[Q] Q about rom with best battery life - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which rom provides the best and longest battery life?

Now that all depends on what you want the rom for.
Do you want HTC Sense? Android Stock? AOSP?
Then the kernels you use have a dramatic difference, and the Radio which can be used.
Personally I'm on:
Rom - Oxygen 1.0.4 (AOSP)
Radio - 32.48.00.32U_5.10.05.30
Kernel - 2.6.35.9-vorkKernel [email protected] #1
And from all this, depending on how I use the rom.. On a busy day I'll get near 15 hours battery life, and on a quiet time, I can get around 30-40 hours, and all that, without using SetCpu.
So you've got to look at quite a lot of options. Also depends on what apps you use, and widgets, brightness etc.
Not much help but that's my setup and how it works personally for me.

I have tried Miui and also defrost but i didn't know that the kernel was that important.
Could you sugest other rom's? It doesnt matter AOSP or any other

If you keep to the radio which I mentioned in the earlier post.. I do suggest that you try sense roms: LeeDroid's rom, stable and fantastic, as is AuraxTSense tbh, though I'm not keen on the way that rom looks and can drain the battery quite a bit. Oxygen is also a fantastic AOSP rom, as is Cyanogen. DeFrost is good also, similar to Cyanogen mind.
I have never tried any MIUI roms so I can't suggest.
If you're willing to look on other forums, I suggest looking at http://android.modaco.com/ and go to the Desire section and have a look at some of the Sense and NO-Sense roms on there, they are also good for lack of drain.
Stick to the radio I mentioned and you won't go wrong mate . Most kernels released with the roms have been made specifically for that rom and usually will be the best that there is already, so don't worry yourself about that too much.

Thank you very much my friend.

Anyone else got ideas for a rom with good battery?

[Q] The best custom ROM for HTC Desire?

Hello everyone!
I am new to android platform, and those days i was reading a lot about custom ROM's. Today i bought new HTC Desire, which comes with Android 2.1. I want to install some custom ROM, which is on Android 2.2. I readed a lot about openDesire, and i want to ask you, can you tell me which ROM is the best?
2.1. on my phone is fast, but i watched some videos on youtube, that is running 2.2, and it seems a lot faster than 2.1.
Btw i would like that custom ROM have HTC Sense.
Thanks!
First of all, OpenDesire doesn't have Sense. There really is no "best" rom. I like Pinky's rom, but others prefer LeeDroid or even different ones. There are a lot of roms with Sense and most are pretty good.
Modaco custom rom by paul new release worth a thought.
I'm flashing my first rom tonight, but unfortunately have to downgrade h boot first
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
For me it has to be Pirate Rum rom (download through Rom manager). It has virtually no bugs I can see and a great battery life. A very understated rom in my opinion.
I tried pirate rum last night, froyo sense version, and got stuck in a bootloop.. could be something I'm doing but ill try pink and let you know what I think

Can someone recommend me a rom, and give a proper guide to it: I want it to have HTC Sense, nice battery life, and that GPU+ hack, there's a thread about it.
Good battery life?
Forget it.
For the rest try Modaco custom rom r9

Try LeeDroid 2.2e, really good one. Very stable, themeable, see the thred here :

Leedroid is the way to go. If only ppl could learn to read for themselfs to form a personal opinion, we wouldn't have the same pointless topic in here every week.

The best ROM ever !!! Arrr! )
There is no BEST ROM, only the MOST COMFORTABLE ROM for yourself
Undisputed best ROM for HTC Desire is MiUi
Over last year or more, I have tried several custom ROMs for HTC Desire, from LeeDroid, Cyanogen, ownhere, NeoPhyte and few others, but since I came across MiUi, I have not looked for anything else because this just simply is the BEST ROM for HTC Desire.
Have a look at it for yourself -
miui-au.com
Strange that Oxygen has not been mentioned in this thread, it is a really great stable ROM (Battery consumption is good too).
I suggest you to give a try on it.
Note that for the moment the camera recording is not working (have a look at the first 2 posts in the oxygen thread).
I really like the Cyanogenmod 7 (build 25)
Works really good so far.

