Anyone know?
Maybe, I think the music folders shows up once you use that mass storage hack but its been advise that you shouldn't do that.
But then again, there's nothing wrong with zune. Easy and automatic syncing of pic/music/videos/movies/podcast. I've been using it since 1.0 and it pretty good, I will never go back to drag&drop. Don't have to go diving to folders for a certain file to drop, just open the software and drap and drop it, or let it sync automatically.
I wonder if Drop Box would work for music. I don't see why not, just you would have to pay because they only give you 2GB for free.
And video files? Im thinking of getting the focus, coming from Android.
What's with all these weird questions?
Zune is the music and video player for personal collections.
It also handles podcasts.
Dropbox won't be playing music for you. Since when was that a dropbox feature?
Do some research please. Search the forums as well as they have a wealth of knowledge.
Asking questions like this means you were too lazy to bother with research as this has been well known for a very, very long time.

This is a key problem with WP7 so the question will be asked until WP7 is fixed.
The current answer is, this can be done via a hack but is not guaranteed to work, and the resulting music is restricted to limited protocols: cannot be accessed as files by WP7 software and afaik cannot be organized by folders.

I assume I'm not the first one asking that, but I cannot find any topic about it. It's probably because, since my English isn't good enough, I don't know how to name what I'm looking for.
Actually, I'd like to be able to browse my musics the same way we can browse contacts, using the alphabet. Why that? Because when I listen to music, I listen to all my musics randomly, but sometimes, I'd like to be able to play a particular one, without changing the playlist. Indeed, if I go in the artist section, first, I may have to go down a lot to find the artist I'm looking for (so here, I'd like to be able to browse quickly too), and, besides, when I find the artist, and then the song, if I play it, there will be only this song in the playlist, then if I want to put all the songs in the playlist, I have to go back to "all songs" and put play, it's not nice, and when I'm driving, I cannot do all this, it's dangerous. Moreover, if I ask a friend to do it for me, he won't be used to doing this, to using a touch screen, most of the time, he will play the wrong song while he's trying to go down (for example if he wants to listen to "Viva la vida", he has to go to the end of the list, it's not an easy task if you're not used to it!).
I don't know if I explained my point good enough...
But I think that I'm not the only one with hundreds of songs in his phone, so if anyone know if there is a cab that can do that, or can create a cab to make my dream come true, thank you : )
I really hope I made myself clear lol!

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone else had 2 issues I've run across since using the Facebook app from Marketplace:
1) Sometime when posting comments, it doesnt send to post, anyone have this problem?
2) Does the Facebook app always have to be re-freshed to see whats been posted instead of it notifying you when something gets posted?
3) I know everyone has the photo album not displaying issue I do too, but when I go to HTC Album, I have a freaking list of folders with either pix or no pix, how to I make them not appear in the HTC album when I am picking albums to view?
Thanx
I had the same issues as 1 and 2 and gave up on the app. I use the mobile website for everything except uploading pics, in which case I use the application.
Kind of a pain until someone smarter than me comes up with a good app.
Sux, dont want to use the website, I know they have it working on the blackberry where its real time updates, you'd think they would have done that with this lite app, whats the point of refreshing manually.
the app is pretty worthless, i rarely use it. the manual refresh is horrible. It'll only download the latest (say 25) posts, and if there are 35 new posts on your wall/feed and you refresh, it will only update 25, and when you scroll through them, it would go from the last of the latest 25 to the latest of when you previously refreshed so there would be a gap in your feed...
i use touch.facebook.com and lite.facebook.como via opera mobile and works out very well.
i no longer attempt to use it to post comments because what i found out is its posting on random old posts. it can cause you to say some things you really dont mean.
my other real issue is it will only load the first photo in an album and just sit there rather than opening the next. and of course you cant see who likes a post. hopefully microsoft will fix these little issues so it will be as complete as it is on an iphone or android.
TJoC,
Thanks for the laugh, Microsoft does as little as possible, and in their eyes it works, Being a expert in windows, dont expect MS to be adding anything to this app, MS rather have you jump to a 3rd party. The one that SHOULD make the app is Facebook themselves. But who are we? Just barnicles on the end of a stick.
I went so far to try the Xperia X1 panel facebook, as much as I like its functionality it also lacks simple basic features, like the ability to comment, like/dislike. You would think someone would be smart enough.
Your right, facebook does need to create the app.. They created the app for the iphone and android, what blackberry? did facebook create that or was that RIM?
also since WP7 is due to be released soon, i think MS dropped the development for this as social networking is a big focus for WP7
MS drops everything trying to make the big buck, if they set a dept up to take care of the little things like this, they'd be amazed how all the little cents would add up. They crippled WinMo 7, from everything I have heard and read, I'll stick to the flexibility of 6.5, not that its great, but sure beats the choking factor. If they are so big on social networking, they sure dropped the ball on that front.
Hello all,
In light of the recent congressional events regarding ("shhhh") downloaded music, I am now in the wanting to play it safe mode. At my age I have more too loose.
What I'm looking for is the best home to phone streaming app that does not also utilize web based streaming like Audiogalaxy and Subsonic. I am now using both of these but would like to see if there are any alternatives which...shall we say...'are more private'. Simply an app that does not require any website registration but only needs ones own IP to access music.
I would also welcome discussion on the legalities of steaming already downloaded music (home to phone).
Thanks for any thoughts on this topic.
Edit: Now trying Gmote. Can anyone recommend a better one?
Just use Grooveshark.
if you have a daap server at home, say itunes or WDLXTV firmware, there is a simple daap client in the market that works well

