[Q] Q: Desire rebooting after OTa - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have revoked my Desire version, and it have worked excellent untill now
Received the latest OTA on danish desire, install and since then I cannot use the phone
What I can do is
Boot normally, and it reboots to the white screen with a HTC logo, continues to reboot
Boot into Hboot menu
In the Hboot menu, It loads and checks the PB99IMG.zip and drops back to the Hoot menu. I have tried stock roms here and the LeeDroid V2.3B renaming both Zip files to PB99IMG.zip
If I enter the Fastboot option, I can select:
Bootloader, and I returns into the Hboot menu
Reboot, and it reboots.
Reboot Bootloader, it reloads
Power Down does as intended
If I select the recovery menu, it goes directly to a screen with a nearly black image, with a red triangle
It can clear the storage, and reboots afer 5 seconds afterwards.
If i plug in the USB cable it says Hboot USB PLUG
IF I try to run the "Fastboot erase cache " from the SDK, it just waits for the device.
Version:

any Idea on how to get my phone back to working condition?

Go into recovery mode and install a recovery.
RA-desire for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621
Pick any ROM you like and flash it using the recovery.

How do I do that? In recovery mode it just shows a red triangle? I have the SDK tools, and the RA recovery image, but I really don't get it how to install the RA recovery image, sorry

You might have to ignore a couple of the first steps as the guide assumes your phone is still working.

This is why it's been said good THOUSAND times NOT to flash an OTA on a rooted handset. PLEASE search before posting the same question

No Eddy isn't saying that at all. And I have to agree with him. Ur problem has been posted by countless other people and the solution too is on those threads. Just do a search here or on Google. You'll note that on those threads at xda, eddy himself has responded to most of them. It just involves resetting the phone to factory mode. Don't ask how. Search !

Let me close this thread once and for all.
Solution to boot loop on applying OTA update over Rooted Desire:
Do the following in sequence and proceed with each step if the previous fails:
Fastboot (Back+Power) > Bootloader > Clear Storage
Fastboot > Recovery > Wipe
Apply the corresponding RUU.
And for the RUU, kindly see the shipped roms>Bravo page.

A ruu's no fun it's like accepting defeat.

Thank you. I have tried that, but the RUU doesn't seem to reconize my phone. Unbranded desire. I hve tried with both the HTC drivers and with the Modified drivers, that are recommended by the unrevoked team..
Seems like it have to go back.

You dont need drivers for the PB99IMG.zip method. See my thread "How to Unroot-Guide for Newbies" in my signature. You didnt mention your software version. Create a goldcard and use a WWE RUU with a software version equal to or higher than the version you currently have on phone. Read that thread completely before asking qns.

and the PB99IMg method worked.. The trick I missed was to extract it from the RRU.. Tnx everybody!

Try using unrevoked, and make sure your in hboot when u plug it in
If that doesn't work I believe your other option is adb but I know nothing of using it

Assuming you have a way to get the file onto your sdcard (like plugging it directly into your computer), you can flash the recover image from hboot. I am not sure where you can get the plane jane clockwork recovery, but you can get the slightly modified clockwork recovery with easy scrolling enabled from the thread linked below. That should at least get you up and running again and then you can flash back the regular CW Recovery from Rom Manager if you don't like the easy scroll version.
Instructions for flashing from hboot are also in the thread.

I saw it but was guessing he meant s-off because of the way he said it. Hopefully unrevoked worked for him then as I don't think you have to have s-off for it to work.
Other option would be to flash a stock RUU from hboot. That should work even if he is s-on.

Either way. He's got hboot, which means its not a brick
to the OP
If nothing else works,
I agree with sdorn. RUU is the way.
Thats what will fix your issues.
If you cant get to recovery and you have S-on, meaning that you cannot flash a custom recovery, your only option is to RUU. There is a link in android development. You will need a windows computer. Try this and report back. If it doesnt work and gives you a USB error, simply: 1. Exit the ruu program (KEEP YOUR PHONE PLUGGED IN), and 2. Run it again.
Boom, no more brick
but, hours worth of retweaking.
You could also try to run a update.zip of the OTA. Here is the url to download it.

