Ive seen this asked several times on this forum but with no answer. Following the procedure to root the new version for the Mytouch slide, I get down to the "chmod 0755 exploid" point and it gives me a "permission denied" message. Everything up until this point works fine with no errors. Why? Please help
Is phone in charge only?
Did you get a transfer status line when you tried to push exploid file?
Did you adb shell?
Did you cd /sqlite_stmt_journals?
If you cant say yes to all the above, start over.

So I got an EVO when they first came out and rooted/rom'd it, but the charging port broke and they junked it out and gave me a new one
I guess i didn't think about it before i did it, but i am finding out that having the hboot2.02 and trying to root it the old way has messed me up. I now can not seem to connect to it through adb or get the RUU to find the phone.
I am in the white skateboard screen with the Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, Simlock, and HBOOT usb options. If i try and reboot it, it goes to the RED EXCLAMATION POINT/Triangle.
I never got a custom recovery installed before i screwed this up somehow. The PC36IMG failed on the radio_v2 and didnt partition.
Can I load the stock or anything for that matter from where i am now?
I know this has prob been covered, but i have been on here for 3 hours now trying to get this going again. Thanks
Try this....
It's late and I have to catch up on some sleep before work so I will be brief.... Rooting Hboot 2.02 can cause a lot of headaches. I am surprised the RUU did not find your phone.
My only advice is to read up on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
It is by far the best and safest method to root your phone at this point and if you ask I bet someone can help there.
Check out the first post there is a special recovery file that might help.
Good luck.
I think if you try to find the thread that allows you to fastboot adb push a file into your system (file like amon_ra recovery and reboot into it), but if you don't have root, I'm stuck thinking like you too. :/
Yeah, it still says s-on, so i am assuming i didn't get rooted. This is so frustrating!
I have been trying to do the steps in the thread mentioned above, but no luck so far

So what do you see currently when you run your phone?
Is there anything conflicting it?
I see a picture of my EVO on a black screen with a red triangle and exclamation point.
I was able to do all these except for the flash image
adb push root/unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/
adb push root/mtd-eng.img /sdcard/
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-ENG.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG.zip
adb push pc36img/PC36IMG-MR.zip /sdcard/PC36IMG-MR.zip
adb push root/flash_image /data/local/
adb push root/rageagainstthecage /data/local/tmp
It said "C:\hboot>adb push root/flash_image /data/local failed to copy 'root/flash_image' to '/data/local/': Is a directory
Then i tried getting into adb by typing 'adb shell' and got a no such file or directory

I'm no expert at android development, but honestly It looks like you've badly bricked your phone using the old root method I have no clue xD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
do you think since it isn't rooted yet(s-on) they would exchange it out at best buy since i have the black tie protection or whatever?
I don't know but try to unroot LOL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7471721#post7471721
Well, i dunno from which site i got it because i have so many PC36IMG's now, but I was able to load one up on my SD card via my buddy's droidX and it went through smooth and i'm back to stock 2.2
I am not going to touch it right now as far as rooting it. I will save that for another day, soooo tired after 6 straight hours in this chair!
Thanks for the help!

Np, Glad your phone got unrooted back to normal. Maybe wait a few days and see how the forums turn up to find a better way to root it.
Well, i just didnt realize that there was a newer hboot and a different way to root if you have this one. I might try again here in another day or two like you said after i really read up some more. That sucked hard not having a phone for 6 hours and thinking i would have to get a new one!
I am currently in the process of rooting my G2 and when i have to enter this command, (adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/* and adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter) i get no such file or directory everytime. All other commands enter in without a problem. What is chmod 775 anyway. it is the only thing not previously included in the rooting process. Can anyone please give me some feedback on what is going wrong here
thanks
What ever you are doing stop now.
You're doing that the hard way. Here's what u do goto theunlockr.com and then click how to's, then goto the g2 picture then u want to do the how to get temp root first then once that is completed do the permanent root tutotrial. Everything on theunlockr has a video and text so u can't f up.
My best wishes and if u need help like asap jus send a pm or email me [email protected] gmail

A lot of people say its because you haven't set up the path correctly to the abd folder or haven't put the root files in the right abd folder.

