Okay, I did a good search and can't find a simple, straight answer for this so I figured I would ask.
What is the best way to speed up my verizon touch pro 2 running WM 6.5. It lags when I try to text and even just going through menus, I don't want to add anything crazy, just something that will make everything run quicker if that is possible. If anyone can help me out here, I would much appreciate it!
I think its several ways to optimize your device speed.
Try to choose new custom fast firmware.
Try to minimize RAM load-look at running apps.
Try overclocking tools.
Try registry hacks.
Try to shout at device "FASTER FASTER"
lol the best advice was "faster faster"
Disable TF3d, or even better, use a 6.1 rom and disable Touchflo.
Okay, thanks for the tips. I will definately trying yelling FASTER at it but if that doesn't work I will try the others

Take A Look At This Thread I Think It Will Solve Your Problems --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887469
That works really well. Thanks Doo Doo
It really shouldn't lag all that bad, unless you have hundreds of messages that need to load.
I personally wouldn't overclock the CPU until I have tried all other options. It's got to have an impact on battery and stability. I've overclocked my devices in the past and most of time it was more trouble than I was willing to live with.
Did you try to HR ? Most time a severe system lag is a sign of screwed up registry. Another issue is available memory.
You can free up lots of RAM by disabling the default Start menu and replacing it with something smaller and faster. I use QuickMenu and WKTask combo.
Finally, switching from Sense to Titanium speeds things up another bit, and Titanium is surprisingly useful when you install a few "missing" plugins (Application launcher (CLauncher), Favorite People, Titanium Weather, Stock tickler plugin).

I just got a brand new HTC Touch Pro 2 less than a week ago and I find it rather slow at times.
How can I increase the overall-speed of my phone?
Thank you.
You'll find LOTS of tweaks here. Start searching and reading...
For me the most noticable speed improvements came from:
Turn off ClearType.
Disable PushInternet.
Don't use sense (I use SPB mobile Shell).
There are many others that will have more subtle effects. Like I said, start reading...
turn off sense, use titanium, or some other light weight replacement
i used iPhoneToday and use it to replace Sense, it freed up 20mb program memory on my TP2 and everything is just a lot smoother.
Non of the custom roms are fast enough for me with Sense on.

Jack, go ahead and run the two cabs I have attached here, they'll do a lot to improve the memory management on your TP2. That will help the phone free up resources when an app or program is done with them. The first one is one of the 3 things that IMissPalmOS mentioned above ("no push internet").

Welcome to forums
if you donĀ“t mind to loose Sense and you want to really increase speed and performance go and flash a WM6.1 cooked ROM
That way your Rhodium will fly!!

Thanks for those. I remember seeing those cabs before but wasn't sure what they did. I'm still not really sure what they do but tried them anyway and they did free up some ram.

The "no push internet" cab turns off the real-time cacheing of web data, and the "dynamic resource proxy" makes a simple registry change that lets the phone free up memory better when apps and processes are done using it.
HTC released a signed rom with sense 2.5 that is the fastest overall rom I have ever used. It just flies man. I use the European version but my buddy told me they released an American version recently. Either one will work just the same. This rom can be found in the rom developement section or on HTC's site. You wont be dissapointed. The only thing I added was duttys task manager because they didnt include it with the rom. Im talking about the task manager in the upper right hand corner. Here is the cab for that if you decide to flash that rom. I highly reccomend it cause of the speed and stability. Its the best. PM me if you have any questions.
thanks
hey guys thanks for the advise i was having the same issues with enery rom its so full of stuff that it bogs down now and then these tweeks helped alot
hey i tried installing these cabs but it didn't really speed up my phone? did i do something wrong?
how do i turn off cleartype?
Rom Version 1.20.531.4 WM6.1
Thank you to everyone!
I download the two cab files and they helped speed up my T-Mobile TP2.
I was wondering? I have rom version 1.20.534.4 and would like to keep WM6.1. Am I able to upgrade my rom while keeping WM6.1 and is it worth while?
Thank you in advance for any useful information!

