Can you stack multiple kernels? I was curious because I am currently running the asop kernel and also wanted to try kings kernel. I am course going to give it a couple of days on my current. There are some things in kings that are not in asop.
Lastly, how do I go about removing a kernel? I tried doing a search on these but I feel like I am not wording my search right because the results that came up were not even close.

no, you can only use one kernel at a time, and to remove a kernel you have to flash another one! im running kings #9 right now...
I was under the impression that#9 does not work with cm6 though. Thanks btw.

It doesn't. I think King only has one kernel that works on CM6 as of right now.

what are u using?
Havent ever used CM7, but I've been on CM6 for the last week and love it... better speed than stock but battery life has been unchanged... I'm pretty sure that CM7 is inderstood to be somewhat unstable... hence the nightly builds, so if you want to be able to leave it be for a while with little chance of probs then CM6 is prolly the way to go... If nothin else, flash CM7 and see how it goes.... you can always switch if you're getting FC's or something that you need isnt working..... good luck
I use google maps for navigation. Or did you mean rom? I don't use either anymore. I refuse to use any cm version.
I'm running CM7 now, never 6. It really boils down if you want stability, or experimental. I haven't had any problems with CM7 [except build 16 which a lot of people did] but its up to 18 now and I have no problems. CM6 is stable so its set. You can always try CM7 and go back to a backup of CM6 if you don't like it.
Hi Guys,
I have had a HTC Desire since it 1st launched and love it. I am always changing ROMs and testing new features but I now want a daily driver for a while. I am currently using CM7 Nightly Roms because I have found they are very stable and have good battery life but I do miss Sense.
I like the DHD ROMs and was wondering what is the best DHD ROM to use and what radio do you use with it.
Thanks in advance
InsertCoin/RCSMixHD/ReflexTSense - it depends on the kernel.
I am using RCSMix HD, with coutt's latest 925mv kernel and get a very good battery life.

I don't know much about the kernels do you just flash them on top of a ROM and what are the best kernels?
Yes, you flash them via recovery, just like a ROM.
Use search function in the Desire Android Developement section to learn about the kernels.
Well...
The main part which determine the battery life is the kernel.
But as usual that is not everything.
Apps synchronizing, proc freq settings, live wallpaper, etc. have also their influences to the battery life.
BTW:
I am using InsertCoin (Baadnewz) 1.8f with Lee's kernel. Everything is fast, stable and has a good battery life here.
I have been using InsertCoin since 1.4 till 1.8h (bck to 1.8f)...for me 1.8f is the masterpiece of all releases since then.
I have tried coutt's kernel...no noticeable difference seen for the battery life.
I'm not picky here, I just want a stable ROM with 4G and the main stuff working. I just ask that for something with good battery life. I'm currently using Baked Snacks 1.9 and it drains crazy fast.
On a side note, hopefully the installation is easy. Are all the new ROM's requiring you to wipe the SD card, format, etc? What happened to just installing the zip?
I recommend CM7. Use the 7.0.1 stable version.
See my post here for flashing > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13822297&postcount=2

My only issue with CM7 is the voicemail not working. I know you can use Google Voice, but i've seen a lot of people not liking that either. Any idea about that?

The voice mail does work:
-on a sense rom, verify the app works
-backup the app and data with titanium backup
-flash back to CM7
-restore app and data with titanium backup
I use google voice, but I personally like that.
I'll give it a try then! Any ideas on kernel? Stick with stock or is there a recommended one for battery life?
Myns warm 2.2 rls 5 has it all and its stable. CM7 has given some problems. They can be worked out but be prepared.

For CM7, Timatt kernel...3.3.7 or 4.02 are the best. DO NOT USE 4.0.0, as it broke cameras left and right.
What's this google apps addon? Where do I get that?
I like
both of Virus ROMS.. the GengerSense and Revolution .. i have had good luck with both

There > http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/
And its the google apps, like market, ect that you need.
Destroyer v2 rom or end of days
it's awsome with transitions battery life suks but wwith a custom kernel it's badass
and if u want great battery life flash a kernel for a aosp rom try tiamat's 4.0.2 sbc or savaged zen
for a sense based rom try netarchy oh and dude if u like ur rom but hate battery life u can just flash a kernel
It could be something other than the rom. Have you tried calibrating your battery? If you're in a crappy coverage area, flashing a new rom won't help (much). Also be sure to turn off your radios when not in use - 3g/4g, wifi, gps, bluetooth, etc. When I can, I use wifi. It saves a ton of battery over 3g/4g and it's always faster... at least for me.
But I'd still flash a new rom, just for fun

try the original destoryer rom( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988684&highlight=destroyer ) along with tiamats 3.3.8 or tiamats 3.3.8 with sbc depending if you like sbc or not ( http://www.tiamat-aosp.com/downloads.php/ ). i get about 14-20 hours of moderate to heavy use.
do cm7 for sure.
both of the destroyers are based on cm7, and both are sadly out of date. end of days is the newer version of destroyer, and is more in date, but still flash cm7 nightly.
i would wait until the next nightly comes out. that'll have fixed mms. or just flash stable 7.0.3.1.
either way tiamat 4.0.2 is the bomb.
agreed... cm7 nightlies with tiamat 4.0.2 is killer
flashing decks gingerbread as we speak...
Check out Koni's Elite series 3...... everything works and it is the fastest sense room available....... it is flawless and does not get enough credit.....everyone should check this out......i have tried all of them and this is by far the best.....imho

I use MikFroYo v4.6 it runs and feels like stock. I have never found a problem with his roms.
AOSP: SalvageMod, Deck's Gingerbread, CyanogenMod
Sense: Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo, MikFroyo, AvaFroyo, Azrael, Fresh
End of Days ! (click on my siggy and get EOD v1)
it is based on recent cm7 (everything works)
and...
ive found a way to tweak the colors and make it look super smooth!!
but.....
for battery life you can get that with ANY rom. just need to do a little more homework on whats going on with your phones curent congifuration.
Virusrom Gingersense is awesome. Lockscreen and tabs in notification and sweet ass sweet. Long as you use stock kernal everything works. Oh and Virus gives props to the Cyanogen guys for the elements in his rom. Bunch of pretty stuff. Battery life is phenomenal also. Lost 3% idle overnight. I'm happy happy.

If you want the latest stock kernel go here.
For custom kernels you have ca1ne's Underworld & Classic for sense roms and Atyoung's Mason for AOSP & ICS roms.
You just have to try and see which one works best for you.
Just go through the links evil posted. Those will satisfy all your needs.

And don't base anything on performance until you've run a kernel for a few days to let it settle in
