Does any one know of a way to get the Evo style keyboard on my htc incredible? I mainly want it for the cursor buttons. I hate having to try and tap the right spot to get the cursor where i need it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got it on Myn's Warm Two Point Two RLS4. I'd highly recommend it. I think they have an apk posted on the thread to just get the keyboard if you don't want to switch ROMs. Not sure if it'll work with other ROMs, so nandroid first just incase.

Thanks for the info Blah12543 you were a great help.
I downloaded and installed the {gingerbread keyboard }and nothing seemed to happen so then I downloaded the {Official EVO HTC_IME (Unthemed) (With arrows)} and installed that and got the keyboard to appear. However the arrow buttons do not function (*when horizontal) untill you switch to the numbers and symbols screen (12#). Once you do that they work like a charm even when switched back to the letters (ABC). When using a app eg. internet or messaging, you have to switch to the numbers screen one time and then it works fine untill you close the app.Even if you minimize the keyboard it still works the next time you bring it up as long as you havent exited the app in question. All other keys work fine like they always did.
Does anybody know how to fix this? I guess it's not that big of a deal it's still better than what I had, but i'm just the type of person who likes things to work perfectly.
EDIT: *I just noticed if phone is vertical works fine just as it is ment to. The above only happens when the phone is horizontal.
SOLVED: Ok I figured out that it has to do with the sugestions. When phone is horizontal it pops up with the green sugestions eg. type (goo) and it sugests below (google.com). The navigation buttons instead of moving the currsor forward and back instead move back and forth between the sugestions. The reason the buttons work when you hit the number screen (12#) is that doing so makes the sugestions temporarley dissappear. When the phone is vertical the sugestions are in a different type of drop down menu that does not affect the navigation buttons. By the way I have sugestions, spell correct, etc. turned off but it still suggests words contacts and web addresses, but thats another problem all together.
So I called up a friend with a Sprint EVO 4g and asked him if his stock phones keyboard worked in this way. Much to my surpprise it does. I find this to be a fault of the original EVO rom. I think HTC coulld have came up with an easy solution such as being able to press the up arrow to switch to the line of text so you can scroll forward or backward, or have it situated on the text and if you want to scroll sugestions hit the down arrow then left or right.
Anyways thanks to Blah12543 for the info on where to get the files, it is much appreciated.
So if you want the EVO style keboard with the navigation arrows on your incredible running Virtuous Rom v3.2 (May work on other roms or phones but not tested.) here are the steps.
1. Download the (GingerBread 2.3 Default Keyboard) and the (Official EVO HTC_IME (Unthemed) (With arrows)), found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471. You can download these files on your pc and push them to your sdcard with adb (search for instructions on how to push files with adb), copy them to your sdcard with a usb dongle, or do it the easy way and download them strait from your phone.
2. Once you have both files on your sdcard reboot in to recovery and flash (Ginger bread 2.3 default keyboard). Once it is finished reboot.
3. Now once agin reboot into recovery and flash Official HTC-IME (unthemed)(with arrows). Once it has finished reboot and that is it. You should now have the EVO style keyboard with the navigation buttons.
Sorry I haven't checked back in a while, but you're very much welcome!

Yes, just wipe and flash like you did fresh. Then just start customizing to you're liking.
B) Google maps screen shuts off while navigating. Can you keep it from doing it? For example, I used navigation this morning on my way to work, but the display would shut off without any input after a while...
I've only used while charging in my car and it does not shut off. Don't know if there's a way to so that.

Mmm I think I get a little higher I'm not on a 4G area myself bit I can test and let you know my speeds.

Not really

A- Of course just wipe and flash like you did fresh.
B- Don't know I use it with my charger.
C- I'll check my speeds and ill let you know. I'm on a non 4g area but I think I get better than that.
D- Not really.
E- Have not tried it but then again is all about supporting our developers
F- of course I just swyped this, search the forums there is an apk that you just install using something like Es File Explorer. Forgot exactly where the threat is.
Hope this helps.

I know there's a way, but I also know that if you use Googel Navigation it wakes up when you approach a turn, and it wakes and gives you a heads up in plenty of time to make the turn

Not great, but not defective or anything. I would say thats at the bottom of the acceptable scale. I get anywhere from 500kb/s to 2mb/s. Also 3G speeds are very unpredictable. Doing one test is pretty much a waste of time. Do like 10 at a time at different times of day in different locations.
D) Does anyone else find the power and volume buttons to be somewhat hard to press?
Not me

The same thing that keeps people from using a file explorer to navigate to the .apk they just downloaded and making a copy then refunding and reinstalling it. It's immoral and if someone makes a great app that you want then they deserve a few dollars for it. Plus stealing apps makes it a pain to update them.
F) Can I get Swype?
If you aren't in the beta then I don't know. Swype works on the evo just fine, I use it daily.
Wouldn't deodexed be better for removing stock apps or doesn't it matter?

