[Q] HTC Sense "Friend Matches" - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
Anyone figured out a way to get rid of these stupid HTC Sense Friend Matches, bar the obvious deleting of my HTC Sense account? I get hundreds every day, most of them clearly made-up names, and it's doing my head in. Choosing "Ignore All" gets rid of them...for a while, and then more are suggested. Plus sometimes it takes a good five minutes to ignore all the requests which of course is very annoying.

I've only seen it once and the guy it was asking me to add doesnt even have a htc phone...

I usually tape "Ignore all".
Maybe that's HTC's facebook using your phone's contacts

Must be a more elegant way. Even matched ones come back a day later to say they need matching. System sucks, any suggestions?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Same here, it sucks.... why it matches with the person without any connection...

The only way I've found to reliably stop the stupid friend requests from popping up is to disable sync with HTC Sense.
This of course means you lose all the HTCSense.com goodies, but the site is so broken anyway it doesn't really make that much of a difference at the moment .....

EDIT:
HTC mail widget does not refresh the email list when a new email is received. The email application itself needs to be opened in order to refresh the email list.
I know some of them are either well known or maybe not 100% HTC's fault but I just want to let them know (or remind them) that these problems still exist.
Otherwise they won't fix anything without proper feedback.
I might have forgotten some of the issues so if someone has a problem and my Desire does suffer from it I can add it to my list.
When listening to the FM radio and a text message comes in, the radio is muted to allow the alert sound to play but the radio then remains muted (even if closed down and restarted). Only a soft reset fixes problem.
News widget not updating automatically.
I will try to reproduce the FM radio problem. If it really behaves this way I will add it to the list.
The HTC News widget will be added as well - I can confirm this already.
Thanks for the input so far. I am still compiling the list so feel free to add some more issues.

Will we? So far I haven't heard anything official about Froyo on Desire. It can take several months until HTC decides to release it.
Until then I would like to have these issues resolved as they are quite annoying and in some cases just plain stupid.
I know some of them may be irrelevant or not so important for others but for a device of such caliber I expected better and more reliable functionality.
And I would like to let HTC know about it...
Have you read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666332
You are posting a duplicated post, and the best you can do is add your problems to the other post since is sticky and have been here for a very long time now!
But if you want to send these "bugs" to HTC i'm with you - be sure to also add the ones that are on the post i referred since there are many more...
What about the pink screen ?:

I would like to know why HTC made so phones with sense can't connect to some bluetooth-devices f.ex. wii motes.
Whay don't HTC Come take a look at the XDA Forums thread.... If they took a look at all the problems that people are posting here, then there would be plenty of updates to come

Hi, there is/are xda threads about that already, which personally I am experiencing too; shut down takes 10-15 mins or even longer. Don't know if any app/s cause this matter or a bug in Desire, but as said this is a common concern.

* when I receive an sms from a web gateway, e.g. from vodafone, in the messaging app the phone puts in a thread with a facebook account which has no phone number (a blank one, created by the phone itself and that I can't seem to be able to delete)

hey man why don't you tell them to make an option to save the images taken by camera as dates instead of image# (number)
i copy my images into folders and everytime i take new images i need to rename them before moving them along or i will have filename conflict because my camera everytime starts from the same numbers...if the name was according to date they would be sorted as i want them and no problem moving them around too.
low res contact pics... a fix would be great

[Q] com.htc.socialnetwork.facebook force close when listing facebook contacts

I'm getting this really annoying problem for the last few days after a rom update. Whenever I access the Facebook directory in People (online directories tab), a message popup:
The application Facebook for HTC sense (process com.htc.socialnetwork.facebook) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force close.
I've tried everything below but nothing works:
1. Remove Facebook account and add it again
2. Clear data and cache of the app
3. Try flashing another ROM
4. Unroot to original ROM
I think the problem is with my Facebook friend list but I can't figure it out. Has anyone experience the same problem as mine? I have around 400 friends in Facebook.
Update1: If I choose "View" in the Menu, the number of Facebook contacts is correct. Some of the facebook contact have been synched with photo, but still I cannot access the Facebook contact list.
No reply. I guess I'm on my own to solve this.
I did a google search and this came up I am having the same problem did you find a solution?
I am in. Just notice this problem too
I found removing the fb for android (?), and doing a full sync and link contacts help.
Really sure for the linking contacts step. Since i notice that fc happens everytime i use it to those with multiple contact (same phone, mail, etc) but not yet linked.
Occassionally, my phone will say something like find multiple contact bla bla bla. I just choose link em all. Now i rarely get fc

