Has anyone got a link to the DHD Stock Bloatware? - I Can't get the OTA 2.3, I'm T-Mobile UK, not sure if that matters as it's amazonmp3 i'm after (can only find Droidx Stock-app), I know what to do with the original apk if I can find it, settings privs in RootExplorer etc... (what an idiot though, cant believe I removed it! Just had to try "Chuck Norris Mode" lol)
However, besides flashing to a stock ROM I've found the 1.72.405.3_R2 Update here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885996 I'm pretty sure I can just rename & install this with the Android's default bootloader (Power + Vol-Down), *But Can I?
With the OTA I get a quarter way until the Bad-Times-Exlpination-Mark-Triangle pops up! I Only Temproot with VisionARY for cache cleaner, AdFree, Titanium etc Keep it frosty so i'm thinkin it is just that removed app : D
>> With that said though I am tempted to just De-Brand and install the latest Stock ROM from xmoo, (asuming I do have to De-Brand to Do it, from what I've read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889238&highlight=froyo+2.3+manual+update&page=2) - I figure that way OTA is back on for future updates. <<
Anyway, hope you all had a good Crimbo, any ideas let me know, your help would be much appreciated : D
There is no OTA for 2.3 yet. I'll see it I can find that com.amazon.mp3.apk --> com.amazon.mp3.apk
There is a small guide to debrand your DHD --> HERE
2.21?
Ah!, well the 2.21 is it? (1.72.405.3) But I've since seen one of your posts, 'VisonARY exploit patched in 2.21'? so if I get this OTA im gonna loose VisonARY anyway yea?
Also Nice One for the Amazon App your a star ; D
Yes if you apply the OTA you will lose root & S-OFF.
You can update to the newest firmware, you just need to do it in stages and flash everything separately. Not the whole ROM or RUU

Hello Guys
Just bought my Desire - but it was pre-installed with the 2.2, is there any easy solution for rooting this?
Downgrade then use unrevoked
Hi Numsefis,
you need to downgrade your phones HBOOT. Read this: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745903
DaCe
okay.. that's great, but hoped that there would be an easier solution, for the HBOOT 0,92.. But i'll root it and install new firmware... Will you prefer the OpenDesire or Stock ROM?
you will loose your ROM and all settings. The .zip contains a Stock 2.1 ROM. After the downgrade you need to unrevoke and flash a new one.
I'm using this: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
very nice, will it be possible to make a backup with the HTC function before root, and then restore when rooted?
What's the Radio package for?
The Backup only stores personal Data. Your ROM will be gone. After unrevoking your phone you will have the Nandroid BackUp.
Basically, the radio rom is the firmware that runs the phone, wireless and blutooth portions of the phone. Newer versions are likly to improve performance or fix bugs.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
OK thanks....
Then i root the phone, install 2,2 then make a nandroid backup when the phone is configured... And also install the radio fix...
Hopefully i can get paid apps in my market
downgrade -> unrevoke -> radio -> rom -> enjoy

ps: sry for double post
Thx alot for the info, but my phone was running HBOOT 0,92, so i think it's okay
from my link
Q. What is the difference between HBOOT 0.83 and 0.92?
A. 0.92 is installed if you apply the official OTA froyo update. If you care about rooting and custom ROMs, you want to avoid the OTA update currently.
Q. How do I downgrade to HBOOT 0.80?
A. Don't - there is no reason to. If you want to root or use a custom ROM or debrand there is no need to. If you have an SLCD screen, the current method for downgrading will break your screen.
Q. Can I debrand my phone with HBOOT 0.83?
A. Yes. If your software version is 1.21.405.2 or lower (for example, branded O2 phones), you can simply use this RUU with a goldcard to debrand and install stock 1.21.405.2. You can then upgrade to OTA froyo if you wish to. This RUU will also flash your HBOOT to 0.83.

have you installed the USB Driver like the html document says?
Yep, got it working, the guide i read, missed a step, that the ADB driver should be installed under Restore....
Now i got my phone rooted, and installed the Market fix... BUT i can't see that the market is unlocked for all programs???
Hi Guys,
I bumped into something earlier and i want to ask about it.
"System Software Updates" does not work if you have S-Off? Meaning you will not have the automatic OTA update should HTC release any software updates like gingerbread anytime soon..
Can anyone explain this to me or atleast clarify? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Much Thanks!

