I owned the MT4G and had problems with it. I had a total of five MT4Gs (all exchanges) because they had creaking buttons issues. Instead of doing an exchange for a sixth one I told TMO customer service to give me the G2, so that is currently in transit and should be expecting it in a couple days. If the MT4G had capacitive buttons and not those physical ones, I would be a happy camper. Those buttons suck so bad, because you have cheap plastic buttons rubbing against a plastic bezel that causes them to produce this creaking sound. A couple of the phones I had exhibited loud & creaking sounds, and it was enough to drive me nuts. So, the MT4G is a great phone that's fast and gorgeous, but those buttons just ruined the overall experience.
The G2 is competent to compete with the MT4G. I personally think having the keyboard and the option of wanting to use it or not is better than not having it and won't be able to use it when you want to because you don't have it.
Plus, the G2 just looks so much better than the MT4G.
And its the difference between steel and plastic. I hope I never have to purchase a plastic phone.
vision
I recommended the MT4G to my sister because she said she wanted video chat. She loves her phone. I am a keyboard guy, became frustrated with my HD2 because of the lack of a keyboard. So I got the vision and I also love my phone. Your call.
I don't know about the G2, but I've got the MT4G recently and really like it. I don't have problems wiith it. I mean other than unwanted pre-installed apps that I am unable to remove from the phone on this 2.3.4. I could do it on the 2.2.1. I got two of em for 18 dollars each. If I have problems I'll look asking for the G2. Is it 4G??
The devs just S-OFF'd the MT4Gs today, so it's only a matter of time before CM-based ROMs show up there. Look into that.
G2. Mt4g is below the g2.

MT4G is really ugly compared to G2. also the modified sense on the MT4G dosent look as good as sense 3.0 on evo 3D or sensation. if the components on the MT4G were in a sleeker device, like similar to G2, then i would get it.
MT4G would be an awesome phone if it didn't have so many hardware problems.
I originally bought a MT4G in November and had it replaced 5 times before customer service offered me the G2 as replacement and I couldn't be happier with the G2.
MT4G had SO many problems. Firstly I constantly got the "bad" screen and when I got the good one pixels burnt out. Overall I had two phone where pixels burnt out, two phones with the bad screen which I sent back and one with faulty memory which made the phone stuck in a permanent boot loop from day 1.
Honestly, I think the G2 looks better and the performance between the two is virtually identical. G2 is much snappier in day to day use. Espresso sense on the MT4G was absolute garbage which slowed the whole thing down.
G2 wins by a long shot.

Now I'm having second thoughts for some reason.. I currently have MyTouch 3G and dreading for a a new phone soon. Should I get the G2 now or just hold on a bit longer and get something better? please guys.. enlighten me with your thoughts and comments! thanks.
Also, If I do go forward in getting a G2.. should I upgrade through store or through phone?
Well i just switched from a mt3g to a g2....Once you have these phones side by side..The my touch feels like a toy!
Well. I came from a vibrant,it was awesome at first and then the bugs came out and I hated it,sold it and some cool guy sold me the g2 and this phone is the first and best keyboard phone I've ever had.I have compared it to my girls mytouch slide, and I had a mytouch 3g when it came out,not a big fan of those lag loving phones.its my 2 cents

Get the G2!!
It's currently the most powerful android phone out there, at least in my opinion.
There's nothing really better with T-Mobile, the Nexus S is more of Samsung's cheap plastic toys, Now with Google's full support! - If your in to that...
You should just get the g2. There's always going to be a better phone coming down the pipes. Its how the phone market works.

So I'm on my second g2 I love the phone but the hinge killing me I haven't even been a customer for a week and I already asked for a second replacement phone so should I try the mytouch or stick with the g2 I like development also and if there's none on the mytouch 4g then I might aswell stay

I want to try tye 4g as well. I tried the hd2 and I love thesceeen because it was so clear and big. Hd2 is ok and the keyboard isn't as what I expected. I don't use it as much. I use the on screen keyboard more. Thinking of switching back to my iphone ha

