Just recently (about 3hours ago) myj touch screen has started going weird.
So like on webpages it will randomly pinch zoom ands when type random... ok wtf jyust now just hovering over the o key made it spam... simply i did a nandtoi.d restore could it be caused by that?

Ok ccool it just pressed the submit button wtf is going on... its randomly pressinjg stuff on my oscreen!
This specialI changed tOp swype and at least I can kinda type properly nope nvm it still randomly presS places on my screen..
This is ****ing special it stops if i unplug from my charger???

Are you using the stock charger or another one? I had the same problem with my Pulse when I was using a non-brand charger.
Sent from my Defy using Tapatalk

Wow seriously it was the charger? (No it was not a stock charger ) so that ebay seller isn't getting posative feedback... now all i can wonder is how a charger can cause such symptoms...
Oh and by the way.thanks for the info man id thank you if i could
Upon limited googling i found that its something to do with voltage potential which was actually one off my guesses when i found out it was the charger.
Sent using motorola defy

Have had my screen glitch-out, but just once, while on charger. Never happened again..?

Ayup, probably got something to do with the voltage. I guess there really is a good enough reason to pay extra for official accesories... Learnt the hard way.

same problem using original charger motorola in my car
-> with cheap inverter without "pure sine wave"
the screen had gone mad, the function is activated automatically
I immediately disconnected

hi there!
I have the same issue but i use the official charger and no accessories...
It seems to happen randomly and i have to hammer the home button and try and turn it off before it sends random txt messages to my friends... this is rather frustrating!! makes me look like an idiot when i send messages like: m/0or and Mkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk and mkmkmkmkmkmkmkm etc....
I have this happen at least every two days, it happened this morning, and last happened on sunday, even when on my homescreen i can see it doing random presses as i have the water and leaf background and you can see the water ripple where the random presses are??
Anyone got a fix for this? or is it just a shoddy phone?

I had the same problem when I used an Apple usb charger and the phone went mad and turned from 5% - 60% in 20 secs. I disconnected and had to wait to reboot.
Just to verify that things are fine with your charger, plug the usb cable to a pc or a laptop and check if it acts the same. If it does then wish you luck, if it does not then immediately change the charger converter that u use.

hello,
thanx for your reply
however as i already stated i use the stock charger and cable.... same behaviour either way... as sometimes i charge by USB but most of the time by the motorola charger and cable: this is not my issue
any other ideas?

Use your precious warranty. It's NOT supposed to behave like that. I use mine plugged in a lot of the time and has never experienced anything like that.

Nexus thinks its being charged

I've had my nexus since November and its been working fine. I upgraded to 4.0.2 about 2 weeks ago when it was pushed to my phone.
Last night, my phone ran down the battery, even while in airplane mode. I've found that it keeps waking itself and it thinks its being charged. The battery icon has the charge icon on now, even though its not plugged in.
Anyone else had this problem? I've tried power off and re-seating the battery, but still the same problem.
Unlock, root, then flash custom rom, can almost guarantee it will fix your problem

Had the same problem couple days ago. Plugging and then unplugging from the charger fixed the icon.
Mabey the new update added the "self charging" feature.. It's defiantly the future but I think it's still in beta testing... Luckily you were one of the few that got the feature! Hehe...
I just like the title to this thread makes it seam like your phone is alive and confused with what's going on lol poor guy .

i had this problem this morning. Screen kept coming on and showing the chargin icon over the battery and on the lock screen and kept waking the device!
I plugged the charger in and out a few times and that seemed to stop it for a few hours. Since then i have flashed the latest build of AOKP and havent had the issue yet... I'll wait and see if it returns now i've said that!
That does sound similar. I plugged in my charger at work and it worked OK for a while, but the problem has returned
You are having this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21840063#post21840063
.. and you are not alone.
It's a hardware problem, and you should RMA your phone or change the USB charging board.
I had the same problem, and temporarilly fixed it several times with unplugging rapidly, half-way insterted plug, toothpick to pick on the USB pinns.. It sometimes worked, but after a while it was permanently broken. I fixed it by changing the USB charging board.. this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150713366355
I had this same issue on the Galaxy S 2. Simple replacement there. Should be same here

