[Q] Music Player/SD Card issues - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been having a problem with my brand-new tmo G2. I used to have a G1, which was a great old workhorse for two years. In September, my pos iPod stopped working, so I bought a 16GB SD card for my G1, mainly for use with my extensive (10GB or so) music collection that the 1GB card that came with it couldn't handle. Fast forward to xmas. I got a nice, new G2, and one of the first things I did was stick my microSD card from the G1 in so I could listen to my music. However, all that shows up on the Music app is part of the music on my card. Obviously the phone sees the music on the card, all the songs in the Music player are in the same folder in the microSD card as the rest of my music. I have no idea how to fix this, can someone please help me? I'm also having issues getting my old photos/videos from the same SD card to show up in the Gallery...

I also have the same. Didn't seem to have a problem on my nexus one 2.2.

I'm guessing some of your music is DRM protected. Lots of my old iTunes downloads are DRM while the new ones are not. That might be why you can't play them. It's a pain but you can convert them by burning to cd in iTunes then burning the cd back to mp3.
edit: have you tried formatting the card and copying the stuff back on? I haven't had any problems with my G2 when swapping sd cards, so maybe try formatting or a different card just to test it.

I'll try that but my phones perm rooted and flashed with sense maybe its a problem with the Rom rather than the songs?

Problems playing media on sd card >:|

So I love everything about this phone so far except for all the problems I'm having trying to play music off my sd card. I keep getting errors from every media player that so & so file cannot be played. I've tried reformatting my card & that seemed to help at first but now it's happening again. I've deleted every .nomedia file I can find. Songs that I literally JUST played will for some reason not play the second time I try to play them. I can finish a song & immediately try to play it again & get an error. They're just regular mp3s, too. It's maddening. I doubt it's my card, it worked perfectly in my HD2 and in my Sensation. I'm kind of new to Samsung phones so is there some special way I need to format it? I formatted it in the phone, it should work. Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried out player pro and all the songs from my 32gb I used in my sensation play fine. Did you try that app?

I have not, I'll try it.
I still wanna know why this is happening though.
Edit: Damn dude, good call on PlayerPro. Works awesomely & has folder browsing just like I like :>

[Q] Music Playlist Deletion - Is There a Solution???

I owned a Galaxy S on AT&T for two years, and now have the E4Gt on Sprint. Through both devices, I've used a 16GB external SD card for holding music. From android v2.1-4.0, I've had issues on EVERY music player I've tried (See: Stock, Google Music, Ubermusic, Winamp, Apollo, and more) with playlists randomly clearing out. I listen to music all day at work, and my second job is playing music at clubs as a DJ. This bug is really killing me. I'll plan out a setlist, and get home to see it emptied out.
From searching XDA, it seems to be a common issue. Playlists are stored in a database and not on a physical file and are somehow easily cleared out. I'm basicly looking for a solution here. Any search I've done comes up with no answers, or workarounds such as using back-up apps or cloud storage.
Does anybody know of a solution to playlists being deleted/emptied??
I think your SD card might be bad
My playlist have never been cleared out

How could it be bad? I've attempted storing music on the external. I've tried swapping it after a flash so that music is on the internal instead. The issue comes up after a reboot typically after any files are changed or moved on the phone. I'm guessing it may have to do with the media scan.

I FOUND A SOLUTION
i have the exact same problem with my samsung galaxy 3s, with the software 4.1.2. the playlists content disapears all the time.
what helped on my phone was to make a backup on your pc, from the phones and SD-cards memory, then format your phone (both phone card) PROBLEM FIXED. I know it takes some time to restore everything, i recommend that you install "backup and restore" and "playlist backup" on your phone and make a backup on your apps and playlist. good luck
PS. install only the apps that you need (it could be an app that did made the bug)
PPS. if you can use another music player than the default one, that could also prevent the bug, i am using "Now Playing"

Music skipping

So about 2 days ago I got a new 64GB SDXC and ever since then my music has been skipping horribly to the point where it skips to a random song in my queue and sometimes even plating the wrong song
my music is FLAC and MP3