I find that Oxygen isn't that stable at all or fast and a little laggy. No idea if it's just my phone but it seems that way with they others as well. I am going to try it again tonight to see if it has been improved since the last time I used it.
MIUI-Au is an extremely fast rom, faster than the other Froyo roms. I guess selecting a rom for yourself you need to test them and see which you like.

all ginger roms will remain laggy until right drivers come in.
who ever says its not lagging is blind or is used to lag by using sense rom
I used to use miui, then went to lee droid, then back to miui. I think I have.found perfection in insert coin by baad newz. Best battery for a sense based rom.
Just remembered: used alex hd also for a while but there were way too many lags after a few days. The rom might be in its infancy then
I am using NeoPhyTe Mod (1.8) and this fits the best to my needs and my taste...

Which ROM is running on your Desire... Please Vote

...Since the last Poll started a long time ago, I thought it would be nice to see whats the most favorite Rom on the market at the moment.
So please vote for your Rom and maybe describe your choice...
CyanogenMod Nightly here as my sig says.
oxygen rom
i prefer AOSP roms
Still the wrong forum, has nothing to do with Development....
Oxygen ROM. It's best for me.

i would say it has to do with development in the aspect that we can see what roms are most used and that might help the developers deside what ppl want in there roms and maybe add some features that other roms have to there´s to get it more popular.
would also help new ppl decide what rom to take since they will prolly start with the one most ppl use couse that must be allround good and pretty general appealing also it gives a better oversight of what roms that there are.
I use Defrost now cause I like the AOSP Rom, but when I do use Sense, it's LeeDroid All the way..
Both are super stable, have almost all features people require, and if they dont, the dev's are usually able to include it within a couple releases. Also, both dev's spend alot of time interacting with the communities on the forums, which is a great sign of ANY rom!
My own Rom Based on the HTC Stock Froyo 2.10.405.2...
Many of us been using leedroid... I wish there's a leedroid version of non sense super fast stable rom... hope oxygen makes it perfect ^^ i love everything about non sense, but sense dialer is just owning...
I'm running LeeDroid 2.2f because for me, it's a good ratio of classic HTC Sense feeling to root and modding options. Or, to put it like this: It allows me to use all the good things about Sense without restricting me too much. Perfect for a user who, like me, is pretty new to Android.
My prerequisites are sense, UI close to stock, normal battery consumption, a2sd+ and UVOC.I have tried the following over the past couple of weeks:
Leedroid 2.2f- too much bloatware, monstrous battery consumption but the most reliable
dj droid 1.8 - closest to stock, has battery z mod, stable, doesn't have OC, a2sd doesn't function properly.
AuraXTSense 8.0- I'm sticking with this one, it is not bloated, a2sd+ works, fast. Clock with weather widget acts strange but working most of the time. I wouldn't call it unreliable but I managed to freeze it two times [email protected]
Cyanogen 6.0.2. - no sense.
Rom by ieftm - I was planning of sticking with this but it needs to get fixed. One time it installs properly, the other I'm in a boot loop. Changing between recoveries doesn't help here.
Hope this helps.

I`m running CM 6.0.2 because i like Stock Android and it suits me fine...
I use Leedroid 2.2 f as Outlook sync is needed. It's very stable, fast and frugal with SetCPU and Juice Defender configured.

I tried the rest but stuck to the best Leedroid wins hands down
Oxxxxxyyyyygggggeeeennnn FTW!
Really, it's a good AOSP ROM.
gotta be defrost, fast reliable, and always updates!
after having tried almost all roms here around now I'm still (more than a month) with Ox
latest beta (0.2.2) is very fast & stable
Running MyTouch 4G.. or Robociks other great roms. Works smooth and well.
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G using Tapatalk
I'm using LeeDroid, in part because it's close to what i was moving from and because i also sync with Outlook. I've not yet been brave enough to remove Sense completely, as i'm guessing the HTC sync will go with it.
originally i used sense roms and tried various others (had to go back to sense as aosp roms stuttered and were laggy in comparison for me with 7 full screens). now i go between open desire, oxygen and miui (but with zeam launcher).
really at this point, it's a toss up between the latter 2 - at least until gingerbread comes out

[Q] Cyanogen 7 vs. Android Revolution?