The MT4G is a POS and I've had PLENTY of experience with it. Here's what I said in another similar thread...
All I can tell you is that I went through five MyTouch4Gs to realize that there are numerous issues with them. I encountered creaking/squeaking buttons and a washed-out display, others have experienced cracked bezels, dust under the display, FFC not centered and more. I really, really wanted to enjoy that phone, but after going through five of them I gave up on it, and went with the G2. Best decision I've made on a phone. Never did I think I would need or use the physical keyboard, but now that I've had it for a few weeks I now use it all the time. It's a wonderful keyboard, and I have no regrets going from the MT4G to the G2.
My advice to you would be to do some homework in the MT4G sections of XDA, to see what others have to say about it. Lots of problems for many, not all, and the one other thing that sucked about that phone is the lack of ROM development. It finally started picking up steam when I got my G2, but it's still nothing compared to the ROM development being done on a daily basis for the G2.
My wife has a MyTouch 4G.
The Sense is really aggravating, even after I've installed ADW and rooted so I could remove as much of the bloatware as I could it's still bloated an heavy. If it were my phone I would be running a CM nightly on it but I don't want to run non-stable code on my wifes phone. She will be getting CM7 once it's final and stable.
The physical buttons work well enough.
It's a bit faster than G2 but not enough to make a difference in day to day use.
thanks im going to keep it
Use evils one stop shop mt4g rom .....and if u hate the hinge just dont use it lol?

I am on my second replacement device from Tmo for my G2, and it is also messed up.
Come to find that my phones have been bricking due to an aftermarket battery, hence the exchanges. I have tossed that battery and use my original shipping battery. the first replacement the screen flickered a lot when the screen faded before turning off, the hinge was better than my new one prior, but still a tad off. this one i just got has a missing pixel, and the hinge seems a tad misaligned as well, more than the other one...it taps a bit when typing on the screen instead of hardware keyboard, which my original new one did soon after purchase but not as bad as the original one.
anyone else having issues with refurbs like this? what have you done with tmo to get the situation rectified?
That's why I don't bother sending my phones in. They give you someone elses old defect

i agree, but i cant afford 500 bucks for a new device right now.
tmo offered me a sidekick 4g with android, a mt4g black, or a HD7 as a replacement if i didnt want another G2 refurb. for ****s and giggles i asked about the G2x they were out of stock. I really need the hardware keyboard

I agree, but its irritating to have to keep doing it. Just remember you have to keep doing it within the first 30 days of the exchange so you don't have to pay for express or any shipping again. Eventually ill end up getting a better alternative as tmo will have to realize the cost of these exchanges would exceed the costs of a brand new phone.

So here's my story. I have the fascinate now, got it when it came out & have another year to go to upgrade. The froyo update has created pretty significant missed call issues that vzw is addressing by offering a switch to the DInc2 or the X2. My wife has the Dinc1 & I had the eris before so I'm familiar with sense ui. How does this phone compare to them or to the X2? I'm looking for input before I make my choice.

I cannot speak for the DX2, but I for one love my DInc2. It's the perfect size, and has the perfect feel for the hand. The processor is lightning quick; keep in mind that this is the next generation Snapdragon. Even though it's not Dual Core, it's still really fast!
You get a great camera, still a good screen, and a front facing camera which you do not have on the DX2. The DX2 has a qHD display, but from what I've heard, and this is hearsay and opinion, it's not that great. I don't like Blur, and I came from a Stock Android OG Droid, so Sense was the better choice for me.
Battery life isn't the best I've seen, but it's also not the worst. Depends on usage, but I can get through most of the day with it. Gingerbread helps here, and also makes the phone even faster than it was with Froyo. I would recommend the DInc2. Good luck!
i came from the fascinate, as did my wife, and i can tell you we're absolutely happy with the dinc2. i'm on CM7 nightly, she's running gingersense (she doesn't know that, she thinks she's full stock. shhhh.) it's so much better than the fascinate in every way.
if you liked the fascinate's screen, then the DX2 won't be good enough. the incredible 2's screen is pretty comparable.
Bro as much as I loved my fascinate, I had the same issues with missed calls. Took 3 replacements to finally get offered something else. Dinc2 or the x2. I'm not a fan of the x's so I chose the dinc 2. This phone literally ****s on the fassy. I have not experienced any bugs. Now that it's rootable it's even more beast. The screen isn't super amoled . But, it looks great. The difference in screens really seems to be black. It looked better on the fassy but every other color looks better on dinc 2
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
I'm in the same boat as everyone here....I had the fassy and couldn't handle the missed calls so when I called it was this or the droid x (not x2) for free or I could upgrade early and sign a new 2yr contact. which I thought about cuz I too have a yr left on my current contact. (really thought I wanted the droid charge) I have never been happier that I picked the inc 2.
When I first started looking into the support for this phone I thought I made a mistake as it seemed like there was none and as you know the fascinate community was full of ppl and devs. But now that we have root this is by far the best phone out (imo) and has plenty of amazing devs who have really brought out its potentially.

