[Q] Strange behavior of System Update - Defy General

Hello,
I own Defy from week. Many times I tried to check via System Update in Settings if there is any update for my phone. After pressing "System updates"i can see info "Checking for available updates. Please wait..." and few seconds later window pop-up saying "Checking for updates is currently not available. Try again later"
For me it sounds like there is problem for mobile to connect with server with updates. Do you experience anything like this? If my firmware is up-to-date I would expect little bit different info.
Connection is established via WIFI, I tried check updates via GSM - the same effect.
Phone soft is not branded, no simlock, works in Polish Orange
Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions
BTW
Is there any other way to perform update check? It seems not possible from PC but maybe I missed something.

I agree, the answer isn't crystal clear, anyway I don't think there is any available update yet, not until android 2.2

Thanks for answer. I'm not hoping to get Froyo quickly, rather update that will add missing Advanced Settings in camera options I mentioned in another post.
Regards

Yes, I've seen the other post and I must admit that I'm curious too about the missing camera settings.

"Checking for updates is currently not available. Try again later" = Motorola's OTA server is down?

I'm happy that I'm not the only one ;] In meantime I reset to factory settings to check if this will solve missing Advanced Settings in camera menu and System updates but it didn't help.

HELP

Hi I just switched from att pure to the slide and I've been using xda for quite a while but I noticed in the users manuel it says u can ota update but when I go to where it says there is bno update option
When updates are available they will be pushed to your phone automatically, and you will receive a notification in the tray to update. (or a quick launch box will pop up asking "ok")
In the past, I have woken up to a tasty donut update, and thats what I expect for froyo. So just wait patiently.
The old OS had an option under settings>about phone>check for updates. But you will always get the push first, it is as instant as email. I guess its fun to check every day and verify no update is available, but its not necessary. (I used to do it on my Nexus One constantly)

[Q] I relocked and RUU'd - now search is faulty and Google Now disappeared

Hi all, I've been playing around with custom ROMs on my One X for about a year and a half but was recently getting tired of putting up with stability issues and decided I wanted to return the phone to stock.
I relocked the phone with ADB, then ran the appropriate RUU for my CID.
The procedure worked fine and I managed to download the latest HTC stock update without any drama, except for one annoying issue.
The search function stalls every time I use the toolbar - the whole screen goes blank white except for the little 'working' logo, occasionally it connects to Google and responds to my search terms. Also I cannot find any trace of Google Now in the software, it has vanished from the phone. No cards appear on the search page and there is no reference to it in any settings menus.
What do you think the root cause could be? What are my options for fixing it?
Thanks

it is now called google search
Thanks for the reply but whatever it's called it isn't working properly.
I'm getting error messages saying "server access failure" and there are zero cards or location-based info being presented. I cannot find any reference to cards within the settings either. Would a factory reset work? Or is there someway of resetting or re-installing the search apk?

I don't use it actually but I've just tried it for you and seems to be working fine, loading up up relevant weather and location information.
Yes you could try a factory reset or try uninstalling it from the play store, but don't forget you are looking for google search, and not google now.
Press thanks if I helped you. Sent via XDA Premium 4
Thanks man, clearing the data out of the Google Search app seemed to reset it. Everything working fine now..

[Q] Camera app missing capture modes after Lollipop update

Hi,
Recently updated my stock ROM for M8 to the Lollipop update.
I am in the UK, on EE. Software version is 4.19.61.2.
After a few days I was reading about HTC camera improvements online and thought I would check the camera app and see if I noticed any updates.
This was when I noticed that the 'Capture' menu which normally contains quite a few options, now only shows 'Camera', 'Zoe Camera' and '360 Panaroma'.
I read another feed where someone had similar problem, the advice given was, try enabling blinkfeed, update from Play, check no custom launchers interfering with camera, factory reset.
So, I enabled Blinkfeed again and I have no custom launchers installed. This did not make any difference. I checked on Play and the app is the most up to date version. So I gave in and did a factory reset from HBoot. Turned on and camera still the same.
Anyone have any ideas on what else I could do?
Many thanks for any replies!
Nobody at all experienced this?
I'm really stuck for what to do, is there any point contacting HTC?

