Found this while browsing Ebay for batteries. Can charge both your phone with battery in it and a spare battery at the same time. Pretty slick and at only $20 not a bad price either. Might be worth it.http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Sprint-EVO-4G-KiDiGi-2nd-Battery-USB-Charger-Cradle-/140478601582?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item20b52d596e#ht_2155wt_1139
Looks pretty nice. Post some pics and a review when you get it.
I am interested if it can charge BOTH with only the DC cord or if it needs DC and USB to do both.
Sweet.. didnt know there was anything like this. Thanks for sharing info.

I didn't buy it. I was just checking it out. I was kinda hoping someone here would have it and report their experience with it. If anyone has one of these please report on it, because if the Evo will fit with an extended case and if it will charge a 3500mah battery I will definitely buy it.

Looks like in the pictures it might only charge 1500mah. It would be nice if it charge extended batteries too. Maybe someone will chime in on this that has something similar to charge extendeds with and fits the Evo with an extended battery cover on it.
I am going to email the seller about whether or not it will charge bigger batteries. I'll report back when I get a reply.

I bought this cradle and am disappointed in it. The phone only charges through USB, so it does me no good when I turn my computer off at night.
Also, the USB connection itself is funky, which might just be a problem with my unit. I don't think I've ever gotten HTC Sync to connect through the cradle. Charging and disk drive mode work, but to sync, I have to plug the cable directly into the phone.
I hate that I blew $20 on it, but am about to pull the trigger on the other one mentioned anyway, and hope that it really does charge both with both cables. I had one cradle that bled AC back through the USB cable which kept my fans and keyboard lights on, so I had to unplug the AC at night.

Thanks for letting us know. I guess it is a good idea, just some design flaws. I am seriously thinking about getting the other one posted in this thread. It looks like it might do what I was hoping the one in the OP did.

I've got this one and before anyone jumps on it, know that unlike some of the other similar looking cradles that charges both the phone and the battery from one power source, this one has the battery charger and the phone charger on seperate circuits, so you need to plug one in to the wall and...well the other one also in to the wall the cable that goes in to the mini usb in the back goes to the phone and the one thats built in goes to the wall

I just ordered this one because deolarte suggested that it would charge the phone and the battery from either AC or USB. Are you saying that yours doesn't?
Just to let you guys know I got an email back from the seller of the one I originally posted. I asked them if it charged extended batteries and if the phone would fit in it with an extended battery cover on it. Here is their reply:
Dear ryhouse23,
Hi,
Thank you for your email.
We are sorry, this unit is NOT compatible with extended battery, it ONLY work the standard battery.

Looks like this one is only good if you are using 1500mAh. Sorry guys I thought it looked nice and probably is if you don't use extended batteries, which are pretty much a must with the Evo.

That is correct, the ebay one, unless its a totally different one internally but looks the same on the outside, does NOT charge both from one source, each requires their own power

Well that bites the big one! All of my cradles dating back to the HTC Apache charged both with either cable. The only problem I had with a couple was voltage bleed through from the AC to the USB, as I stated earlier. It's such a simple circuit, why did they stop using it?!?
Now I'll be stuck with two cradles and still have no way to charge my phone when I turn my computer off, unless I plug into the AC charger directly.

I bought a battery with charger off ebay. It shipped from china, the battery charger works great and the batteries that I got perform well. My issue is the charger has a usb port on the bottom and when I plug my phone in it thinks I am connected to a computer. Could there possibly be malicious code trying to invade my phone?

I've heard it has something to do with the number of pins on the thing you plug into. Same thing happens to me when I plug into my car.
No need to worry about anything, though.
The cable that came with my Nexus One is now doing this. It worked fine at first with my Inc but not it does nothing but charge. Wont let me transfer anything from my comp.
Thanks guys. I read something about some energizer charger having a trojan so I thought I would ask the experts. Weird thing that happens is if it is charging a battery and I plug my phone into the usb port on it the screen goes completely unresponsive until I unplug. Guess I can't expect too much when I get a charger and two 1500mah batteries from china for $9.99 on ebay.

I have the Energizer charger. Best "cheap" charger I bought.
Haven't been NetBus'd lately from it tho (yes, I'm THAT old)
When Chinese hacks me (often). I always add the words "in bed" on the end.
Where can I find a good car charger that charges my Evo at a good rate? This weekend I was traveling and was in Detroit for a few hours and my phone died, I get out into my car and plug the phone in and I have to wait about 10 minutes before I can even turn the phone on. Then I use it for about 10 minutes and the phone dies WHILE BEING PLUGGED IN!

When you connect your Evo to this charger does it show up in Battery Status as Charging (USB) or Charging (AC)?
Battery Status can be found by tapping Menu > Settings > About phone > Battery.

I bought a MicroUSB car charger made by Duracell for Blackberrys at Sears for $15. (I work at Sears, it was convenient.) That thing outperforms anything I could have hoped for. Listening to podcast on the highway while using it for nav and some Vlingo text messages (with Vlingo Actively listening) and it charges through all of it.