Need help with slow downloading speed!
I have a t-mobile touch pro 2 running Windows 6.5 and already tweaked it with regedit and did the overclock cab and doing fine at 768. Yes the phone is much faster responding but downloading is still too slow. Did a hard reset days before the tweaks and was downloading fast then just slowed down again so I tried the tweaks to help but no success, can anyone help
gotta say I was about to give up on my Tp2 after years of loyal service, just felt so pokey next to my wifes HTC Incredible.
Then I decided what the hell, since I was gonna bail on it anyway I tried (for the first time) HardSPL and a custom rom, in this case MightyROM.
Anyway, its faster, a *lot* faster than any stock VZW rom I ever had (and due to my faithfulness to the TP2 platform Ive tried em all over the years) and it seems very optimized for speed. The only caveat is that it uses the WM6.5 start menu instead of the usual HTC one but that was no big deal for me, and Im sure helps reduce overhead. The phone boots up with 45%-50% memory used, compared to the usual 65% on the VZW roms.
So looks like I'll keep this a while longer, thanks MightyMike! Wish Id tried flashing a long time ago!
PS: I tried WinMoSpeed before flashing and noticed little diff, even @768.
MightyRom is definitely noticeably faster in comparison.
The TP2 is old...It's life is over...get a new phone and move on...
I still have one and my screen is cracked but, there is nothing in Windows Mobile that Verizon has that is any good right now, so Asurion cant help right now
Hey guys, you might have seen I have posted on here requesting help with ROMs and suggestions for which ones and so on. Now, I'm gonna attempt to help everyone else out there. I use my phone a lot (mainly between texting and internet), and here is my breakdown of various UI's
Sense - great looks, however it slows down very fast after only receiving a few texts and emails. People who go easy on there phones would like this.
Titanium - Simple, probably one of the fastest, responsive, overall great. However I found the usage of it to be kinda harder because you don't have as many options on the Today page. Yes this is customize able, but I went away from it. I wanted something that was all there.
MaxSense - This looks AMAZING. When I first saw someone post something about it a couple weeks ago I looked into it and I basically loved it. However, at this point it is still glitchy and buggy. I would love to see how it looks like in a month or two! Also, I can't add as many widgets as I would have liked too. Don't get me wrong this is an amazing work in progress! I mean, hey, It's free, I can't really complain am i right? haha
SPB Mobile Shell - My dad bought this a while ago, and I asked him to install it. It was basically MaxSense, but not nearly as buggy and it didn't take up as much memory AND there are more availability for widgets! Down side, you got to bust out 30 dollars for it. I am now looking into customizing SPB and options are looking good. Also, for Mobile Shell, I flashed a clean rom to let it run faster. Also, I use wm6.5.5 with the Start menu at the bottom, I am looking for a "widget" that would emulate the Start menu because It doesnt show at the bottom due to Mobile Shell's interface which overlaps it. I realized you don't really need to use it, but it would be kinda nice. Currently I am looking for the Slide Clock (like the Android/Sense clock) as opposed to the standard Mobile SHell clock. Links would be nice guys
Everything has its ups and downs, I hope I helped some people out there in an easy breakdown of what I have gone through the past month or so.
this might be something you are interested in...it is my favorite SPB theme/skin/widget pack.

Yeah, well I meant like the general categories of ROMs, woops
NRGZ rom with spb or deepshining?
Hey guys,
Currently waiting for NRGZ's rom with maxsense to finish downloading. I'm running the latest deepshining rom and was wondering do you think my rhodeo 300 would be faster if I loaded spb shell with energy rom?
Or should I just keep shining and run spb shell over that?
If i were you I would just run something cleaner over it. For example, the Energy Titanium ROM. But if you like the apps and stuff on DeepShining and don't want to change, thats one thing. Just a suggestion. Good luck
I use default WM today and since then I dont have problems with speed or memory...
This is exactly my thinking. I really like the Spb Shell because it has the left and right scroll like Android. I love wallpaper, so I only applied widgets to the left and right home screens. Since I had flashed my first rom, I had been looking for a clean rom to run Spb Shell on. I really wanted to try Freyberry's Barebone but have not found a working link yet. Anyway, I'm using Energy MaxSense and I like it alot. It has the scrolling wallpaper which is key for me . Besides the preinstalled widgets it only lets you add 3 other widgets I believe. Spb let's you turn all icons into widgets. It would be great if you could more thoroughly integrate the shell into the rom, not just preinstall it. I look forward to your rom and will be among the first to try it.
With all that said, what ROM would you suggest as a "clean" ROM to run SPB MS on? And what exactly is "clean"? Obviously I need messaging, GPS, camera, and many of the other pre-installed software. I'm new to this.

By clean I think most people think "bug free and runs smooth"
I have heard that the Jacko "old school" ROM is pretty clean. NRG sometimes makes a "Titanium" ROM that does not have Sense cooked in, I have used that one with Mobile Shell with good results. He only burns it occasionally, but whatever is out there should be OK to use.

