[Q] Unable to connect to mobile network - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to everyone,
I woke this morning to find and unpleasant problem with my HTC Desire. I take it to make a call and found that i wasn't connected to any mobile network!
I rebooted it but still only emergency calls. I tried Airplane mode Off and On, no go.
I make nandroid backups every time i make changes to rom, radio or anything. I wiped everything and made a clean install of rom, restored couple of
nandroid backups, installed older version of radio baseband, installed different ROM... and still it won't connect to mobile network.
Sometimes it scans available network sometimes not, it just says Searching. When there are networks available and i select one of them to connect it says "Unable to
Connect to this network at this time. Please try again later."
I tried different SIM cards but with the same problem.
At the moment i have:
ROM: Oxygen-2.0-RC4 (switching between Oxygen-2.0-RC4, LeeDroid 2.3b)
Baseband: 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 (switching between 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27)
HBOOT-0.93.0001
FYI i didn't make any changes to rom or whatsoever when this occurred, it happened overnight.
Everything else works OK, Wifi, GPS.
I would appreciate any help
Thank you

Since you did not change anything on the phone how about checking if your provider has issues, unless the other sim is also from a different provider.
Otherwise it might be a app or widget that messes with the apn settings.

I tried a SIM from another provider, a different sim from same provider and still won't work. I also tried my sim card in another phone and it works just fine there. So i can confirm it's the my phone that's not accepting to connect to any network no matter what sim i put in.
As for apps and widgets i currently don't have any since i'm trying to find out the problem with network, i have wiped everything and it's just clean Oxygen 2.0 RC4.

I'm kinda desperate to at least find out what's wrong, so please anyone shed some light

Have you checked over your APN settings?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

I don't believe APNs are the issue in my case because the phone won't connect to network at all (2g, voice) but i have reseted to default even deleted it's the same result.
I found some errors in radio log that can be helpful (hopefully):

I'm attaching the whole log that i captured with adb in txt, during the capture i have put airplane mode on and then off.
Thank you

Damn, I really hope someone has a solution to this issues. my Desire has been giving me the same error for months now since I moved into my basement apartment (which understandably has terrible reception). That's with multiple ROMs (LeeDroid and now Oxygen 2.0), radios and a new HBOOT.
Sometimes the phone will go weeks without an issue but then suddenly it will be hopeless for a week or more. Only a reboot will allow me to reconnect to the mobile network and that only for an hour or two.
BTW this is all on the Australian 3 network but gave the same error on a different SIM card (on a different network) just as the OP experienced. Wifi, GPS, bluetooth etc all work without issues as well.

Had this error together with a few other ones (sd-card couldn't be mounted, usb wasn't working anymore). This fixed these problems. So give it a try. Or try this one instead.

I found this on another forum:
"Try typing *#*#4636#*#* into your keypad and it brings you to a hidden menu. Click on "Phone Information" and it will show you all kinds of information including the current network, network type, signal strength, current IP address (if you have one) and even allow you to run a ping test. If you scroll down you should be able to change some settings such as the preffered network type, if you hit the menu button you will get even more options such as "select radio band" make sure it is set to "auto" or the the correct setting for your location."
You should give it a try.

I thought that was the standard service for 3/Vodafone in Australia

I also have this problem. Thank you @nagypapi for that menu, that could have something to do with it. I checked it and "Preferred network type" is set to "WCDMA preferred" and I am using a GSM Desire. It won't let me change it! Also tried the "Select radio band" option from the menu but would not allow me to change any settings.
EDIT: I may be being special but my Desire HD is also set to WCDMA preferred (also a GSM), I guess I'm misunderstanding this setting. Anyone care to enlighten?

I apologize to all that tried to help me that i have not replied to this issue.
There was nothing with my Desire neither with rom nor with radio but it was IMEI locked by a provider. Apparently i bought a phone from a fraudulent person which the provider found out after few months that no one was paying for the phone and locked it. Now it has been 3-4 months that my phone is still not working, i contacted the provider, filed a police report and still nothing. The provider is simply refusing to unlock it.
I'm using it now as iPodroid
Anyway thanks to all for support.

[Q] GPRS connection but no GSM

Hey guys,
My phone stopped working about a week or so ago and I tried everything to fix it, nothing worked, stumbled upon this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045869
And decided to check if my IMEI was blocked (it was), I called Tesco Mobile, asked them to unblock it, which they did but I cannot make any texts or calls. I have tried:
-Reflashing radio
-Reflashing ROM
-Factory Reset
-Leaving battery out overnight, putting it in the next day
-Tried SIM in other phones - it works in other phones
-Reinstalled stock Sense ROM
The strange thing is, I can use the internet but cannot make texts/calls. Advanced info via *#*#4636#*#* shows:
IMEI: same as on phone
Phone Number: correct number listed
Current Network: Unknown
Singal Strength: 0
Location: LAC = unknown CID = unknown
Neighbouring CID = unknown
Roaming = Not roaming
GSM service: Disconnected
GPRS service: Connected <<< WHY IS THIS CONNECTED AND GSM ISN'T?!
Network type: unknown
Message waiting: false
Call redirect: false
Radio resets: 0
Data attempts: 0
Data successes: 0
If I try to change the network to anything other than GSM only then it just reverts back to GSM only. The SIM works in any other phone, my phone IS unlocked, was working perfectly prior to being IMEI blocked, so what appears to be the issue? I called up Tesco to confirm the bar is removed and they said it is, so, what gives?
EDIT: I can happily browse the internet while out and about - no wifi, definitely GPRS as I use it while I am away from my home wifi/any wifi I connect to. I am confused as to why I can use GPRS but cannot use GSM...
maybe bad sim?

