i just picked up a Dash yesterday... so far im likin the phone and itll definitely hold me off till i get my tilt.. anywho... today while i was on a call i recieved a text and midcall my txt alert tone started playin and i couldnt even hear who i was talkin to any longer.... i didnt find anything in the settings to stop that so im guessing there might be a registry edit or something to fix that... is there one or was that a one time error that probably wont happen again?
noone has the same issue? its extremely annoyin now.. midcall the phone just starts playin my sms alert tone really loudly..
Dont know, happens to me all the time but never seen a fix
best thing
the only thing you can do to stop that is to put your msg tone on vibration. Hope this helps
theres a setting in accessibilty, then goto in-call alert and just turn it down or off

that is extremely odd. Thank god I haven't run into that issue. i would go insane -.-
Haha thanks... this is working like a charm now... thanks once again...
djdant, thanks so much. This was driving me nuts. I know this is an old post but thanks all the same.
Hi Guys,
I was wondering, has anyone played with the registry or seen an app that will mute the SMS Ringtones??
I had WM5, WM6, and i currently have WM6.1, if I have a longer sms ringtone, when i receive the ringtone will keep playing, even tho i read the sms and replied....
Is this normal?
Can I somehow Fix it?
Thanks,
Have a Great Day!
How is that a bug ?! Make a shorter ringtone!!! Problem solved!
DUH!!
In this day and age, do we even have to say that anymore?!?
I mean COME ON.
IT is a Bug!
its a bug because how come on other phones, when a txt message arrives, if u press any button, the ringtone immediately stops????
Na its not a bug its how the dash reads the file.
I would really like this "feature" added as well. Or a way to implement it with a registry edit, etc.
I use a very long, beeping sound byte for my text message arrival sound. The reason I do this is for work purposes. I receive pages to my mobile phone. If I receive the page and then start to view the new text, it would be nice if the sound would stop playing automatically.
I realize that this thread has been buried for sometime now, but I recently discovered this problem as well, and wanted to see if anyone has come to any resolution to this (besides the ones that say make it shorter etc etc). A real resolution like a reg edit or something of the sorts. Thanks.
its common sense make it shorter.. jus time it.. um cmon

You obviously missed my posting. I want to be able to hit a button, and make it stop. I realize that making it shorter will fix this, but that's not what I'm after. There is apparantly no fix for it as of yet, and your answer would be the obvious, but again, not what I was looking for. Thanks for not even reading my post.
no problem thats why lm here lol

do you know why when i add guns n' roses - november rain (9:12 long) as my text beep, it plays for 9 [email protected]!#[email protected]
jk man...honestly its not a bug...its the length of the file...there is software you can cut up mp3's with to make them the length you want. i ran across something today...let me go see if i can find it...ill send it to you if you want. let me know.

LOL, I understand that its not a bug within the Excalibur itself, but any other (as a matter of fact EVERY other) cell phone I have ever come across, (roughly 30 or so) has had that feature. Yes, thats what we'll call it... a FEATURE. Ok, so, let me rephrase my whole posting.....
Has anyone come across any software that will add the FEATURE of making the "file" stop playing by a key press? If so, I would greatly appreciate it... Thanks.
Example:
If im upstairs, and I don't hear the phone, and come back downstairs, then I would love to hear the end of the 3 or 4 minute song thats playing to let me know I received a text message. I'm not going to just go check it every time just because I just came back downstairs. Now if the phone is in my hand, I would love to just be able to push a key and make it stop. That simple.

yea man...other phones might...this does not. i offered a tool for you to create and chop files. you dont want it...thats cool man. take care
Ok, good to know we're all on the same page. Thats just it, I don't want to make it all small, its kinda like it was in my example. For that reasoning... Sort of.

What do you mean you tryed shorter? Just use the default text alert to see if it carrys on in a loop? If not already tried this?
The .wav or .mp3 will not stop untill the sound plays out if it is long.