If all he's gonna do is remove apps then the only difference will be that he'll have to remove 2 files instead of one. Not all the apps in the stock rom are odexed but the ones that do will obviously have a .odex file to accompany the .apk
The reason I wanted odexed instead of deodexed is some of the apps on the deodexed ROM do not work.
I'm also getting around 2mbps on Speedteset compared to the 500kbps I was getting... That's good. Upload speeds are really bad at 200kbps, guessing that's normal.

Ah, didn't know that.
I am a CM6'er
On the Power button issue.....I'm on my 2nd Evo....The first one, the power button stuck up nicely and was easy to press and activate. My new one, the spring-load backing the button seems to be a bit mushier, and the button sits a lot lower and closer to flush with the housing....So, yes, I find the power button to be a pain now. I wonder if your EVO is the same as my new one...

I wasn't aware of this.. which ones?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743781
That seems to be the rooted, deodexed 2.2 final and it says:
Known Issues:
Sprint TV Widget is not working
TI Backup installs but won't run, keeps asking for SU perms
Facebook will not update from 1.3 to 1.3.1
Possible bug: camcorder may stop working after period of time. This has been reported in 3 other deodexed Froyo custom ROMs.
Those issues are not because that rom is deodexed

Oh, where is the stock 2.2 deodexed/rooted ROM without those issues? Or are those issues from stock and just carried over?
I tried upgrading to Fresh Rom 3.1.0.1 but I'm took hooked on the Droid-X keyboard, I had to go back to Eclair Fresh Rom.
I tried CM6 out, bad ass rom btw but I'm so used to Sense, I wanted to stay on Fresh.
Now the Droid-X keyboard will not work on ForYo I heard but what does CM6 have? Sure looks like the Droid-X to me, re-skinned black. Matter of fact I've seen the Droid-X keyboard re-skinned black so I know it was done.
I snagged CM6, ripped it's keyboard apk and tried to install it on Fresh, which Fresh FroYo, which is told me I would be replacing my existing keyboard, then it told me it couldn't install.
Is there a way to remove the factory keyboard with 2.2 and push that one in and have it work or could you devs make it work?
If I'm on the wrong track here, let me know but the one IN CM6 sure looks like the Droid-X running on 2.2 to me.
Is the CM6 keyboard the native 2.2 keyboard?
On a related note, can someone post the .apk for the native 2.2 keyboard?
CM6 is using the stock froyo keyboard with the hidden number panel that you slide up to open. At least RC1 was, and I doubt the nightly would be any different. Correct me if I'm wrong please.
I believe the keyboard in CM6 is the stock Froyo 2.2 keyboard. I'm not sure if you removed the HTC one if it would default to that one since it's not already available when you try to chose a different input method.

I could be totally wrong, but doesnt RM ReMove stuff? Delete it? Anyway, I took the keyboard from CM6, pushed it to system/app, reset, and it now shows up in input method, but force closes when selected. Must be relying on a lib file or something.
I have Netarchy's ROM installed, and i too fell in love with the CM6 keyboard. So i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744373 and now i have the CM6 Keyboard on my ROM. Works Flawless. No FC r anything.

You are AWESOME. Worked like a charm. Thanks a lot!
So then the CM6 keyboard, which is stock ForYo 2.2 keyboard, is the same keyboard the Droid-X was using on 2.1 Eclair?
I'm looking at both the one released as the Droid-X keyboard (Eclair), the white one and the one from CM6 which is black, they look the SAME to me other then color. Both are multi-touch etc too.
I'll have to check out that thread. Just leaving work so I'll check when I get home.

The Droid X keyboard is a customized version of the stock Android 2.1 keyboard.
The CM6 keyboard IS the stock Android 2.2 keyboard.
The 2.2 keyboard has the feature that lets you drag up to get the number row, this isn't CM6 specific. I don't remember the CM6 keyboard supporting multi-touch, I think I even tried.
Running the SkyRaider 2.2 w/vanilla theme, I downloaded the Swype Incredible .apk and installed it, set it up, and ran the tutorial. I noticed in the tutorial itself when I was tracing around the keyboard that when I was done tracing no words popped up on the bar. The only time letters would go up there is if i was using it as a regular keyboard (pecking at it, if you will). I really don't have a clue as to why it isn't working as I know many others are using it on the device. Also, I don't think that it has anything to do with the ROM I'm using because I had the same exact problem using it on 2.1 stock and unrooted. Is there a certain file that everyone else is using? I got the file link from this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_bc3_8slDs
If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Even a shove in the right direction would be great.
OK, well I installed one that IS working. Now they just have to tackle the mic button
there's a swype with mic available for our phone in the apps and themes section. you should check it out. it's sweeeeet.
I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times before. Is there a way so that when my phone rings I can hit the hardware button aka the trackpad button and either answer or end a call?
Getting a call when I'm walking with gloves on isn't fun and using noses and lounges on the screen looks slightly odd.

