[Q] Droid 2/X ROM? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know of a good Droid X/2 ROM for the Droid Incredible?

This is an HTC phone so that's impossible. Maybe an EVO/Desire/Z/HD port, but no Motorola port is avaliable on the Incredible unless you want an HTC Droid Brick.

Just put a gingerbread rom on, use adw launcher, and get the droid x adw theme

it wouldn't brick flashing a bad rom LOL. The only way I've ever known to brick it by changing things like radio and h-boot version and the flash going wrong. Anyway. I'm sure it could and has been done. But I'm no sure.

Impossible?
I highly doubt it's impossible, ID has done it, he posted a working video of it on YouTube. I asked him and he said that he would not be releasing it though, so I was curious as to whether or not someone else had also.

Use adw launcher and get a theme, i can guarentee that's the closest you're going to get to motoblur. Haha.

I can't decide which makes me more nauseus, the idea of porting MotoBlur to the G2, or the thread from the guy who wanted to port WinMo 6.5 to the G2.

Although motoblur has gotten a lot better than what it was, and doesn't look too bad on phones coming out like the atrix and the bionic, i would NOT port it over to my phone that doesn't already have it. Haha.

seriously? motoblor was one of the main reason to return the milestone 2 and get a desire z, well aside from the constant strange noise when playing mp3s ...
I really hope not, id rather not see it on the forum at all motorola should just scrap it!
Yes hopefully someone can figure out how to put motoblur on our phones and then after that they can figure out how to lock our bootloaders.

Well said young grasshopper.
I still use my Cliq from time to time. As much as I like MOTOBlur, I feel it's nothing more than bloatware. CyanogenMod runs pretty close to Blur. Why not just use that ROM?
I just want to ask, but i like motoblur. If anyone can port please due. I have a cliq and would like to see the new motoblur.

Trust me, no one is going to port that POS.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
Why be so hard on the kid, he just asked a question...
Your best best is to pick up LauncherPro or ADW and customize it to look like Blur. Blur is a framework that runs deep into Android; it can't easily be ripped out and put on the G2. And XDA has been an HTC-centric forum for years; it's not a kind place to anything non-HTC. No one here will bother to do it.
And Christ people, chill out. There are a lot worse questions to be asked.

well as you may know thunderbolt hardware is almost the exact same as the evo so with a thunderbolt port it makes hdmi support on sense 2.0 roms possible and along with better camera support and also makes 4g possible since this will be the first port coming from a phone with 4g support im am looking forward to this
I am really looking forward to a thunderbolt port for exactly the reasons mentioned above. Basically a revised evo.

I am working on this, but i dont have alot of time. I Have it in my head on how the files should be,but havent goton to it yet, ill try tomorrow, but most likely(likely, not an eta) this week end i should have some progress(progress?)
its based off of froyo, so stock evo kernel will work.
First of all the thunder bolt is not that much alike to the evo, its a desire HD variant.
Different processors, diff 4g (no 4g on this port) and no HDMI is on the thunderbolt. Just because a phone has a 4.3 screen and is made by HTC doesn't mean its the same as the evo ...
The only thing this offers is CDMA sense 2.0.

no, the inspire was a hd variant, tbolt is Evo variant
Tbolt has the same proccesor as evo, just second generation
Tbolt has a lte radio, but possibly could be redone to work on evo(probably not, ask shinzul)
HDMwIn will work on tbolt port or any sense rom and will give hdmi

Yeah, and from what i understand they are really busy making ports, and some are probably trying to get the 2.3 with sense ported, as that would be huge for people.
Pretty big difference in hardware there, although it has a cdma radio so that is a plus.

I'm pretty sure the Thunderbolt has no HDMI output, just DLNA. Where it wirelessly transmits audio/video to compatible TV's and devices.
Next time do a search and post your question in the right section! No one is going to speed things up just because you and your mall buddies want a port of something!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910652
I wouldn't really worry about a thunderbolt port because there really isn't that much it had to offer. Evo already has a few Sense 2.0 roms and several excellent ports that offer somethings not available on the standard Evo rom. Plus htc is coming out this year with Sense 3.0. That is what I would like to see.

Rooting a new Dinc 2 with GB?

I see the thread that says there is no root for Gingerbread but I've seen other posts that say there is an experimental beta for root.
Can someone enlighten me?
I have a buddy with a INC 2 and looking to root it, but it has Gingerbread already loaded.
There's currently no software root. The only option is the XTC clip.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
awww.. makes me sad.
will check back here in a few weeks, maybe some luck then
Yup.. no root for people who updated to GB or got it preloaded. Stock isn't horrible though. I haven't had any real problems except wanting a couple more features like abit louder speaker or stronger vibrate options.
You can always get an XTC clip to S-Off. So no, it's not impossible. It's just not free
Edit: sorry, Nasty, didn't read see you already mention it

I may be wrong, but I don't believe gingerbread has a known exploit yet, for any phone. So even if you get s off, I am not sure it will help because root is a whole different thing.

