So what's the big deal about Gingerbread?
G1 Chromatic Dream(Android 2.2 Froyo)

http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/12/android-23-platform-and-updated-sdk.html

It's got that unique flavor with just the right amount of sweetness all in a crunchy package.

Any new version of the Android OS is going to come with some new features and a boost in performance.
Running the buggy GB build that's out right now, I can say that the copy/paste is VASTLY improved. I'll have to wait for a stable release to say much more but I know that near field communications is supposed to be native to GB and overall performance should be better.

It has the 3G and it has the wifis.

Too bad the UI is tacky... well except the black bar. Looks like HTC Hero took a sh*t on 2.3 and smeared it all in with all those black & green highlights.

yeah, this is known already. it doesnt have much free ram left with the sense version. try the AOSP 2.1 build, alot more stable and faster. plus data and service wrks off the bat without setting it up. u can always customize it to look like the sense version. like i have done. if u were to look at my phone, ud think i had the sense version in there. u can always get new widgets, clocks., etc...
if they ever get this 100% and then flashable to ROM, it will be awesome seeing ATT offers crap for android

There are 5 ATT Android devices about to be released.
Any with full hardware keyboard, maybe I'll go to an ATT store? But, I already spent the money on the TP2 so would like the full port of android someday soon.

[Q] Cyanogenmod benefits???

I havent had time to fully test the cyanogenmod rom for the EVO yet and I know a lot of people really love the extra features added to it. My question is what are those features not available in other roms or sense roms?
Well you have great features that NO other ROM can do! Such as no more 4G. No more FM Radio! Camera quality is lessened. But my personal favorite is no more HDMI output. But all those aside...it makes your phone...well...kinda faster? Something like that.

really? hdmi is your biggest gripe? it sucked anyway. maybe it's better now since they officially uncapped the fps. and um "kinda faster" lol that's a good one
The easiest way to answer this question is to just flash it and try it out. We could sit here and type everything out for you but that wouldn't be any fun!
Give it a try. Don't let others sway your judgement.

The camera quality is the same with CM6.
Cm6 is all open source.. not everyone appreciates the hard work that goes into it. HTC's Sense is removed so it doesn't hog your system memory. My favorite thing is that the wiimote app works allowing me to play video game emulators with a wii-remote. I work nights soo I got to pass time..

VZW Gingerbread?

Anyone have an idea when it will be released?... Theories? I am nearing the end of my 14 day return for my Inc 2 and noticed today that the X2 is supposedly going up for sale on May 26th WITH Gingerbread. Thoughts?
Umm have been reading on this and my question is why do you want ginger bread ? its just "Updated" version with nothing that is really new .

Are you serious? GB is significantly different from froyo. Better power and application management, NFC support, VoiP/SIP calls, SIP audio for video calling, better download management for HTTP downloads, new sensor support(gyroscope), audio, graphic and touch screen input enhancements for game developers, support for webm/VP8 video playback, aac audio encoding and bumped api's to 10 with more support for native code.
Not to mention the new skin for AOSP and the new multi touch KB. I'm sure I left out a bunch of stuff but that's what I can recall from reading. So that being said you should take a moment and actually do a bit of research before posting a response like that.

Okay true .. but I'm not freaking out like "Oh I WANT Gingerbread already" there is no point in begging for it .. its more like you will get when you get it.
But then again, it shouldn't be the case that we're still stuck on Froyo when Gingerbread has been out for so long already and Google has already announced Ice Cream Sandwich.

Again you guys need to research or have some actual information on the subject posted. GB is only running on a handful of devices (officially) and ICS will not be out for a while. So GB will come I'm sure, in its own time. So the majority of handset owners are "stuck" on froyo. Keep in mind any device with a custom UI is going to take longer than a vanilla device.

I've read in many articles that, HTC said that gingerbread would come in Q2, Since the end of Q2 is in june, i don't see why we wouldn't get in then, especially if the first incredible is supposed to get it in summer. Motorola isn't going to let the Droid X get gingerbread before the X2, i don't imagine HTC will let the first incredible get it before the inc2
I would agree too, I think they are waiting to release the bug fixes like backwards maps in the GB release. Costs them too much to keep pushing out patches.
i have a sample inc2 device with GB 2.3.3 sense 2.1 (s/w version 2.09.605.1 baseband 20.27w.30.0811u_1.07.00.0507_3) loaded. Also since it is so stable, i doubt that everybody getting GB is too far away.

Do we have any inkling as to what GB will look like and what flavor of Sense 2.1 we will get? The leak of GB for the Thunderbolt had Sense 2.1 with the Sense 3 notification pull down, but not the new lockscreen. The HTC Flyer is running GB and Sense 2.1, but the lockscreen is the Sense 3 style. I would love to get the lockscreen and the quick settings in the pull down.