I've had several and surprisingly, the best one I've found are the Sprint-branded ones. I bought mine on Ebay (I entered 'Sprint micro USB car charger OEM' for the search terms).
UPDATE: I can also confirm that when the phone is being charged by this charger, it registers as 'AC Charging'

It shows up as AC. But I'll confirm it tomorrow when I go for a ride. My only issue with it so far is, i don't know if its the device or my car, that I dont get anything above 500mAh. So when I'm running GPS, 3G, music, and navigation, I'm usually losing 10-100mAh... I'm in contact with Kensington about it to see whats the deal. I'll be trying the charger in another car seeing as though my cars been having problems starting up in this cold weather.
I got two of these chargers from ebay for 4.50/each shipped. They charge as AC and I've used them with navigation. Actually quickly charges and I like the retractable cord plus comes with a wall charger. Check it out. Very decent buy for the cheap price.

The 500mA maximum you describe is typical of an Evo which is charging in USB mode. I'm very interested in what your phone says re: charging mode.

Ah, I see what you're saying now(Checked this while charging on desktop). If this is the reason my Evo is losing charge then I'm curious to know if there is work around to this.
Post #1 in THIS THREAD discusses the issue in depth and post #2 lists some chargers which charge in AC mode right out of the box.
That's also why I'd like a definitive answer about the Kensington charger: So I can add it to the database.

I've had the point*mobl car charger from day one and love it. I have it for both my Evo's and since it also has a usb port on the front I use that to charge my TP2 as well. Works great for me.

FINALLY: A dock that charges both phone & extra battery. Maybe extended compatible..
http://cgi.ebay.com/DESKTOP-DUAL-CH...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item4aa6d894b2
About time... This seems to be extended battery compatible since the way it looks to sit in the dock is perfect. It wont interfere with the extended part as it doesnt sit deep into the dock and the extra battery charges the SAME time.
This looks like it might be the same brand that I used on my TP or TP2 that charged both the phone and extra battery with either USB or AC. If someone buys it, please report back if it does or not.
I might get it... 25 bucks tho ahh.

I personally have had this one for a few months now, I like it because I dont have to take off my case and it charges my backup battery's. The clear plastic thing is removable if you have a case on the phone. Once you remove the clear plastic thing there is no support for the phone. This has not been a problem for me. Still charges great!

EDIT :
It does have a indent about the thickness of 2 battery`s so it might not work with all cases, depending on thickness of case.

This is the one to get, and has been discussed on the forums here a few months back. if you search for EVO dock you'll find the thread, but those Hong Kong ones are junk, don't usually charge both even though they say they do, take weeks to arrive and oftentimes don't fit right. The one from nakedcellphone is a quality dock, shipping is fast and you can charge an extended in the extra slot.

In the eBay picture, it looks like the cradle has only one USB port, is that true? If so, it still won't charge the phone and/or battery when the computer is off, unless you unplug from the computer and plug it into the AC adapter.
I work for sprint and we have had one for about two months now lol. It charges your phone and a secondary battery, with a wall plug in or USB. They are 49.99
So this cradle charges both the phone and a spare battery from either one usb cable or ac adapter? I currently have a kidigi cradle which requires two cables and only charges phone thru usb which makes it think its plugged into a computer even when its not. This is slightly annoying as it always has to prep the SD card upon every unplug from the charger and sometimes messes up some of the sense widgets. Not sure why.

Yeah I have the default connection type set to charge only, and "ask me" unchecked but all this does is not put the usb symbol in the notification bar. It still thinks its charging via usb because the widgets always refresh and it always preps sd card upon unplug. Is this what you were talking about or is there another setting I am missing? Thanks.

Does this have the magnet in it that allows the phone to automatically go into dock mode? We just went to Sprint/Evo 4g from VZW/Droid and my current dock charges both phone & battery w/o putting in USB mode plus allows for dock mode which I use to silent all tones so I can sleep. Now I need something that will function the same way as that one as inexpensively as possible. I'm reading that lots of the cheap ones don't have this so I want to make sure that this one does from people who have one and speak English. Thanks!
Does anyone know what the power requirements are/will be for the XOOM? I expect it to have a good battery, but I still want to set up or simply buy a solar charging system for when I am not home. I might utilize the barometer to try geocaching.
Also, will it be trickle chargeable over USB?
I have the same question on USB charging. We know it has its own AC charger and special port. I asked on another forum this question and will post back if I hear anything.

