Hi ,
This will be my first time to have Android device and as an owner of Nokia N8 i don't need at present time a flagship Android device so i was thinking about HTC Wildfire for testing Android and knowing it and see if i can use it at my daily usage
Due it's low screen resolution is there any apps that will not work with the device ?! Don't care about games or videos all i want to know is the device capable of installing and using common apps found out in market and forums ? Skype , What'sApp , Androidify , Social Networks plugins Facebook and Twitter , etc...
This is all i am worry about that after buying the device i can't install apps on it due to it's hardware limitations
Thanks and waiting your reply soon
For the things you mention the wildfire will be fine, it can handle day to day apps fine mostly, it just falls down with high intensity graphics of games mainly.
yes u can install those kind of apps.if u not looking for gaming then its okay.
Most important now a days wildfire comes with latest version of android which cannot be rooted.
Rooting means gaining full access to ur phone means you can change some setting of system, run application which can be run only when rooted etc.. Without rooting wildfire is waste. If u use only day to day applications like skype, mail, youtube, business apps etc.. then u can take but if u intend to use something more like ad-hoc wifi, changing system properties, more market applications which are available for selected region only, Advanced tethering of internet, removing inbuilt applications etc.. then i advice not to touch until someone root it.
Thanks all for your time
i don't care for games all i need testing android and see if i will like it or not and try the common apps
i think in my country - Egypt - it's still sold with 2.1 Eclair and this is rooted ?!
if i want an email app and twitter and facebook clients and a new music player etc all this will not be available ??!!
i don't want powerful apps or games i know that device can't handle them but what about common and regular apps
let's say that there is 100 app most of android users use , how many of those 100 app will not work ,,, i will not download all market to the phone !!!
can i use apps that change the UI like SPB Shell , i already know that there is a lot of apps that do that job to android
is there 2.3 for Wildfire ?!
Thanks again all and wishes to join this section soon with my Wildfire
With 2.1 it Is possible to root. DO NOT update to 2.2.
Search for rooting guide by 42turkeys. It's a very good one. Read all of it, then follow it. This will get your phone rooted and prepared. Then install CM7. This will get you Gingerbread.

so Wildfire is good enough to know Android and get familiar with it
i guess i will get it this week ...
is there any more info please add it to topic will be so appreciated
No SPB Shell. Sorry. Wildfire is too low end to run it. Among the more popular apps which wont work, you can also add Adobe Flash Player, any other derivative of it, and even Browsers like Firefox.
Other launchers like LauncherPro, and ADW work flawlessly though.

I would recommend launcher pro, so much more customisable than stock sense.
Thanks a lot all you were very helpful
is there any hope that 2.2 will be rooted soon cuz i don't know if the device will be with 2.1 or 2.2
No idea yet. There's scant info of any progress of rooting 2.2. BTW, Since you want to use Skype, you might want to read this thread:

i didn't mean to use Skype literary ,,, i meant common apps that most of users Android using
and about rooting i am all new about this but at the end will be there is a solution for rooting 2.2 ??!!
in android can i downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 ?! then root the device or it's not working that way ??
No, downgrading and rooting doesn't work. And, as I said, at this point of time, its tough to predict anything about when 2.2 will be rooted, because, information is scant.

Yes, it will be tough though, unless the device is from the 'old stock'. But, Good Luck.

this is a little chance to get one from old stock but i wish
if u rooted it with XTC is the device will be always rooted or will be blocked again ??!!
Getting it S-OFF'ed by XTC Clip is permanent. There's no coming back from it.

is there any bad effects on device if i doing that or it's the same as normal rooting methods
i am all new to andriod vocabulary so what is S-Off Means ??!! Security Off ?!
Yes, Security (Secuflag) Off. The bad effect is that your warranty will be void. That apart, there shouldn't be anymore ill effects. (Unless, obviously, you are careless with it, since, with S-OFF, you can literally do anything to your system's files as you want. )

im still stock, i notice and read that the market has been upgraded several times.
is the upgrade automatic? i also have gtab and noticed that it was automatic. so im wondering why my DZ hasnt been upgrade "automatic"?
anyway im ok w/ old version. faster i think.
anybody knows?
Yes it is automatic. I don't remember if there was a prompt to upgrade but I do remember waking up to a new market one day >.< You're using the old Market? 1.2.x version?
The Market updates itself automatically, and usually you can't even notice unless you go and check the Market version. Though of course the change to the "new" Market is pretty obvious.
If you search for the .apk for the new Market then you could install it manually if you want.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
my market is still the old one... though im fine with it, just want to know if i replace it, will still be able to go back. if so, how?
i find the old one faster than the new version...