This update there is no need to have s-off, you can do out with s-on. It is the official ota update from verizon. Just download it, put out on the your of your sd card, then power phone up while holding the power button and volume down button. It should recognoize the file and ask you if you want to install. This is easier than the RUU and just as effective.

He can't get into recovery, so he can't apply the update. He's got to ruu.
1. Download the update.zip file from here. (DIRECT FROM GOOGLE.)
2. Drop the file on the root of your SD card. (Meaning, don’t put it in any folder.)
*MAKE SURE IT’S NAMED UPDATE.ZIP!
3. Turn your phone off.
4. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power at the same time to boot into HBOOT.
5. When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
6. Press the Power button to select “RECOVERY.”
7. When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
8. Using the volume button, scroll down to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and select it.
9. Your phone will now update!
10. It could take some time, so be patient. When it reboots, you are on official 2.2. Yay!

Follow above posters to RUU to 2.2 stock.

[Q] How to back to the official froyo ?

Is there any way to get back to the official froyo? cz after i did the alpharevx i fell my wf lost the htc sense. i feel somtehing different on the map. But the "flip to silent" geature still works.
Thanks for your answer
You need the Sense Fix, it is available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156713
And if you still want to go back to the state before AlphaRev X, the procedure is stated here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160251
So you are on the htc sense rom and not installed any custom rom then follow this procedure.
1.Apply the HTC Sense fix ,procedure could be found on XDA
2.Do S-ON,procedure could be founded on XDA
3.Now you must also remove the clockworkmod recovery in order to recieve future HTC OTA Updates .For this email me([email protected]) and i will send you firmware.zip, download and rename it to PC49IMG.Place it on the sd card but before placing format the sd card to fat 32.Reboot the phone to HBOOT by pressing vol. down and power key.wait for the sd card to be checked and it will ask to update ,follow the instructions given on the screen and reboot the phone.
(cant post firmware.zip here due to the size limit)
AND YOU'RE DONE!!!!!
You have a completely unrooted device with stock recovery and no one can say that this device was once rooted.
P.S. If you have installed a custom rom the restore the HTC Froyo Rom backup to bring it to company state.
Make sure you restore the backup which you had made before flashing superuser, if not then restore the backup which you made and try to uninstall it from applications menu,if it does not uninstall then will remain there and i dont know how to remove it.
I had made a backup before flashing the superuser so there was no superuser installed for my case on restoring the backup
I also did this and was sucessfull in unrooting my device
Thanks for you both !!!
*Clicked thanks button*
But, my ROM is still DK Custom. How can i change it to be the Official Froyo ?

You don't have to recover someones backup. Why not flash the "safe flash zip" roms which are equal to stock roms. You can find their links in index thread.
And if you want complete stock including stock recovery then follow this. This eliminates connection errors of ruu.
In your windows PC click on start and type %temp% and enter. That opens the PC user temporary folder. Just minimize the folder. Now open your ruu (donot connect phone to PC). Donot go with the process, just keep the ruu window aside open. Now search for the file "rom.zip" in the temporary folder (use search function). The rom.zip will be present in a folder (with random name, which the folder name enclosed with {} brackets) . Now copy the rom.zip to a safe location and rename it to PC49IMG.ZIP. Now format your sdcard to fat32 and place the pc49img.zip at the root of sdcard. Now reboot to hboot menu . Then you will be prompted to do the update.
Make sure you have enough battery and do not interrupt the process by pulling battery.