If you have not yet tried the iGo tips/chargers, I strongly recommend you consider. Instead of a gazillion chargers, you change the tip. I picked up one for my laptop that works both in my car and house. It came with tips for almost every laptop imaginable so I can let others charge in my car, too. I am guessing one of my laptop tips might work for the xoom. Also the laptop charger has a USB port so I can charge my laptop and a device off so USB at the same time.
It would seem 5V would be the norm. Its the amperage that I am wondering.
We know the ipad in which this tablet draws its battery comparison uses 5V and 2.1amps.
We will find out soon enough
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
The charger is a 12V 1.5A charger. The tip is not a common one; definitely small and looks like it will break easily. I hope decent options come soon for using the contact dots.

I wonder why they went with this kind of connector. Too bad they didn't spend the money to include some kind of inductive charging system. It wouldn't have increased the cost of the tablet that much, maybe $10 in parts.
I just checked EBay and I found combo silicone case + "micro USB car charger" for the xoom. I wonder if the car charger is legit.

On the youtube video, the ac adapter is shown, and the writing says it is 1500mA. I think it only provides 500ma to the spare batt charger, if it is like other spare batt chargers I have seen. 500mA for the phone will barely keep up with general use. I would be interested to see what real world use is for charge times both in phone and spare battery.
Its a damn good dock, just ordered of amazon for £15 inc P&P which works out £5 cheaper than mobilefun and if you want next day (1-2days) its just under £20 so still cheaper. 500A is not an issue for me as i only plan to keep the phone docked (compared to leaving the phone flat not charging) so not too bothered about the charge but do like the idea of it being able to charge a spare battery.
So does that mean that the dock can output only 500 mA or that the charger that comes with it can only output that much? Can't we just use our stock charger that outputs 1000 mA with the dock or is that not how it works?

According to the specs, no matter what adapter you use (theirs is 1500mah) you only get 500.

Well, that's a bummer. That means double the charging time?

Find out when it arrives i guess, but it realy doesnt effect me much if it takes longer to charge aslong as it charges both to 100%. I get through a whole day easily enough and ill be using this to charge overnight as I sleep so.
Mine should be getting here on Friday so I'll post a review once I put it through its paces.
I ordered a white one couple days ago too. Be here any day now. Will let u know too

Looks like mine is getting here a day early so I'll get it sometime today.
I wasn't expecting to receive mine until tomorrow, but it arrived today.
I'm unable to take any pics atm, but when I get my backup phone back from my buddy tomorrow night Ill be able too. He needed an unlocked phone for his trip to Israel so I loaned him my POS Focus.
For now I will say that my GS3 with a Gimmick Five Triobump BARELY fits, but it does fit and charges fine. The bottom curvature with the little slot removed is just slightly off from the curve of the bumper. I can slide the phone with case in and with a little pressure it sits perfectly, however if you move the dock around too much the device will be pushed up ever so slightly causing it to disconnect from the USB port. A light tap on the top of the phone and it'll sit right again.
Ill find out tonight how well it actually charges my phone since it was already at 100% when I received the dock. Now as for the battery compartment in the back, it stopped charging my QCell 2300 @90% sadly. Ill see if this trend continues after a few charge cycles. /crosses fingers
The content of my package consisted of the dock itself, a us DC adapter and 1 USB-micro cable not 2 and the dock only has 1 micro USB port so you have to choose to connect to the DC adapter or to your PC not both unless I'm really stupid and overlooked a 2nd port. I was under the impression that I would be able to have the dock plugged in with the DC charger while also running a USB from the dock to a PC or other device for syncing. Nope, Guess not...
I don't have much more to say at the moment. Gimme a couple days with it and we'll see.

I got mine today too, like you I was surprised there wasn't another usb port, but looking at the youtube video there really is only one port. My spare battery also stopped charging at around 93%, I think it may be due to the protection circuit in there. In terms of charging, I had it plugged in with usb and it charged my s3 from 40% to 100% in about 2 hours, but bearing in mind that I was also charging another battery in the second slot. I think charge times are good given that the USB max is 500mA, the thing I am wondering about is that the ac adaptor that comes with it has a output of 1500mA (even 500mA more than the samsung supplied one), I haven't tested it as both my batteries are full atm but ill let you know whether the charging via ac adaptor reduces the charge time by a third.
Interestingly enough, my phone now sits in the dock PERFECTLY with the triobump on. It sit in there nice and snug. Doesn't pop loose anymore if I jostle it around. Very nice
Just for reference, took about 50min to bring my QCell 2300 from 61% to fully charged using the DC adapter. No secondary battery chargin.Just the phone. Not a very heavy battery use day today. I was actually busy at work... lmao

Same here. Just charged my phone from 41% to 100% in about 2 hours. I can live with that. Don't have a spare battery yet so I haven't had a chance to try that out yet. And the my S3 with a Cruzerlite TPU case fits perfectly in the cradle.
I'm using the stock S3 AC adapter and usb cable btw.
just to let everyone know, charging with the supplied ac adaptor is 2.5x faster than using usb, the only issue being is that the supplied usb cable is a bit short, so ill have to buy a bigger one

By "supplied ac adapter", you mean the one that came with the Kidigi dock right? Can't you just plug the S3 usb cable into that?
