Hi guys, I'm hoping i'm posting this in the right section.
I was just wondering if the HTC desire Z off the bell store in canada is compatible with G2 roms (after rooting it of course)... I was also wondering if the rooting methods are also the same.
Please and Thank you
P.s: I'm assuming the radios are interchangeable as well... ?
I'm sure the original G2 ROM's won't work on the DZ, but I'm not entirely sure... custom ROMs are compatible with both devices though
Although I think the stock ROM will work (someone posted up yesterday after flashing G2 stock on their DZ), you're probably best sticking to the custom ROMs.
Yes, the radios are interchangeable.

Hi guys,
My girlfriend has a Desire on US Cellular. It's running 2.1 build 1.23.573.2 and bootloader 0.98.0000. I need to get this thing running HTC Sense 2.2 with root.
I have rooted my Droid2 with ADB and am running a custom ROM so I know the basics. I have read all about flashing ROMs and debranding and what not but I am just unsure about a few things like which ROM do I need, do I need to change radios, should I root before/after, are there pre-rooted HTC Froyo ROMs, etc.
I think at this point I want to just get an official HTC 2.2 on it and then root afterwards
Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
Edit: I have looked around briefly and would have searched but it's currently down.
Edit #2: Mods, sorry I forgot to put [Q] in the title.
1) You need to root your phone first. Use unrEVOked. Search for it.
2) Find the ROM you WANT in Development - from there it's explained whether or not you need another radio etc.

Thank you. I've got it rooted so now it is a matter of figuring out what ROM to use.
I am finding that 95% of discussion in the Development forum is with regards to GSM devices -- ROMs for GSM devices will not work on a CDMA device, correct?

Correct. Installing a GSM ROM will brick the phone. There really isn't much out yet when it comes to CDMA ROMs for the Desire.
I think this is about it and it's very buggy at the moment.

I have the stock rom with root and the biggest annoyance is that the home app sometimes reloads after getting out of an application. I had a G1 before and in CyanogenMod there was this option. For now I like sense so I wouldn't like to move to a custom rom. The question is: is there any way to do this only with root and not modifying the home app?
Which stock ROM, there are lots of different ones. Do you mean the G2 stock ROM ?
that's why i posted in this forum
This forum is for the G2 and Desire Z though. The G2 has a single stock ROM (but there has been an OTA update, so effectively there are two ROMs for it).
The Desire Z has *loads* of different stock ROMs, e.g. the standard European one, the North American (Bell) one, lots of different Asian ROMs, and several more I suspect.
So which one are you running ?
well, if you say it helps

Can anybody help me out to go back to stock rom for US cellular based Htc Desire (CDMA) ?
I am looking for this as well, since I'm considering rooting to a custom ROM...
All here
The list of roms available are all compiled here. Take a look.

Thank you for the link, appreciated. Doesn't appear to have a stock USCC ROM on the list...oh well.
I have an nTelos Desire still on stock 2.1 and rooted using unrevoked so it has S-OFF.
I'd like to know which Sense-based ROMs (don't like AOSP, sorry) would be available for me. I already have a zip file for the nTelos APNs (if needed, really) but can't seem to find a definitive answer if any of the cool Kingdom/Pyramid-based ROMs would work with my version of the phone, including any radio updates as it's still on radio 2.05.10.00.11. I haven't been able to really find any info on anything nTelos specific and that's understandable since it's a pretty small regional carrier (I think it's owned by USCC or Cell South, not sure). Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Bumpty bump!

I have a desire on a CDMA network, and the best CDMA ROMs I've found are CM7, oxygen, and MIUI.

Thanks but I'm not a fan of MIUI or AOSP-based ROMs. Looking for a good Sense-based ROM that's either Froyo or Gingerbread.
Afternoon bump!
Sorry to be that guy but is there a thread somewhere that has some kind of list as to which phone these roms work on.
I flashed my phone about a year ago and it seemed like it was very model specific. Maybe thats not the case anymore but it seems like it would be very helpful to have a thread dedicated to it.
Thanks
I have a tmobile version btw.
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Except for Maximus HD all custom roms I know supported and still support all variants of the M9.
Some 3.x firmwares required you to either flash a custom kernel or the stock boot.img alongside a custom rom. Nonetheless, they were usable on every variant (except for Maximus HD).