you can go back to an older version by finding an old Vending.apk from an old gapps zip.
shoot, why i didnt thought of that...
im still using 2.3.4
Hi,
My Evo has been rooted for almost a year now. I run the barebones ROM with V6, and I never have sense reboots. At least not yet. My wife has never permitted me to root her phone. She's always gotten a few sense reboots here and there. She was on Froyo, and this weekend, I updated her to the latest OTA. Now she gets almost constant Sense reboots. They mostly happen when she is backing out of different programs like the Browser.
I know all the tricks for rooted phones. But I pretty much know nothing about unrooted Evos, and what can be done for this problem. Is there anything that I can do to make this better? Besides rooting, that is.
Thanks
Good question about finding another solution, but i've been hearing alot about the new OTA having a few bugs, thats why i am rooted.
It's a lack of memory, so it has to end task and restart it. Try having less apps installed on internal memory, don't keep loads of messages saved and taking up memory, etc.
That's if she wants to stay with sense anyway. If she's not fussed, she could install another launcher without the need to root. Other launchers are fine, unfortunately sense's launcher is a resource hog. A good free one to try is go launcher.
Hey,
I would do a factory reset from the boot loader and have her come back and install the apps she NEEDS and uses on a regular basis, and you might want to clean up the SD card to getting rid of all those extra app folders and she should be seeing better performance if not its a glitch in the new OTA which has been reported. So you will need to wait it out or take it into sprint to get it fixed "replaced* sprint fix stuff yeah never"..
Good luck and I hope it works
If I helped please hit that thanks button!
It's more than likely a bug in the new OTA. As advised, I would try a different launcher until there are updates to the current setup. Here's a link to GO Launcher EX if you would like to use as a temporary fix while patches are made available by Sprint:

Thanks for all the replies. Will Sprint actually update anymore? I keep expecting them to stop updates for the Evo. It's been EOL for a while now.
If only she'd let me root. If I could root her phone, none of this would be happening. I don't ever get Sense reboots.

If you do, may be just and update to fix this as in a patch, but don't expect ICS or anything.

Nope. I have no expectations of ICS. And even if they did give it to us, it would still have Sense 1.0 sitting on it. I'll get my ICS from here, once they get the camera up and running.
I don't think it's an OTA issue, since mine did it when brand new on 2.3.4 once I'd put enough apps on it, and it was still the same after the OTA update to 2.3.5. However it stopped completely as soon as I used a different launcher. Sense 3.0 in stock form simply takes up too much memory when it's running.
I got a kindle fire for my mother. Wondering what the best course of action would be. Looking for a rom that i can install and not worry about updates, so as stable as possible. i was looking through and it seems like there is a netflix bug with the 3.0 roms? that is a bit of a deal breaker. can i get the play store and everything just with root?
can someone at elast tell me if there are any bugless roms? actually a couple bugs are fine, but i think no netflix kills it.
Have you a considered leaving it like it is? There's a lot to be said for the stock ROM for Moms and suchlike.

I agree, the stock rom is pretty hard to "F" up through normal usage.
Just my opinion, I had the same decision to make on my wife's, so I flashed the MoDaCo 6.3 and she didnt even know, except that you can tell by some downloded apps icon's resolution not showing great. But she is OK with that. Also, keep in mind that she doesn't watch movies on the Fire.
I have no problems on ics roms with Netflix. Once you mod the build.prop it will work. For her, I would go with modaco though. Everything works, and it feels like an Amazon device.

I'd say keep it stock too. If she has issues with it, then you can try a rooted rom then.
i just stayed with stock 6.3 and rooted and added the play store with go launcher...can't beat it...
i have no problem keeping it stock. i haven't looked into it too much. but mainly I just need to be able to side load apps, movies, music and books. I just assumed it wasn't possible with stock. the play store would be very nice too, but i'm almost positive that isn't possible stock. plus i'll be doing any tech support so i'd rather her have a nice ics rom that i know well.
i also just noticed aokp is officially supported, i didn't realize. I've got that on my phone and tablet. but there is no thread for the fire on rootzwiki, so i can't really tell what kind of bugs there are. anyone using aokp m5?
getting the play store on stock is possible cause i have it on mine, have you check xda for the aokp m5....you stay this is for your mother,i just leave it stock then cause the ics maybe a little confusing for her....ics is more advance in customization, don't get me wrong about ics...it's good, but there is always problems and it's not yet 100%...good luck in your journey...
Greetings!
Is it possible to port stock LGMessage.apk from LG L7II (kitkat) to the LG G4c (lollipop)?
I tried copying it with ES File Manager from one phone to another, changed permissions, restarted phone and everytime I try to open Messaging it crashes.
I really liked the abillity of the L7II Messaging app to give contacts custom themes (background pictures, sounds). This function is missing from the new version of the app.
Any tips would be appreciated.

Yep i feel your pain on that one cuz i am the same about the g4 stock browser. I'm trying t to find a browser that comes close to the speed and stability. Yes it can be done before if I'm not mistaken it requires de/re-compiling knowing code to an extent... A decent amount of work, but I'll give it a try as soon as I get a better PC that has enough balls to these things cuz this lil netbook barely runs anything lol

I thought about de/recompiling the apk. I have some expirience with coding stuff, but sadly I know too little about android stuff to figure out what's preventing the old app from running. Maybe it's some kind of software version check? Or maybe the layout or something doesn't fit? For all I know it may even be due to the fact that it's raining in China

Have you figured anything out with the old LG browser? I'm really missing it, hate using chrome. I just switched to the G4 from my G2 and chrome is killing me ?

Omg dude I do feel your pain....not a single browser out of the probably hundreds I've tried even comes close to the speed and fluidity of it. It's really beyond my logical scientific mind and understanding as a human being how anyone hasn't made a browser exactly like this and how this is not where Chrome is now. Anyway so far as I can tell it would require decompile in and all that good stuff beyond my means but there is one possibility I think which would be changing your devices ID making the app think that it's actually a G4 which I'm fixing to try very soon. I'm not mistaken there's an Xposed module that does it or a device ID Changer app or something. It makes incompatible apps run on devices they're not supposed to so why wouldn't it work for this LOL