My problem is similar... HTC Evo 4G (original EVO), (being an admitted NOOB to the android arena), I rooted my phone... then had to unroot, and return to Sprint after falling out of the car window, and being run over by my back tire, (damned dogs, jumping up, happy to see me!). Sprint's techs said that if I didn't have the triple layer Seidio Extended case on it, it would have crushed the phone completely). As it was, my screen was broken, and I had to have the phone un-rooted to get the service.
Got the phone back ($37 for the repairs, Thanks Sprint!), and re-rooted her, and back in business... everything worked... until I couldn't find the root manager, I had used last time, so started using Root Explorer. I bit more advanced, and less noob friendly, if you ask me... as I was deleting bloatware, I deleted both Facebook AND Facebook for htc sense... I got the sense ver. back, and synce with my contacts by setting up the account again... only thing is, I can't upload pics. I could before, just can't now.
Only thing different I can recall doing this time, over last, was getting rid of Friend stream and a few other things I didn't last time (football, nascar, for example). Admittedly, I deleted things that didn't look like they belonged with any apps I was keeping. So, who out there knows what files may be associated with uploading photos to FB, via htc sense? I have the actual app, as old as it may be... was this one ever updated from 2010? I'm not looking forward to re-flashing the phone, just to restore one issue... but I will if I have to.
Thanks, in advance!

Is it just me or can anyone else not access the manage contacts section ?
All i can do is remote lock, remote wipe & ring at full volume.
I thought there were meant to be more features
Does it looks like the image attached at my post?
I contacted HTC already 2 times about this, but they keep saying they're ''working on it''..
I hope they fix it soon, anyway.. i'm already developing my own htcsense.com-like app
Yeah, except Locate Phone isn't even working for me
I can confirm that it's the same for me too on HTCSense.com Greece.

Same here in Holland, can't do anything with htcsense.com
I have spoke to HTC about this and this is the (some what vague) reply i got:
Sorry for the inconvenience. But htc sense has had to go under further construction to get all of the features to work. As they are always modifying the website etc. it is stopping the phone finder and phone ringer features from working. It is also stopping customers creating and logging in on our website.
You may find the features to work and then stop again, as they are very intermittent.
So please keep trying to create an account and log in, as eventually it will work because not all of our customers are having issues at this moment in time.
Htc apologise for the inconvenience. And hope to get the website working and fully functional as soon as possible.
HTC can confirm that HTC Sense.com is currently in development for use in a near future. Specific device variants, including regional or national variations that will have access have not yet been confirmed. Once more detailed information is available on the release date and which of the devices will use this feature then a more formal announcement will be made. We recommend following us in Twitter for instant notifications at http://twitter.com/htc_eu

It seems like htcsense.com is STILL not working properly. I only see the dashboard and can locate my phone and make it ring, but nothing else is there. You may have several hours after your registration for even the dashboard to show up. Also try a different browser - in the beginning the site didn't work in my Firefox for some reason, but it worked in Chrome - go figure
Still isn't working for me.
I tried to remotely lock my phone as a test, it didn't lock but now the website says my phone is locked
I tried using HTCSense.com yesterday, it was my first time since december. I cannot believe that the software is still broken. It is even more broken than it was on december.

It works for me, but I can only use the dashboard (no contacts, footprints, whatever). Oh and the lock phone option takes a while to kick in.
Woao. The locate phone actually worked, no more Nigeria for meh! It was off for only like 50m. I turned on Locations while it was scanning for my phone, dunno if it worked just because of that.
i think all the things you can do on your phone.i don't think htcsense.com is very useful, but on your phone it can backup your settings and contacts. This is useful.