As far as i understand (and as long as you do not install any other custom ROM than the DHD stock ROM), the system software updates should work fine. But if you have deleted some apps or changed something to the system then you will not be able to install the updates!
Do not worry so much about this though, guys here on xda will have a better version for you as soon as htc releases any update.
but this is only specific to changing the STOCK ROM to a custom one. i believe updating and stock app like Adobe Reader won't affect your functionality to do Software Updates right?

Yes. As long as you keep all the apps that came with your DHD, you can download and install software updates (does not matter if you are rooted or not).
But if you have done ENG S-OFF and installed engineered version of H-BOOT and then CWM then you have to flash back the original recovery i guess...
Yes you need stock recovery sure ota.

okay..one more clarification and i'm done..forgive me for so many stupid (it may seem) questions..i'm helping a friend who does not understand english..LOL
so if I have Stock HTC ROM 2.2 Perma Rooted + Radio S-OFF + Super-CID + Eng S-OFF and i did not install CWM and never installed any custom roms (followed jkoljo's one click S-Off and Eng S-off Tool) then i should be okay with Software Updates over the air right?
Once again, much thanks!

I'm not happy to see you, that's a Desire HD in my pocket.
Actually I have observed the same behavior after downgrading and setting radio & ENG S-off.
I haven't changed anything else.
I used jkolio's excellent tools and instructions.
Now don't get me wrong. Not one bad word about jkolio. As far as i'm concerned the man is a life saver. Losing updates OTA is annoying, but compared to losing root is a no brainer.
I'm simply reporting an observed behavior.

Thanks for your thoughts It is actually Visionary that causes you to lose OTAs, you can try undoing permroot. My tools do not modify /system in any way.

Hi again.
@ Jkolio: You are quite welcome .
Regarding OTA:
I tried the suggested approach. In a nutshell: Yes, it did the trick. However not without a couple of hitches along the way.
1: Unrooted w/Visionary r14. DHD reboots as expected.
2: Test using screenshot it. Prog. reports root missing. So far so good.
3: Attempting OTA update. (running 1.32.405.3). OTA tool hangs at the checking phase. Just as if root persisted.
Thinking:"No sweat" "will reroot & report result"
4: Temproot (Visionary). A OK.
5: Attempting permroot. Getting "error - Force Closure" msg. about ½ sec. before DHD reboots.
6: During reboot msg. recieved about OTA update!!!
7: Updating to 1.32.405.6
8: Update done. Reboot. Receiving multiple program force closures including rom manager.
9: Uninstalling botched prgs.
10: attempting reinstall via Market. Market also force closes.
11: Hard Reset.
12: Everything now appears to be humming along nicely & am now running 1.32.405.6. but som setup work to be done.
So. Before you try this. backup what you´re not prepared to loose.
Regards
ELO

Hey guys, I should have posted this about a month (maybe even longer) ago, but I've been dealing with some health issues and couldn't be bothered. First off I have a rooted phone (with S-OFF) but I like keeping the stock sense build. I upgraded OTA to 2.2 some time ago, then there was an OTA update a few months after that (which I was able to install without any problems after I replaced a couple of files that had gotten modified), now this newer OTA update refuses to install.
It tells me it needs to reboot to start installing so I click the button to reboot and it counts down, but it never reboots. Is it somehow detecting that my phone is rooted? I would like to have the most up to date OTA update installed on my phone at all times so any help or ideas would be great (also I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but I've been afk for a bit so I might have missed some things).