Yes i do but what is the prognosis please be a bit more specific on what is wrong when you use the default message tone.
Stylez, is it just me, or are you completely confused with what the problem is too?
So from what I've read, the message tone starts, doesn't loop(start over), but it never ends. So has it grown artificial intelligence and refuses to stop when it reaches the end? and just keeps making up new tones so that the party continues on and on and on....
I'm totally misunderstanding the problem here I think
I don't think he understands what you are asking (LOOPING). Might I suggest not using any sound notification at all then. Change your settings to no sound notification. (SIMPLE) or you can try Vibrate Notification - if the vibrate loops too then you will have to turn that off as well. (Looping refers to once the track has reached it's end, it starts over again, and again and again and again................................................. If it is not looping, then the track will stop playing once it has reached the end. A song can be only so long. I have never found a song that lasts forever; however, there are some Pink Floyd Songs that are over 20 minutes. ***DONT USE THOSE***
This is the best I can suggest since I haven't used your device. I have the Touch Elf.

Hotrod101 maybe i need to leave the terminology @ home surely everyone know what a loop is??? so if i ing what's it do???
Alright guys, I think I know what he's trying to say.
I've had this similar problem before.
I think this is what he's trying to say...
1)He set a custom alert,(a song), for his text message.
2)He gets a text, and bingo - it starts playing his selected ringtone.
3)So he picks up his phone, goes to the text message, and wouldn't you know? The ringtone won't stop playing even though he's clarified with the OS that he's acknowledged the message, (therefore expecting the ringtone to stop). Hell, he may even be creating a response to the message already, but the alert still won't stop....
4)So what does he do? He sets a shorter ringtone; shortens the length of the song, hoping it'd make a difference.
5)BUT, it doesn't. Why? I believe this is because that is one flaw in the dash's OS, (if you wanna call it that). Even though you may have acknowledged the new text message, it will stay play THE FULL LENGTH OF THE ALERT you have assigned it.
EX) Phone says, "I have a new text?!, play the designated alert! What? You already know you have a new text message? I don't care mufucka, I got a job to do, and that's play the full [length] alert I was told to play!"
If you notice, the pre-installed text message alerts, are relatively short.
So did the programmers just say, "f-it, we can't seem to make it so the alert stops playing once a message is read/acknowledged, so we'll just install short alerts", who knows.
Ok, I got this now, since you explained it. Let me put this so even mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm can understand.
Hey mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,
you have to useeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee a short tone, not a long one, because it will playyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy until it finishes the whole toneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee............
So use the one of the defaulttttttttttttt tonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnessss if you can't make a shorter one yourselffffffffffffffffffffffff. did you get it mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??????????????????????????????
Don't use long tonessssssss like you like to make long wordsssssssssssss.

I have come to the conclusion that there are a lot of first timers here who don't know much about electronics, computers, let alone these WM devices; therefore; they are not familiar with simple terminologies, or even basic operations of our devices. We don't know anything about this guy.
I mean no disrespect to you or the individual who created this thread.
but you must have seen some of these seemingly rediculous posts / questions -
Not that this one is rediculous
I have answered some peoples questions (Simple to me) but not to them - How do I install a cab? I downloaded the cab but cannot install it because it is zipped and when I unzip it is is not there? My weather app displays the wrong temperature? (this was a matter of this user having to change his weather settings from Celcius to Ferhenheit.) We are all learning as we go, some of us have been in the game a lot longer then others. Those just starting out (NOOBS as they are sometimes referred as) have to learn somehow eventually. Even those who have years and years of experience and education can get confused, over think things, or just plain forget. Sometimes out of frustration, we cannot see the obvious. That is why these forums are so great. We can ask for help from others who will be objective.
I have never seen this problem before and it may be a legitimate problem (Who knows) It is interesting to me to find out and learn about it because maybe it might happen to me.

