I am stuck at checking md5 sums.
I installed Data Service Governer Killer through recovery and got stuck in a boot loop. When I attempt to do any restore, this is where I'm left. Last check it's been an hour.
I am using MIUI 12.24 and have a very recent backup but obviously can't get it to go. I searched the forums here and google to no avail.
If I can get some help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'll be checking back here very often and scavenging the internet for clues.
....OMG no sooner do I post this does it let go and start moving. Son of a....... now to see if I'm fixed of the boot loop.

Sometimes that can take awhile, but I've never had it go more than like 2 to 3 minutes. On thing you may want to keep in mind is when backing up, don't use spaces. I just use the date and a brief name (Ex. 12-30-2010-SenselessBlue). You may do this already, but spaces can screw up the MD5.

I did a search, but, didn't find anything that was quite like my question.
I recently had to return my EVO for warranty work. I was given a new one at the store.
Before I went to the Sprint store, I made a backup using ROM Manager/Clockworkmod that morning. So, I brought my new EVO home, went throught the jailbreak/unlock process, and, installed ROM Manager.
I opened ROM Manager, found the backup I had made, and started the restore process. From all appearances, the restore is going fine. It finishes the process, and I reboot the phone.
At this point, that smooth sailing starts hitting whitecaps. It starts to reboot, but, it never finishes. It's just an endless reboot loop. It will just loop through the intitial reboot screens until the battery is dead. I know, I let it sit that long.
I also had a couple of other, earlier, backups on the SD card. I tried those with the same result. Does anyone have an idea as to why the restore gets stuck in the boot process?
I would really appreciate any help with this. I'm at a loss at this point.
Thanks,
GT
Admins,
Sorry, it just hit me that, while I was searching the Development forum for info on ROM Manager and Clockworkmod, I posted my question to the forum also.
Please move to the appropriate forum. My apologies; I obviously was on autopilot when I posted.
Thanks,

Your issue is that your new phone is not the same as your old one. Your backups will not work cross devices.

I hope you removed the wimax.img from clockwork before backing it up.. not sure if the version of clockwork you used had the ability to backup your 4g keys....
Be careful and if you got the new Evo then I would suggest Amon

Thank you for the replies. I appreciate you taking time to answer.
The answers have led to a couple of follow-up questions. First, is there any sort of workaround for restoring a Clockworkmod backup onto another device?
Second, I have to admit to no knowledge of the issue of removing a wimax.img file, and, whether or not the version of Clockworkmod I used made a backup of the files.
Thanks again for the help.

More than likely you have different hardware. Clockwork backups will not work on different devices. Backups are device spefic.
Best bet is going to be to unroot, flash stock pc36img. Reroot flash rom of choice (virus Mytouch port ). Youre going to have to start over. That will give you the best chance of success.
Use titanium backup for apps and back contacts to google for if this were to happen again.
3 days ago I successfully rooted my epic4g which came stock from sprint with EC05 and thn flashed it w/ Syndicate Frozen Rom 1.1.0 fully loaded w/ Clockwork 3.0. Everything was working great until recently tonight. I first noticed my call log menu was not there and it seems my battery was dying quicker all of a sudden. Then I received a call from my friend, i answered it as normally. After the call it started saying my "TwLauncher (process com.sec.andriod.app.twlauncher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and "Google Services Framework (processcom.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly)
so i press force close and now it is in a loop. I reboot my phone and now on boot it tells me the same and I am in a loop. Now here I am asking for help. My phone can still boot into clockwork.. I would like to know if there is anything I can do without losing data... Please help with any suggestions of what I should do. If I lose data then so be it, but I would like not to. Thank you!
Exact Same Problem
I have the exact same problem too. I root the phone early yesterday and flashed the frozen rom (using the same versions as you indicate). I like the rom and the phone worked all day yesterday great. This morning, as soon as I turn the phone on, it goes into a loop indicating "TwLauncher (process com.sec.andriod.app.twlauncher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I press the Force Close button, but before I can bring my home page up or even power off, the message keeps popping up. I am forced to pull the battery to turn it off.
What's up with this rom?
Wipe then flash another rom