Well, you are wrong. AlphaRev and Unrevoked have implemented a GB root exploit for both the HTC Sensation and the HTC Evo 3D in the latest Revolutionary solution.
In Twitter land there has been some success with other HTC devices, but the Dinc2 is proving to be troublesome.
Actually, I am rollin' a Moto Droid X2 and they just released a rooted GB update before my phone allows OTA update. Root it up!

Must be a new exploit. Last I checked the only root path for phones with gingerbread was a rollback to froyo.

If you manage to s-off the phone I would think you could flash a custom recovery with fastboot and from there flash a rooted rom.

Revolutionary uses the same temp-root exploit as it did with alpharevx, which means, that temp-root exploit is patched in GB. So revolutionary only works on froyo Inc2s.

Why is he wrong? He said there's no GB root for the INC 2 but was pointing out to kingsway8605 that there is such a thing as a GB root.
Gingerbreak, it's been out for a while. But since Verizon likes to patch to OTA's and cover that exploit (Just like they did with the Droid X) Yes, it's proving to be rather difficult.

Do parts in this ROM help you out for the 2.1/3.0 mix you released a couple days ago?

Yeah I've gotta get home so I can try this thing has me excited. I think it'd pretty much negate the need for pyramid and such tho, not that its a bad thing.
So how is HTC accomplishing this? In a similar fashion to our hacks for sense 3 or a complete overhaul altogether?
And anyone running, which apks aren't there?

I would imagine since HTC has their own source to work with, its not too difficult to build scaled versions of it/versions made specifically for the phone. I was hoping since HTC did it with the Desire that they may make one for the Dinc2 itself.... but that may not happen. We can dream though This Rom will definitely be the next best thing to an official HTC release. Keep on with the great work Newt!

I was thinking the same thing. I don't see why not. Droid incredible has as good if not better hardware.
Of course I also wonder what sense is going to turn into once ice cream sandwich comes. Since ice cream sandwich will have a lot of the things that sense has inherently (ability for scrolling widgets, etc.)
Just makes me kinda sad. That HTC was all "you'll never see sense 3 on this phone" and the devs put that much effort on just for HTC to change up LOL.

Tried this rom out to compare to the other 3.0 roms that are available to us...
I like what I have seen so far. It does seem pretty responsive, and I had no FC's.
Besides the issues already mentioned above, I found that the included SU binary on the sd card doesn't work (when trying to flash through recovery, it say's "Bad")
Couldn't get SU to work, which isn't a big deal considering what this rom is.
Thanks for posting this Newt I'm looking forward to you having the official rom to work with

[Q] Why does development on og evo 4g stop?

OK so I have had my evo for about two years now and when I first got it I rooted it. then a while later ics came out and so did ics roms for the evo. but every time a rom would be stable enough for daily use there would be no more updates for it. even though there would still be bugs with it and it continues to be like that. so i mean whats up with that. would it be that its just not worth it to work on it or the devs don't have time? I just want to know out of curiosity.

From what I've read, I don't think the evo hardware can handle many of the features that came with the phone. I'm assuming that is what you are talking about though (4g, ffc, etc).
The problem is, HTC no longer supports the OG EVO. The source for drivers for things like 4G and the FFC were never officially released, so this is why those items in ICS and JB ROM's don't work. If you want a fully-functional ROM, stick with a Gingerbread ROM. Everything works-period.
Sent using my HTC EVO 4G and a magic wand
I also see this a lot too. I wish I knew how to develop so I could make a driver that works for the front facing camera. That is the only thing holding me back from ics and i want it so bad. I think what happens is the dev gets a new phone and wants to work on the newer one, which there is nothing wrong with.

Yeah I want to know how to develop also. I've been working on learning coding and what not. Like the basic stuff haha
The ffc needs a proprietary driver. The one that works on GB can't even be modified to work on ICS(easily) it needs to be about 90% rewritten to function. Writing one from scratch would almost be easier and its not easy and extremely time consuming without a team of devs experienced in coding camera drivers.
We are legion, for we are many.

Unless you can make a compelling argument with Htc and convince them to release source code lol (hypothetically) Another solution would be to buy an Evo 3d. They have fully functional 3.6 sense roms with everything working.

Exactly, that's why sense 4.0 roms on the Evo 3d dont having working 4g or 3d because htc abandoned the evo 3d and are focused on the evo 4g lte. You can get an evo 3d a lot cheaper than a 4g lte. It is a damn shame I know, believe me.
