So I just did gfree earlier today and everything went fine, at least at the time.
I did ./gfree -f so I got s-off, sim unlock, and supercid
In the past couple of hours, my connection has been really sporadic. I go from full bars, to no service for no reason. I'm at my house, and I have never had these problems before.
I'm assuming something went wrong in the gfree process. Maybe the sim unlock? Is there anyway to revert the unlock to see if that fixes my problem?
I read the wiki and I saw how you can reset the supercid and the s-off to s-on, but I don't see anything about the simunlock.
Any help or insight on this problem is greatly, greatly appreciated.
Well, it seems that my problem has fixed itself, sorta. I switched out sims with my brother's phone to see if maybe my sim was bad, and low and behold the phone got a signal again. So, I put my sim back in my phone, and for some reason, I started getting a signal again. Don't really know how to explain that one, but I'm glad it is working again.
Could this be a precursor that my sim is going bad? I kinda had an idea that it was already going south a while back when I had it on my old android phone and in the settings>about phone>status it said that my phone number was unknown and this causes my picture in the contacts and messenging app to be a gray box.
I don't really know what went on with it, but I haven't had a problem since. Maybe it was a glitch in the matrix?
What do you guys think?
Blow on it like a nintendo cart
Actually cleaning the SIM contacts with something like a pencil eraser usually works wonders.
I don't think it's anything to do with gfree. Could be the SIM. Or even the way you are holding the phone. Sometimes the way you hold the bottom part of the phone can affect the signal, since that's where the antenna is.
You could also try upgrading the radio - see the radio thread on that.
I took a look at the thread and I have 26.03.02.26, the 26.04.02.17 radio being the only one that supersedes it. I got to thinking though. My reception was fine before and I had no signal even when I was not even holding the phone. I see no need in updating the radio since it seems to have fixed itself and has not happened since.
Only problem that I would like to fix now is the phone not recognizing my number in the settings, causing my contact picture to be grayed out.
It's strange though, because, my phone will pick up another sims number if I install it, and even weirder is that if I install my sim into another phone, that phone picks up my number.
Not really sure what I need to do to fix this.

Hi
I replaced my P3300's screen a while ago because it was cracked. Everything seemed to go OK and the phone worked fine for a few days.
I don't know if this is related or not (maybe I messed the antenna up during the process, but since it worked for a while afterward I'd guess not...?)
Anyway, for the last couple of days I've had no network reception whatsoever.
The last time I remember it working was in the evening a few days ago. I fell asleep with the WIFI on and woke up with the phone dead. I turned it on and it didn't ask me for my PIN like it usually does, and it couldn't find my GSM network. It's been like that since.
When I press the green "dial" button nothing happens. When I go into settings > telephone, it asks me for my PIN and I can then access the options but it doesn't find any networks when I search.
Now every time I turn it off and back on, it never asks for my PIN.
I've tried removing the battery and the sim card but that hasn't helped.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance
Meh. On a possibly maybe related note, I've just realised my PocketCM Contacts hangs when I try to launch it. Could it be a loose sim card connection causing both these problems? Although I'm pretty sure all my contacts are on the phone and not the sim card, and the sim looks fine and is placed properly...
edit - just been into programmes > sim manager (not sure that's what it is in english, my phone is french) and I get a "sim busy" error message (again, not sure if that's exactly what it is in english...). Hmmmmm
Well it gets even weirder... It seems I can receive and send text messages!
I've been getting texts from my operator saying I have new voice messages (which I obviously can't listen to) and I've also had texts from a friend and been able to reply to them and they've been received. Even though the icon at the top still has an exclamation mark so supposedly no network.
My iGo GPS also doesn't seem to work anymore (it hangs during initialisation process) although Tomtom works fine.
Someone please tell me they have an idea what could be going on! This is doing my head in
Dam, you have all my solidarity man!
Are you using radio 3.39.90 by chance? Even if not I would still flash another radio.I also suggest to check that your device was correctly reassembled if you have any doubt about it.
Hi guys,
ok... I have an HTC desire... originally on Virgin Mobile and now unlocked. I'm an O2 customer...
I have rooted and installed the Leedroid rom... originally at version 1.8b. Everything was fine.... until I had a corruption on the SD card.... which I fixed when I got a second following a couple of days of "mounted read only." A day or so later, I lost connection to the O2 network and have been unable to regain it, despite several ROM (I'm now running Leedroid 1.9) and radio reflashes.
I still have access to wi-fi, gps etc.
I have tested my sim card in another phone (all ok) as well as other sim cards in my phone (doesn't work.) I have also swapped and tried another O2 sim.
The phone detects all the major networks... just won't let me connect.
The error message I get when trying to connect to a network manually is "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network"
I've obviously checked that the phone isn't IMEI blocked etc. I've also tried the sim unlock from the fastboot menu, the switching on and off of the radio, airplane mode... lots and lots of stuff.
I really am at my wits end with this issue. I love the desire... but it's obviously of no use to me without the phone element!!!
Can anyone please suggest something to solve this problem???? Could the corruption of the sd card have caused this in some way, despite several rom/radio reflashes since? I really want to stick with the desire, but at the moment I effectively have a £400 brick....
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.....

