[Q] Difference between "Mail" and "Google Mail" - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i got a new Desire HD and I just got a question:
There is an app called "Mail" (with the Sense-Interface) and
one called "Google Mail". I would like to use the "Mail" one
because it looks better but my Google Mail App always
notices me when I get a new mail. Is this also
possible for the Mail application?
Or where is actually the difference?
Thanks

If you go into GMail and press menu and go into the settings, you can turn off the notifications for gmail, if you then go into the settings for Mail, you can activate the notifications, hope it helps

Thank you, that did it for me.

How to send all contacts from SIM to GOOGLE?

And what's the benefit of doing that?
1 more question, how on earth to enable pics on Contact Widget in Launcher PRO plus? I tried SYNCMYPIX or something and all facebook was something about read only ????
Thank you.
If you add them to Google they are saved on the cloud and updated wirelessly, lose your phone, at least you don't lose all your numbers. If you want it to link to Facebook they have to be synced to Google.

"How to send all contacts from SIM to GOOGLE?"
Go to people app, hit menu, then select import/export, select from sim, select google, you will be shown the sim contacts, select the ones you want or hit menu and select all, hit done and you're done.

[Q] How to simply check the email?

Hello, I'm looking for the simplest way to check the email on my Desire.
I don't like autosync: if I have time to check the email I'll open the app by myself and I don't feel the need to be notified right now (also, I save the battery )
On the iPhone I used to simply tap on "Mail", then I could quit it and turn off the screen and wait for a notification (vibrate or sound) if the connection was slow.
On the Desire I have to open Mail (or Gmail), push the 'menu' button, tap 'refresh' and wait without exiting the application because I couldn't find a way to set a notification if I check email manually.
Is there some kind of widget/app that allows me to tap on it, turn the screen off and wait for a vibration if there is a new one?
I tried k-9, no luck.
Thank you!
The HTC mail app auto syncs when opened?
you can just add a bookmark of your mail to homescreen. this is what i do instead of facebook app. and there is also an option to refresh mail when you open app.

Click to collapse
Yes it does, Just use the htc mail widget then configure it to never auto sync!
It does auto refresh when you open it, but most of the time I find it in background and that doesn't count as a new open...
Also, it doesn't vibrate on new messages if checked manually and I have a "bug" with gmail: it saves every sent message in the IMAP/sent folder and I see it twice on gmail on the desktop. Does someone know how to solve it?
Will try the widget for the next few days as suggested.
Thanks

DZ not showing "new email notification" in taskbar

hi there,
for a while, i was using the htc mail app (not gmail) and everything worked fine with the email notifications in the taskbar on my desire z...
until i decided to check out the gmail app (for labels aso). so i deleted my account settings in the htc mail app and entered all in the gmail app. however, i wasn't happy with the gmail app (missing to many features) and went back to the htc mail app, reversing the account stuff (for the my main mail account meaning only to un-tick the mail-sync).
now, i don't get notifications on the taskbar, if a new mail arrives. i checked the preferences and turned everything on, that looked like a notification setting... what am i missing?? anybody else with a similar issue?
thanks and cheers,
abprie
*bump*
no one with that sort of problem?
just to close that one: I deleted all account settings from the google mail app and htc mail app, deleted all application data (in application settings) for those two apps, re-entered my account settings in htc mail and now it works again... cant figure out, what was wrong before...

How can i change my txt ring

This also works on ur gmail, Hotmail, google chat, facebook chat, calendar. make sure inside the app, setting and go to notification setting choose ur ringtone. The only one I cannot change is my voice mail alert...it uses the default ringtone.

A better mail app?

I just bought a One X to replace my iPhone 4, mostly happy about it, except the mail app is a bit frustrating
Firstly, iPhone almost always loads the full email instantly, and the ICS app only loads the text version and I have to press a button to load images and that could take an extra few seconds per email
Second, there is no next/previous button? I have to press the back button and select another mail to open it...
Lastly, whenever I receive a new email, iPhone notifies me instantly and I'm a slide of a bar away from viewing the full email, with ICS the notification system doesn't even work for me, I have to refresh the mail app in order to see the new email.
Is there any way to fix this?
I'm using Hotmail
Use the hotmail app from Microsoft. Much better imo. Has push notifications and pinch to zoom.

I am using HTC Mail to work with Gmail. Unless I select a frequent receiving interval, the time getting the new incoming email seem a bit later than what I have used in Windows Phone and iPhone. The best mail client is iPhone that it almost get the email after couple of minutes after sender dispatching the email.
K9 mail https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mc2NrLms5Il0.
Or make an active sync account in the default mail app and set it to push.
My recommendation would be to install "Touch down for smart phones". It is the best mail app that i have found for my hotmail account and also does exchange.

Just rooted and installed a custom Rom. It appears my Vodafone handset had a lot of the email settings disabled. I can now have push mail and html messages in stock app.
