My camera is broken, it first started while I was using MIUI. I didn't pay it any attention because I thought that the new kernel I flashed broke it, and it was an aosp rom anyway and those are sometimes touchy. Next I flashed LiquidRush and it stayed this way but I thought it was because that port wasn't compatible with evo cameras. Now I just flashed Warm 2.2 RLS5 Beta and my camera, which is a sense rom, and my camera still isn't working. It's been at least two weeks now. Has anybody else had this problem? Any solutions?
My wife's Samsung Transform had the same problem (OK, green screen). I DL'd Vignette to see if it was a driver problem rather than a hardware problem. Camera worked fine W/ Vignette, AND the stock camera app started working again.
Give it a shot. Can't hurt.

No dice. Might be hardware since my camera hasn't worked across 3 roms and 5 kernels that have no camera problems for anyone else.
Wow I never seen that I seen all black and force close but that's a first

My GF's has this same exact problem. Shes running Myns RLS3, Took it to sprint and they said they fixed it. However its still doing it randomly. Tried different kernels and different camera apps same thing.
i had the same problem a few days after installing the new evo update, and im on a stock rom, my phone is not even unlocked so i dont think its the custom roms. However I had installed the barcode scanner app right before it started to do that so i unistalled it and it stopped at least for now it hasnt done it since.
To OP
Buff:
Did you ever get your pink camera fixed? I ask because I recently went through a similar story, tried the latest MIUI, then MikFroyo, and now I have a broken camera.
First it was all black. Now its all pink. And I can start to see through the pink now. I'm gonna wait a few days and then take it over to sprint. I've already flashed over a stock rom and i've followed all the steps to "un-root" so I don't get refused service. Camera still displaying "pink"..
LOL you are lucky I signed up for email notifications to this thread. I never solved the problem so I unrooted and took it to Sprint. The tech said he reseated the camera module but that didn't fix it. They ordered me a refurbished replacement but I didn't have insurance so it cost me $35. Now I have a 0003 that doesn't like havs and I wish I had my 0002 back.
I'm having the same problem here. From cm6 to cm7 to stock and more in between it just wont work (except randomly sometimes) I heard elsewhere that it could be the 0004 hardware needing different camera drivers that the current kernels don't have. I don't know how this would explain it not working after a FULL wipe and flashing back to stock. If anyone can help PLZ do! Thanks.

Can I un-root so that sprint wont know I've rooted!?

Yeah look in the dev forum for the unroot thread. One word of advice, if you have a 0.76 hboot you will need to upgrade for it to say s-on.
Also getting the pink camera screen.... Going to call customer service and see if they will send me a replacement!
I read on Buzz about wireless, the sprint official forums in your account and some say thats it hardware: http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/236185
From the forum:
I had this same pink screen issue. Pushed on the camera lense and hear a "Click" Must have been loose like you said. No problems so far and the pink screen is gone.

The camera has stopped working randomly. The only thing I could think of that might of caused it would be the phone some how shut down when it was in my pocket. When I start up the camera app it immediately closes. When I attempt to use Google goggles, it says cannot connect to camera. What can I do?
First off you can give us some more details as to what software you are running. Are you on a stock Sprint ROM? A custom ROM? Did you install any software and then notice this change? Does this happen 100% of the time?
I'm running the stock 2.2 rooted odexed rom. Stock kernel. And haven't installed any new software to cause this...
I've cleared cache, dalvik cache, camera app's cache and it still doesn't work...
No one has any idea? Has this ever happened to anyone else?
It happens to me on both ava stock 2.2 and now netarchys 2.2... I have to wipe everything to get it back for a few hours... it just did it to me again do you have netarchys fps fix?

This is the craziest thing ever. The camera has returned to working after 10 hours of not working. I didn't do anything to get it to return. I will be continuing to monitor the camera to see if it happens again... This is the first time it has ever happen and the first time I've been on a 2.2 Rom for a significant amount of time.
This just barely happened to my phone too! Grrrr!!!
I'm running Fresh.02 + I tried flashing several kernels to see if it would fix it but none of them helped.
kernels I tried, latest versions of: kingX, snap, netarchy
Will try to do a full wipe and flash the stock 2.2 rooted w/o any fancy mods. <--- ok this fixed it!
Does installing the 3D Gallery app cause the Sense camera app to randomly stop working?
I'm getting the same problem again on a different ROM.
UPDATE: I've uninstalled 3D Gallery & cleared data on the Camera app and it still doesn't work.
i am having this same problem. have flashed several roms with no fix. cannot pin point when this happened either. really frustrating. ive done reboots, wipe, you name it.

Hi guys
Any luck with this problem? I'm using a rooted xperia neo running [email protected] #2 with an unlocked boot loader - I've used Google goggles many times before and then today its coming up with "Cannot connect to camera. You may need to restart your device" and yet the camera is working because behind this pop up I can see the image that the camera is seeing. I've tried to take a screen shot of this but the screen shot uses the camera and therefore I blanks out the image through the back lens.
I've also uninstalled the app and reinstalled it - cleared all Dalvik cache - as well as moved it to SD and made it a system app - none of these trials have made any difference.