Firstly this is not a development issue, its a question.....
But anyway, when the phone is telling you that you cannot connect to the network is it allowing you to enter an unlock code at all? Or have you ever "unlocked" the phone in the past?
You're right Lenny... apologies for creating the thread in the wrong part of the forum.... perhaps a mod could move it....
Yes... the phone was unlocked from Virgin mobile prior to me buying it [from ebay.] I didn't perceive this to be an issue, given that I actually had connection to O2 for a day or two before losing it...
No... the phone/sim is not asking for a code when I attempt to connect.
Thanks,
Shep

and did it stop letting you on randomly, or did you do something immediately before?
Nope... completely random. I was in a poor reception area and initially put it down to this... but then it never returned and I'm now back at home having had zero connection for a week.
I think that my repair of the SD card was after I initially lost connection. But as I said, I'm not sure whether the SD card corruption is a red herring.
Call me sceptical, but I doubt you would of been able to check whether it was on the IMEI blacklist or not unless you worked for a phone network.
It's not public knowledge and someone working for O2 shouldn't have told you if it was or wasn't.
Also, even if they did and the IMEI listed on the handset is NOT blacklisted, as was possible with WinMo devices, you may have unintentionally changed the recorded IMEI on the handset to one that IS blacklisted - unlikely though I'll admit.

the sd card should not have anything to do with radio.
Go to dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
then press phone info
done.... what info do i need to post?