I'm having a similar problem with my Galaxy Nexus. The problem comes and goes. Sometimes the problem persists for a few days and then goes away for some time.
My experience:
The phone sometimes thinks it's charging when it's not.
Sometimes it thinks I'm janking the charger out and plugging it in non-stop. (the screen lights up a second after I turn it off. And this can go on for hours).
Either way, I can't charge it.
Things I've noticed:
When plugging it in to a computer it sometimes recognices it as a USB device and the phone also recognices that it had been plugged in, but it wont charge.
Plugging the charger in and out rapidly many times sometimes cause it to start charging for real.
The built-in charging-icon and the 3rd party icon from "Battery indicator" (by Darshan Computing, LCC) don't alway show that it's charging at the same time (could be a problem in the 3rd party app, or a problem in the system).
Rebooting the phone may sometimes cause the battery percentage to show a different value than before reboot.
I've been having this problem since I got the phone. Neither updates nor factory resets has made a difference.
I haven't tried rooting it and installing a custom ROM, and I wont, since I will get a repair/replacement on the warranty.
Either send it in for repair or get a small knife, put it in the charger port under the pin and very gently push down so it moves the pin by a fraction of a mm. This worked for me and was caused by a cheap charging dock from eBay, I fixed and replicated the problem so I know this to be true

[Q] charging?

i have noticed twice in the last week that when i take my phone off charge in the morning it has been dead... like it was never charging. is this a faulty device or is it common for everyone
doesn't sound right. check whats eating up the battery at night, might be a dodgy app but sounds like a dodgy battery
Sometimes if it's using a lot of power it will be drawing more than the charger gives and still use up the battery. Make sure there aren't any programs running or large amounts of data being transferred on data networks.
It's really bad to run the battery all the way down. If you can't figure out what it is, it may be worth sending it in for service/replacement.
That happens to me with bricked kernel, are u using it?

Id suspect faulty usb/ charger if they move ever so slightly on worn bad cords itl drop charge even tho it was chsrging when u set it down for the night
I know.i have about 5 extra chargers two of them do this everytime
Suspect a charger before u suspect a 600$ phone

i will take it back tomorrow and try for my 5th faultless phone :S sigh*
Has anyone else had an issue like the following
1. phone is off (0%)
2. Plugin charger
3. Red light activates (charging while off)
4. Random amount of time passes eg. 30 mins phone boots up by itself
???
Can anyone explain?
is the phone faulty or charger maybe the cause?

Your not really supposed to run the battery down to zero. It could be designed to boot automatically if the battery had been below a certain amount and it turned off due to that... Not that i have anything to back that theory up...

Galaxy Nexus battery/charging problem?

My phone has been going insane for the last two days. It will think that it is charging when it isn't plugged in. Sometimes it will cycle between not charging and charging at a rapid rate, causing the screen to turn on and stay on (the screen will normally turn on when plugged in). I've tried various resets, battery pulls, etc. This is not a rooted device. If I pull the battery and then reboot the phone, the battery will be 10-15% lower than when I pulled the battery only a minute earlier. Anyone experience this?
This has been happening to a lot of people. It is indeed a hardware problem. There is a way to fix it, what u need to do it reposition the USB female receiving jack ever so slightly.
1) turn the phone off and take the battery out
2) take a toothpick, knife , pin or whatever will fit into the micro USB slot of the galaxy nexus.
3) VERY VERY slowly make it so that the little shelf like connector is in the middle.
4) connect ur phone and it will work like new. This works for a lot of people. I did this a few hours ago and my phone now charges perfect
RECOMENDATION : when it starts to charge you should restore a stock image and lock the boot loader so that you can get a new phone replaced . This is a way to fix it but this hardware issue shouldve never happened in the first place and it should warrant a return. Let me know what happens!