Thanks for the reply. After trying Gmote for a couple of days I've decided to ditch it. It tends to start/stop too much on a 3g network, and the UI is horrid. The daap server sounds interesting. If you could recommend one that will work on either XP or W7 I'll try that...assuming there is such an animal.
Is there any app to stream live radios station ?
I move from WM to Android, and I would like to know if there is any app to stream live radio station Wm normally use WMP, but android doesn't support Wmp
please if some one know something about it point me to the right direction.
there are ways to use VLC to do it.
Have you tried Homepipe?

Not yet, have looked that one over a bit. Gmote lags too much on 3g so I'll try Homepipe next. Oh yea, and my Bucs almost came back on your Ravens last Sunday. If only Freeman had started his "famous" quick offense earlier.
@dsuare021979 For music streaming try:
Pandora (unlimited access is 36/year but has the best quality sound IMO.
A Online Radio (the "A" is part of the app name)
iheartradio
Last.fm
Thank you for the help, but none of them work with the radio station I normally stream
MEGA 97.9 NY. I hope we get an app like wmp soon.

Checked into Homepipe a bit more closely and it's another type that requires a website registration, which is what I'm trying to avoid. Gmote is what I'm looking for, but it's too buggy for me. Guess I'll keep looking but use Audiogalaxy in the meantime. I like Subsonic but on the EVO it has a tendency to repeat the first song all the time. Anyway, thanks for the input.
Just a question to see if you know something that I don't... if you go through and Retag all of your mp3s there should be no real way to see where they came from... ripped from your own cds or otherwise.... at least that's my opinion. But maybe you know something that I don't?

My only experience with re-tagging is to get the files to look right in Audiogalaxy. I collect alot of "Greatest Hits" albums and most of the tracks each have their own album tag. I wish I knew the answer to your question for my own benefit. Anyone else?
I finally found and app that let me stream any radio stations around the world, ( RADIO TIME ) it work great
I just got my self a samsung windows phone 7 and was looking around for a few hours. my question is, Is there a file browser(file explorer) built into WP7. I just cant imagine Microsoft settling with Iphone like interface where you need to sync music a photos and what not.
Simple answer is no and you won't be seeing one from Microsoft any time soon if at all. You can find plenty of threads on this topic if you take the time to search for them.
thank you. yea i would searched but didnt really have time to spare :\
I moved from an HD2 to an HD7 a week ago and thus far I haven't missed having a file browser. In fact I had completely forgotten about it until now.

Nope, I still don't miss it.

It's probably because you don't do things which require that massively.
Like me - I never watch movies on my device so I did never care about missing codecs support.
But that doesn't mean they're not needed.
And BTW, regarding users etc.
The most successfull platform today supports all those missing things
yet it didn't prevent it from boasting a massive success on the market.
I'm probably going to try it this year, there are announcements of upcoming devices in Poland
unfortunately no qwerty ones (HD7,Trophy and this great LG)

maybe we don't miss it because we are not trying to use our devices as usb sticks (of which most people have several laying around).
The OS was designed that if something is stored on the phone, the proper apps can find them.
I too have not missed having a file explorer. The only reason I ever used it was to install cabs/ tweaks/ mods which are unnecessary on this device.

So I say still - you don't do things which require that. Fine for you.
Composing email with many different attachements is the simple example here, without success on WP7 right now.
Deleting unwanted files on the device en masse is the second.
Currently you cannot even put all the desired files easily on the device with one simple move
Like docs, videos, pics alltogether. Videos are compressed for instance AFAIK before beeing stored.
Zune does not support docs. All is complicated than.
Device's ability to recognize files by an app is not blocking seeing the file structure.
My SE X2 can do it like WP7, but with all the file explorer capabilities.

Never needed to do that yet, but I'm sure the ability to do so will come via an update before I need it. It was very, very rare for me to need to do that when I used WM too.

Docs sync to Skydrive automatically if you use Windows Live Mesh like I do. Videos, Pics and Music all sync over wireless to the phone via Zune. How hard is that? Drag 'n' drop.
Erm...have you actually USED WP7?