Nothing's "up" with it - clearly you had bad data to begin with or did something crazy like pull your battery for no reason.
Wipe data, reflash, then take a backup in CWM and restore it to turn journaling on.
I will try the reflash.
When you indicated "do something crazy like pull your battery for no reason", what did you mean? It appeared that the phone was in a loop where I couldn't get it to boot up or turn it off. Was there another option for me at that point?
Also, would you mind explaining journaling a little? What does it do? Is the only way to turn it on if you flash, take a backup in CWM, and then restore?
thanks and sorry for the noobie questions...

Journaling is like write verifies. It writes to your phone twice to make sure there is a backup of data. If there is an improper shutdown like battery pull or lockup then with journaling off, some data is not properly written back to the phone thus data corruption. There are other ways of turning on journaling with adb but the backup/restore is the easiest.
If there are FCs only in TWlauncher, go to setings>applications>manage applications>all scroll down to twlauncher, open it and hit clear data. It will fix the fc but you will lose your homescreen setup. If you have a backup in Titanium of it, restore the data from the backup to get them back.
Very interesting... Thanks for the replies. The suggestions in this thread are very helpful and I figured that is what I had to do. But this morning when I woke up, my phone seemed to fix itself... I received a text during my sleep and in the morning when I went to see the message, everything seemed normal w/ syndicate rom still installed. I still seemed to lose my call log under the contacts menu but my phone works now. Is there an app to get my call log back where it was?? or to re-enable it on my menu?
thanks too for the replies.
One more question on the journaling...
When I reflash and it's complete, does it matter if I do the backup/restore before or after rebooting the system?
thanks again

When you reflash, boot your system first, make sure everything works fine and then do the backup/restore to enable journaling. You don't have to boot between backup and restore.

There is no log? look in settings>applications>manage applications>all and scroll down to see if you have logsprovider.apk. You can restore data from a titanium backup to that app if you have one. If that file is missing, something happened in the flash. I am not sure if you need a special one for your ROM, you can ask in the development thread for that ROM or you can try and flash this one which has the sms data removed from the call log:

Fantastic!
Ok... here's the deal. I just decided to switch roms finally to see what is new out there. I had been running an old version of Uber Kingdom. Here is the problem I am having. It is boot looping. Relatively simple problem to fix usually. But wait, there's more! It is boot looping in every single rom I install. Sometimes it won't boot to clockwork properly either and I have to pull the battery. Is there someway I can fix this? Or is this a hardware problem (which I kind of doubt)? I just don't understand what the heck is going on. I have been flashing different roms left and right for the past few hours trying to get this thing to stabilize. Sometimes it will boot up into the rom, I will get mostly through the google accounts setup, and then it will restart, and then loop. Other times it won't even get past the white incredible screen, and then sometimes it will make it into the rom splash screen. I have attempted to install CM7 nightly, Uber kingdom, and Synergy so far. I can flash the new rom, I can mount the SD card in clockwork, but then it begins to loop again as soon as I leave clockwork.
Let me know if you need any other information.
Is there a way to just completely redo EVERYTHING, clockwork, rom, everything, just to make sure I have a nice clean slate?
Thanks a ton for reading through this novel. I am extremely frustrated.
~Will
PS, I may not get back to this thread until morning. I have to get to sleep for work. Sorry if I don't respond right away to information requests. Thanks again!
If you can mount the SD card, download the stock RUU from www.dougpiston.com, put it on the root of the SD card named exactly PB31IMG.zip, and boot into hboot to install it. Your phone should be restored to stock, a clean slate.
Tried a different SD?

