everything went fine until i had to install the drivers for the phone. when i try to install them it tells me windows was unable to install my device. any help would kick butt, im trying to learn all this stuff, been a while since ive used code.
either install pdanet.exe(for your comp) or htc sync

I've been trying to root my phone with no luck. I used the un revoked method that they have at un lock r but it didn't detect my phone. I've tried on both windows and ubuntu better will detect my phone.
I was going someone could provide some help or an alternative method to root.

Have you installed the proper drivers? Is USB debugging turned on?
Yea I followed the steps exactly.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You did install the Hboot drivers correct? And uninstalled doubletwist or Htc Sync.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/lib/e...unrevoked.com/recovery/android-usb-driver.zip
Yea I installed the drivers. Htc sync and double twist were never installed.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm pretty sure you need to install htc sync first and then uninstall it to get the driver so your comp actually sees the phone. Try doing that.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Ok I'll try that

When you connect your phone via usb cable and you put in debugging mode....you should see your phone in device manger of Windows.
Debugging mode is a special setting. It's not the same as sync mode. I only say this to re clarify. This process should be straight forward.

Yea there really us no messing up the Unrevoked method. ITS got to be the driver. I would suggest you make sure you see your phone in device manager first.... can you post the link for the method you are using

Thanks playa your idea about the driver helped me fix this. I needed to install the drivers two times once in hboot usb mode and once after I rebooted the phone.

You might be better off posting your question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895208
I had the same issue when I tried using unrevoked. When prompted for permission to look for a newer version of the adb software click not at this time and then click next/ ok to proceed with the install. Once the adb software is installed unrevoked should detect your phone and you should be able to continue.
All rite thank you ill do that

Can I unroot it if I root it??
Sent from my HTC EVO using XDA App
Yes, search & Google are your friend
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yea..you flash the S-ON tool, then run an RUU.
OK if I ask a question in the Q&A I think should get a answer not telling me to go to Google I don't think that the question I ask

And where do i get that??
Sent from my HTC EVO using XDA App
I heard if you uninstall and reboot the phone it unroots it or no??

S-ON tool. Flash BEFORE you run the RUU.
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
Download the 3.70 RUU
And they will say use google, cuz it will turn up the answers.

That only happens if you use that z4root thing, which gives you a temporary root, and lost upon rebooting.

No problem man.
Hey I used the Z4root on the evo but it doesn't work
Sent from my HTC EVO using XDA App
If it didn't work, I personally can't advise you because I've never used it. I think it more beneficial to go for the solid root. Unrooting for whatever reason is easy to do.
OK if I root my phone with with unrEVOked and Its update come out will I have to unroot my phone or can i just update it like regular and it will just unroot the phone??
Sent from my HTC EVO using XDA App
If you root your phone with unrevoked, you'll be fine. You don't have to re-run it when a new version of unrevoked comes out. If there is an update for your rom, you just flash it in recovery.
I flash my boot.img files using command prompt, and my fastboot folder is stored on my C drive. I got a new computer and am trashing the old one soon. Can I just copy the entire fastboot folder onto the new computer, C drive, and continue as before? I'd initially got the fastboot folder while rooting, but don't remember where I got it from. Both my old and new computers run on Windows 7, if that helps.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Thanks a lot for getting back to me. But *noob alert* what did you mean by installing the drivers again? Do you mean the ones from htcdev? Can you point me somewhere the steps might be? Or if you've seen this query before, just let me know. I searched this forum once, but will check again if you've seen someone else ask this question before. Thanks again!

Copy fastboot folder to a usb and copy to new computer.
Fastest way to install drivers is to install the HTC sync for the one x

Hey guys I'm on a stock 4.2.2 Verizon htc one and every time I run rumrunner I get a fatal error saying download updated package. Iknow I have downloaded the right one and I have all the prerequisites required idk why it's not working. Also I don't have the unlocked version. Am I screwed for getting new roms and even rooting? As of right now I'm not rooted I'm completely stock. I'd love to be steered in the right direction thanks guys

Rum runner was saying "fatal : please download updated package" but I realized 1) I wasn't using HTC cord that came with phone 2) I didn't have antivirus turned off. I only had firewall turned off (apparently you need both) 3) I was running Soju.exe off of my desktop which was a no go so I extracted rum runner to a folder on my desktop and ran as administrator then I was all set. After I flashed twrp through adb then acquired root and etc etc

I will try the above when I get home tonight. Glad you were able to make it work. Now if you were to make a video showing how to do this to install CM11 on stock 4.4.2 that would make a lot of people really happy
It doesn't work on 4.4.2 from what I've heard I'm not 100% sure though
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app
No it does not work on 4.4.2 nor does firewater. You will have to wait till august when the new exploit will be released for 4.4.2.