It's built into cm7, if you're willing to run the nightly builds.
It's under Settings> Call Settings> Trackball Answer / Trackball Hangup
Many thanks. The late reply is just me working out how to root etc. But it now works beautifully.

for others searching for a fix you can download
Tedd's Droid Tools off the market. It works on the G2 (I assume the desire Z as well)
It allows you to set the answer button to the trackball, camera button, and others.
This should work on various roms, I've personally tested it on Virtuous v0.9.0
Works on Desire Z whit original rom, but looks like the app says it will not work on gingerbread, and Dz is getting the update in this month, and i want the update, so what do i do, root and start using CM... not sure about rooting, never done that, and looks complicated.
well theres two ways you could go with this,
1. I've modified Ted's Droid Tools for one of my roms to add gingerbread support. It doesn't perform a miracle that the original dev couldn't think of, it just locks the touch screen preventing accidental answering and uses the trackball to unlock it.
NOTE: you still have to swipe to unlock AFTER hitting the trackball.
2. Rooting your phone. Its not terribly hard and theres TONS of tutorials on xda as well as helpful people to walk you through it. The more Recent Cyanogenmod releases are based on Gingerbread so it would have to be an older version but is still doable if you would like to stay in Froyo.
I'm at work right now but if you would like me to post my custom Tedds Droid Tools mod I can once I get home. Let me know
Hope this helps
for those who wanted it
Tedd's Droid Tools (82_Z28 V1.2 Modified for G2 Sense UI & Gingerbread)
(This stops the phone from unlocking on its own in your pocket during calls)
Settings are as followed:
-CHECK: All Phone Tools (On/Off)
-CHECK: Call Answer Tools (On/Off)
-CHECK: Answer With Trackball/D-Pad Press
-UNCHECK: everything else....
feel free to tweak as you like, I personally like this for Trackball=Unlock; Then Swipe to answer or ignore like usual
Here is my issue. I have the Gingerbread Evo Deck ROM 1.0 and I want to use HTC's stock 2.3.3 keyboard. I downloaded a deodexed stock 4.54.651.1 Evo ROM, unzipped it and pulled the HTC_IME.apk. However, I cannot get it to work on the Deck ROM. I tried installing just as an app, no dice. I then unzipped the Deck ROM, replaced the LatinIME.apk with the HTC_IME.apk, rezipped and reflashed. As soon as it loaded, I kept getting force close errors talking about touch input. Is there something else I need to install, or will it just not work? I also considered whether or not I had to rename the HTC_IME to LatinIME, but haven't tried it yet.
I have searched the forum, YouTube, Google, etc.; so if this has been answered, I apologize. I just couldn't find anything directly related to my situation.
I admit I am new to this, but I can follow directions very well. I have so much I want to learn. This place is a gold mine.
Hey,
Im not to knowledgeable with android programming but I think the issue could be somewhere between the ASOP rom and using the keyboard from the sense. Their still based off the same things but are remarkably different in aspects so I wonder if the issue is somewhere in there. There is a lot of different apps in the market for keyboards though so im sure if you could find a sense stock keyboard in there! I hope it helps!
Good luck,
Stevo
If u want HTC ime on aosp u will need to use the mod search Google for HTC ime mod kitchen and you can make your own custom HTC ime that's an installable apk
Edit: I am using it on decks 1.3 to type this message out

Thanks, I will give this a shot in a few. So, once I make the custom HTC_IME, I can just install the apk and it will work? I do not need to install any additional files, etc.?
I have tried a few of the market keyboard apps before, I am still partial to the stock HTC one, though. I love the text field navigation keys along the bottom and it has the hide keyboard button. I also type in Spanish and English, and by changing your language settings to Spanish then back to English, the microphone button becomes a English/Spanish toggle button. You can still long press it for voice commands, too. (pics included for reference).
The one thing the mod kitchen doesn't have is the arrow keys but there's a 3rd party keyboard called thumb keyboard 4 that has them and themes and it has several layouts and you can even customize the layout and sizes of the keys its pretty cool I snagged it from Amazons free app of the day a while back but definitely worth the money if u decided to purchase it
