My girlfriends rooted dinc is going nuts.. the screen will shift from the home screen to the far left and stick there, plus if ur typing a message the keyboard will freeze up and cant do anything, have to do a batt pull. if your on internet or lookign to crop a picture, when u pinch the screen to zoom in, it sticks and then will not un pinch. then freezes up again.. really gets agravating. My dinc (knck on wood) has never had this problem and i had it set up just like hers is.. i have tried to c if diff roms may help and still same problems occur. any ideas on what i can do to resolve this?
Clean the screen and trackpad?

Pons is right, typically that is a condition caused by a dirty trackball.

seems like everytime I open a text message and go to respond, the keys dont work. I can feel the haptic feedback but no text is entered. I have to exit the app and reenter.. Its not only in Messages, but all apps. Other buttons on the screen seem to work, but the buttons do not.
anyone else been noticing this?
Yup!
I've noticed it most typing in the text box of forums... though it is inconsistent.

Yeah mine does that too and it takes a few seconds to get out of the loop then it can type again. Kinda weird wonder if any fix to this.
Keyboard Issues
+1 to this issue
One exception: My keyboard is typing but it doesn't visually show what I'm typing. When I close the keyboard and reopen it the words I typed then show, but nothing typed further will show unless I close the keyboard and reopen it again.......Again this issue is inconsistent.
I've only had this issue since the 2.2 update.
Anyone got a fix yet?
is anyone running the Overclock widget? It seems like once the message pops up "overclock widget has been granted superuser permissions" everything returns to normal... until I go to respond again ahhhhh
i have the same problem i was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it i thought my phone was goin bad really quickly because i like just got it a couple weeks ago but i dont know what the deal is
if i goto messages i can press all the keys and nothin comes up and if i go to landscape the box is gray and i feel it has to kick in later
another problem i have been having is when i click on to call someone itll call them like 20 seconds later instead of immediately anyone else get this problem too?
i find that if I turn the phone into landscape mode, click the bubble, then turn the phone right side up again.. It works... seems more like a software bug then anything.. or something to do with the sensors.
My friend's Evo running stock FroYo has had this problem. I haven't seen it, but I am running a custom rom. I wonder if that makes a difference.

i'm on Fresh 3.1.0.1
Have u guys tried a different keyboard? Like the Droid x keyboard?
I'm on fresh too and I notice this bug. Only in messages though.

I'm running stock froyo and this happens quite often to me as well. If I wait a few seconds after I notice nothing typing on my screen it will eventually catch up and let me type normally again. This happens daily.

What keyboard are people using? I thought it was a Swype thing, but it sounds like the problem is more general.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yea it is a general problem i uninstalled all my keyboards and have the stock one and i still get the same problem
So this has been driving me nuts ever since froyo. I don't recall my phone ever doing this before 2.2
I use Handscent for sms and lets say I open it up and are going through messages while in landscape mode. Once I am done I will hit home and set the phone back down. Then when a message comes in I will pick up the phone and check it and it opens handscent back in up Landscape mode even though I am holding the phone upright. There is at least a second lag before the phone switches it back to the correct position.
This is not just with handscent but any other program that supports landscape. It's really annoying and I have hard reset more than once since froyo. The app remembers what position it was in rather than just dected the correct position in the first place. I have also tried calibrating but the phone knows what to rotate so the rotation works fine it's just the app likes to remember the last position it was in rather than the current. I don't recall this being a problem on 2.1
Is there a way to fix it? It's trying me nuts
I have a friend who also has an evo hardware build 2 (mine is 3) and that phone doesn't take nearly as long as mine. You can still see it remembers the position you of the screen when you go back in, but it flips back rather quickly where mine takes up to 4-5 seconds.
I have tried recalibrating the g-sensor numerous times. Also when I am just rotating the phone back and forth it rotates the screen very quickly, the only time it lags is when I back out of an ap and go back in later.
anyone have any ideas?
Anyone?

Are you running a stock froyo kernel?I have hardware version 002 and am running Netarchy's 4.0.3 kernel over clocked to 1.15 ghz.I can see what you're talking about but my screen rotates to the correct position almost instantly.

