Hardware 004

Are the 004 users still stuck with the stock HTC 17 Kernel? Am i correct when i assume the source code hasnt been released for the kernel yet? Still no OC with camera? I miss my rev 002 and 003. Battery life was twice as good with custom OC'd kernels
Is the Camera the only thing different with 004? I swear i would normally just use a different kernel and say to hell with the camera, but i bought some of those $15 magnetic Macro and Wide angle lenses..and have an urge to use them. The Macro one is awesome! I cant wait to actually need a close up of a chipset number or something like that. Nobody will believe it came from my "camera phone!" (lol remember when they were called camera phones )

from everything i have read.. camera seems to be the only difference in the 0004 version.
i got 0003 and its running the stock #17 kernel and the battery life is better than the previous versions.

Bump... I was just about to ask the same thing. My hardware revision 004 needs some overclocked love. I am pleased with the speed the existing OC kernels give, but I am not willing to give up my camera capabilities to keep those kernels on my phone.

Hey rajas, when you say previous versions, are you referring to previous stock builds or custom OC/UV like netarchy? or all of the above? I was getting outstanding battery life OC'd to 12228, much better than i'm getting now with the 17. Maybe i'll still try my old netarchyfavorite for 0001-0003, even though camera will be inop, to see if i can duplicate my previous battery love on this 004..

Is there a way to identify the camera chip?

I have a rooted EVO with Hardware Version 003 and was curious to know if there was a way to identify the camera chip in my phone (as I just found out that some of the 003 versions have the same chip that is in the 004 and therefore would benefit from the 3.30 OTA)

Sure there is, just take your phone apart. Or you could try one of the older ROMs and see if the camera still works.

I was told if you are able to run a custom Kernel and your camera still functions properly you have the old chip. Don't know if this is true being that I got a 0003 Evo days before they rolled out the 0004's, so I would think I have the new chip but all old roms and custom kernels work fine for me. I'd also like to know what the improvements are regarding the new chip cuz my camera is ****...

Yes it is true. I have a 0004 version phone and my kernal only works with Myns rom with the #17 kernal. I have tried every other kernal and its a no go. Only a black screen.

Sounds like a downfall. Wanna trade? haha

I've heard that one camera isn't "better" than the other but rather, HTC had to go to a different parts supplier.
If anyone knows any different, please add.

If HTC swapped chips with out upgrading, they really have their head up their @ss. IMO that's the Evo's only downfall, the camera with my a500 killed the Evo cam I think my i880 did too.

I have 2 EVO's, one with the new chip and one ithe the old chip and 3.29 software. Bought them the same time. There is a huge difference. The new chip focuses quick even in low light. Almost impossible to to get a blury pix, even if moving while pressing the shutter. Tried with Barcode software. On small barcodes the new chip grabs the code and on the old chip you screw arround forever. Also the color accuracy is almost perfect on the new chip. On the old one it appears to accent blues. HTC is trying to cover it up and claims there is no difference in cameras or software, only a different vender for 2 months and now they are back to the origional camera. That sounds like a crock to me.

HBoot 2.02, HW ver 0004, custom kernels?

Pardon my ignorance here, but I just swapped out my Epic for an EVO, and I can't seem to find a solid answer for this:
I have a Ver 0004 EVO with HBoot 2.02, and after checking out my evoinfo.txt, it seems I have a Nova screen. Is there any way I can find out what version of the camera I have, so I can see if I can install custom kernels or not? I'm assuming that since the drivers source code wasn't released yet, there are still no custom kernels for the new cameras. I'm currently running MYN's with HTC's 17 kernel, s-off, but to be honest I'd love to try one of the Desire HD roms, or CM since I had it on my Hero.
Also, I'm still within my 30 days and have NO issues with swapping my EVO until I get the hardware version combos I want. What are the differences between the nova and epson screens? If I have a hardware 0004 phone anyways, should I be looking for an Epson screen over the Novatek, or are the Nova screens better? Picture quality, backlight, color saturation, etc.

If its a version 4, you have the newer camera hardware.
Also, I'm still within my 30 days and have NO issues with swapping my EVO until I get the hardware version combos I want.

What are the differences between the nova and epson screens? If I have a hardware 0004 phone anyways, should I be looking for an Epson screen over the Novatek, or are the Nova screens better?

nova screens are a little brighter, and have more of a blue "cool" tint to them. epsons have more of a warm tone, and the whites look a little yellow.

OK, so look for HW 0003, with a Nova screen. Sad part is, the phone I originally swapped out was that combo, but there was horrible light leakage.

I didn't know 0004's had nova that must be very rare I still can't tell which I have the dmesg letters hurt my eyes

[Q] Supersonic n00b, not XDA n00b, got a question...

Hello everyone:
I'm not new to android phones, r00ting, flashing, adb, etc., but I am new to the HTC Supersonic, and there is an overwhelming amount of info here, and it's hard sifting through it all to get the most up-to-date info. So here's my question:
I've recently purchased an HTC Evo and it's running hardware 004. It's got S-off and ready to flash. Which kernels/roms are fully working with 004 hardware?

So how about the acclaimed SavagedZen kernel? I know that previously, it had issues with ch00sing between camera or wimax for 004 hardware. Do you know if this has been res0lved?
Finally, are there are recent, updated roms/kernels out there that are not fully compatible with 004 hardware? Is this a non-issue in this stage of the game?
I'm running CM7 nightly now and not only is it smooth as melted butter on toast, but both wimax and camera are working splendidly...

I don't think 004 is an issue anymore. Ever since HTC released the code.. and any sense Tom with 3.70 will work. If you want smooth sense you should go to mikfroyo. If you want sexy decent smooth sense hobgoblin myns. If you want extra smooth with decent sexy and no crappy sense, go to cm7 + sz. And make sure you read up about what SBC is on the SavagedZen thread.

The savaged-zen kernels are nice and do play nicely with your hardware. Though the only make sbc kernels now. There is a user [forget the exact name] who makes "unofficial" non-sbc kernels of the savaged-en. The exact same kernel, just the sbc mod removed. Also you should be all set with picking a rom now.

Who has Hardware 0002?

Who has EVO4G hardware version 0002 and what ROM's seem to run the best? I am currently using Kings Unleashed Ultra Blakk R3, but the battery just doesn't seem to last very long. Any info is appreciated!

I had an 002 until 2 weeks ago, but I don't see why the hardware version is important. Try different kernel combos. Also, people have stated that using the newer 1.90 PRI drains the battery faster. Try experimenting with the 1.77 PRI and different kernels until you find something that improves the battery life. I'm very happy with my set up. Currently I'm running Netarchy's 4.3.4-cfs-nohavs-suv-nosbc and I'm happy with it.

I do, release day EVO. I'm running CM7 RC4 with great life, turned the phone off at 49% after 9 hours last night on stock battery.

Ok I thought I had read somewhere on another forum that different hardwares are an issue. Thanks!

How do you like CM7, I hear a lot of different things about it. Some people say it has a lot of quirks? What kernel do you run with it?

It would be news to me as to my knowledge, the only difference in the 004 models is the camera hardware. If you do have the link, post it up. I'm curious.

He's right and wrong, in the past the camera issue caused certain kernels to break the camera use on 004 this is not the case anymore, run whatever "newer" kernel you'd like, good luck