This is one of those problems that was always there but wasn't big enough for me to remember to comment about. Now it became big enough.
I was at a wedding over the weekend. Priest comes in before the service starts, remind people of a few ground rules and remembering to turn off mobiles. I had my phone on a meeting profile (basically something from my Nokia days - a very quiet beep for notifications and no vibrate) but I thought, what the hell, let me just turn it off completely.
So I did. Phone off. To the inside jacket pocket it went.
Wedding service starts. Bride comes in. Everyone sits. To my embarassment, on sitting I hear the Quietly Brilliant intro jingle. I'm think a combination of WTF and "Oh for **** sake!"
The Desire is waaaay too easy to turn on! It should definitely be a long press to turn it on not a regular tap which can happen at any time. I ended up putting it back on my meeting profile as that was a safer way to keep it quiet. This shouldn't have to happen.
I've thought that too. Fortunately not had any issues like that but do agree. I think this will be fixed when silicon cases get here in abundance!
It annoys the hell out of me too.
If you turn the phone off in silent mode then you don't get it when you turn back on but you need to remember to do that,
I think there is an app that does this automatically - sure someone will post the name of it...
Silent Boot is the answer to your problem.

Hhmmm. Deliberately misunderstanding the point of the OP topic? I read this and sympathised, have had a few instances myself when phones have turned on in awkward situations myself.
Appreciated the answer. Have installed Silent Boot and am less worried I might get caught out in future.

I was tempted to simply diss this individual but let me just politely respond.
1. If this is the most stupid post you have ever seen, then feel happy you only read post written by like-minded people.
2. It would also seem that like-minded people to CerB would believe that design concerns like turning on and off a device are non-concerns. In the current market, let's be honest, there is a huge amount of overlap in smartphone function. And Apple have shown that even selling a sub-par phone can be successfull when you do things like make a "tiny" thing like how the phone transitions from screen to screen a pleasure.
I'm guessing if you CerB were a boss, and someone came to you to spend time making screen transitions really slick, you would have sacked them.
3. What exactly is "ROOOOOOOOOOOOOFL"? I understand ROFL, but not what you put.
As zzleezz indicated, there was really no need for your post, or the tone. But, like I seek to get on these forums, maybe you can get educated.
Maybe ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOFL was him falling down the stairs?? lol!!
download the mute app off the market.. mutes everything.. in one touch, also if its activated and you turn your phone off when it reboots it does not make the startup sound. not perfect but an easy workaround.

That's how it should work.
However, I don't think that this solves the topic starter's problem completely. Silent Boot will mute the bootup sound but, since your phone is on, you will get notifications of other events such as text messages, as Silent Boot will turn up the volume again after boot (although that might happen only if the volume was turned up before shutting down). So, you might still disturb wedding ceremonies with those notifications.
I had a Hero beore Desire, and find it quite annoying that they decided to place the powerbutton on top of the phone. When I put the phone in my jeans pocket, or when I take it out, it turns on the screen and I have found it to starting apps and all kinds. On the Hero the powerbutton was much better placed, imo. Not quite the same thing as OP, but related to the powerbutton, and how easy it is to accidentaly push it.
Only issue with SilentBoot is that it restores your previous settings after boot, so your phone can turn on silently without you knowing, then your awesome ringtone can steal the show instead of the boot music.
That works around the sound, but not the issue of the phone being very easy to turn on. The button placement is pretty bad to start with, and isn't recessed, so is very easy to press accidentally. I had mine turn on on a plane - cue lots of "there's always one" glances from nearby passengers... I wonder if this is something that could be tweaked somehow if there is some flash setting for a dwell time on the power button.