How are you downloading and flashing the ROM? I had this problem when trying to do everything through Rom Manager. Even trying to flash in recovery with a ROM downloaded through ROM Manager would loop.
Update
Well, I was just getting ready to flash the original RUU when I tried one last time to restore my old Uber rom setup and it worked (whereas the last 3 times of doing exactly the same process didn't). It stopped looping at least, even though I am still running the same rom I was before. I think tonight I am still going to attempt to flash the RUU anyway and start over anew.
To answer the questions before, No, I did not try a different SD. I didn't know it could make that much difference. Still on the original one that came with the phone.
As the downloading and flashing process goes, I was downloading direct from the XDA forums on my laptop, then transferring the files via USB. I have never really liked using the Rom Manager. It cuts me out of the XDA loop and I don't get to see all the bleeding edge discussions, etc...
So I will try to flash everything new tonight, and then post my results for anyone who is curious. Thanks for the help guys!
I need some help trying to figure out why I cannot do anything really anymore in recovery, I was running darkside rom and switched over to Mind Trick. After a successful flash I attempted to back up the new rom before I started adding on apps and add ons that are posted in the OP, While trying to do the back up it just hangs now, it will get a certain point (usually checking ms5 or whatever it is) and wont go any further, the same happens when I try to install any zip from recovery, it will say installing whatever i try, but it just hangs there and never installs anything. I have tried to flash the touch recovery but have no luck with that either. Also, if I try to restore from backup it just hangs or fails so I am kinda stuck where I am .Another thing I noticed is my reception has gone down, I did not flash any radio before the rom as I had to with Darkside because it did not say to in the OP so Im wondering if that has anything to do with the poor reception. People have told me that when they try to call my phone they just a busy signal but all the text messages seem to come through fine and I have good data speeds, I am kinda stuck on this one, I usually figure out the solution but this time Im really stumped. I would appreciate any help or ideas you may have and I will be sure to thank you. Thanks.

No, I'm no familiar with what goo.im is so I am going to look into that now and then if all else fails I will try odin. I had tried about a month or so to install the version 6 of Mind Trick and ended up soft bricked for a minute until finally I was able to flash a very old recovery that was on the sd and I got lucky and it ended up making all the way through successfully so i just updated my apps and let it ride until now and decided to flash the version 7. It flashed that rom ok but now I am seeing the results of not figuring out what my problem was back then i guess. I appreciate your help. Thank you
Hey guys. I just updated to Wicked Sensations 1.2 from 1.1. I used 1.1 for a few weeks and loved it, naturally I wanted 1.2 when it came out and I read the changelog. So I downloaded it, put it on the ext SD card. Booted to Clockwork Mod Recovery. I did a Nandroid backup. Then I wiped data 3 times, wiped Dalvik cache 3 times, and then installed from zip file. The install went great. I rebooted after it was done and the rom launched fine. I went through the initial setup and restored my Nova Home Screen settings. Then I went to try out the included Wifi Tether app. I launched it, it asked for root access, I granted it. Something didn't work as it was initializing, so I closed it and rebooted the phone, just to make sure all of it's processes were killed and my normal wifi would work normally. On reboot, the phone decided it needed to "Upgrade Apps". So I waited about an hour and it never left that screen. It didn't show me any sort of progress like it had before either when it optimized apps for Jellybean coming from ICS. So I popped the battery out. Now I'm doomed. Stuck on the boot screen with the "SAMSUNG" text with the animated glow effect. I also can't seem to get it into recovery mode to restore any of my backups.
Any thoughts? I'm fairly new to this so don't rule out dumb mistakes. Also, I noticed in the Wicked Sensations 1.2 instructions that I could have upgraded without doing a full data wipe, but it said to do a full wipe and clean install if you had any trouble with the upgrade, so I don't think that is the cause of my problems. Do I need to turn to Odin?
You have a soft brick since you can get up the boot logo screen....time to bust out Odin to save the day.

Thanks a bunch. I wasn't sweating too bad since I could turn it off and on and see a spark of life in it. Thanks for the link too. I'll confirm success or failure later tonight after a good few hours drive back home.
That fixed it for me. Thanks again.