try to go down the bottom and press the "turn radio off" button
then when its turned off try to turn it back on, then see what happens.
Just done it and no changes.
Did it several times between reflashes too... not so much as a flicker...
No idea then, unless the IMEI has been blacklisted.
Ok.... thanks anyway.
Any luck getting this to work? Am in the same situation - t-Mobile unlocked Desire with a 3 SIM?
Edit: I have intermittent reception/connection to 3 now - I did a lot of recovering/trying RUUs which would partially load on Win 7 then just disappear...assume they should have done something more than that. What seems to have helped - and I partially had this problem in my Nokia E65 - was to place a piece of paper (SIM sized) behind the SIM to 'push' it onto the contacts. Well, maybe it was a software issus but it's now my luck paper and I'm not removing it!
Gone again. Very annoying.
RUU'd to RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed (unbranded 2.2) and still no luck.
Any ideas?
Hello all,
my Defy is stuck in emergency mode and can't find my carrier anymore (o2). Details:
- only emergency calls possible, no network found
- another mobile in my house gets outstanding connection (o2 aswell), when switching SIMs, it's still my Defy not getting a connection
- wiping the Defy has not changed anything, even with stock settings all I see is the red cross (put my settings back with clockwork recovery)
- an hour or two before this happened I was listening to music with my headphones, but between taking the headphones out and GSM failing I was sending texts
- When doing a search for other carriers I can see some (though not reliably), but not mine
- I bought my Defy via Amazon, so no SIMlock, obviously.
- WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS are all working fine, so they probably have different antennae
- I rooted my Defy, but this was over a month ago, and it was working fine. I also did not install apps or update some existing ones before this happened. I also did not reboot. It just happened. Put it in my pocket and next time I got it out there was the red cross.
In Phone Info -> Status it says under signal strength "-111 dBm 1APU". It all looks like the antenna is broken, but I didn't hit it, drop it, put it into water or hurt it in any way before this happened or the 3-4 days before. So I'm really lost here.
Anyone? Thanks in advance.
Hi. Have the defy for about a month now. Same issue since first day. Dont know whats wrong. Found out that after 4-5 reboots its ok and lasts till next reboot/switch off. So try turn it on/off 4-5 time or just download a quick reboot app and do the same to see what happens. If aneyone has any idea on how to fix this?
i get this all the time when i flash my defy thru any other rom......and thus roll back every time to stock (indian) rom.....
try flashing your phone with any compatible rom....new radios might get ure phone working
Same problem here. First time today, spontaneous, after a month of use my Defy, non rooted, never unlocked, standard noMOTOBLUR, just like as it was bought from store. Moto_Versiuo.2.34.1.MB525.Retail.en.SEA
None of these worked to restablish the radio connection: succesive reboot, manual/automatic network search and choose, succesive airplane on/off. I didn't check the signal parameters.
I thought that the SIM just burned, removed and try it on another phone and everything was OK. When put it back in Defy, the network connection was established.
The experience was very strange and my final verdict was that the SIM just moved a little from its initial position.
BUT now I realize the problem is more complex and I don't know what caused it !
I have also noticed that the sim card slot gives a little more space for the simcard to move (at least on my defy). Might be a prob with the sim card being old or something (mine is from 2005). For now i'll just try to keep my phone on (seems i finally found stable settings for setvsel, so no more unexpected reboots).
An answer from motorola's official support forum is just remove the simcard and clean it with some cloth...
This is definitely a sim slot/card problem. If bought from amazon they will oblige to change it without any money. I did the same but not for this problem.
If you think there is some problem with software, which is unlikely then flash an sbf and see if things are fine.
To begin with flash chinese froyo sbf. It is downgradable to any previous firmware you were using and very flexible.
Hope this can solve your problem. Get back on what the result is.
Same here...
My defy got network yesterday at 07pm til mid-night.
before, since 16 (11pm) til 19 (7pm) before it function again.
and now, its bloked.
i rooted my cell one month ago, then, probably thats not the fault of z4root.
Sorry about my badass english, i still in upgrade mode.
any idea about it guys ?
thnx