Hey guys, as the title really!
I've been a long term user of Android Revolution (flashed the day I got my Desire HD!) but I've recently switched to Cyanogen 7 to check it out, and I'm pretty impressed.
Mike1986 has just released 5.1.10 which looks awesome, I'm just wondering if anyone has any comparisons between the two ROMS in term of speed/battery life?
Thanks!
I have tried a few sense roms(including AR) and cyanogenmod pretty much beats them in every aspect(speed, battery life, general usability)...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
If you want the stock HTC Sense look and feel then go with Android Revolution. However if you want Android as Google intended then use Cyanogenmod.
Personally i liked both ROM's but i just couldn't give up Sense in the end.
I'm guessing they're both similar in terms of optimisation and performance tweaks? ARHD boasts a massive amount of tweaks in their thread but I can't seem to find much regarding C7.
AR is fast and the life span of the battery is quit good but the gps signal was very poor compare to CM7 is really good on detecting gps signal. So far was not much comment except the gps problem from the sense rom.
I really like CyanogenMod more even though I love some of the functions on Sense like the clock and usb connection features eg: internet passthrough.
I tried out Android Revolution HD but in the end I went back to CyanogenMod. ARHD is just not as fast because of Sense and it takes a lot longer to boot up too.
I am using ARHD and i am very impressed, by now i dont have any intention to change it

If you wanted to read over the tweaks list for CM7 you'd have to invest a couple of hours of your time! While ARHD has plenty of tweaks, these are essential modifications of the stock ROM. CM7 is built from the ground up and has low level code modifications from some very bright minds indeed. From kernel and driver tweaks to the ARM optimisations, CM7 is always a step ahead in this respect.
Regards.
I don't use rosie (or any of the sense widgets therefore) but do like some of the sense apps - people, dialer, calendar etc are all better than stock. Does cyanogen keep these?
I used ARHD no sense for a while (tested CM 6 and a few others) but since CM7 was released I will stick to it. Simply the best and fastest rom in my opinion.
Latest CM7 Nightly + LordMod UE UUV + 26.09.04.11 Radio seems to be the best combination for my DHD
In my opinion Android Revolution is better, because it looks better for me.

no, it does not, but you can still use ARHD with the no-sense mod which keeps those "sense" apps
the only thing i like about sense rom is the frienstream and the camera.
Thanks for the replies guys!
I've changed back to CM7 with a custom kernel (LorDModUE V4.0 BFSv404), I can't see me changing this for a while!
I really like ARHD no-Sense. So, if Cyanogen will be released and be cool than ARHD - maybe will be migrated..

You can't use the Sense camera app, you generally get the stock Android one instead. Some people prefer HTC's version, I don't use either so I can't really comment.

To be honest, ARHD and CM7 both are good ROM, but CM7 have one big issue that can't solve until now.. the wired headset not working...
Speed wise, both not much different.
ARHD look much better...

WHAT!?!?!?! LOL!!! Dude, headset is working perfectly! I'm using it almost every day. The thing is that you have to configure your phone properly. It can easily be messed up by music apps.
Shinobee and Dod6 - you can configure CM7 to make it look the way you want. If you put a little work into it, the UI may look waaay better that Sense and won't require that much from the phone.
Just flashed arhd the other day and thought it was very nice, I've moved onto virtuous unity 2.39 now and I must say that I find it much smoother and more responsive. I'm probably gonna stick with this for a while but I've decided that my next ROM must be non sense so add to broaden my horizons, likely to be cyanogen 7 as a first choice.

Which Rom?

Which rom would you say is the most stable and fasted for the htc desire?
there seems to be too much of a choice?
any specific ones?
It all comes down to personal preference in the end.
I always preferred the AuraxTSense ROMs from Neophyte but I do not like the newer Aurax ROMs so I have gone to Ginger Villain and find it to be just great.
I've tried every ROM except the MIUI ones and the Oxygen ROM. CM7 is quite good and more than enough people enjoy it's stability, but it is not for me I don't think. I like the way GV is a customised version of it.
I still prefer the old Sense ROMs but maybe it's because I just prefer the look of them. LeeDroid ROMs are incredibly stable and fast, so I suggest to start there. His LeeDroid 2.5.0 is a great build and if you feel like a Gingerbread experience, go for the GB version of LeeDroid instead.
I originally went with LeeDroid, so I feel it is a good start for others.
Hi, to narrow it down.
I would prefer a rom based on the original rom. But with mods so that it stands out, and it runs at the phones full ability?
thnks for your reply. much appreciated.
You mean ROM running on Froyo 2.2?
Then LeeDrOiD defintiely.

So much threads here with senseless question. There isn't any rom at all, it depends on your needs. Just try it out.
Best sense based rom is insert coin a2sd or cm7. both are stable, fast with sense 3.0. Go for it.

Cyanogenmod 7 (aka cm7) is an aosp rom and so not sense based.

CM7 is a very fast and stable ROM.. its not Sense based but I think its very close to it. Use the s2e app to overcome the internal storage issues inevitable with Desires and you'll not only have a fast stable ROM but you'll also have a lot more space for apps
PS. this is the first ROM I flashed, for a newcomer its a very easy starter

Flashed cm7 yesterday. Much slower as oxygen, imho.

