You might be better off posting your question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895208
I had the same issue when I tried using unrevoked. When prompted for permission to look for a newer version of the adb software click not at this time and then click next/ ok to proceed with the install. Once the adb software is installed unrevoked should detect your phone and you should be able to continue.
All rite thank you ill do that

Have you installed the proper drivers? Is USB debugging turned on?
Yea I followed the steps exactly.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You did install the Hboot drivers correct? And uninstalled doubletwist or Htc Sync.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/lib/e...unrevoked.com/recovery/android-usb-driver.zip
Yea I installed the drivers. Htc sync and double twist were never installed.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm pretty sure you need to install htc sync first and then uninstall it to get the driver so your comp actually sees the phone. Try doing that.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ok I'll try that

When you connect your phone via usb cable and you put in debugging mode....you should see your phone in device manger of Windows.
Debugging mode is a special setting. It's not the same as sync mode. I only say this to re clarify. This process should be straight forward.

Yea there really us no messing up the Unrevoked method. ITS got to be the driver. I would suggest you make sure you see your phone in device manager first.... can you post the link for the method you are using
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Thanks playa your idea about the driver helped me fix this. I needed to install the drivers two times once in hboot usb mode and once after I rebooted the phone.

The Q&A Forum is more suited for this.
Thread moved to Q&A.
How about you give us some details about your phone and what you have tried? What software version are you running? Clearly you haven't tried every method because the Evo is rootable.

Those are the drivers you need
Not letting me post hyperlinks so just copy paste into browser.
you need to turn usb debugging on and ensure u run the program as administrator
1. Before you do anything, uninstall htc-sync from your pc but do not uninstall the driver.
2. Install the H-boot driver from unrevoked site. (run the installation as administrator)
3. Enable usb debugging mode on your Desire.
4. Connect the Desire to your PC.
5. Run unrevoked and wait untill finish.
6. After rooting is done, you can have your HTC-Sync back if you want it.

If there is no icon you need to flash the Gapps.
There's no apps affiliated will google whatsoever. I flahed the cyanogen mod 7 successfully.
Could you please explain what gapps are and where I can find them and how to install thanks in advance

so i just went threw and attempted to room my evo 4g with unrevoked says failed due to to new of firmware? need help please
I'm guessing that you have a newer or updated evo 4g that is running Gingerbread 2.3.3. Unrevoked won't get you rooted. You need to use Revolutionary to root. There are many threads on how to do it. It's very easy and only takes 5 minutes.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
ok thanks basicly same process?
Idk I've never used Unrevoked. All you do is go to their website, put in your phones serial number to get a beta Key. Install their program, extract their program, plug your phone in to computer, run the program, type in the beta Key exactly as it is, and let it do its thing and bam you're rooted.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Make sure you have debugging checked
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Also makes sure your phone has a good charge on the battery. Rooting through Revolutionary is very simple but find a thread that explains it and follow those steps exactly.
Sent from my Decked Out HTC EVO with Tapatalk!
I just used the revolutionary.io method
It is very simple if you just follow the tutorial