[Q] Sync options - HTC Sense > HTC Sense

Can anyone confirm what exactly is involved in the HTC Sense sync option? I don't mean the HTC Sense basic option but the actual HTC Sense option inside that, the one that is set to (Push) for updates by default. The reason I'm asking is that I took my DHD off charge earlier today and at just over 12 hours off charge it was hanging around 40% battery. Some might say that's normal but for me it isn't and I usually get between 1 and 1 1/2 days between charges.
I noticed that the sync icon was on quite a lot any time I picked the phone up to check something and after deciding it was too much I looked and it was the HTC Sense sync item every time. I've disabled it now but since I'm not sure what exactly it contains I don't know what I'm losing by doing this.

Probably sync HTCsense.com.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
That's what I thought originally but in the same area is an "HTC Hub" sync option and all things related to HTC Sense ....... hang on, brain thinking... HTC Hub is for all downloadable items, HTC Sense might point to contacts, messages etc synchronising between the phone and the website. That would explain why it's trying to sync so often as they site is still very unreliable despite what they said about trying to fix it.
I'd still like to know if anyone has a definitive answer but for now this seems about as reasonable as any other idea.

Where is the outrage with HTC RE: Yelp Ads?

Maybe a week ago I noticed that my lock screen started showing yelp advertisements for lunch and dinner.... I searched and found this ONE thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/ad-lockscreen-t3104580)
After a little more research it seems HTC has made a deal with Yelp and is talking to others about advertising on YOUR phone screen. Did I misunderstand this? I don't see any outrage and I'm wondering why? Did I get it wrong, or have we just gotten used to being abused by corporations for their own gain that we don't even notice any more?
So after a recent update HTC decided to start advertising on my lock screen... sure, right now I can still disable the advertising on the lock screen. but I cant remove yelp from my blink-feed. My blink-feed is advertising stuff I don't want and I cant disable it!!! Again.. Maybe I missed something?? I cant believe after paying >$650 for a flagship phone that people are not freaking out over this. Nowhere in the settings can I find an option to remove Yelp from my blink-feed.
So, Am I part of some Beta test.. and the rest of you don't have this issue?
Did I miss some "off" switch to disable the ads?
Are the rest of you so used to having content shoved in your face that you don't even notice?
Do you just not care?
At least Amazon has the decency to give you a discounted price on a device with "Special offers"
Whats the deal... I'd really like to know. Someone please tell me I have it all wrong.
**EDIT** Turning off "HTC Location Services" seems to stop Yelp for now.
edit, didn't read haha. Try contacting them and see what they say about you being unable to remove it
I don't have Yelp in my blinkfeeed nor anywhere on my phone, so no ads on my lock screen. Do you have a carrier branded M9 and if so, which carrier?

This is not advertising. I believe you are referring to the meal time recommendations that pop up on the lock screen. Go to Blinkfeed settings and find "Notification on lockscreen", click that and uncheck "Meal time bundle" (which shows you meal recommendations nearby). There are people that find it an interesting feature, for those that don't, just disable it.

Thanks for the heads up.. It's late and I did miss that. I'm not sure, I haven't seen that problem.
*deleted*
I'm pretty pissed about it. Mostly because there was no information from HTC about it. They just started showing up on my wife's M8 lock screen, and of course there was nothing in the lock screen settings about it, and as this was on "zero day", nothing showed up on Google. So I had no clue where this stuff was coming from, and it smelled like malware. Wasn't till the next day that search results came up, pointing to Blinkfeed as the culprit.
I suspect this is just the start of a movement toward "monetizing" the lock screen, as it's been blissfully free of ads till now, and is prime real estate for covering in ads to get in our face even if we don't unlock the damn phone.