Have you flashed stock hboot from alpharevx hboot. If yes, which hboot have you flashed. Is it 1.01.001. If this is the case then you need to use froyo wwe ruu.
If you are still on apharevx hboot then you need to flash stock hboot. This process was there in the Dev section. I suggest you to flash stock hboot 0.80 from the "ruu-buzz-htc-wwe-1.37" you mentioned. If you do this you can go with my previous post.
Let me know your hboot version.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
my hboot is like what alpharevx allow. not xxxxxxx2 but xxxxxxxx1
mine is already s-on but still have recovery and root.
i tried to flash the safe buzz but it says error
So what I got from your posts is --- you have used alpharevx to make the phone s-off. Then flashed aosp rom. Then as you are missing sense, you want stock rom with stock hboot and recovery. So, I think you followed the process to revert back to s-on. During that you have first flashed "Ruu_buzz_froyo_HTC_wwe_2.22.405.1". Then flashed fastboot command and stock hboot 1.01.0001 from that thread. If this is all what you have done, then just flash the "Ruu_buzz_froyo_HTC_wwe_2.22.405.1" again. And if you face USB connection errors, just make pc49img.zip with this ruu (the process that I previously mentioned).
Edit: And "safe buzz" zips should be flashed from cwm 2.x recovery. If you use cwm 3.x or above recovery then you need to flash 2.x recovery to use them. Again refer the index thread on how to.
And if you have previously flashed wwe 2.22.405.1 ruu during revert back to s-on, then flashing safe buzz is useless. Because safe buzz will not overwrite the custom recovery with stock recovery.

[Q] DHD stuck in HTC green logo screen

HI,
my Desire HD was running 2.3.5 android when i tried to install a custom ROM using "Advanced Ace Hack Kit". The AAHK downgraded my device to 2.3.3 with no problem. Then i run the tool again to unroot the device but i got stuck into the HTC green logo screen after it finished...
Now,
I can boot to bootloader using Vol and power buttons.
I can't factory reset my device. < boot to HTC logo also.
I can't install or update roms from SDcard. < invalid operation (E:can't open /cache/recovery/command).
and I'm still stuck on HTC green logo white background screen and the screen wont turn off.
Please help me with things I can try to somehow get it anywhere besides the HTC logo screen.
Much appreciated,
Sorry overread, that you used AAHK. Heaven't rooted my device that way. So probably my instructions won't help you. Sorry for the post.
For all of the following you need root and s-off. There are a lot of manuals how to do that.
First of all: You don't install Custom Roms via bootloader. You have to install a custom recovery first. Download Clockword Mod or 4 Ext recovery (use search function) and after that fastboot. Now follow these steps:
1) Start into Bootloader and select fastboot
2) Connect your HD to the pc
3) Unzip Fastboot and clockwork or 4 ext into a folder on your pc
4) Open CMD on yur pc
5) Navigate to the folder where the above mentiones files are saved
6) Type in 'fastboot-windows flash recovery "name of the recovery file".img'
If your on Mac or linux:
use 'fastboot-mac' or 'sudo fastboot-linux' instead of 'fastboot-windows'.
Know you can enter Recovery and install custom rom from your sd card.
Yes i used AAHK to root my device,, but didn't work out. thanks for the quick reply.