Can't register on network error

Hello, using OpenSEMC (4.2.2) firmware, and it's seems i cannot register on network if i go to settings - mobile network. It's show's available networks, but i can't register. It's show's message that registering on network, but after some time it throws message that cannot register, try again later...
Tryed two sims card's - Omitel and Bite (These two are lithuania networks). Same problem. On CM9 everythink works fine. I think it's a ROM based problem, not my providers. Is there any way get more detailed error message, so it would be more clear where to search problem, because this message doesn't say any specific regarding my problem... (Maybe debuging would help?)
NetworkQueryService seems working, but problem exist, even if i restart phone, sometime's it select my network and full bars come's up (problem described above still exist, no matter what), but sometime's it's not, and i have restart phone several times...
Any help ?

Error while searching networks

After first rooting my Samsung S4 mini GT-I9195 and installing first the CM 11 found here
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=serranoltexx
and then trying again with carbons ROnm here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642488
I loads and boots fine without error however I have no mobile signal
If I search for networks in settings it simply gives a message of 'error while searching for networks'
Is there anything I can do?
I really need a stock rom to revert too as I did not take a backup being a brand new phone
I am not certain of the phones country of origin.

Make sure you have activated the sim cards, they are deactivated by default.
Thank you but I haven't changed sim cards and it was working before I flashed to the new rom.
It also wouldn't likely cause the error im seeing.
I suspect its a permission issue because i notice when I try to update the APN it does not save.
eitherway I really need a stock ROM to get my phone back working
can anyone point me in the right direction>?
sometimes after having a tinker about it prompts me on startup "new sim card added" restart to activate.
But after restarting i just get the exact same message = again I suspect a permissions issue.

A520F restarts if I select 3g/4g

First I'm on official build. Not rooted and my phone is a520f/ds uae.
Yesterday I woke up to see my phone has no signal on both sims(different carriers)so I unlock the phone and it rebooted into a boot loop until I took simcards out.
Now I only can have 2g on both sims to function normally or either it reboots or says emergency calls only.
I flashed it with latest builds a couple of times and no lock.
Please help me.
HELLO?
Undo any debloating if any.
Install the stock rom of the firmware CSC relevant to the SIM and enter the stock recovery.
Contact your mobile network operator.
Create a backup and wipe data...
I do not recommend anything efs/pit, a backup is OK.
There are at least 3 tools to identify what's wrong with the cellular, while it's on the "emergency calls only"
Logcat, specifically logcat -b radio, can be used without root (usually adb), look for errors, if it can't be filtered by the radio log, search for "RIL" in the entire logcat.
*#0011#, look for mcc (mobile country code) and mnc (mobile network code), or plmn (both), for example mcc 310 (US) mnc 260 (T-Mobile). It should match the SIM, or try a manual network selection in the settings. Though this shouldn't cause a restart, RSSI is the signal strength of the frequency, RSRP/RSCP is the approximate signal strength of the cell, RSRQ,SINR,ECIO,rxqual are signal quality.
*#9900# (it is not 9090!) > run CP based log > copy to sdcard. It's in /sdcard/log/err, (internal storage)/log/err, /data/media/0/log/err, /storage/emulated/0/log/err.
LitmusLog: Scroll down to "### SIM1 Reject Information ###", a history of the error codes are below. For example, Cause:1. The plmn is basically backwards.
Protocol: Look for "attachreject" "t___ out of sync" "rlf unrecoverable", etc.
Cp_members: look for anything other than reject cause=0x0, and any error. Below the plmn, which can be seen with hex to ascii.
Then search for the 'error', or send it to your mobile network operator.

General Modem always crashing, losing voice/data

Modem always crashes especially when outside. As long as I am at home on wifi, it seems to work, it crashes but not a lot (sometimes even during the night). But going outside and the phone switching to cell/wifi/cell/wifi/etc make it crashes rapidly.
Easy to see because I am losing voice/data. Phone does not reboot.
My F3 is stock, stock rom, never been unlocked or anything. It did this last year already. I am using the latest MIUI 14.0.4.0(TKHMIXM). I'm in Canada with PublicMobile.
error is
modem subsystem failure reason: ssr:MP:rflte_dm_rx.c:8779:rflte_dm_rxagc_config_update_switchpoints_and_lna_offsets_in_d
I have a lot of ramdump, for instance right now I have

Any way to send ramdump to xiaomi?
Problem seems to be

Would disabling specific bands fix this? Is so, what ones?
In another thread it seems someone tried it and it changes nothing :-/
Dial *#*#663368378#*#* to access modem test tools suite, hopefully something there can tell you more about what is going wrong
It seems I cannot access "MODEM test tools" (aka Rueban / MTB) app on official ROMs without authorized Mi Account according to some search. It only gives me a black screen.
Well that's mildly frustrating. Sometimes theres modem debug options in city (dial *#*#6484#*#*) tucked away in the 3 dot overflow menu in the top right...
Unfortunately there's no such option here :-(
I have a lot of ramdump about modem crash, always the same error. I tried to email poco support but gmail reports back that the server refused connection or something...