Weather people find it useful or not is irrelevant. I purchased a phone with certain features and expectations, and you cant just force this type of intrusive advertising in my face to make a few bucks. I didn't sign up for that. It's one thing to sell the device like that from day one (I.E Kindle Fire). Then at least I could have made an informed decision to be advertised to or not. . I wouldn't, for example, complain about the ads on Facebook. They were always there. (And Facebook didn't charge me $650)
I'm all for new features.. and lots of people love yelp. This is not a bad OPTION, but this should have been an OPT in option. It shouldn't be an OPT out option, and it most certainly under any circumstances should not be a forced non-option.
I CAN turn off the lock screen stuff. (I.E mealtime bundle) But I don't see an option to remove Yelp from my blinkfeed. Sometimes when I remove a source from blinkfeed, the old posts stay until they get pushed off with new content.. I assumed this would be the same, but it was not. I kept getting yelp items in my blinkfeed telling me to try this or that restaurant.
I have the Developer edition M9. I'm running ARHD.
This is 100% with a doubt advertising. I dont have yelp installed, I've never had Yelp installed. I dont use yelp. HTC signed a deal with yelp, and rumors and leaked HTC images indicate there will be more coming.
So I see at least some of you don't have this issue?
Perhaps I'll try to delete data for blink-feed. Maybe disabling mealtime bundle didn't take? (even though the lock screen bit went away)
I also found that searching Google today indicated many more users complaining about Yelp in the blinkfeed than last week.
Also some more info here: http://blog.gsmarena.com/leaked-doc-reveals-htc-planning-introducing-ads-blinkfeed/
Not only that, but unless you live in a major metro area Yelp is totally useless. There are businesses that have been closed for over a year that are getting recommended to me. Oh, and last week I got this recommendation for lunch: http://i.imgur.com/XIJjSZt.jpg Yea, nice restaurant.

Turn off HTC location Services.
I must have left this on. I tried this and cleared my blinkfeed data. I have been yelp free ever since.
This is a ridiculous fix... and a half measure work around. I'm guessing there is no yelp because HTC doesn't know where you are. What happens when they decide to advertize things that don't require a precise location?

Then you would have to turn off all notifications from Sense Home. This solution here makes sense because I never signed onto HTC Location services when I first setup the phone. However, I kept getting notifications to complete this, so since I also don't use the Home widget, I just went and turned off all notifications for Home, Settings> Sounds & notifications> App notifications> Sense Home> turn on Block. I only use Facebook in Blinkfeed and it still updates itself.
I have to agree regarding "Where is the outrage?" Everyone I know with an HTC One M(x) is outraged about the yelp ads on Blinkfeed, yet the internet is surprisingly quiet on the issue. Even at XDA, where I would expect to see some serious backlash, there is very little mention of it. Yes, we can remove them from our lockscreens, but it still frustrates me to see Yelp ads on Blinkfeed. I didnt opt-in for this, I payed for my phone, I'm am not under contract, and I pay for my cell service. I have owned strictly HTC phones since the original EVO, but if this doesnt go away, I will be switching to another manufacturer. I will not pay full price for a phone and my service and then have forced ads on my home screen. WTF are they thinking? And more importantly, where is the backlash from the owner community???
How about finding the server ip it gets it's info from and block it in the host file?
Not the best method, but it should theoretically work.
My phone just started doing this TODAY, and when I went to blinkfeed -> 3 dots -> settings, I see that "Notification on lockscreen" is greyed out!
Any ideas?
I too have the same issue. Quite irritating. If I learn anything, I will post here. Glad I am not the only one experiencing this, but sad we have to experience this.

I suspect AdAway should take care of this. I have it running and have never seen one of these.
I just had a chat with HTC. Press and hold on the Yelp tiles, then select remove. Blinkfeed supposedly will learn that you do not want yelp. :good:
Good Luck Everyone!
Yes, I confirm that seems to work. Getting those ads less and less. Still HTC should offer a normal option to turn that off. Maybe they will learn too if turnover drops.
You missed an off switch.
Run the "setup" app again. Turn off the "give my precise location blah blah blah" and the other one. Now you won't get location based ads at all.