Yep, so are photos and music, all squeezed down to fit the phone's screen and memory. You don't HAVE to let Zune squeeze them, but it's an option I use extensively. No need for a 10Megapixel image on a 480x800 screen. No need for my mp3s to be more than 128Kbps either when using a bluetooth headset.

No the docs sync via Windows Live Mesh. Sheesh. It's all automated.

Hi
I am interested in buying the lumia 900 as soon as its on the market in my country. just a couple of weeks off.
anyways, im on android now. not doing very much with the phone, but there are a few things that are must-haves for me.
so, id be glad if anyone could take the time to check if there is a counterpart for the lumia for the following:
- podcast app that automatically loads my podcasts (video&audio) during the night using my wlan according to a time schedule (on android, beyondpod does that for me)
- playing divx and other popular internet movie formats without any decoding etc. (android on sgs2 does that out of the box)
- sending/receving emails with all kinds of attachments
- streaming from and to the smartphone to my pc/tv (allshare from samsung does that for me)
- backup app that uploads all my taken pictures to the cloud ONLY when I am connected to a wlan (not 3g, my dataplan is not large enough)
- full torrent client, not remote only (ttorrent on android)
- moving any kind of files to the device without any restrictions. drag and drop preferred.
that are the must-haves for me if I make the switch to windows phone.
thanks and br
marco
If those are "must haves" then don't waste your time. I don't see why you would need a full torrent client, but it can't and won't exist on WP... Along with some of your other points
Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express
Yep. Looks like you are stuck with Android. Enjoy.
Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express
If your not going to use torrents on a mobile network I would just keep the android phone as a media player and for games. You can still use it on wifi for torrents. I'm doing this with my inspire because I was worried about app selection
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2 Beta-6
hmm and apart from the torrent client? is the lumia capable of the other points?
Windows Phone isn't a flash drive either
Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express
so it has no torrent client and cannot be partly a flash drive.
i guess all the rest it cant do either....?
kinda limited it seems - no wonder it has difficulties to penetrate the market.
Yeah, that's why the iPhone has done so poorly.

There are numerous, countless, exhaustive posts ALL OVER the internet, not only here, about what Windows Phone is and isn't. I think it's ridiculous, annoying, and pretty ignorant to continue to post comments like this. You came in asking for answers, they were provided, there is no need to throw in a fanboyish jab.
I really don't see the need to receive .psd attachments on my phone, I really don't. I don't see the need to use it as a flash drive, I never did when I had the ability to on WinMo or Android. I also don't see the need to. I understand others have different needs... And I respect that, I just don't see the need to call it limited because it doesn't do things I personally consider unnecessary. I mean, with that logic, Android is "kinda limited it seems" because it can't last anything on battery, it can't run stable, it can't give me a consistent experience, it has stolen IP everywhere, it has an asshole CEO, etc, etc...
I hope you find a phone that suits your needs, the Lumia (and Windows Phone in general) is a great experience.

Zune player lets you sync podcasts and set it to download them as soon as they are available using WLAN. You can set it to 'download 3 latest episodes' for example. Scheduling when it downloads them is not available, but I don't see why you'd not want them on your device as soon as they are available.
- playing divx and other popular internet movie formats without any decoding etc. (android on sgs2 does that out of the box)
While I am not sure if WP will support every codec out there, the only way to upload a movie to WP is using Zune, and Zune automatically decodes the movie to the proper format. It takes 15-30 minutes to do this but you don't have to worry. You just drag the movie you want to your device and Zune takes care of the rest.
Another option is to get an awesome app called Plex and set up a HTPC at home which will allow your windows phone to stream any movie in your collection from anywhere that has an internet connection. 3G Data limits may be an issue for this method...
- sending/receving emails with all kinds of attachments
WP email client can do all this stuff. Infact the I find the WP email client as good if not better than Android and much better than iOS.
- streaming from and to the smartphone to my pc/tv (allshare from samsung does that for me)
Streaming form computer to smartphone: PLEX does it very well.
http://plexapp.com/
Streaming from smartphone: various DLNA clients are present on some windows phones. I am not sure if Nokia has one, but my old LG and Samsung Focus had it.
- backup app that uploads all my taken pictures to the cloud ONLY when I am connected to a wlan (not 3g, my dataplan is not large enough)
WP was the first device that allowed things to be backed up to the cloud automatically. However there is no Wifi only uploads. It will do it in 3G or Wifi. The picture quality will be compressed and they will be smaller in size.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/pictures/upload-pictures-to-the-web.aspx
- full torrent client, not remote only (ttorrent on android)
Not available on WP
- moving any kind of files to the device without any restrictions. drag and drop preferred.
There is a homebrew solution for this but the device needs to be unlocked for you to apply it. I personally wouldn't bother with this considering I have a tiny USB key on my keychain that is larger than any WP out there (Other than the fujitsu one )
that are the must-haves for me if I make the switch to windows phone.
thanks and br