Blah I have to go back to 2.2 stock? Oh well, it's not the worse thing in the world (I already had to do it once) and those are great instructions (plus I've wanted to have the latest version of Clockworkmod installed for a while and using Unrevoked means I won't have to mess with the payload/su/etc files). Thanks!
I also thought of something (kind of late though). I was using a custom kernel, which might have been the issue too. But I went ahead and re-enabled S-On, however now for some reason my phone is checking for errors on my SD card (no idea how long it will take, or why it's doing that), but does anyone have a link for that 17.7mb file of the 3.26.605.1 update? I found the full RUU, but it's huge and I rather just upgrade than possibly wipe everything out (and I don't know when my phone will have the OTA ready again). Thanks for any help!
Is it necessary to update or downgrade then upgrade the OS?

That seems to be what that linked thread says, but I don't believe that is correct (that's why I am looking for that 17.7mb OTA file). I was able to install the first 2.2 update (aka 2.2.1) without issue after I restored some files that were altered (either by rooting or installing the wireless tether app that's hosted on Google Code). However this OTA update (aka 2.2.2) isn't popping up again for me to install, so I am going to see if I can extract just the upgrade data from the official RUU. I have to wait until later tonight because I need my phone to be operational for another few hours but I'll post back with results (and files if need be =).
Yeah I tried the RUU update and as expected it did a total wipe... bringing back system via nandroid and will try something else.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969973 <= using Jay's thread, which is much like the post that was first given to me in this thread. Not re-enabling S-ON seems to be the problem... lesson learned, don't try shortcuts unless you know what you are doing (and I've been afk from the "Dinc Scene" too long for that =p.
Edit 2: Up to date and 100% working!
Hey guys,
I'm having a problem I hope someone out there can help me with;
I have the HTC Desire (ACR 6275 Bravo C CDMA) from Cellular South. Bought it in OCT 2010, and I soon realized the space on it sucked. I was jealous of all my friends that had already gotten the 2.2 update and could store apps on the memory card. So I researched the information and learned I could ROOT it and then manually update the system. So, I rooted it, however when it came time to manually update it, I found the instructions to be confusing and I got scared I would BRICK it so I just gave up. Well now that I can get the REAL update, it wont update due to me rooting it. I have researched how to unroot and have tried several RUU downloads, including the ones through unlocker.com but nothing seems to work. The error on the update asked if I wanted to reset back to Factory Settings and I selected yes, but that hasn't helped.
HOW DO I EITHER unroot the phone, or find an easy way to manually update it myself.
I have recently installed ROM Manager but I am unsure how to use it.
I am a Novice at this stuff.
Thanks, Paul
I was wanting to install this update on my cell south desire also however I have not found a way to do so. Ultimately, I think a RUU for the cell south desire is needed. I've tried flashing the recovery.img from the froyo OTA update and it still fails to install.
For anyone contemplating on helping out, the initial problem is assertions from CID checks in the update script. Removing the assertions for the CID check from the update script and attemping to apply with clockwork mod recovery doesn't get the update installed either, rather it runs through and kicks back to the main menu in the recovery without updating anything or showing any errors. I don't know if the results are the same with the stock recovery.img from the OTA update because I don't know how to do a manual update via the stock recovery.
I'm no expert so hopefully someone can chime in on how to get this update installed.
Same here, I have tried almost everything to unroot my phone. I thought that the OTA update was just supposed to over write the root apk and all that, but it refuses to. It gets about a 1/4 of the way done and just "!". I've tried SuperOneClick to unroot and it always hangs up also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can't install an OTA over a rooted handset - it buggers it up
If you wanna go stock you'll need the RUU
The problem is there are no cellular south RUU's available, at least not publicly. There is also no way to S-ON that I'm aware of, the unrevoked forever S-ON patch does not support CDMA desires.
I have read where people were applying OTA updates with other phones (and thus losing root) so there is a lot of mixed information going around about what you can and can't do with OTA updates (really anything regarding android and modding). I read one thread last night here on xda where Desire Z (or maybe HD, can't remember) where successfully applying the OTA froyo updates to their phones back in december with modified update scripts to get past the assertions (that's where I got the idea from in my previous post). The OTA update contains boot, recovery and system images... I personally fail to see how these updates can't be made to work, but then again I'll admit that I'm new to the scene.