[Q] Hboot , No Recovery

Hey ,
I have a HTC desire ( Bravo PVT1 Ship S-OFF, HBoot 6.93.1002 , Revolutionary)) and it wont run recovery.
Reflashing Recovery.img works with fastboot, but still wont run recovery , it hangs on the HTC screen.
What started the problems : First i rooted the phone and installed a ROM with clockworkrecovery , and it was working well, But I wanted to expand the memory , so i followed these instructions to install 4EXT recovery:
Like posted above, never use minitool, it creates bad partitions. If ur s-off then flash 4ext recovery via fastboot commands or use the 4ext recovery PB99IMG in my sig, instructions r there. Once 4ext recovery is installed on ur phone u need to boot recovery, select it in the bootloader menu (if phone off, volume down + power then select recovery) once in recovery, goto tools, partition sdcard, remove all partitions and start from scratch then choose
1024
Skip
Skip
Then choose ext4
Once thats done, goto main menu then wipe/format and format all partitions except sdcard, after that wipe dalvik. Connect ur phone (usb) and select toggle usb in menu, send the rom to ur sdcard (from computer) then install from sdcard then reboot.
Click to collapse
Everything worked except for sending the rom to the SDcard, it gave me USB Brick error and it asked me to fix it, I accepted and it rebooted automatically, and since then it wont go into recovery anymore.
What have i tried to do to fix it :
• Erase recovery and re-flashed a new recovery with fastboot (both 4EXT recovery and clockwork recovery ), Still hangs on HTC screen when selecting Recovery
• Put PB99IMG.zip on SDCard , it says that no image or wrong image.
I've searched and tried it all , except for installing stock RUU , but ive read thats a last resort . So before trying that I thought I ask the people that helped me so much already.
Greets
Does ur phone boot up? If so download the 4ext recovery updater apk in my sig and try flashing recovery using the app. Thats what u should of done in the first place. PB99IMG is kinda last option
Sent from my HTC Desire
No, it doesnt have a Rom , that's because I erased everything , like the text above says . I got stuck when I wanted to send the Rom to the SDcard .
But now I got really stuck .
It won't load any PB99IMG , that means I won't be able to go back to the original RUU ... I can use fastboot. Is there a way to flash it through fastboot ?

(edit: guess I misread your q. Dunno about flashing RUU through fastboot)
Ok... I am completely stuck...
I cant load any PB99IMG
What might be the reason that it wont recognize my PB99IMG?
Is there any way to flash things back to stock without using PB99IMG?
or Flash Hboot ?
Please anyone ...
ok... I want to go back to original RUU so i downloaded the PB99IMG_downgrade , but i cant downgrade it through PB99IMG.zip since it wont load...

Go to bootloader and:
#1 "fastboot erase recovery"
#2 "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
#3 "fastboot erase cache"
#4 "fastboot reboot-bootloader"
Now reboot to recovery, it must work or you have wrong recovery img

I did exactly what you've said, but still no luck... HTC white screen ...
Should I try to flash the Hboot image , so I can run orginal RUU , and then root it again ?
Yes you can do that, flash downgrader.img ( http://alpharev.nl/bravo_downgrade.img ) and run RUU.
You're stock hboot right?
My Hboot was HBoot 6.93.1002 , Revolutionary
and after the downgrader turned into alpharev 6.93.9999
Should I be able to run the RUU update now?
And do I have to be in bootloader while I execute the RUU, since thats my only option ?

Yes you should be able, and yes from bootloader.
Maybe u coulda tried another recovery.img first, like CWM, just to be sure.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Ive tried CWM and 4ext recovery both , downloaded it again , just to be sure it isnt corrupted, but still get the same issue.
Now I am going to try to install RUU , after the battery is charged over 50%
Thank you guys , for replying and helping me . I Hope that after the RUU install , I can go back to do the fun stuff again !
New problem....
I Tried to install the RUU
Everything looked fine , until it gave me bootloader version error ,its flashed everything except for the ROM.
and it booted in Hboot , and it showed :
Bravo UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT- 0.75.0000
MICROP 031D
TOUCH PANEL - SYNT0101
RADIO 4.05.00.11
MAR 5 2010 21.12.15
I didnt have a clue what to do next, so i tried to run the newest RUU but gave me the same error (bootloader version is higher) untill I came across a topic on a other forum with someone with the same problem
later he said:
EVERYTHING SOLVED: I used a downgrade utility to restore the (broken) BootLoader and it also installed the stock HTC ROM

But the downgrade utility wont detect my device (is my USB DEBUGGING disabled? )
Can anyone help me , I REALLY dont know what to do!
I am in a loop of problems
I cant run RUU because my ROM image is 3.14.something , so I cant install an older version..
I cant flash Misc because of my S-ON status
I cant enter recovery...
So my questions are :
Is there a way to flash MISC to an older one so I can run RUU?
Is there a way to root it, without entering a ROM ( I know there is alpharev ISO , but it wont recognize my Desire...)
HELP?