Issues when updating N975U1 firmware via Smart Switch PC, Please help

Hi everyone,
Recently, I find an issue when using Smart Switch PC to update firmware of my N975U1. Specifically, after I click "update" and click two "Confirm" (or equivalently like "Agree"), the "Software Downloading" window does not pop up and the software acts like it is back to the main screen of the software. I have never rooted my Note10+ and the OTA function on the phone works fine. Further, the pre-download function can download the latest firmware of the phone but the updating window still refuse to pop up.
In addition, I also have a S10+, G975U1, which has no issue when updating its firmware. I have contacted Samsung Support, but they seems to have no idea about this issue temporarily and still trying to figure out solution through the log.
If someone knows how to solve this issue, please let me know. Thank you!
Just an idea... Do you have anti-virus or malware program turned on that could be preventing that pop-up from appearing? If so, maybe temporarily turn it off.

Thank you for good thoughts, but I think it is irrelevant because I have tried on multiple PC/laptops. On all of them, my S10+ works fine without any issues, but when I plugged in Note10+, the firmware downloading\updating window is not ignited at all (I mean literally on all devices....). Other than firmware update, other functions of Smart Switch PC, e.g. Backup, Restoration, Sync, works well on both S10+ and Note10+. Therefore, I have compeletely no idea why the "Updating" window does not pop up when I plugged in Note10+ and whether it is a bug on the phone or on the Smart Switch PC or what else. (BTW, I have already done a factory reset on Note10+)
So... if someone knows how to fix, please let me know. Thanks!

Question Carrier Hub Processing Requests - Constant Notification Since Update

I just updated to the new T-mobile October update today and ever since then, I have a constant notification from "Carrier Hub" that says "Processing requests" and "MCM Client requests are processing...". My research shows this is a Sprint app, and I am a Sprint customer, but this SIM is a T-mobile SIM because it is all becoming T-mobile and the Sprint network is being shut down in January. It won't allow me to uninstall the app. Before the update, I would occasionally see the notification for a second or two before it went away, but now this is constant. It can't be swiped away. I can tell it to not give notifications, but since it can't be found in Settings or apps, in the future I won't be able to undo that setting. It seems to say it isn't using up battery, thankfully, but I don't know why it isn't processing whatever requests. Seems like there have been these issues with it for over a year on others' phones.
Anyone else have this issue after the new update? Anyone know how to fix it? (A factory reset is NOT an option.)

I'm on T-Mobile and have the same issue. I disabled the carrier hub service notification and that stopped the notification from appearing. I am able to access the app when I enable "show system apps" from the filter and sort menu of the apps menu under settings.

Thank you!! I just disabled the notification. Thankfully, it still says it has used 0% battery after running for 6 hrs. 45 min., so it doesn't affect battery life somehow, but I don't know if affects our signal or what.

Hopefully it gets sorted out with the next update. I'm not going to worry about it for now as it doesn't seem to be affecting anything. Just happy to get rid of the annoying notification.
I was able to turn it off in the developer options last night and this morning it came on again. What gives?

I turned it off as described in my previous post and it has not returned. Not sure why the developer options route did not work but might want to give it a try and see if it sticks. Hopefully a future firmware update or service provider configuration update fixes it.
I went into the apps and turned it off. Hopefully it sticks. Thanks
Mine normally clears after I let it sit for a couple hours and then reboot.
I don't want to just turn off the notification because then it'll be doing something but I just won't see it. I want it to just stop running. I tried to force stop and that worked for about a day then it came back. Anyone got any updates on this yet?
No update yet. I'm leaving the service notification off until the next update, then I'll turn it back on and see if the issue has been resolved.

I am fine with turning the notification off because it doesn't drain the battery, but maybe you can try downloading the T-mobile version of the app from the Play Store and see if it works and fixes the problem?