I'm new to this forum myself. I guess 'clean' is a generic term, but what I mean by clean is free of all unnecessary clutter because I'm sure that Spb Shell will consume it's fair share of ram. Of course, what is 'clutter' is determined by the indivdual. I want it to run as close to a native OS as possible without interference.
Hi, I have a Verzion TP2 and finally took the plunge to do the VZW WM6.5 upgrade.
Bad decision! I'm experiencing really slow performance and reduced battery life.
I like some of the new features, but the slow performance is not acceptable.
Anyone have any good advice for speeding things up? I know disabling sense UI will help, but then it would just be another crappy WM UI phone.
I did some searching here and wasn't able to find much. (Admittedly I didn't spent tons of time looking.)
Help is greatly appreciated! TIA!
Just put a custom rom on your phone and most of your problems are solved. And believe me, you never want to go back to stock.
THanks for the info. Not certain that I want to go away from stock because my carrier (Verizon) may get quite cranky & not want to support me or service my phone if something goes wrong.
I have an unbranded European version of the phone on the UK Vodafone network, so I'm not sure how much help I can be. But I thought I would offer some advice based on my own experiences.
Firstly I assume the version of WM6.5 you upgraded to is the Sense 2.1 version and not Sense 2.5? I remember when I first upgraded I immediately noticed a big slowdown in comparison to the WM6.1 version which flew. If it's any help, you'll soon learn to live with the slowdown and eventually it will become "normal" and it's only when you downgrade you'll realise the difference.
In terms of speeding up the device there is not much you can do, apart from reduce the ram usage. There are a couple of cabs which significantly lower the ram usage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
Secondly you might want to install an app called "memmaid" or "sktools" and disable certain processes and apps from starting up. Admittedly I don't really know what most of these processes do, but I've generally found these ones are ok to disable:
certenroll
notificationmanager
htcsipsrvc
gpsprivacy
softwaredisable
htcservices
dtpt
sqmupload
btagsvc
ssw
ussd
htcap
The same goes for startup applications where I have found these are ok to disable. (ignore the apps that are not installed on your device)
poutlook
speedbmonitor
delwmptempfolder
htcstartup
pkg
spbmobileshell (I have a switcher between this and Sense interface so dont need it on startup)
memmaidtweaks
superstarter.exe
Also, I remember seeing certain apps u can download from here that strip certain branded roms of all the bloatware. As my Touch Pro 2 is not branded, I've never used one and don't have any knowledge on them. But I'm sure someone on here will gladly point you in the right direction for a Verizon one. (If it indeed exists)
You might also want to install "advancedconfig" where you can tweak certain things in your phone to speed it up a bit.
I realise you don't want to go down the custom rom route, but unfortunately it may the only way to achieve what you want. I've now customised my official WM6.5 Sense 2.1 rom to how I want it (whilst waiting for my upgrade so I can switch to something like the HTC Desire on Android) and therefore don't use a custom rom, but I've tested the vast majority of the custom roms and I'm sure you'll find something you like. In your case, I'd suggest a hybrid of WM6.1 with the Sense 2.5 interface. If you can get your head around the lack of smooth scrolling in certain apps and what-not, you'll find a nice balance of speed and a very pretty sense 2.5 interface. (I personally couldn't get my head around it haha!)
I'd very much like to use a custom rom as I quite like Sense 2.5, but there was always a problem with the text message app. Be it the very slow "HTC Messaging" or the problem with the unread count after disabling it. I haven't tried a custom rom in a few months now so I'm not sure if this has been resolved. If so, can someone please let me know as I can't keep hard resetting my phone to test.
Anywayz good luck, and I hope this helped a bit. I don't come on this site too often but I will bookmark this page and try and remember to check it so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks fade to black for your well laid out response.
I am also waiting to upgrade to the Desire next month but I am not sure I want to get rid of my Touch pro 2. I am so used to the hardware keyboard plus even though I would have had the phone for 1 year by 30 July, it looks brand new. Carrying 2 smartphones about is not an option for me. I have also just had the screen replaced under warranty after it developed newton rings. HTC returned the phone with the latest WM6.5 i.e. with Sense 2.5 and it seems very smooth. No crashes or nothing since I have had it back about a week now.
You're very lucky then as I still have a year left on my contract :-( Lol..
Yeah losing the hardware keyboard is a bit worrying, but i've not had the HTC Wizard, then the Kaiser, and then the Touch Pro 2. So to be honest I'm quite looking forward to a "thin" device for once. Hopefully will be able to get used to the onscreen keyboard.
You could always try waiting a few more months until HTC release an android device with a keyboard? Tbh it's quite surprising how they haven't already.
@Fade2Black101 Thanks for the suggestions! I have begun looking at things and immediately went for disabling the push internet because my memory is a bit tight. Well, instead of installing the CAB file I went in to manually edit the registry and found that it was not enabled in my ROM. :-(
I'm going to try some of the other stuf you suggested, but have not had time as of yet.
I probably shouldn't be, but I am shocked that Verizon released an update that brings the phone to it's knees in terms of performance.
was there a noticable difference in ram usage after editing the push setting? I remember when I tried doing it manually and it didnt have the same effect as installing the cab. So unless you noticed a big change, i'd suggest using the cab.
I don't have Verizon, but, if the rom's out there for Verizon are like the GSM ones, you can probably download the "stock" Verizon Rom, in case you need warranty service. Just flash back to the stock version before returning it.
Of course, if you phone is unbootable, then, you're pretty much screwed

