Is this possible in the uk? Ideally from the same number sending over data connection?
Do a search for whatsapp in the market. Only works if the other person also has it.

Nah that won't work as my friends don't have smart phones full stop.

Hey guys, so I hate it that my desire splits my texts up and sends them in chunks. Is there anything I can do to change that? Would a 3rd party sms app fix that?

It's how the SMS standard is, 140 characters per SMS (I think - like Twitter)...it's how the network handles the data, not the app itself
Strange because when I had my iPhone, it would send texts all together, not broken up.

Looking for a sms/mms messaging app that uses my data plan instead of my text plan. Search with no luck. Anyone got anything......
That would just be email right?
Otherwise, SMS is always going to come in/send out via your text plan
I guess that would fall into email. Guess I'm looking for more of a chat based app. comes down to i would like to send and recieve messages with out a number trace.

What about "whatsapp messenger".. it looks like it might do the trick.

Kik messenger... similar to BBM....
The problem with most apps that say they are SMS replacements that use your data plan is that they are actually some type of IM program which would require the person you are trying to reach be using it as well.
I'd recommend Google Voice as it would be using the data plan on your end, but be sending a true SMS so the recipient sees it as an SMS. If they want to pay for a text messaging plan, that's their choice.
Certain IM clients like Yahoo IM can send SMS messages, but I don't think it's as clean, it's just easier for the recipient when they see a SMS coming from an actual phone number.
In any case, you'd end up having problems if you like to send pics via MMS. Google Voice does not support MMS (people have been requesting it for a while, I only hope it's on their roadmap).
Did'nt Go sms have this as a paid option?
Get Textfree...when u make account, it gives you number that shows up when u text somebody, and it uses data...I used it a lot on my ipod touch, not so much on my dinc, but still does the job

Live profile. It is supposed to work like blackberry messenger but you can use it cross platform (android, iPhone, BB). Downside is that tonuse it, both you and the person you are trying to reach need to have it installed.
Check it out: http://www.liveprofile.com/

You can text with google voice. Its what I use and I'm about to drop texting off my plan. It uses data. Google voice ftw.
Google talk!

Another one here for Google voice. I have about a years worth of messages archived too
Dose anyone know an app that will steal-prof my HOX ? I was using HTCSense.com with Desire HD but now it's not available anymore . I was thinking about something like send a SMS with a specific password the will lock the phone , display my contact info , turn GPS and Mobile Network/WiFi ON and delete my important data like contacts , photos , SMS , Accounts and the rest !
Avast Mobile allows you to do most of those sort of things by SMS
I use the paid version of Kaspersky. Apart from the anti-stealing features, it has excellent call blocking features. Of course, anti-virus is present.

Seekdroid or Preyproject
I'm currently using Cerberus, I'm sure it does all you want.

The app "where is my droid" does it aswell, including notification of a simcard change on theft

Avast free version do all things . Lock phone through sms , it will send sms and location on sim change.

Cerburus does alot of things like take pictures using the front facing camera, when the person who may have stole the phone trys to unlock it! Has huge list of features

Cerberus +1
One more vote for cerberus. I lost my hox in a cab and found it 40minutes after.
About call blocker, i think sense has this by default, or it is a feature of ARHD, because i see that option in mine.
Another vote for Cerberus, couldn't recommend it enough!
It's very well priced and it can work with multiple devices.
Assuming the phone is reset to factory defaults before changing sim etc...it can't be tracked?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
If someone what's to steal your phone they will. No app will make it steal proof. Why don't you just encrypt it if your worried about the data.

Install Cerberus as a system app. Only way they can stop it being tracked is a full wipe and flashing a new rom. Are phone thieves that smart/knowledgeable?
technically you cant "steal proof" a phone, only track it down after its been stolen...
Just seen this thread and downloaded Cerberus straight away. What an amazing app. So many features all remotely accessed via your PC or SMS. Also love the fact that you can designate up to 3 trusted numbers (friends or family) to have messages sent to in the event of a SIM swap, and those numbers can also lock you device for you. £2.40 is nothing to pay for that amount of funcionality!
I'm curious to know why there are text messaging apps to replace the stock text messaging app but not phone, the closest I've found are apps that end up placing the call for you in the stock app...

Because with free email services texting phones has always been free since all phones have an email address. But voip (calling over Internet) has always been a pay to use service. The only free ones would be Skype and similar but those are only free to other computers not phones.

I've heard about something called Groove IP for VOIP. Never tried it though.
Any known way to block sms txts natively from this device or an app that return messages the sender letting them know there SMS has been blocked or they're message didnt go through to you .
Something that Not just lets them send it
But shows some proof to them the mesages they text are being blocked that theyre sending ?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
On the messaging app (stock app) if you go to setting and scroll all the way down there is a "spam" setting, you put in the number you don't want showing up and bam! Works fine for me
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Mr.Number does that and calls too, free from PlayStore.
Nothing better than root call blocker pro imho. Been using forever, never an issue across 4 phones. Pay for it and support the dev you will not be disappointed.