I've read that since the cellular south desire is a CDMA device that any CMDA RUU will work. I'm unsure about this... If we did this, I doubt that everything will work correctly and it will not prompt for the new 2.2 update on our networks. Has anyone tried this out yet?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
I've been thinking about this most of the day while working and I honestly don't see why we couldn't flash the boot, radio, recovery, and system images from the oTA update with adb and go on about our business. Does anyone have any experience doing this and have any reason not do it other than potentially loosing root? What are the dangers?
So, I've got the update installed. Took lots of trial and error before I got it, my phone is not bricked/buggered/otherwise unusable. The update went without a hitch once I got things right, now running the OTA HTC Desire Android 2.2 update from cellular south. Ok, so, on to how I did it.
Requirements
a. Android SDK (need adb) or another way to flash the stock recovery image
b. The OTA update zip (if you let it download, it saves to /sdcard/download/)
c. A goldcard.
d. A stock system.
Before you get started, you need to restore your system to the stock rom via a nandroid backup or whatever you maybe have used to do backups. If you don't have a stock system (all stock apps, including cell south apps), the update will not install. It will error out about a quarter of the way through.
Once the system is back to the stock (other than the S-OFF and Super User), you need to create a gold card. If you don't have a gold card, you are going to get assertion errors in regards to ro.cid. There are lots of guides out there on how to do this, I used the unlockr guide:
theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
After your goldcard is ready, insert it into your phone, download the OTA update, don't install it. Once it's done downloading, copy it to your computer and extract the archive. In the archive, there is another archive that contains the hboot, recovery, system and radio images. Extact this archive (had to use 7zip over here) and copy the recovery.img to your sdcard. Reboot your phone again into recovery (I was using clockword mod), and launch a shell via adb. When you get the shell, you need to mount your sdcard (mountall -a didn't work for me like some guides suggest). My sdcard was /dev/block/mmcblk0p1. After that flash the recovery image. Complete instructions (with adb in %PATH%):
Code:
C:\Users\jp>adb shell
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
~ # ls /dev/block
ls /dev/block
mmcblk0 mtdblock0 mtdblock2 mtdblock4
mmcblk0p1 mtdblock1 mtdblock3 mtdblock5
~ # mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard
mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard
~ # cd sdcard
cd sdcard
/sdcard # flash_image recovery recovery.img
flash_image recovery recovery.img
/sdcard # exit
exit
Once the stock recovery has been restored, you can download and install the OTA update as normal or continue the installation from your previous download to get recovery.img.
The super user app is still there, however, as expected root is lost. I don't think unrevoked (what I used) supports the hboot version 1.06 that comes with this update so don't expect to get root back.
There is a new wifi tethering app which doesn't show up in the app drawer under sense, however it's there in launcher pro and probably any other launcher besides sense.
Forgot to mention:
If for some reason the update won't install, you can reroot and reflash the clockwordmod recovery. I did this several times while trying to get the update installed. When I encountered problems, I would re-run unrevoked and start over.
superuser.apk
If you want to get rid of superuser.apk, do it before you install the update. Since this procedure doesn't turn security back on, I think that it can probably be done with an update.zip however I haven't figured out how to properly sign the updates yet. I've tried a few tools and a custom script to delete it, but I can't get past the signature verification with the stock recovery.
What hboot version does 2.2 come with?
HBOOT is at 1.06 in this update.
Well, I'm screwed... I didn't backup my phone before rooting it...
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Doesn't matter if it's rooted, you just need to restore the stock system (os and apps) if you did a nandroid backup after rooting. The gold card will get you around the rooted issue, at least I think that's what allowed me to finally install the update. I fear that from here out I'll need the gold card to install any updates unless I can turn security back on. There is another thread where a cellsouth user had unrooted his desire however he didn't give any details. I think he used an altell RUU to do it though. I haven't looked at how the RUU's work but I'm wondering if they can be made to use the files from the OTA update. This would really solve a lot of problems in regards to unrooting cellsouth desires.