I checked the registry and the settings weren't even there except for one and it was set to disabled. Also when I check the task manager under processes, opera isn't there. So I'm pretty sure that push internet is not running on my phone.
Ok, i cant flash my Orange branded Touch Pro 2. SOOOOOO....
I have searched for the absolutly best way to get the ultimate performance from my device. Whether its the Orange ROM (WM6.5) or some wee glitch with my phone, ive had issues. I find Sense slow and buggy and have been plagued with freezes and having to rest several times every day. Battery performance has been poor and in general a fantastic machine just wasnt cutting the mustard (even went back to my Kaiser for a while).
The problems seem to be common enough tbh.
Anyway with just a few differences my machine has become the chalk against the previous cheese. A hard rest and forgetting about Sense was the start. Ive replaced it with SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5. Combined with obvious backlight time adjustments, and a few 'Advanced Config' tweaks, my Touch Pro 2 has just become a different machine!
Much more smooth and resets just arent necessary.
Ive sacraficed Opera for the latest Opera Mini. More than adequate for my purposes and the interface is actually handier to use for people whos internet access is concentrated on just a few sites/ forums.
Im not on here advertising SPB by the way, just what ive found myself!
Unless you are a massive super user, i dont find the need for OCT or the like. I use MSM most of the day, regular Opera Mini, heavy SMS and occasional Word Mobile and find hte above arrangement brilliant.
Has anyone else any suggestions in the same vein that can help even more?? I am, and im sure most users are, open to minor tweaks. Flashing is a no go.
Q
I prefer CHT with OCT. My device absolutely flies. When it begins to lag a bit after using more than 5 apps, I just CleanRAM custom. Works like a charm. I have found that the device will work at maximum performance when installing everything to the Storage Card. Having all the RAM available for the OS keeps it faster for me. It seems that there is a performance difference when you have 70Gb as opposed to 50Gb. CleanRAM really is the greatest thing for this device.
I tried SPB Shell a few months ago, but I think CHT is much better. Theres way more customization and I find it easier to navigate. You just put your favorite apps in 3 pages. The Shell had things needlessly in different locations and into sub categories. It just didn't suit me.

I was trying to use a modded HTC Home plugin with HTC Home Customizer but ran up against too many problems, so I've returned to Sense for now. I'm hoping to flash a new ROM sometime soon, once I've reinstalled XP and 7 on my PC (I've only got Vista left as running normally, and dislike it too much to rely on it). I've also installed SPB shell on my wife's Acer e200, so was considering it, but I want to finish running some tests with the graphics drivers available here, with sense vs. sense turned off and some minor media playback issues first.
oh, i should have said. flashing is pretty much ur only way to improve what you want.
soooo.... if flash is a no go... new device maybe?
I use the Rhodium tilt 2 GSM phone and am trying to make my phone better:
#1 I want it to be VERY FAST.
The reason why I want it fast is because I hate the Sense lag and the delay of opening screens. I also am planning to run the Android OS on it soon, so I want it to be able to transition quickly from one to the other.
I have been reading on the Overclocking threads. ( What is the safest overclocking speed by the way?)
#2 I want it to have VERY LONG BATTERY LIFE.
Since I most likely will not be using this as a phone from now on, I want to use it as a mp3 player and for websurfing. I would like to have the ability to view e-mails and use my bluetooth headset.
I am ,however, trying to see if I can use tracfone on it in the future.
Right now in it I have installed Energy Rom. Is there anything faster for GSM Rhodium. I was looking at MaxSense it I liked the Android theme to it but its for CDMA, and I also looked at Titanium but I glanced at it quickly so I didn't really look for the files yet (I don't even know if it's for GSM). I also looked at the Rom lists, I wish they had put the focal point of their roms like NRG did with his. Please place your comments to which you think it would be best for me to use. Thank you all for your help!
If you want speed, go with Titanium. Sure it's ugly-as-sin, but it's fast.
FYI, WinMo performance/speed has no relation to Android. HaRET kicks WinMo out of memory and starts its own boot process... Hence why you can't just simply "return" to WinMo from Android, you have to reboot the phone (soft reset) and have WinMo go thru its boot process again to get going.
I'm using titanium and it's still not ZOMGWTF fast, but it's a lot better than sense
I find it significantly more useful to use though, sense is just a fat slug. I set my windows key to have a drop down menu rather than the start menu screen. Does not interrupt whatever i'm doing as it's just a partial screen overlay, and it's catagorised and sorted better than the full screen window.
titanium is then only used for clock, calendar, text and occasionally contacts. All of which are no faster or easier to use in sense. Do the transition
