i'm planning to root my G2, but i need to be on 2.2.1 first. i'm still on 2.2, and i have to wait for an OTA, which i really dont want to do. is there any way to get to 2.2.1? maybe an update.zip?
Firstly, to avoid getting flamed, I'd post further queries in the Q&A section. (Now it's been said, let's not harp on the guy.)
Second, try a search of the forum. I'm willing to bet the update is around somewhere. (Again, now it's been said.)
haha thanks man. i'll look around.
It's in the rage thread. Follow the instructions to the letter and you can root while still on 2.2.

I am awaiting my replacement EVO which will more than likely have FROYO 2.2 OTA on it when I recieve it, fortunatley my phone guy will give it to me unupdated in the event it dosen't have it. My guess is that is why I haven't recieved my replacement yet ( been two weeks on back order from Sprint) they are probably updating the replacements to break Root, so I'm just wondering if the Dev's have anything in the works yet...
Must have Root...
Thanx

To reiterate: If it's a question not pertaining to a specific devs work, and is not in that dev's thread, it should be in the Q&A section. Q&A stands for Question and Answer, for people that aren't aware.
To answer you question: No there is no root yet for the OTA 2.2

Hey, guys.. I'm a complete noob at the whole rooting procedure and just decided to jump on the bandwagon. I have come to realize that as of now you can't root 2.2 until someone figures it out. Other then that, I just have some basic questions... so, once you root your phone you can download "roms" on to your phone to use. What exactly are "roms" though? The main reason I want to root is so that I can get the REVOLUTION theme on to my phone...
Just want some questions answered so I understand what exactly I am doing. I find this stuff really interesting anyways, so I would love to learn what I am missing out on!
Thanks in advance.
ROMs are complete operating systems. They're rebuilt, repackaged, or otherwise tweaked versions of Froyo, Eclair, with or without Sense, etc.
Themes are just layers on top of existing apps and program elements.
But both require root.

Head over to the development section, there are guides in place that can answer those questions for you (you will have more lol). Make SURE you follow the one for full nand unlock. Just spent 5 frustrating hours trying to flash rom because I thought I was unlocked but wasn't. Do yourself a favor and read those guides!
Swyped from my HTC EVO
A friend of mine just got his Evo yesterday and it came shipped with 2.3.3.
I've searched the forums on multiple sites and couldn't find an absolute answer, is it possible to root this, or downgrade to a rootable version?
no you cant root as of now and you cant downgrade either
sorry
and just to help if your new people become douche bags if you post something in the wrong section you will get more help if you post this in the Q and A section
Sadly no
They are working very hard (see Evo 3D and Sensation forums) so it shouldn't be that long but as of now nope. BTW watch out for the troll police and their smarmy (but usually hilarious) comments. Maybe move your thread if u don't wanna hear them.
cool rom! try going to the q&a im sure u know howz to readz!
WOW, AGAIN!!!?!??
MODS, clean up on thread 1160843...hahahahaha
Subscribed, cannot wait to flash !!!
Is it possible to root an official rom by HTC (2.3.3) developed as RUU?
After upgrade I used UnRevoked 3.2.2 and it doesn't work. I think that the problem is with HBOOT 1.02.0001. Downgrading to official ROM 2.2 (RUU) doesn't work, so it's impossible to root my phone in the same way as i did it before (on Froyo).
You are the 10th user asking this.
If you flashed the RUU - then NO, not yet.
I see than im not the only one with this problem.
To Administrators - please remove this thread
Yo mods, can we please get a merge of all topics related to this one and then sticky it please.
It should be stick 'cause a lot of people have been ”afected” by this hboot update.
Including me T_T
Stop posting these threads........
I repeat myself -_-

What's going on xda? I wanted to post this in the developer forum, so that possibly Ya know, a developer would see it and read it but the site said "no" so I have to post here. I had my phone rooted with weaksauce I was gonna go all out and unlock the boot loader and s-off but weaksauce made it so easy to have root access I was pretty satisfied with just that for a little while at least. Then I got an update Download from Verizon. I pressed where it said update now. I was curious. I'm sorry, anyway now I have the Verizon version of sense 6.0 and weaksauce shows me root failure when it runs. It's been like this for quite some time now and I've been searching around for any info on it but I'm the only person who has made a post about it so far. Other people also have this problem, I made a post on android forums and many others are sharing the same issue. Developers please. Let me know if you share the problem or know the solution or if you are currently working on the solution because I am getting slightly impatient. Thanks
Why not post this in Verizon HTC ONE forum? There you will receive more help.

If it was actually that simple I would have already done that. I have a VERIZON m7. Weaksauce was the only root method I tried that worked, so it's not that I'm too lazy to search around for the correct thread, it's that that correct thread doesn't exist yet so I just keep making threads on different android forums until I flood the internet with my words and someone finally notices.

Whats Going on? What is going on is that you really didnt pay attention to the rules when you joined. Had you then you would know why you cant post in the Dev forums. You would also know that had you posted this in the dev forums, it would have been deleted on site.
Now I am gonna move this to the proper device forums and advise you to take another look at the rules before you post again.
Basically, you are SOL until Firewater/Weaksauce/Towelroot is made to work on our latest OTA.
Had you run Firewater when you had root, prior to updating, you would have been able to update and retain s-off and root.
Since you didn't, you are now stuck without root until/when/if an updated method/exploit is posted.

Dude, keep moving it if it makes you feel important. The rules really are not my main concern on this site, I had a question it got answered pretty directly after about 4 useless "this has to be moved" posts now I'm going to continue to wait. You guys are like maids for this site do they pay you well? Is it just fun for you to move threads to the correct place? pretty much: LOL @ false sense of entitlement thread police

Your thread got answered after it was moved to the right place, so that mod with "a false sense of entitlement" is the only reason you got a accurate reply.
Your call, but a bit of appreciation for those who keep this site running and volunteer to help is never a bad thing. Running a site of this size is not an easy task.

Wow so let me get this straight. You come to a development sight and want to ask a question? Tthen you post in the wrong section so you get the least amount of answers. So not only does a mod come along and move it to the proper place so you have a chance of getting an answer, but tells you where you messed up instead of just deleting your post. So you proceed to call names and insult me? Then break the rules again. Well how about this. The next time you decide to insult someone you will be banned from the site and then you be stuck with what ever simple minded questions you may have. Take this as your only warning. I would normally just remove you from the site for good but I am in a good mood today so I will let this one slide.