Which micro sd card do you have? You shouldn't have any problems running FLAC music with a UHS-1/Class 10 card or at least a Class 6 card minimum. Worst case scenario is that your card is a fake because they tend to degrade in performance or perform slow to begin with (let's hope that isn't the case).
Perhaps it could also be your music player app, try installing it again? I recommend switching between PowerAmp, Winamp and Player Pro to see if there is any change. Last solution would be to format your micro sd card and transfer all the music back on to it again (if possible, transfer 5-10 songs at a time) and hopefully that will resolve your problem.
this is my MicroSD http://goo.gl/zgRQ6 amazon says it's a class 10 i have tred formatting it many times i have tried player pro, apollo, sony walkman, Zplayer, and ubermusic all with no luck
also if it matters i am running CM10
Try testing the speed of your sd card, you can install SD Card Tester and see if you're getting close to the advertised read/write speed. Also check if the results you get are consistent, perhaps trying the test 5-10 times should help you determine if it is.
Also, what happens if you put several songs on your internal memory and you play them, does it also skip? If not, it is most likely your micro sd. From what I've read in the reviews on the link you've sent me, there are some people who've said their card had become defective over time.
Edit: If you also have another micro sd card available, see if listening to music from it gives you the same issue. In that case, reflashing your rom may help.
2nd Edit: What file system did you format the micro sd in? Make sure you have formatted it in FAT32, apparently some roms have trouble reading exFAT and NTFS.
Thanks for your help but my problem has been fixed my card apparently my card reader is brokem i had been taking the MicroSD card out and putting it in a card reader to speed up transfer but once i transferred music straight from the phone everything worked perfectly also people have reported that that card reader sometimes copies files with broken parts which is exactly what was happening with me
That's a first, would have never thought of that! Good job on finding out the issue and fixing it. :good: Time to get the card reader replaced just in case you would need to use one again, ahaha. Cheers!
Have you tried a different music player?

Kitekat SD Issue - Tunesync does it work ?

Love my m8 but don't like what Google have done 're the sd card situation
I have a 64gb card in my phone and refuse to root to get round it (basically coz I'm scared of ruining my phone as I don't have a clue plus I've a Mac so probably would struggle )
I have music on my iTunes and want to use tune sync to sync the music over
Previously you could chose the folder where the music was saved but the option isn't there due to 4.3
Has anyone used tune sync + it says it's compatible with Kitekat but I am bothered it will save to the phone memory
Love the m8 came from iPhone 5s only spoiler is the sd card which hopefully Google will sort out

yes. when i looked on file manager it showed every song, and it would let me play them individually on either of the 2 music apps but will not let me get them on the apps themselves. i would not let me skip to the next song. i would have to look through all of the songs to find a specific one. it would take far too long.

Strange, may have something to do with the size of the card although I have heard it can accept a 128GB card. Is app on internal storage or SD? If on internal storage, shouldn't be an issue. Also, is music stored in music folder?
Try going to settings/apps/all/music and clear cache and data and then reopen music app to see if it finds your files.
I put all of the songs in the folder called google.music or something like that first and it didn't work, so I made a folder called music and that didnt work. So I tried formatting the sd card and moved the songs again and it didn't work. Just cleared cache and data and it didn't work. Also, when I look at the storage in settings it says there is music on the sd card.
Wow, looks like you've attempted all remedies. Do you have another SD card to try to rule out issues with the 128GB card?
Just buy a real micro sd card instead of the fake one.. the fake one won't work..
P.S. Your question does not relate to HTC M9.

what are you talking about? i did research to make sure that the micro sd card i bought was compatible with my htc one m9. not fake. and it clearly relates to a HTC ONE M9 as that is the phone i am having the problem with. ****ing idiot.

Same issue here, but I'm just moving my music on to the phone itself now and that works just fine. I moved my pictures to the SD card and the gallery app has no problem finding the pictures. It's just the music app that's having difficulty.
Strange that this is occurring. I have 800+ songs on my SD card (64 gigabyte) and the music app finds and plays them without issues
Genuine SanDisk...
Not a remedy for standard player but I can confirm Poweramp works perfectly from music on the card.
Yes, if you don't really need the greatest musics on the go - you can go with PowerAMP.. again if you only need the best from the life, and this is why you have habitually opted for the next HTC, then you won't depart your further amazing without NEUTRON..

also I have the same problem.
I had the songs to work well and suddenly I ran out of songs according to play music.
with another application "ES EXplorer" he can identify the songs and play smoothly.
Still, I prefer the Play Music but this does not identify any music on cellphone

which file system is on your sd card? is it formatted as fat32? it normally should work fine. try formatting it with some professional tools, not windows and try again..also don't format in phone, sometimes it breaks the compatibility...if you already tried on windows but not on phone try it with formatting on phone...otherwise do the step i told you on windows with a formatting tool for sd cards and format to either fat or fat32
Make sure SD is FAT32, try a player that lets you select a music directory such as PlayerPro or PowerAMP. Using a Sandisk 64GB SD as portable storage in CM13, and both these players (in fact many others as well) can see all the files without a problem.
try different music players, or make sure the file formats are supported, or the sd card could be incorrectly formatted?