I don't think "doing this a few hours ago" is really a long enough time to say it works perfectly. The same thing happened to my phone and I have seen several people claim this solution fixes the problem. I tried it and it fixed it for about two days but then it came back, and it won't go away now regardless of what I do with the charging port. I am starting to believe there is no solution but to buy a new phone
New glitch spotted when phone is of and in the charger it wil chrage for like 2 seconds and then the animation saays the phone is full!but 2seconda later its charging again so on and so on... sort of chargingloop..

i had the same exact issue try wiping dalvik ,battery stats and cache under recovery, fixed all issued...i think this was caused after using the fast ac charge on francos kernal.
i found a solution.
I had the same problem. at the the begining it didn´t charge. i made hard reset and nothing. i ordered a new battery and nothing. Then i see something different in tee microusb port when i compared it with an xperia x10 port. I realise that the tiny plate inside the port was bended. then with a needle i straighten it, and the charge bolt icon returns to life. But after that some times it comes up without charging conection. Then i found some blog post that said that the "Dock Connector Charging Port Flex Cable Ribbon For Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250" was the problem. I found a guide to disassemble an change that micro usb port, it is really easy, i made in 30 minutes, even been the first time. I bought the replacement part in ebay (ebay.com/itm/-/130656140500?item=130656140500&viewitem=&ViewItem) but after that i found many web stores with it an cheaper prices.

Sorry, I have been having the same issues with my gnex, after it hits full charge the charging indicator will flash on and off on my screen until I reach 90% on my battery then it will quit the rest of the day.. always does it after hitting full charge so please read what I've done and still have the same problem...... I have used multiple batteries, same problem, I've used different chargers, same problem, I even bought that part off ebay and replaced the charge port inside of the phone, same problem.. and I even tried all of this before receiving the jelly bean update, and even after the update I still have the same charging error issue... does anyone know of any other solutions? I've done them all I think.
I had a very similar issue (the phone would charge ONLY if turned off, computer would not recognize the USB device 90% of the time).
Turns off that fuzz and dandruff had accumulated at the bottom of the USB port (you couldn't see it) so i took a needle and carefully pried it out, it was a nice sized ball of stuff that was preventing the USB port from making clean contact with the cable.
Hope that helps

I am stuck in the same boat as you. I have tried almost everything but it seems that this issue keeps persisting. I don't have warranty so it isn't like I can give it in for replacement. I don't know what else is there to do
I'm going insane reading these.
Google is your best friend in the whole world. Your best friend. If you're out of warranty, the best you can do is use a pogo dock, or replace, like take apart your GalNex and replace the port with a part bought from eBay.
Or, if you look at some of the other 99 threads about this, some people fixed theirs by adjusting the port with a screwdriver or something like that. Can't say I recommend that though.

I don't think there is a problem with USB port. I can charge my phone via the USB connection from my laptop, but the same is not possible when I use he same charger with wall unit charging. Also If I reboot my phone then I can even charge it via the wall unit.
It seems something to do with some app or battery temp.....

[Q] Touch goes crazy when connected to power

Hi there,
well, it depends a little bit which charger I use but one some I have the bad experience that when I have the phone connected to power the display just goes crazy. Means that as long as the display is turned on it pushed/touches automatically some areas in the display without stopping. So when I want to do something I have to disconnect the mobile first and than I can work with it.
As someone similar experience or knows how to solve it?
Thanks
Stephan
btw. it happens also with different mods
LOL same sh!t happened to me today too.
I moved in another USB slot from PC and seems that issue is gone. But until today I didn't had this issue. Maybe is the polarization +/- from the charger.
Happens to me also with an universal charger. Touchscreen is almost unusable while charging and laying on the table. But seems to work fine if I hold it with my hands (grounding the aluminium body). This happened also with my Motorola Defy with the same charger. But it didn't have any metal components on the outside so it didn't work correctly in the hand either.