I am all for this, but it would be nice to see it come as part of the update from VZW/HTC. If HTC already has it for Sense 2.1, lets see it on our devices when they get updated.
I've read that only dual core devices will get the full on sense 3.0 experience(officially). Maybe jcase or one of the devs in the know could verify this?

Is ICS really that good?

I don't know :/ Initially everything I read about it suggested that it used some form of hardware acceleration to make phones run much smoother. However, after seeing many speed tests between the Droid Razr and the Galaxy Nexus (both using TI OMAP4 chips, razr has GB and GN uses ICS) the Razr smokes the Nexus in every aspect. And I understand there are many other factors involved that could play into that, but in general it seems people's experiences with ICS point to it being much more bogged down then GB ever was. I don't know, anyone else have thoughts on this :/
Honestly I don't think it is that great. For me it is the eyecandy and a couple of cool new features that make ICS so interesting. But after running ICS for a while I went back to GB and was astonished by how good GB was. By no means is ICS bad, I just don't think that it is on GB level of performance.
It probably just depends on optimization and other stuffs. Processor doesn't determine everything, although it does help. I personally like the TW ICS and it's pretty smooth to me.
Ics gapps like youtube is one of the big big reasons why I stay and its just something different from gingerbread.

Pretty much my experience as well. It seems they tried to make ICS very perty. And it is, it's got lots of nice transitions and neat features and a nice UI, but after going back to GB I realized how slow ICS actually is.
Perhaps that's why Google has already started Jelly bean, because they realized ICS isn't that great? :/
ICS on my phone is a minimum upgrade that works good for me but when my tab went from Honeycomb to ICS it made a much larger impact. I think ICS brings all the capable devices together and Jellybean will be the one that solidifies Android.

We all love something new, and we all love eyecandy.
If GB is working fine for you right now, you won't gain much at all moving to ICS.
The only thing I like about ICS is that elastic scrolling of a zoomed in page works.
Samsung GB is a mess. Doubletap on any content and scroll in 1 direction, it's all over the place with no elastic snap on either X or Y axis.

Google is on a yearly release schedule for major Android releases. Jelly Bean or whatever it'll be called was planned well before ICS was shown to the public.
And ICS on skinned devices isn't much of an upgrade, especially with the mess that is Touchwiz. This is due to the (correct) belief on Samsung's part that Android is more complicated and "ugly" than the average user wants/expects. Some of their feature enhancements are useful, but the visual is just awful. On its own, Touchwiz isn't worse than vanilla GB, but you can't use Touchwiz on its own. There are always elements of vanilla GB that show and that makes the entire thing an uncoordinated mess.
Android has reached a point where Google can work on refining the OS with small features. More importantly, ICS is the start of a unified and unique theme that can set Android visually apart from iOS and WP7 which look much better than any Android phone shipping with GB.
Of course, none of that matters since OEMs insist on skinning their phones. I had hoped Samsung would've followed HTC and toned down the skinning for the new version of Touchwiz, but that was a pipe dream considering the number of SGSII's they sold. My biggest problem with Touchwiz is that it doesn't mesh with the Holo theme at all which I hope app developers would use, allowing for a more unified Android look.
What I'm trying to say is: No, ICS is not that much of an upgrade from GB. But, ICS is that important to Android and its future.

My favorite aspect of ICS: the ability to disable built in apps. I don't use media hub. I don't use social hub. I don't use Sprint bloatware. ETC. I love having the option of disabling crap I don't use but being able to restore it if it causes OS problems.

Well, I had it switched from the touchwiz launcher to the stock launcher. I don't think that makes a difference though. Manage apps> all> select an app> if it's a stock app instead of the uninstall option, it'll have disable. Beats the greyed out block that's on GB.

Just to clarify, last season's HTC devices get an ICS update in the form of Android 4.0.3/Sense 3.6. This applies to the Sensation (all models), Vivid, Amaze, Incredible 2/S and even the Desire S/HD, along with a couple of others.
You won't see Sense 4.0 on any of these 'older' devices officially. It was the One series' drawcard, and it won't be officially ported backwards. That's what XDA is for
That said, I'm really impressed with performance increases on the Sensation, Vivid and Amaze from the ICS update. Usability of Sense 3.6, especially the Launcher, is greatly improved. You should get a good little boost out of the official ICS when it arrives.

most likely they started working on the older devices later, and by then 4.0.4 was in aosp id guess
given that htc updates on the same os version so frequently, id imagine the evo 3d/sensation/rezound will move up as well
some of the msm7x30 devices on gb at points had 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5, and 2.3.6 (dont think any of that chipset ever saw 2.3.7)