Wish I could've seen that where I live but every dinc2 I saw at the vzw stores had the same -dbm (or close) as my fascinate showing only 2 bars. + 1 to your query.
I'm also very curious about the next great HTC Android QWERTY-slider. Actually, the gadget wires have been strangely bereft of quality QWERTY-slider handsets in general. Looking-through the news about QWERTY-sliders, all I get are bits and pieces about the different carrier-specific variants of the Desire Z.
Both the G2 and Desire Z are about a year old at this point and the only viable replacement for me seems to be the Droid 3/Milestone 3. I've seen a Samsung QWERTY-slider handset headed to Verizon but, truthfully, it's ugly. There's also supposed to be a full-sized Sony Ericsson Xperia QWERTY-slider out soon but like the Verizon Samsung, it's plastic-y garbage. I'd rather avoid either handset if I can.
I think part of the reason is that with the larger screens being shipped these days, the suits that run the handset makers probably don't see a need for a QWERTY-slider -- it's easier to type on a virtual keyboard from a larger slate. From personal experience, I have to agree -- both my HTC Sensation and Galaxy SII are pretty easy to type on. Of course, I may just be a lousy touch-typist but I am still much faster on my Desire Z's qwerty keyboard. That's the reason why, even though I have (arguably) the Top 2 Android dual-core phones, I still use my Desire Z as my "main" phone.
Of course, from a practical perspective, I wonder if there's even still that much demand for an Android QWERTY-slider. Most business users, after all, still tend to gravitate towards Blackberries and the bland (not to mention dated) Blackberry OS UI.
It's reprehensible, really; having owned 2 Blackberries myself (for business reasons), I have got to say that I hate the damned things. That said, given Blackberry's dominance (perceived or otherwise) in the QWERTY field, perhaps HTC just doesn't see the urgency.
I really hope we see something soon...

I agree with this point as to why there aren't more qwerty slide out or on the horizon. The larger screen sizes coupled with better virtual keyboards with prediction are making the desire for them much greater than a hardware keyboard as well as not having the added bulk that the keyboard adds. Also, I think the manufacturers would rather not have to deal with making a qwerty phone because it could significantly reduce the amount of engineering involved in making one. Even though I love my G2, I think my next phone won't have a keyboard.

The Droid 4 (will be Milestone 4 this side of the pond) is utter sex. I want it.
The only problem is that, like all Moto phones, it will be locked down harder than Guantanamo Bay, preventing any kernel-level hacking, and thus the dev scene for it will pretty much be still-born.
Droid 1 didnt suck idk what your talking about the keyboard could of being better but specs was the best better than iphone 3gs in 2009. Droid 2 wasnt that great and droid 3 was good it have 5 keyboard row and the physical keyboard is good until they **** up with 4g lte radio instead they add 3g radio. Due to Verizon permission is not Motorola fault they listen to what Verizon demand as is Verizon paying for it.

Are you referring to the aesthetics? Because mechanically, the unit is VERY sound. The real buttons on the front are **MUCH** nicer than stupid digitizer-fake-buttons since they actually respond when you press them, and not randomly when you're trying to "scroll up" with the trackpad.

Certainly a matter of personal taste. But to me, all the Droid slider phones have looked good on paper, but feel cheap once hands-on. Not terrible, but not up to par with HTC's typical build quality. The Moto Droid phones just feel plasticky, and the keyboard keeps getting a bit better, but still not great.
Moto seems to be trying to kick things up a notch as far as physical quality with the Droid RAZR, and carrying some of those design features to the Droid 4. So I'd like to see what it feels like hands-on.

You really should check on tmonews.com from time to time. These threads that you posted in are just wishlists lol
Rather than creating a new thread.. I am looking for the same thing; any news since back when this post was created on a g3??
I am thinking about getting a new phone, and looking for a sweet qwerty android- I used to have the G1 and it was real nice at the time. I ve thought about the g2 but its a bit outdated and im a bit tempted to just go with the mytouch slide 4g but ive heard its keyboard aint as fantastic as the g2...
Please everyone stop talking about the next g2!!!! we're full of threads with opinions on next qwerty phone, next g2, next htc qwerty etc etc... can we just keep one? especially because there's no evidence of a new qwerty phone from htc...