Problem solved replacing sim card with a new.
SYMPTOM: can't see any mobile networks
BACKGROUND: I've been using htc one x for a month now. Initially on three, but their signal was unusable at home, so sim-unlocked and switched a couple of weeks ago to giffgaff ( a virtual network on top of the UK o2 network).
All has been fine, until today. I sent a few texts & calls in the morning, and mobile data was working. Since then, I can't see any mobile network.
wifi is fine.
Search Networks pops up "Error while searching for networks" and finds none.
No software changes of any sort since last successful call. No changes at all today, at least until I tried to diagnose the problem.
Running stock rom, with the WW update of a couple of weeks ago (1.28.771.9.CL56522 release-keys) -- neither S-OFF nor unlocked bootloader.
Nothing obvious to me in the normal or radio logcat logs.
The only thing I did after the last successful call was to run sensorly to try and map a trip. I've used this before without any problems. It got no connection but I thought nothing of that. I've since uninstalled it just in case it could somehow be interfering with the radio.
THINGS I'VE TRIED:
No, the airplane mode isn't on, and mobile is. I've toggled airplane from settings and power switch, many times
recreated the APN
checked other phones - yes there are a number of networks visible
tried the original o2 sim - same problem
safe mode
cold boot
reboot, reboot, reboot
obviously I haven't pulled the battery...
turned off wifi, in case it was somehow interfering
HTC diagnostic tool
factory reset
confirmed imei is not blocked
Any ideas? Bearing in mind that I'm looking for something which can happen spontaneously.
Interestingly, while writing this I've just noticed that Baseband version shows as Unknown. That worries me - is it possible that my radio partition has spontaneously corrupted itself?
I did speak to 02 support - they said to take it into a shop for warranty repair. I don't want to try a custom ROM just yet -- not when I might have to use the warranty. But is there any way to force it to reinstall the stock rom (preferably not involving windows)?
I have the same problem as well and flashing custom roms did not solve it for me. But for me even the IMEI number is shown as UNKNOWN...I haven't done anything special to get this issue, one day when I woke up the phone could not connect to any network.
I have tried a lot of different methods but with no success. I don't think we can do anything about the baseband without S-OFF.
If a hard reset fails, then it's time to think about returning the unit. Either get a refund or get it replaced.
This may be irrelevant; but I've had this happen to me on my GNexus. I solved it by going back to stock and it just fixed itself overnight.....
my HTC One X did the same after about 2 weeks. Gave it back to supplier, waiting my replacement.
Even tested with a different SIM card, did a hard reset. Problem stayed the same.
Im curious did any of you find a resolution to this? it happened to me a while ago but yet to fing a solution. HTC refuse to fix under warranty because it is unlocked.. i am currently waiting for the next official update to see if that fixes anything but the way things are looking that could be a while..

It sounds like a fault, probably the radio chip has just stopped working, no software is going to repair that. If it was a software problem, there would be hundreds or thousands of people all having the same issue.

Device: European GSM model "YAKJU"
ROM: stock 4.2.1, freshly installed from Google provided image
I swiped my device a few weeks back, after a bad experiment. Reflashed the Google image and all was swell. Until a few days back, my phones radio seems to crash at arbitrary moments, yet very often.
Symptoms: good reception, able to use internet over EDGE/3G and all of a sudden no coverage whatsoever. Nothing then works: tried going into airplane mode and back, tried resetting the radio in the telephone info menu (*#*#4636#*#*), the only solution is to reboot the phone. Then we're back to square one: everything works for a short while (minutes at best) then zilch again. Very frustrating!
The funny thing is, the telephone info menu still gives me info about signal strength. Also, IMEI number is no problem, I still have one (seeing this seems to be a common issue).
I'm completely lost here. Why would my phone, all of a sudden, be doing this? Anyone? :-\ Is there a logfile somewhere I could look at (rooted phone), possibly telling me what's crashing exactly?
UPDATE: well, I thought swapping sims with a colleague would be a good idea to troubleshoot further (and make sure it wasn't a faulty sim card), but to my horror I now get no service whatsoever, even after a reboot! The phone doesn't even ask for a sim code... Yikes? Hardware failure or still possibly software? Would a factory reset do anything?
UPDATE2: Factory reset didn't help, at all. Same issue, no connection whatsoever.
UPDATE3: What the ****ing ****. I reflashed the stock Google image (again) and at first it seemed much worse: I no longer had a IMEI (*#06#). Hit the Google and saw nothing more than "ahh, sucks, send it for repair!". So I was preparing to do so, took out the battery to write down the serial, popped it back in, rebooted and... all is well now. IMEI is back and it seems to have and keep its connection now?! I don't have a single clue on as what and/or how though, but it sure as hell is no hardware issue. Google, get that **** together, this was your flagship phone! :\
UPDATE4: Spoke too soon. Scratch the previous update, I just lost all radio again. Back to square one!
Noone?