Are you sure there are no problems or known bugs with the rom you are using? Have you tried reflashing your rom? (it might be a pain to do, but something in the rom might have broke and it can help to start fresh).
I never post here but I have had a problem with my phone's camera that I fix by some random thread I found a while ago so I thought I would share what helped me. The thread stated it is something to do with the camera's connection to the phone and sometimes with drops or bumps of the phone it becomes loose. All I had to do was turn the phone face down, put my thumb over the camera and press down with some force. Not enough to break it but just to reseat the connection. After that, restart the phone. I have done this a few times and it has been successful ever time. I hope you guys have the same success.

That is correct, in some cases i have found the camera has come unseated. but it could also be the board.
Sorry if there's a post on this already, but I've tried searching and I can't find any kind of answer.
I'm a total newbie when it comes to modding my phone, but I have the alpha 1 of CM7 flashed on my epic. I was already having a few problems with the proximity sensor when it was stock (my face would bring up the keypad and dial numbers while I was in the middle of a conversation.... I could see the screen lighting up mid-convo for some reason) but it seems almost worse now that I've flashed. My calls will disconnect even though I have service, and this happens almost daily. The screen also can't sense when I take my face away from the phone, so the screen is still black when I want to end a call... I usually have to slide the keyboard open and shut in order to end the call.
Is anyone else having this kind of problem? Or does anyone know if there is a way to... I dunno, recalibrate the proximity sensor or anything? Any help at all would be fantastic.

I would reflash back to stock EC05 and see if the issue continues with the prox. Most of the time a reflash stock will fix the problem. I know you said you had the issue with stock but did you reflash stock to see if it went away. If you still have the issue w/EC05 you just might have a bad prox. If you have TEP just take it in to a sprint store its free, if not it will be $35, make sure it has EC05 software when taking it in or else they will laugh at you and tell you it is the cooked rom you are running which it very well could be.
Haha ok thanks, I'll try flashing back to stock and hope it fixes itself... And thanks for reminding me to go back to EC05 if I take it to a sprint store, I def would've forgotten to change it back lol.

When activating the camera on stock rom, rooter stock rom or custom rom the camera will lock up the phone, screen will turn off and a battery pull must be done to get the phone rebooted. Doesn't seem to matter the rom. Still the same effect.
Back story:
So my sister in law came to visit with her nice new shiny sgsII (t989). She got it from her friend who happens to be a tmobile salesmen in Seattle. She was told that the camera didn't work cause he downloaded something. But took it anyways (since he is her friend and she got it for free).
I thought I'd take a crack at it. Tried a factory reset. Same issue. Found that it was stock 2.3.5 and NOT rooted. Thought maybe a new camera app would fix it thinking the app would hook into the os/hardware and not the default camera.apk.... Same deal.
Last step I tried before coming here was to install a custom 2.3.6 ROM. It got to the standard camera screen but with nothing coming from the camera (black screen) and locked up before needing a battery pull.
I've come to the conclusion that her friend either tried to flash a different cameras firmware on the t989 or dropped it in the toilet OR BOTH!
What do you guys think the issue is?
Why would he want to flash different camera firmware?
I'm stumped. She is here on vacation and that phone is her camera.

how does one flash a camera firmware?
So this happens on every camera app?
Don't know how one would flash the camera firmware. It was an educated guess. From the info I was told "he downloaded something and now the camera doesn't work" is the only thing I could conclude from that.
On the Samsung Vibrant people would use alternative modified camera.apk or use custom kernels to get the front facing camera working but never seen of anyone changing firmware before.
I have tried technically 4 different apps. one from the stock rom, 2 from the market. PUdding camera and the other I don't recall off the top of my head. They both did the same thing. Which brings me to believe it is either the driver (which could be fixed by a different kernel) or the hardware. Come to think of it, it wasn't rooted when she got it. So I doubt he flashed anything. Unless he odin'd something....
Just got done talking the the previous owner. Turns out all he did was installed some official Google apps from the market place when this happened. Doesnt seem like he did anything wrong. He told me of two other issues that started at the same time as this one. Video playback will reboot the phone and web video reboot as well.
Got a workaround for the video playback: installed mx player and set it to render A/V in software mode. Not the best solution, but it works.
Online videos crash. IE any site with heavy flash. Updating flash didnt solve it nor an uninstall/reboot/reinstall.
That's where I'm at. 1 step forward 2 steps back...
Hate to do this, but..
Bump
I might have reached my phone's flash limit! lol, unfortunately my camera started acting up when I flashed an old EVOlved ROM. Had all kinds of purple/pink/green colors in it and a couple days later it only shows blank white no matter what kernel I try. If anyone knows the answer to the following questions please comment:
1. Software or hardware? Could this be a physical issue? It looks clean to the naked eye but it took a nasty fall a few weeks ago.
2. What caused it? It started after flashing a 2.2 rom but I use VR_SUPERWIPE and didn't need to flash a custom kernel (maybe updated kernel from a newer rom going back to an old release? I dunno)
3. Possible fixes? I'm open to suggestion. No insurance, had it more than a year, I can't upg until September.
I'm spam the Thanks Button for anyone with a decent suggestion! haha
Could be a bad download causing the camera to bork. First, install a camera app from the market and see if that works. If thats successful, then that tells you it is a bad download and just redownload the rom and verify the md5 checksum.