Yes, flashing a 2.2 ROM
Seriously it's nothing difficult to flash ROM's, if you want to flash a new one:
download whichever one you want and place it onto your SD-Card (somewhere you can remember).
Turn off the phone. Hold volume down and power at the same time, which will boot you into HBOOT.
Use the volume down key to locate RECOVERY, and press the power key.
This will boot you into recovery, you use the trackpad to navigate, and not the volume down/ power key. From here, go to "Backup & Restore", and backup your current ROM.
Once that's finished, go to "Advanced", and select "Wipe Dalvic Cache". Then, go back to the main menu, select "Install zip from sd", "choose zip from sdcard", and find the ROM you want to install.
Select the ROM, scroll down to "yes", and press the trackball.
Hope this helps
If you need any help post or PM me.
I didn't want to start a new thread for this so I'm posting it in this one. I just came across the solution in this thread to update from rooted 2.1 to 2.2 with the OTA update. For warranty purposes I want to return to stock, only on 2.2. However, now when I try to check for software updates and download the OTA 2.2 update, my phone says "your phone is up to date" "no update is available for your phone." Even though on the previous screen it says 2.1 update 1. Someone who has the OTA update downloaded to their phone, could you please upload it? I would really appreciate it.

A while ago I rooted a friends phone so they could play with custom roms. I used the Unrevoked3 tools to do the root and I believe I did the S-off with Unrevoked forever. She doesn't really want to mess with it anymore and as a result of the root she is stuck on Froyo. What needs to be done in order to get her back to a state where she can recieve the OTA updates?
I'm not sure what prevents the OTA but off the top of my head it could be any or all of these:
Custom Recover
S-Off
Custom Rom
Updated Radio
She is using a Sense Rom currently (I believe Virtuous) as she wanted to make it look as similar to what she was used to before. I'm hoping to prevent wiping it as well if possible. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this back to a point where she can get the Gingerbread update and possibly point me to the instructions on how to do it?
This will help you get back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436
By doing this she will no longer have root and may not be able to regain root again.
If she wants a stock Gingerbread Rom, just flash the Stock Plus Gingerbread Rom in the dev section. It'd is a lot easier/faster and still have root. Also going back to stock for future updates may be pointless as this phone may no longer get any other updates.

I checked out that thread but it looked old and it was a little confusing. What I really need to know is which component needs to replaced in order to get OTAs. I don't need the phone set to factory. In fact I would prefer to keep the current data in tact. I just need to allow the phone to receive the official gingerbread OTA. If that OTA removes root then that's fine. My friend just doesn't want to have to manually load updates going forward and she doesn't care about root.
Go here and download the Froyo RUU the PB31IMG version http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22 . Then make sure the file is named PB31IMG and place it on the root of your SD Card boot in to Hboot, let it load and press volume up to accept the install and it'll do it's thing. I'm not sure if this will give you stock recovery, which you need to receive the OTA updates. If it does not get it here http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=28 and follow the same PB31IMG steps as I mentioned above (Make sure you delete the RUU PB31IMG file first ). Then just wait for the update. I think you can try the Giongerbread RUU as well and you will be good to go but I have never tried that one before.
I would probably just stick with root and get the stock plus rooted rom. The plus features alone are much much better then what the stock offers anyways.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260994
And if she is still on froyo then I would assume she still has the froyo radio, so don't forget to flash the new gingerbread radio to coincide with the new gingerbread rom you just flashed for her

To receive the ota you need to have the stock recovery, and have all stock apps still installed and enabled. To get to complete stock you need to do an ruu. Either a PB31IMG.zip thru hboot, or the ruu.exe with a pc. However this latest released ota is the final update our phones will ever officialy get, so you dont have to worry about future otas. That being said i would just do as others have sugested and flash one of the stock roms, either wildstangs ota rom or jermaines stock plus. Wildstangs is complete stock, and jermaines is stock with some cool features added. You can find them both in the dev section.