[ROOT] HTC Desire stuck on Bootscreen after evo³

Hi,
I need some help solving my root problem with my European HTC Desire. I recently got the device itself from a friend. Since both noobs with Android and rooting/flashing, neither him nor me know if it is a branded phone or not. I assume, it's not branded since I couldn't see any brand on the device or in the menu so far. Also, it's still Froyo (Android 2.2) and looks pretty standard.
Same hard facts:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON (additional info: PVT4 erase size = 20.000)
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101

Kernel-Version: 2.6.32.15-g6a358a9 [email protected] # 1
Build-Nummer: 2.10.161.2 CL229389 release-keys
Software-Nummer: 2.10.161.2
Browser-Version WebKit 3.1
My aim is to get a CUSTOM ROM (preferably mild wild's cm7 JG) on the device. For rooting, I would like to use the unrevoked³ tool, since I didn't find a step-by-step instruction for revolutionary (besides, I don't like to give away my serial number...not trying being paranoid, but, you know..)
For the unrevoked method, I followed the Noob Proof Video Tutorial. I am stuck at "Waiting for reboot..." (in this video @ 2:02 min).
My guess, without knowing for certain what the problem was, is that my HTC Desire doesn't reboot correctly even without connecting it with USB-port, etc. It may be kinda broken (I had tons of bootloops, freezes, etc, pp). Maybe I somehow damaged the phone with the first try to root it? I tried anything I read here during the last 3 days (clear storage, soft reset, bootloader reboot, etc).
I need to get the battery out and then wait for good 10 Minutes, to even boot normally. Often, I just come to enter my PIN for the SIM card, when there's a reboot. Often it reboots even right after the second boot screen ("quietly brilliant").
MAybe it's a heated processor? idk, but even really long pauses wouldn't make it reboot correctly.
I disconnected the USB cable and took the battery out, then after 10 minutes, I put them back in and obviously evo³ continued the process from there ("system to settle...might take a minute" or sth similar). However, my device just rebooted there again and then I had the error code "Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again."
This is logical, since it reboots when it wants but never when it's supposed to ****ty phoen ^^ (excuse my language)
Any ideas?
If your phone can boot normally, without any reboots, use revolutionary to s-off and install a custom recovery.
revolutionary.io
Read the All things root for desire in my sig.

Apparantly my phone doesn't boot normally
Thx though
Edit: wow, now it's even stuck during the second bootscreen at "quie..." of "quietly brilliant"
Best would be to flash the 2.3 RUU (sig, put in on sd-card and boot in bootloader), and use revolutionary. You will lose all your data, but at least the phone will boot, and you will root it.
Well, except if unrevoked did install a custom recovery. Check that too.

No, unrevoked didn't make a custom recovery...the boot menu looks all the same.
However, things are really messed up now. I put the 2.3 RUU image on my SD-Card and booted it via bootloader. An update process began. After completion, the phone rebootet several times just up to the HTC-logo, vibrated about 20 times (maybe the 7-times stuff a couple of times in a row).
Nothing works now. I couldn't even boot anything now.
Also, my bootloader shows HBOOT 1.02.001 now.
Radio is 5.17.05.23
Need help!
Edit: after point 9 in the picture, the device reboots but doesn't boto further than the HTC Logo. THen it vibrates 7 times until it reboots again, then it vibrates 7 times until it reboots again...and so on, and so on...all in a loop.
Edit 2: after having the phone rested on my table over night, this morning I put the battery back in and it worked...a bit. It booted correctly and I configured the settings (debugging-mode, etc). However, trying to do unrevoked again, the device stuck at rebooting again.
Still need help, plz
Edit 3: so desperate --> plz help
You don't run unrevoked on it. If it's still in a bootloop, then flash the ruu again, then use Revolutionary to s-off. DO NOT USE OR DO ANYTHING ELSE.
1. Flash the RUU again.
2. Quick configure.
3. Use revolutionary.io.
4. Install a custom rom.

