Copy and paste? - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

Does any one know of any good copy and paste apposition? Preferably off market Cruz I've tried the few in market and the only decent one is copy and paste it but I really would hate having to pay 6-7$ for a function that should be included with the phone

i have been using this for over a year. It is the most awesome. If you find better, let me know -- I set up other ways to trigger the notification bar to come down and I can manage a LOT of account logins and never have to snap out my keyboard.
its free. You need to setup the lists (easier to just use notepad and set it up and then import it... ) Good instructions here http://www.matabii.com/copipe/index.html (need to translate it from japanese w/ chrome or sumtin')

That works for logins but I'm looking for something more along the lines of the copy and paste function on iPhone where I can copy and paste from any part of a website or app

[Q] Select Copy/Paste text (similar to Galaxy S or iPhone iOS)

One wish for my Desire...
someone can tell me where I can find apk or something similar to add this useful tool to my Desire? It is like the iPhone...
I don't find anything in the market...
Copy/Paste is a built-in feature: select some text, e.g. in a textbox or webpage, click it and hold your finger there for a little while and then a context menu should pop up letting you copy the selection. Next, inside any textbox where you can type manually, click into it and hold your finger there to bring up another popup letting you paste your copied text.
Btw, this is the development forum. I dont think your question fits here.
I think he wants to not press and then select copy but like in the iphone just press in the text. Previous in 2.1 i managed to do this, but now on 2.2 i cant.
There's a free file manager in the Android market called AndExplorer. It's quite a good file manager. It even lets you look in the phone's folders. Copy and paste and all that jazz with this app.
I hope that's what you meant.

It's not. He meant (and said) he wants to copy/paste text, not files.
there is such function in Sence, in 2.2 too. If you want it, use 2.2 with Sence roms.

Save Number During Call

anyone know of a method that addresses this? Perhaps included in cyanogen rom?...
Let's say I'm in the middle of a call and I use the dialpad to enter in a number (customer support usually refers you to different numbers to call), I see the + option that allows you to add that number to a contact or create a new one. I would like to save this number to a text file instead. I know i can just open a notepad and enter it there but it seems more convenient to have an option to save this directly to a file. thanks
nobody has this concern?

I use a pencil.
Seems like a minor inconvenience.

[Q] copy from windows clipboard to android

Is there a way of copying text from the windows clipboard into the android phone? I have Bible notes in a windows program that I want to copy to an android program. they are made by different companies, so the easiest way to copy would be to do a verse by verse copy and paste. However, I don't see how I can use my windows machine to get into the android clipboard.
I tried using droid explorer, but couldn't figure it out. I was able to do a screencast.

Best way to do it is to copy the text on the pc into a txt file, like using notepad. Copy that to your phone, then open it using a file explorer, use that text editor, copy it on the phone, then paste it where you need it.
Yes, every will work. Not sure why I didn't think of that. I guess when you have something stuck in your head, it's sometimes hard to figure out alternatives.
To add on to what's already been said, once you save it as a .txt file and save it to your SD card you can import it into AK Notepad. I'm sure that there are other apps that allow this, but that's the app I use & I know that it works. You can also create a shortcut to the imported file on your homescreen (long-press on the note from within the app and select "pin to homescreen") or add a widget so you can access it easily.

You can also use the Google Chrome to Phone extension and program to push snippets of text from your browser to the phone. I'm finding myself using Evernote more than that lately though. Catch notes, Springpad, or any of the other notepad apps that sync would work. It's nice because it works great both ways -- I can copy something from the phone and create a note, then read it from the PC, or vice versa.
Thanks all. I will use google docs. They already have my information.

Copy and Paste Hotkeys

Hey folks,
I've been able to get by, copy pasting using a long press. But I've noticed that it doesn't work in a number of areas. I had trouble with the native email (not gmail) app. I want to copy a tracking number from the email, but there's no way to do it. I even tried to reply and fwd the email to make the text editable... but no luck.
Long pressing in the email app seems to highlight the text, but no options come up, and the menu button gives me irrelevant settings.
It seems that there is no hardware shortcut or hotkey to copy and paste! This is terrible and so inconvenient.
Does anyone know a way to program the quick keys to perform cut, copy and paste maneuvers? I imagine it would be pretty simple to do. It would finally make good use of those 3 crummy keys.
Thanks

I have no trouble copying from my email... you long press, drag the highlight across your desired text, and then tap quickly... a toast messages appears saying that it was copied to the clipboard...
What ROM are you using?
Edit: Ah, I see you're also running CM7. You should have the capability.

I can copy/paste from gmail without issue by long pressing. But it won't work from the email app that I use for my yahoo account.

Yeah, I can copy/paste from my non-gmail email application too. Mine is AOL, but really it should not matter... that's weird it doesn't work you... lemme try something...
I just tried copying in gmail and it works the same as my other email...

maybe this can help you, it adds a possibility to have hardware copy/paste shortcuts
MENU+A -> select/deselect all
MENU+C -> copy selected
MENU+V -> paste
Thank you for the replies!
I figured it out. The problem I had was that I couldn't perform the copy function in the native email (not gmail) app. I managed to select the text with a long press, but there was no way to copy it to my clipboard... or so I thought. Turns out pressing the trackpad once the text is selected copies it!
And thanks for the app suggestion. I was rooting around the dev guide hoping to map the quick keys to cut, copy and paste. That would make good use of them
EDIT: Sorgo, I can't seem to download that app. Oddly enough I can't download most apps recently because the market claims my device is not compatible. This happened not too long ago. I'm on CM7 #220 running 2.3.7. I thought it was because I had changed my resolution in my build.prop file, but even with a default build.prop, I can't download a thing. Any suggestion there?

Don't know if they found a solution, but these users are too...

I managed to download Z Arrow. I will test it out tomorrow, thank you.
I went back to my default build.prop at 240 lcd density and cleared the market cache. By the way, neither of this two things alone ever worked for me, but together it seems to do the trick and fix the incompatibility issue I mentioned earlier.

OfficeSuite 7 Integration with Dropbox/Drive...

Can anyone tell me why I can execute a doc file by clicking on the doc icon in Dropbox, and the file is able to be edited and saved in OfficeSuite, but when I execute a doc file in Google Drive, it opens as it should in OfficeSuite, it's editable, but cannot be saved?
When I use Drive as my cloud storage, I CAN open a doc stored in Drive from within the app and all works just fine. The problem is when I open a doc from within Drive. Dropbox works fine for this.
I'd rather use Drive for cloud storage and I moved my docs over to Drive. There is a simple utility to opening a doc from within your cloud storage location and having the doc be editable/save-able.
Any ideas?
Not too be dumb, but that happens because it's supposed to be that way. Any type of document that you open within Drive will default to try and have Google Docs open it. I don't think that Google will ever let that default change because they want you to use Google Docs for all your document editing needs.

Not dumb - thanks for the reply!
Yeah - I thought of that, but Google wants their cloud solution to be the place where you store your stuff - all of your stuff. What a pain it is for those of us that have endless numbers of .doc, .ppt, and .xls files, if Drive will assume that each is a native file format, will fail on execution, sending the user back to start-up the originating app and opening the file from there. I would hope that someone at Google would have thought "hmmm... now this wouldn't work well for millions of users".
On the flip side, it's Google, right? So maybe you are correct!
All that I know is, Dropbox is way friendlier place to store your stuff - unless there's something that I am overlooking with Drive.
Thanks again for your thought.