I would highly recommend you trying a couple of the more well-established ROMs before making a final decision..
With things like this, advice and recommendation can only go so far ..
Like some of the replies above, some of the most popular ones are e.g.
CM7
LeeDroid
Oxygen
I run the ladder and am greatly satisfied.

I can recommend the AcesMod007 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113070
It's quite new, but it's a very stable and good Hybrid ROM of Sense 2.1/3.0 and gets many Updates. Besides it's very fast and saves Battery quite a lot.
Using Leedroid from its begining now on 3.0.8.2 Data++. No problems at all.
BR
MIUI roms have useful feature and very customizable. u should try them.
You will go through several roms until you find one that you like (I have had my desire since launch so i went through loads )
As far as speed goes i would say go for rom without Sense, CM7 for example.
I used Leedroid for a long time and can not fault it.
However in the end I settled for this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570
It does require a bit more fiddling than most roms, but as long as you read the guide/FAQ you should have no problems.
I have been running this rom for a couple of months and have had no problems at all.
I'm currently using CM7, but I really do miss aspects of Sense which I sacrificed in favour of improved battery life and speed. The browser on CM7 just isn't as pleasant to use, and I really do like and use various Sense widgets. I love the notification screen in CM7 with the wifi/BT/GPS options, but it just doesn't feel quite right to me. MIUI looks a bit much like an iOS for my tastes, though I may give it a shot at some point.
Currently trying to flash AceSRom007 and having my fair share of trials and tribulations with it. The actual look of the ROM is wonderful, but I may have to flash back to stock to try and get it to work.
on my desire I have installed sgbs rom...most reactive and stable
As was stated above, it comes down to personal preference mostly.
In terms of speed, I didn't notice big differences between the commonly used ROMs as a non-expert user.
I tried CM7, Oxygen, Insertcoin, Reflex, and now experimenting with MIUI, which fits me well for now
The best thing you can do, is try out a few of them for a few days, and choose that, which appeals the most to you.
You need to download and experiment. Oxygen is blazing fast AOSP rom, CM7 has more features and is slower than Oxygen, MIUI is the iPhone lookalike if you want anything like that, and there is this gargantuan selection of Sense roms which are slower but give you the Sense experience.
And when you say a "rom based on original rom", you mean with HTC Sense?
As AOSP you can try Oxygen and CM7. On the other hand if you want to stay in sense GUI try LeeDroid, sgbs and AceSmod007. I'm using the last of them and I'm very satisfied.

ROM recomendation

This might sound totally noob (and maybe it is, I'm not even sure this goes here), but I come from the Galaxy S, where I had barely half a dozen ICS ROMs to choose from, and I'm a little overwhelmed. I've counted 23 ROMs currently in development in the sticky thread from the Development subforum, and I don't know where to start.
I know, in the end, it comes down to taste, but I would really apreciate if some of you guys with more time to test roms, knowledge and experience would help me (and others) "filter" them.
Wich one do you use? Why?
Thanks for your precious time, and sorry if I screwed up somehow.
I'm currently using insertcoin 6.1, about to flash 6.2 and I have been very pleased with it so far. Very fast and stable. I've tried most of the others and kept coming back to insertcoin. You are right, it does come down to personal preference, so my advice is try as many as you have the patience to and pick the one you like.
I'd recommend insertcoin.
I'm a fan of LeeDroid, always have been back to his days on the Inspire. His roms are always stable and he typically makes a solid kernel with the rom, but due to the crappy source the kernel is taking a little longer
I'll try both when I get home.
Thank you very much!
If you want stock looking but fast go for ARHD.. but if you like customizable at boot try insertcoin... Leedroid I think is the more stable one because he also the one who make the kernel..
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I'm using the Revolution HD 6.0.0, together with my own tweaks (optimized RAM, more cache on the filesystem/sdcard, better ipv4/ipv6 traffic, better GPS,...) and the EternityProject kernel (v0.82) repacked for Revolution HD and the ROM Cleaner.
Works great with the ext4-tweak, battery-pack mod, advanced power menu (including 3-dot remover), brightness mod and Rosie-tweak.
You should try that killer combo!
VILLAINROM V2 + FAUX B3 KERNEL.
Very stable and smoothness, no crashes, no reboots, great battery life (22 hours aprox).
The only thing... this rom was not update to the lastest .11 version.