Okay, and where do I get the beta key from? I mean, I am supposed to put my S/N somewhere, but I don't know where.
Sorry, but I couldn't find any instruction on that.
Edit: my bad, I had javascript disabled
Tried it again: SUCCESS!!!
How do I get a Custom ROM on the device now? Can I continue at STEP FIVE - Partitioning Your Sd Card With Gparted in this Noob Proof Video Tutorial or does revolutionary already has some of those further steps included (like preparing SD-card, etc)?
Edit 2:
Okay, revolutionary doesn't root, it just makes S-OFF. I found this perfect step-to-step guide which is in German, though. Sorry for that...

So it worked. You're welcome.
To root, you either install a custom rom from recovery, or you stay stock, and flash SuperSU from recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Scroll down and download the CWM flashable zip.

Well, it worked so far...I rooted und S-OFFed it, I think I even updated the radio to 32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17 via the app "ROM Manager".
Now I try to partition the SD card, since doing that via ROM Manager from within the phone didn't work, BECAUSE MY PHOEN STILL DOESN'T BOOT CORRECTLY :/
(Sorry, not shouting at you...just let stuff out) ^^
Okay, I'm stuck with partitioning. Currently my Bootloader-Menu shows me that I have HBOOT 6.93-1002. Should I go to http://alpharev.nl/ and rename that
PB99IMG_cm7r2.zip to PB99IMG.zip and boot the device? What is this bravo_alphaspl-cm7r2.img?
I'm so sorry, but I think I messed everything up. Arrrgh
cm7r2 hboot is a different phone memory layout. Stock hboot has 250 mb system, cm7r2 has less system alocated memory, for smaller roms, and gives you more data space.
If you want to patition your sd-card, install 4ext recovery.

Yes, I want to do that (even with 4ext recovery). My questions herefor is, if
1) this is within the correct sequence (since I still doesn't have the mildwild cm7 custom ROM installed yet)
2) how I do it with 4ext? do I need to rename the files given at http://alpharev.nl/ ?
3) when I successfully partitioned the SD-card, how do I continue? There are 2 Parts of the mildwild cm7 custom rom...
Thx in advance
Edit: I did anything as suggested in the instructions (put it on SD-card, update yes, reboot no). Then I chose "Recovery" but nothing happens. THe phone is just stuck on the HTC-logo bootscreen :/
Edit 2: okay I followed abaaabbbs instructions in another thread/your sig and installed fastboot via adb. (See attch.)
Now I need to wait a while with battery removed since my phone doens't boot at all. I can only enter bootloader menu etc, but not regular boot to android on phone itself. always stuck with HTC-logo and/or vibrating 7 times , then rebooting to htc-logo again... :/

I am still stuck with 4ext (see my screenshot in my last post).
I can't tell if it worked. It seemed to work, but I can't boot any further than into the bootloader-menu :/
Shouldn't formatting take a while? It jsut took 1s via adb
MAybe I installed the wrong radio beforehand? I am so lost ...
Shouldn't my HBOOT say CM7r2 instead of 6.93.1002 ?
I can't enter recovery at all...
It booted...once. To the regular android menu...still it doesn't boot to recovery at all...should I re-install recovery? like CWM?
Yeah try and reinstall cwm, wat rom r u trying?

Sorry, I tried to answer that directly but as a new user I wasn't allowed to edit my prompt response for 5 minutes....
Oops, again
As above, I want to install mildwild cm7. I would prefer to isntall 4ext instead of CWM again....
I'm on mildwild 7 great rom yes I would recommend 4ext recovery, have u downloaded all parts of mildwild an put them on the root of ur SD card

Shouldn't I change HBOOT to cm7r2 first and make the partitions with 4ext first?
Or do I do it all in one step?
Edit: in one of the seldom times the phone actually booted to regular android, I installed the 4ext recovery again - this time via astro data manager (installed the 4ext-recovery-APK from SD-card). Well, when I enter the bootloader and chose "RECOVERY", it still is stuck at the HTC-Logo...
