will work?