Where to find 'chmod' answers
I had to exchange my G2. The one T-Mo sent is running Gingerbread(?) ver 2.3.4
I've been to theunlocker.com and in the procedure to downgrade so that I can root, http://theunlockr.com/2011/07/22/how-to-downgrade-a-gingerbread-t-mobile-g2-so-it-can-be-rooted/ two of the steps are to enter in terminal:
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo
and
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
When I do this I get 'chmod' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
I have spent several hours in the forums and can't find where I've gone wrong or where to find 'chmod'
Someone please help me
SOLVED, use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 and also (from one noob to another) it helps to type 'adb shell chmod....' if that is one of the issues you're having
You don't seem to be in the directory that you have adb installed. Change directory to there and you should be good

On my xp it installed to c:/program files/android/android-sdk/platform-tools/ automatically, maybe try there. If you can't find it try downloading just the adb program and putting it in your adk platform-tools folder. You did also download the android development package right?

I went ahead and downloaded the ENTIRE sdk, from 1.5 to 3.3, did a hard drive search, still nowhere to be found :-c. Any other ideas?

This method worked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Followed it letter by letter and I was downgraded from 2.3.4 to 2.2 in just a few minutes :-D
So I've Tried several ways of rooting it...with no luck
I tried the one on this forum with the
Adb push exploid /sqlite.etc method with no luck
I tried Unlockr Method which I get stuck at
$ cd /sqlite_stmt_< forgot the end to that but u get me
Then I hit enter and get
Can't cd to /sqlite_stmt...
Then I tried the root without pc option...
I downloaded everything and can't obtain a shell root to do the rest of the steps even after I shell rooted with super one click it didn't work..
Then I tried another root processes
Which involed typing Loop in cmd and then booting into recovery and it always say device offline ..I tried unplugging and plugging with no success along with other combinations and attempts...
If there's any Help out there Let me Kno maybe a Noob Guide, Though probably un needed , but I'm just frustrated ...

the can't cd to /sqlite_stmt... error message could be because you didn't type the command exactly, or the directory /sqlite_stmt... (or whatever it is) doesn't exist.

I went ahead with this thread that you suggested .
But in the end of "Downgrade" step, after 5th step,
I get an error saying "Main version is older, Update fail" It doesnt go till the (confirm if you want to install this rom- step).
I am a noob at this and this is my first time trying to root my phone.
Btw, I have a Desire Hd with 2.3.3 and build version 2.37
Please help me downgrade it and then I will proceed to root as mentioned in the above link
You do not have to create GOLDCARD if your device is not branded (orange, vodafone and such), so you can just use your regular sd card.
that guide works 100%, just read carefully.

So you mean to say that I should just ignore the goldcard step and start with placing the zip file in the root and executing 'Run this for downgrade' step..?? (After temproot step ofcourse)

Not a problem, i like to help when i can. just hit the Thanks button
I have similar problems. My latest problem being when i follow the gingerbread part cmd codes, I get to the last one before temproot and it does its stuff.. the only # i get is at the start of the results being "fre3vo by #teamwin"... the last thing in the results, is says "running exploit" then waits for my next command...
so i try the second to last command (cd /data/local/tmp) after you get the # ... Which im pretty sure i didnt because i get "path not specified" !! i think it may just me being dumb somewhere along the line..
but any helps appreciated!
if you follow those guides i linked you can't go wrong. be sure to follow step by step and read carefully.
Ok.. well il give it another go... i'l create the goldcard again.. i didnt bother doing that after the first time.. i thought once done it was done. but i may have mucked up somewhere so from scratch is the way forward..
Thanks
p.s im 2.3.3 is fre3vo the correct option?...
i saw on another forum, in the cmd codes it was gingerbreak rather than fre3vo or psneuter.. if im doing it wrong where can i get the gingerbreak file ?
Thanks again!
Eventually got downgraded to stock 1.32.. now perm rooted.. next CUSTOM ROM!
there ya go i told you it will work