Hehe, first time I saw this was so scary, ghost in the phone.
That should be the charger. I have two non original charges one of then with 1A and the other with less. First of then affects the screen sometime and the other never gave me that issue.
Hope this helps.
Yes. It's because of the voltage fluctuations that the screen starts to react weirdly. The same happens when you use a non-standard AC supply too. Don't keep using that charger and/or USB port for long though.. it will cause damage to your phone screen and more so to the battery.
Yes, specially with blackberry chargers

[Q] Ghost Is Using My Gnex!!! Help!

Okay, gonna try and explain this as best I can, bear with me.
2.5 years ago or something I got a Gnex from Verizon, brand new. The phone would act like a ghost was using it, like someone was interacting with the touchscreen. It'd randomly call contacts, send texts (random letters/numbers), all kinds of weird stuff. Video of it on day 1 HERE doing this. Took it into Verizon, got a new replacement. Never had the problem again. 2 or so years go by, not a single problem, unlocked, flash, all that, never had the problem again.
About a month ago, I upgraded to a Moto X and passed this phone on to a family member. At the time was running the latest stable Cyanogenmod ROM, the last for JB. 10.2 maybe? Anyway, that's what ROM was on it, again, no problems. Factory reset the phone to wipe my stuff, left it rooted and unlocked. I gave them the phone, battery, extended battery, and a few cases as well, no charger cause I know they'd twist up and destroy the factory cable. Setting the phone up for them battery starts going low, used their charger. Cable had shorts and crap, scavenged around looking for good charger. Get phone set up for them, and I'm done, handed off.
A day later, they're complaining that the phone is going crazy, like a ghost is using it, and it's randomly calling people, sending texts, opening menus, not charging, etc. Sounds like EXACT same issue I had with my very first Gnex that I exchanged. Figured that was really strange, maybe it was the software. Factory reset to latest factory image 4.2.2, lock BL back up, completely bone stock. Re-setup phone and all that jazz. Phone's acting fine. Decided this time that'd I'd let them have the original stock charger, thinking maybe that'd help with the charging issues too. All seems well....
However, during the reset and all, and after re-setting up the phone, battery is low.... plug it in with a known good charger of mine, but not stock original, and all the sudden the phone's freaking out again. Turn screen off, turns itself back on. Dialing people, opening apps on its own, etc. Figure maybe this Gnex just won't take any charger except it's original. Pull battery, reboot, phone's fine, fine for 10+ minutes. Plug in OEM charger this time, wait a few seconds, unplug, phone goes crazy.
Also interesting, they brought another charger of theirs with a little red LED on, plug it into wall, red LED comes on. Interestingly, if the charger is unplugged from wall with red LED off and I plug it into the phone.... the red LED on the wall charger turns on... that's not right. So.... here's where I'm at now. If I pull battery, reboot, and never attach a charger, the phone acts perfectly fine. The instant I plug in ANY charger, it'll start going wacko and continue to until I pull battery and reboot. At first I thought this was a charger issue, but now... I'm thinking it's battery related. This little experiment of getting the phone to go crazy after plugging in a charger applies to both the OEM and extended battery, regardless of what charger I use.
When I owned the phone, I almost exclusively used the OEM charger, occasionally another charger I had that I know works fine. Gave Gnex to family member WITHOUT a charger, so they were forced to use who know what condition phone charger. I'm wondering if maybe some rogue jacked up phone charger with shorts in it and crap somehow killed the extended battery. Then, they switched to the OEM battery, and again, unknowingly killed that battery too with the same crap charger. So maybe buying a new battery would fix the issue and only using the OEM charger from now on or the other one that was mine that I know works? Or maybe the phone is just broken now? It just doesn't seem right that plugging a phone into the micro-USB should turn ON the red LED on the charger when it's not plugged into the wall, like the power is coming out of phone and going into the LED...
I just refuse to believe that on the exact same day and within hours of me upgrading to a Moto X and passing on my Gnex that had worked perfectly for 2 years in my possession somehow just happens to "break" or "go bad" on its own. Thought it was software glitch/bug in CM, no. Thought it was incompatible charger, no. Maybe the batteries are bad? Maybe the phone's circuitry got jacked up too? Just seems weird that, as far as I can tell, pulling the battery and rebooting fixes it for good until the battery dies. Within 30 seconds of connecting a charger, the phone goes bonkers.
Any ideas? Feel bad, family member probably thinks I dumped a bad phone on them!
Thanks!
What kind of sorcery was that? I honestly don't know what to say about this other than bad timing? I highly doubt a ghost is possessing the phone.
I know a ghost isn't possessing the phone, I just, that's how I best described it when it was going wacko by itself. Plus, interesting topic title, maybe get a few more people to read it and maybe offer some advice or info or something
However, I do have a ghost in my house, or a spirit or something. I've seen him, sitting on my couch before. He died in a fire, smoke inhalation, no smoke alarms in the house. House was sold, completely rebuilt, and I am first to live in it since then. Crazy story for a different forum lol
From what I can see, it's just that the screen isn't working properly because of leaked currents from the battery or the charger... Just get the whole screen replaced (it's hard to only replace the glass layer) and should be fine.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ CM11
Leaking currents, had it happen to me before from a bad charger. I doubt it's the battery, try an outlet in a different house, they may have bad power.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
So this "leaking currents" problem, it's a problem with the battery? A problem with the phone, in particular, the screen? It definitely sounds like a rogue bad charger could have done this based on the feedback so far. The "damage" or whatever happened at their house. Just the other night, they brought the chargers and phone and stuff to my house, a different house, problem persisted. So I'm not thinking it's a dirty power issue or anything.
...and so you should have the screen replaced. I've had Motorola and HTC phones with issues responding to touches when charging, and replacing the screen largely eased the problem (although I still ended up getting a new charger because I don't want it to also damage the newly replaced screen).