I hav had the almost esact same problem! quite embarising at times
Whenever I make or receive a call, I see my in-call volume at maximum level! I don't understand why it keeps doing this? I noticed this problem on all 3 of note 2. I keep adjusting to low but randomly just gets reseted to max again. Anyone else having the same issue with T-Mobile Note 2?
Update: finally found the culprit of this problem. The app "Tango" video chat messes with the in-call volume. Once account & app was uninstalled even after the reboot in-call volume setting never changed. Everything stayed as I left it and no more random MAX in-call volume.
Video to show what Tango is doing to my in-call volume.
Nobody has this issue? how come all 3 of my Note 2 has this issue =/
Anyone?
Sorry, this doesn't help but I usually keep my in-call volume at max so I haven't noticed this.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know how you keep the volume at max.. maybe it's just my phones but it's too painfully loud for me.
Would you mind trying to lower the call volume to lowest setting and restart the phone? See if the call volume goes back to max, I would really appreciate that.
For whatever the reason, the volume setting is not getting saved. So annoying since everytime i answer a call, it's trying to blow my eardrums out!
I'm guessing nobody has this in-call volume issues on their T-mobile Note2? Should I be considering an exchange....??
Just FYI multiple post saying anyone? Anyone? Pple just find annoying. Not trying to be rude. But from what I noticed from posts from other forums. Is when pple do that. They will never receive help or a reply from someone. Especially when the OP keeps doing that all in the same day.
Sometimes if you want help. You need patience. Especially here on xda. Pple here don't live there lives to help you. Right when you make a new post. Sometimes it could take days or even a week or two. But I'm positive if you don't do multiple post like this. And wait or even search the web. Even user a different phone. You will find ur answer. Remember google is ur best friend.
Anyways I don't no if its because of my rom or not but mind keeps going to vibrate and I have to keep turning it back to sound + vibrate
Oh ya you also have to be detailed when asking questions. Are you rooted or not. Stock or flashed a rom. Which rom. ...you get the point. The more you tell use the more likely a chance someone will help you. If you choose not to look it up urself
My bad, wasn't trying to be annoying or anything. I searched around in many different forums but still no answers and didn't get any replies on this issue, even the t-mobile support didn't know what was causing this issue. I guess I was running thin on patience.
I'm running all on stock and all 3 devices does this. T-Mobile sales rep said maybe it's part of the feature.. But we all know that's b/s. Changing in-call volume randomly doesn't sound much like a great feature to me....

Ya unfortunately that sucks. If you were rooted I would say try to flash a different rom. But since ur not my best guess would be to search around for an app that has something to do with volume/ in call volume. There's an app for everything these days. Ur just gunna have to read all the details in every volume app you can find. I'm sure there's something. Good luck. If you happen to find something. Post it hear in case others run into the same problem as you in the future.
Am I the only one with this problem? I wish some of the same device/carrier users would give me some feedbacks so I can figure out what to do....
you talking about in call volume or ringer volume? if its in call volume im pretty sure that if i lower it during a phone call it stays that volume even on the next call
im not 100% sure though...and im not sure if it stands through a reboot but i am pretty sure...cause i dont leave my in call volume on max because it is quite loud and distorted...if it always went back up to max i probably wouldve noticed..again not 100% sure

It's the in-call volume. I have no idea what's causing this... When I lower the volume it will stay that way only for that call and next call or sometimes even during the call volume goes up to max randomly. It's driving me nuts cause it's so loud and I can't even answer the call without worrying its gonna blow my eardrums!
I tried restoring factory but that didn't help and all three of my Note 2 do this so I'm lost here. Not like I rooted and modified anything, all is in stock.
Would you mind trying to put in-call volume to lowest and rebooting the phone? See if it goes back to max by default. That's how mine is set to every reboot.

It does this all randomly. Setting will stay that way for awhile and all of sudden max volume.

try this
go to dialer -> call settings -> my call sound...there are 2 options that might help you...one for sound settings (maybe choosing one of them will help you) or personalize call sound..that one asks you to plug in ear phones..im not sure what happens after you run that test and if it only applies to earphones but you can try it

Why would it do that... It's not suppose to. I never had that issue with ATT Note, N7000 and i9300... I get the feeling many people just don't pay too much attention to it and when it does go up, people just lower the volume and forget about it.
Whatever the reason setting of the in-call volume isn't being saved. And something is making it to go back to default. Just don't know what though...
Keep your eye on that volume, and check if it goes up randomly.
P.S. I really appreciate the replies, been waiting for awhile.

Yeah, I really didn't want to annoy anyone but this little bug was driving me insane. Spending hours with T-Mobile tech supports weren't even helpful either. I hope it isn't a defective unit... Please let me know if you notice this issue! Thanks again =)
I think I found the culprit. Seems like "Jays headset control" app was causing this issue. It was never an issue on any other device but not sure why it's causing on note2. I uninstalled the app yesterday and so far problem hasn't come back yet. Time will tell but so far so good.
Thanks for looking and replying to my post. I can finally relax!
Update: wasn't jays app... Still having issue.
