Hi,
What's the best way to return to the truly factory conditions - I mean including the SD card?
(I'm not rooted - yet ).
* A factory reset from the settings menu does not clean up the SD Card - should I format it as well?
* I've noticed the applications get automatically reinstalled once the gmail account is re-created on the DZ
* how about the HTCsense.com account - shoudl it be deleted as well from the web site?
Thanks in advance!

Hi
Today I received a new HTC Desire after my first one went back to T-Mobile.
Stuck in my old SD card and it recognised that there was a backup file on it and proceeded to load it.
However, my new Desire didn't show any signs of being restored from a back up i.e. bookmarks weren't present, messages etc.
I then added a couple bookmarks and factory reset my phone. Again, got the option to restore from backup but same issue occured i.e. no bookmarks that I had added and the standard bookmarks were present despite the fact that I had deleted them!
Phone is set to automatically backup so this is not the issue (plus there was a backup file present on the SD card).
Anyone else found this and know a solution?!
Thanks

I had to do a Factory Reset today (made a mess of everything! ) and discovered the same problem. Obviously the stock backup solution does not restore very many of our settings. That would explain why there are Apps in the Market for backing up....
Hey,ho. You live and you learn!
Sorry to be a noob but I cant think of a valid way to backup all my contacts on my phone and also any other data stored on the phone memory such as email account.
I have a problem whereby when my phone is set to vibrate, it doesn't when receiving a text message and I have tried all settings to make it, but to no avail, I have been advised to reset to factory settings to restore this back to normal.
Any ideas people?
Your contacts should automatically sync to the Google servers if I'm not mistaken?
How do you mean? auto sync? are you reffering to the Sync mode on PC, or just by using the phone and using the internet google would take a copy?
Desire does auto backups for specific things, not for contacts though (if you are not syncing)
To backup your contacts manually go to People - > Menu ->Import/Export -> Export to SD card
Hi sorry to revive an old thread, but how do you then reinstall the contacts after a factory reset?
Edit: Ignore that, People - menu - import export - import from sd card!
I am going to do a hard reset on my phone to try and get my headset buttons working again, but I want to know in advance what pains I will have to go through to get all my settings, apps, and data back afterward.
I have the free version of MyBackup, with which I have saved backup files to my SD card. After the reset do I just download this one app to reinstate my backed up data, or are there hoops to jump through first?
What other information is needed, passwords, server addresses, etc, that might need to added manually so I can even get the phone ready to download?
Your phone should be set to automatically back up certain data and settings to your microSD card, such as your bookmarks and Wi-Fi passwords.
Your phone backs up the following types of data and settings whenever there are new additions or changes:
* Text and multimedia messages
* Settings in the Messages application
* Web bookmarks
* Keyboard dictionary
* Settings in your phone that fall under these categories:
o Wireless & networks
o Sound & display
o Location
o Applications
o Date & time
o Language & keyboard - only the Locale setting
After you do a factory reset or upgrade the phone software, your phone will restart and let you restore the saved data and settings in your storage card back to your phone.
Turning automatic backup on or off
1. From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings.
2. Scroll down the screen, and then tap Privacy > Back up my data & settings.
3. Select or clear the Back up my data & settings check box to turn automatic backup on or off.
You can also restore apps from the Marketplace by logging into your linked Google Account and installing each one separately.
MyBackup Pro is only useful if you are rooted to backup all your apk's and data settings.
How do I back-up my stuff on HTC Wildfire S, cause my screen has a problem (touch sensitivity) and I called HTC, they told me to do a Factory Reset and to back-up my phone.

Restart the phone at first time before reset it!
Then if it still does not work properly you can backup your settings and installed and downloaded apps from the market -> Menu/Privacy/
Your your contacts are probably automatically backed up in your google account, if not move the contacts from SIM/Phone to google and they will be backed up.
If you want to backup the sdcard:
1. you can chose not to erase the card
2. you can backup up music/video/pics/files with the HTC sync software - when connected to USB you will receive notification in the notification bar that the phone is charging, click on it and chose Sync with USB
I hope that helped!
I have rooted the phone but have not upgraded the (Stock?) ROM for many months.
I was trying to get WiFi Tethering to work again and flashed a file that was supposed to fix it. It didn't.
(Edit: That file was "MD4HotspotMod-Odexed.zip"...)
Do I have to re-flash the last ROM I downloaded? I think it is still on either the internal storage or the external SD card.
"Power+Home+Volume UP" will flash a ROM, but I don't know where the ROM needs to be. I think I had to rename it "update.zip" and put it in the root of the internal memory last time...
"Power+Home+Volume DOWN" puts me into Team Win Recovery Project v2.5.0.0, but I don't know what to do in there.
(It is stuck at the glowing SAMSUNG logo when I attempt to boot normally...)
Thanks.
P.S. In TWRP, the last backup I did was apparently about a year ago... can I use that then once the phone works again, boot it up and restore via Titanium Backup?
Files I see on SD card
* cm-10.1-20130417-NIGHTLY-d2spr.zip
* CWM-Touch-6030naddict.zip
* eec955eb4a5b.update_SPH-L710_LI3_to_L. (can't read the rest... too long of a filename?)
* gapps-jb-20130301-signed.izp
* Know_APP_removeer.zip
* LJ7_PhantomHacker_blazed_v2.1.zip
* MB1_update_FULL_DeOdex.zip
* MD4_Update_FULL_DeOdex.zip
* SPHL710_MK3_rooted_odexed.zip
* TWRP-recovery-2.5.0.0_naddict.zip
* wifi_fix_mk3.zip
Files in main memory (root)
* 4de78f2682b5.update_SPH-L710_LEN_to_L
* CWM-Touch-6030naddict.zip
* Odin307.zip
* recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-d2spr.img
* recovery.tar.md5
* TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5.zip
* update.zip (?!)
Flash md4_full_DeOdex.zip, but dont wipe anything. With luck you will see everything again.
You flashed hotspot hacked from an odexed rom. You need the DeOdexed version of the hack.
Sent from my Note's unrootable chinese clone.
Thanks.
The phone is working again, but now my WiFi won't work.
I think I'd like to just wipe the phone and start from scratch, but I've never done that before.
Should I start a new thread or could you or someone point me in the right direction?
Your best bet is installing a custom and updated ROM, like MOAR for example. That's the one that I use.
Backup everything in internal to pc or external sd, also your apps, contacts, text, etc. As an advise you can delete that lot of old files. You must have like 2gb of old and outdated roms.
Check for an updated recovery like Philz or latest TWRP.
If you choose TWRP, go to wipe/advance and wipe System, Data, Internal Storage.
Be sure you have in your external sd the mk3 modem and the rom you choose. Flash the modem and then the rom. Setup everything and copy back to internal your files.
ROMS and Current Recoveries are in Android Development. Check the ones with MK3.
Most of them have the direct link to mk3 modem. If not CNexus have a link in General.
And if I helped you, please use the thanks button

I backup everything by just copying and pasting to the external SD card using ES File Explorer.
1) What program do I use to backup my apps, contacts, text messages, etc.?
a) Apps: Titanium Backup
b) Text Messages: SMS Backup & Restore
c) Contacts: I have my Google account synced with my phone, so I think this is automatically backed up?
2) What program will make an exact image of my internal memory so it can be restored in completeness?
3) Is there an easy fix for my WiFi in the meantime?
I use for texts my backup root. (Mms and texts)
To the backup image you can nand with TWRP. When you are in recovery there's a backup button(choose external sd).
I don't know about any fix, but reinstall. Sorry about that.