Op may also want to consider relocating... ghost home and ghost phone, that's too much!

Could be the battery, could be the USB cables or chargers, could be the USB port on the device, could be the screen. The fact that it only happens when plugged in but with more than one charger and battery makes me suspect the USB port on the device. From my understanding you can buy a replacement. A temporary fix would be to use a charger that charges the battery outside of the phone.

No ghost... i think
I think its because the charger you use....
I had the same problem, but not with gnx... before gnx I used galaxy i5801...
when I put my mobile in charge, my mobile did some crazy things, like operating itself,...I figured out that the charger I used is not the one I shouldn't use.
every mobile has a charging limits, like voltage restriction..
little difference in voltage could make big difference.
so I changed the charger. problem solved for me.
other than charger.. there are some things can do this, I don't know about all.
I doubt it may caused by your digitizer...maybe is has too much sensitivity, caused by water, dust, pressure, etc....
digitizer and display are not the same.
I faced this one too ( galaxy i5801) before charging problem, but not with gnx.
A digitizer is the part of a touch screen that senses your touch and "digitizes" your gestures into impulses that the phone can understand as commands.
if it continues my last suggestion.... call the priest
Well, I borrowed an OEM standard and extended battery from a friend, neither fixed the problem. My friend did say that similar to my first Gnex, when he first got his, it did the same exact thing, but after a while it stopped and it hasn't done it ever since. I also narrowed it down, or, widened the issue, in that it's not just AC chargers, the exact same stuff happens with a brand new 12V car charger.
Dirty power on the fifth rail of a USB wire. Its either the charger not supplying enough power or a damaged cable.

My vote is on the screen, due to the digitiser. Replacing the touchscreen could help solve the problem. I was in your family's position when I got a used Motorola Cliq from a friend and the battery was all good, no leaks. Ghosts just started touching it everywhere like a crazed groupie when it went into my possession. No explanation as to why it happened and I didn't look into it that much but replacing the screen is the most likely solution.