I am running everything stock, non-root and no over clocking - I might have to try hard resting again - not sure what else to do

Running Fresh 3.1.0.2 with net's 4.1.8 and I get the same thing with certain apps. No idea why though.
Sent from my FROYO'D EVO using xda app
Well I thought I would post an update - I ended up doing a hard reset. The odd thing is I have hard reset twice since I got the froyo update. However the first 2 times (both times I had the problem with rotation lag) I reset using the settings under SD & phone storage.
When I reset last night I used the bootloader to reset it. The lag is now gone (you can still see it rotate but it's fast now where as before it would take up to 5 seconds to kick in only when going back into an app though)
So anyone else having this problem I would just hard reset using the key combination. I have not recalibrate the g-sensor. I am also keeping an eye on what I install to see if a certain app brings the lag back but so far everything I have installed it seems fine. Not sure what was stuck in the phone or what was going on, I never used a task killer or anything. It was driving me crazy since a lot of time I would back out of an app in landscape and go back in there portrait and it would lag.
So anyway I will report back if it comes back but hopefully it stays gone.

your g-sensor could be going bad. i had a remaned evo i was playing with for a few days that did this and the g-sensor eventually quit working.

It's working now and the only time I had a problem was going back in to an app I left in landscape otherwise it was fast and correct. I think it's a software problem.
I am beginning to notice some screen burn in along the notification bar, and surprisingly enough, the keyboard keys. Is there any way to clear some of the burn in, or maybe prevent more burning?
Hmm get a new phone? But seriously I've noticed some odd shading on mine and any fix for this would probebly help me.

There are programs designed to fix dead pixels by rapidly turning them on and off; I wonder if you could use the same method to fix this problem. Bump out of curiosity.
Not sure if this counts or will work
But on my old psp I had this problem and I left the screen on a.black image for like six hours and it went away
For AMOLED I'm sure it would hafta be a white screen but it may work Idk

Ok so I realize that this is almost positively a hardware issue, however I just wanted you guys' opinion. So its happened 1 or 2 times before but a simple reboot has fixed it usually, until today when it has gotten really bad all of a sudden. The issue is that randomly, my phone will act like it is being touched on the screen and will either select something or not let me touch what I'm trying to touch. In fact as I'm typing this with the phone's keyboard my phone keeps thinking I'm touching the discard button (which I'm not, obviously) And I've noticed that its always in the bottom left corner of the screen in portrait mode. This is causing me to sometimes not be able to move icons or unlock the phone or scroll through pages because the phone thinks I'm like multi touching the screen in the corner. This happened for a while earlier this week until I pulled the battery. Then this morning it got terrible enough that I could barely use my phone at all even after multiple reboots and fixing permissions. I even went so far as odining back to stock EC05 and OTA updating to EL30, from EG22. ( haven't had time to update to an official build until now. ) again it obviously isn't a software issue but I don't know what I should do, like get a new epic (which I really don't want to) even though this hasn't been a problem until very recently and I don't remember anything damaging my phone. Anyways just thought I'd share my problem with you guys to get any suggestions. And sorry for how long the post is.

I have had this happen... wasn't a hardware issue for me, but it may be for you... I fixed it by turning off the screen (locking the phone) and cleaning the screen off thoroughly.... it fixed the issue... it may not fix it for you though... hopefully its that easy... for me it was some dirt or something on the screen making it "think" I was touching that spot when I wasn't... hope that's all it is for you...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Out of curiosity does this only occur while charging or always?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It happens always. On and off the charger. And I don't think its that easy as I had a screen protector on it and I thought it could be something like dirt under the screen protector causing it to freak out but I took off the protector and its still happening. Looks like I need a replacement... ):

if it was hardware, you wouldn't have even been able to type your post from your xda app.
The phone reacts on its own from time to time. When you're in a menu it opens sub menus and starts to turn things on and off in a really fast way. I don't know what to do. It just happens sometimes but then its really annoying. I had this problem with the latest HTC GB and now with the latest official CM 7.2. So I don't think it's a software problem but hardware problem? It just startet to do that one day. I already cleaned the mouse button with an air-spray but it didn't help. Or maybe its a touchdisplay problem?
Any suggestions? Did anyone ever had something like that?
Cheers 41

digitizer problem i think. its the touch section above the LCD which is responsible for detecting touch. its very cheap to get replaced. but i am not sure.

Phantom touches are a digitizer issue usually. There should be a setting in cm7 to show on screen touches. If its showing you touches and your not pushing then replacing the digitizer is your best bet