Probably not a bad download, it worked last time I used the ROM but that was many moons ago. Great idea on the camera app, unfortunately the main camera is still busted while the front facing works fine. The problem persists on every ROM I've tried since 3 days ago. I should mention the front facing camera was never an issue, just the main
The same thing is happening to my Transformer Prime Tablet... No fix for it yet...
What you might wanna try is taking apart your Evo and remove your camera and put it back in. I now it sounds risky but its actually really easy.
It's from the fall. I had the same thing when I shattered my screen. You need to get a new phone or have the camera fixed itself. I just got a new phone.

Hi everyone,
I need help to sort out an issue about my front facing camera.
My phone is stock WWE version, I took the first OTA (1.54.401.5 I believe), then unlocked bootloader, rooted and installed ARHD 6.0.
Everything was working fine, then I flashed version 7.0 few days ago (without upgrading firware, as I'm one of the poor "Whelp" guys with firewater, so I couldn't get s-off) and now my front camera won't work. When I try to select it, camera application force closes and I'm back to homescreen. If I try to setup face unlock, I get a message saying sth like "Can't connect to front camera".
I've tried other ROMs like InsertCoin, same issue. Only way I could get it back to work again for a while was flashing Maximus HD.
I have NO IDEA what is going wrong here.
I doubt it is a hardware issue as everything has been working flawlessly for some weeks. So my question is, could it be a problem of ROM/firware version compatibility? Can keeping an "old" firmware cause this kind of issues?
Thanks a lot for your help!
right now, installing OTA (after going back to stock rom & recovery), hope things will get fixed...
I might be f***d for S-off since 1.54.xxx.10 patches the firewater exploit, but anyway...
I had similar issue after 2 months...my ffc 'disappeared' when I used a system info app to check hardware etc. and also noticed the duo effects stopped working...swiping to ffc in camera app didn't do anything either...weird...took to Sprint store and they verified and I had new phone sent in as replacement.

Thanks for your feedback...
afterfirmware update, same issue, on ARHD and even on Stock ROM 1.54.xxx.10. Started to think itwas a hardware issue, thinking of sending the phone in HTC warranty (although I unlocked the bootloader) then I tried to flash maximus HD 4.0 again and WOOSH, issue gone!! FFC works as it should again. STRANGE as hell.
If anyone has a clue on how to solve this...
I have the same problem, I flashed the MaximusHD and doesn't work:crying:
Hello,
What version of Maximus HD did you flash?
I used version 4.0.
Well, what is strange is that after a while I switched to ARHD 8.0, then 8.1. All went well until last weekend, boom, issue is here again.
I'm thinking of a few things :
- software issue cause by God knows what.
probably not as I have had the issue with many ROMS, whatever version I'm using when it pops up.
Might be other apps but issue remains with clean install...
- Other hardware issue not related to phone (SD card...)
probabbly not as I tried to remove SD card, restart phone, same issue.
- hardware issue with the FFC, coming and going. In that case, not much to do apart from trying to get an exchange model.
maybe...
You could S-OFF using Sunshine and then reflash everything from the beginning and see what happens. Also means you'll get the right firmware on your phone as well
Hi EddyOs, and thanks.
Yes, did S-Off when sunshine was released. I used it to install HK audio mod on ARHD 8.1
Issue only came back recently, and hasn't gone since...
I'm completely lost here. Can a hardware issue be temporary, go, and come back? Seems strange to me.

Well hit it with a hammer, if it still doesn't do anything then perhaps it wasn't hardware but software. :silly:
Seriously though, Yes hardware issues can "come and go" intermittently. I see that crap all the time at work.
Could try and completely start from scratch again and see if it helps like Eddy suggested, if it's a hardware problem then naturally it'll have to be sent back but luckly you have S-OFF so you can return to stock fully. Unlucky for you however, if the device gets exchanged then it means you'll have to fork out another $25 for S-OFF as it's a 1 phone only license
after five days, issue is gone. Now everything seems to work normally.
No hit, no drop, no shock whatsoever.
Now just waiting for the issue to come back...

Isn't there a HTC diagnostics code that you can use to test all features...that might help to see if hardware in fact has failed...that's basically what HTC would do if you were to call them...forgot the key combo off hand
